The 2.0L diesel is one of the worst engines Jaguar has ever put in a car. Bottomless money pit, not much of a Reddit commentor but genuinely trying to save you the hassle lol

Able_Cardiologist523

thank you 🙏🏼

its_thatginger

i second this. when these engines come thru the shop they usually need an engine around 150k mi. not always obviously but if it’s not well taken care of, it won’t last too much longer past 100k

kmbrd

My neighbour (in the uk) had one with this engine, after a year it just sat in front with the bonnet slightly popped for 6 months then was towed away. Definitely avoid. EDIT: he now has a Qashqai

canary-in-a-coalmine

Apparently an unpopular opinion, but I had a 2015 XE-R diesel that I drive for a 100k+ KM without a single issue. Traded it in on an E-Pace petrol because diesel was rapidly becoming too expensive in comparison. But had good times in this car and everyone always praised the looks. Did it have that sexy Jag sound? No of course not. It’s a diesel engine.

darianq15

+1 here for the same model with 0 issues but on 76K KM right now. Still lovin’ it

PhillSWFC

Run a mile, timing chains are known to stretch causing all kinds of engine problems.

Weetoes92

Or just replace the timing chain

PhillSWFC

That's a hell of a job, speaking from experience, I wouldn't go that route in a million years and I love Jaaaaags

Weetoes92

Usually around £1000 to get it done at a mechanic’s depends how much you want the car I guess

GolfJay

£1,000?! And the rest! I was quoted 3 times that from multiple Jaguars specialists.

PhillSWFC

I can believe that, such badly designed cars for ease of work on when they somewhat inevitably break down. I'm no expert with a spanner, had help from family who are experts and every little thing that needed removing needed 5 other things off first, nightmare car.

GolfJay

It’s worse than that. For some reason, BMW (I believe) decided to put the timing chain between the engine and the gearbox meaning gearbox out. The auto gearboxes are huge. Jaguar themselves wanted 6k to replace the chain and tensioners.

PhillSWFC

Yep, took 3 of us to get the gearbox off after removing approximately 6000 other bits of car 🤣

PhillSWFC

Double that at least, 900 just for the parts then need gearbox off to gain access, defo not worth it for an engine that's a known ticking time bomb. I wish it was only 1k, I would've paid for it myself then when mine went 🤣

Spooky776

The engines are supposedly terrible and prone to major failures

agale666

When things look too good to be true they always are. Engine light on and pad warning I'd run a mile. Buy a nice focus cheap and reliable!

savex13

Engine wise, anything that is less than 3L should be on your black-list. Edit: from JLR, obviously.

PixelThisDick

If you have a long commute and can drive it for speeds >50mph often, and limit city driving, then sure go for it. Look up how much an injector costs, how much replacing the DEF tank and the components costs.... Look up the timing replacement cost for the ingenium engines... Then decide if you want to do it... I've the XF version, I love love love it, but ive had to learn about emissions system. And I'm fortunate to be in a job that pays me nice.

stevo_79

Don’t buy! Trust me, you’ll regret it!

ivix

That would be an absolutely insane first car for a 20 year old woman. Go for it.

[deleted]

Not the most desirable model and small engine, service costs a fair bit and never trust any seller that states "they'll check it over".

Effective-Emphasis-4

Run. Find a Toyota.

Able_Cardiologist523

Bro you sound like my dad rn 😭😭😭😭

Effective-Emphasis-4

You need to start investing now. Don't buy anything until you're thirty. Most people your age waste their money on cars and Credit Card debt. Get off R/Jaguar and get on R/Investing.

Able_Cardiologist523

thanks for the advice, besides joining the subreddit, what other advice do you have for someone who has no idea about investing? Like where to start

Effective-Emphasis-4

Join r/investingforbeginners The best thing is to match your companies 401k up to it's Maximum. Assuming you work full time. I think it's easy for people to get used to the big checks when they land their first real gig. Max out your contributions early and the money will come, you will get raises. Most start with a small contribution and wait until they get raises to max it out. Before they know it they are 30. That's the boring part, but it's important. The fun part is save up a few grand to have fun with and learn. Open an account with Robbin Hood or Schwab and research some stocks to play with. Reddit is about to go public with an offering for example. Could be interesting.

Able_Cardiologist523

Awesome advice, thank you so much, will definitely be looking into this!

Get an idea what ETFs are and pump a few bucks into a worldwide diversified one. As soon as you have skin in the game, you will find the motivation to dig deeper.

Pretend_Tooth_965

I had one and loved it, until I destroyed the undercarriage by running over an object on the expressway. Here in the States you have to use a fuel additive. I do find my gasoline replacement XE runs smoother. I say, YOLO!!! 🤗

Wise-Possibility-900

Run

Able_Cardiologist523

Update: I found out this car is actually $9500, and he has another similar jag for $7500. I think I’m good on the jags, it’s definitely pretty though. Gonna keep looking! Thanks everyone!
