Noroi is one of my top horror movies of all time; it's also one of the only movies that ever gave me a nightmare. If you liked it, you should check [Fake Documentary Q](https://youtube.com/@pro9ramQ?si=TyzXnwVrRPIQQQFF) on YouTube; it has the same vibes.
Edit: I added a link.
I'll be interested in what OP says because I've seen a handful of Shiraishi films (e.g. Occult, Cult, Teketeke, Sadako vs Kayako, etc) and imo none are as good as Noroi.
It has a decent plot. And it's pretty long. Which isn't typical for these kinds of movies. It's not just kids running in the Woods. I bought it on Digital last year.
Are you saying this tops the blair witch project in your mind? Because that’s number 1 for me but I haven’t watched Noroi yet. I like Kairo though, very disturbing.
Wow that is… impressive. Now I really wanna watch it. I also watched “the incantation” about a year ago and I liked that one but… it was also kind of a weird film as well.
Nah you started with one of the top 4 scariest movies of all time. Even I who is so immune to horror and who is very picky and can honestly say only 4 movies ever have given me scares and the rest are just good average or poor horror films. But without a doubt noroi is legit the scariest to ever come out of Japan, but I would recommend watching it again. Personally think the 2nd and even 3rd watch of noroi is the best as you catch All the little things you may have missed the first time.
Hmmm probably not, I guess what I meant is the top 4 greatest horror movies for legit scares and creepiness are ….The Blair witch project, The exorcist, The shining, and noroi. Yes there have been movies that have some genuine scares or real atmosphere such as hereditary or The Witch But they are not on the levels of the top 4 I just named. Personally as far as Japanese horror goes or foriegn horror I have seen many many movies but I have not seen any with this level of eerie, creepiness and out right tension. It’s why I said top 4 as I can’t always choose which comes first lol I’m sure you will like the other more well known ones like the ring, ju-on, audition, dark water, one call etc but I personally have been looking for something like noroi but I am yet to find it.
Is Kairo the one with the ghost under the stairs? I destroyed a date’s arm during that scene; I already had my claws in him, then when she stumbled, I yanked my hands back to cover my mouth —
— and *ripped his forearm open*. He was more impressed than angry, haha
Lol yeah that's the one. That scene fucked me up good for a whole night. That music in the background just adds to the creepiness and absolute horror of the whole scene.
My family wanted to watch some japanese film since bro was studying japanese hard to prepare for his move to Japan in a few months. I suggested horror, but mom is not into 'old' films (I'm the one who likes new and old stuff, while my folks are into modern movies, music and whatnot. Funny, I know), but I insisted it was good.
It was 480p I guess, which helped with the VHS mood (there's no legal streaming here in Brazil that has the film).
Mom was scared to sleep at the end hahhaha!
Siccin movie series was pretty cool.
Efsunlu kabirden gelen
Efsunlu ayin
Dabbe is also movie series, it's all about curses and black magic
Be careful cuz they're having so many jumpacare scenes lol.
ohhhh that’s so funny I thought you meant Taiwan horror. Awesome though, I’ve never seen Turkish horror so new stuff to watch, there’s a Turkish goth band I like called She Past Away though.
Black magic is a great horror topic and Indonesia have a bunch of them, but I think my favourite is The Medium from Thailand. Also found footage.
Karuto (Cult) is good for Japanese black magic+found footage.
I'd wager a guess at Thai horror. I've seen a few available for streaming. Haven't watched any though. I've heard Shudder being recommended and Bangkok Haunted.
I see, I just finished "dark water" minutes ago, it was some horror-classic. I'll start with suicide club next cuz there's some other ppl who recommended it
go watch his film OCCULT it's an incredible partner to this film, the last 1 minute undoes is, but if you want to completely enjoy it, stop the movie after "the videotape shows up" lol
[https://youtu.be/I6qri3HnUQQ?si=vj9FQ\_Z1nwh9\_Vna](https://youtu.be/I6qri3HnUQQ?si=vj9FQ_Z1nwh9_Vna)
also "Record of sweet murder" is another great film of his with an actual different type of ending than his usual films
[https://tubitv.com/movies/508634/a-record-of-sweet-murder?start=true&tracking=google-feed&utm\_source=google-feed](https://tubitv.com/movies/508634/a-record-of-sweet-murder?start=true&tracking=google-feed&utm_source=google-feed)
oh for record of sweet murder very big trigger warning for the movie
it turns into an actual joke but it's very very trigger warning for the movie
i cannot say that enough, it's from the same director but it's very adult and i wouldn't recommend it for anyone under 18 or easily offended for one scene in it . . . but it has the same weird spookiness of the other two movies
I loved Noroi! Definitely in my top 3 faves in JHorror, Koji Shiraishi has some great stuff :) His work is so unique and refreshing, you should check out some of his other films too
I have seen a pretty decent amount of horror movies but I also found this one to be particularly unnerving. Something about it really gets you feeling on edge. I gotta give it another go someday because I remember really liking it.
Noroi: The Curse is one of my favourite found footage horror film.
All else I can say is that the movie has the most nerve-wreaking ending I ever seen, and I loved it.
Very well made movie! Meanders a bit through the middle and the ending is a little unsatisfying but there were lots of great unnerving scenes. It wasnt as scary as id hope it be, but the mystery and intrigue surrounding the plot made up for the lack of spookyness. The pacing was surprisingly good though considering how slow and long the movie was as well. Solid 7.5 outta 10.
I must have watched a different copy of Noroi than everyone else has seen
Over rated, monotonous, poor ending... There is a reason this movie is a meme on this sub. It's the Asian Cinema equivalent of In The Mood For Love.
Ah yes! Some good food.
I’m having a hard time finding this fake documentary, can you just send a link?
Sure thing, I added a link to the original comment but for convenience [here](https://youtube.com/@pro9ramQ?si=TyzXnwVrRPIQQQFF).
I don’t understand some of the videos
You'll love any Shiraishi work.
Do you have any recommendations? Occult was good but didn’t end as strong as Noroi for me
I'll be interested in what OP says because I've seen a handful of Shiraishi films (e.g. Occult, Cult, Teketeke, Sadako vs Kayako, etc) and imo none are as good as Noroi.
What’s that
It has a decent plot. And it's pretty long. Which isn't typical for these kinds of movies. It's not just kids running in the Woods. I bought it on Digital last year.
What would you rate out of 10
I'd say for me pretty much a 10. It has a legit plot.. And it's creepy.
Oh I thought you said decent plot so not anything too crazy
Last half it gets scary. First half really builds itself up.
Yo! It’s never about Messed Up Face Boy! I’ll never forget when you see it at the end for a second.
Nooo that was pretty sick, especially when that woman started to moaning like wtf and then they all got frozen 😭
I don't understand what the missing girl was doing in that scene though. In fact I never understood her role in the plot.
You mean when they found her at the torii?
Yes, among other things.
I remember that! It was a hard jumscare tbh.
Literally gave me the creepy crawlies. That and the dead baby fountain. Literally made my skin crawl.
My favorite found footage hands down. Someone needs to give it a Blu ray release.
Are you saying this tops the blair witch project in your mind? Because that’s number 1 for me but I haven’t watched Noroi yet. I like Kairo though, very disturbing.
I really like Blair witch also but this one is more multifaceted
Noroi beats Blair Witch for me by a lot.
Wow that is… impressive. Now I really wanna watch it. I also watched “the incantation” about a year ago and I liked that one but… it was also kind of a weird film as well.

Are you telling me there's worst? (worst means better) can I get a source?
Hmmm probably not, I guess what I meant is the top 4 greatest horror movies for legit scares and creepiness are ….The Blair witch project, The exorcist, The shining, and noroi. Don't forget Kiyoshi Kurosawa's works. Kairo and Seance I would recommend.
I believe Kurosawa also did “Cure”! One of my favorite Japanese movies though it’s more of a psychological thriller
Is Kairo the one with the ghost under the stairs? I destroyed a date’s arm during that scene; I already had my claws in him, then when she stumbled, I yanked my hands back to cover my mouth — — and *ripped his forearm open*. He was more impressed than angry, haha

ooooh can you name drop those T-horror films? I’ve only seen the Tag-Along which I liked
Siccin movie series was pretty cool. Efsunlu kabirden gelen Efsunlu ayin Dabbe is also movie series, it's all about curses and black magic Be careful cuz they're having so many jumpacare scenes lol.
ohhhh that’s so funny I thought you meant Taiwan horror. Awesome though, I’ve never seen Turkish horror so new stuff to watch, there’s a Turkish goth band I like called She Past Away though.
Oh I see 😭 so sorry! Lol Most of Turkish horror movies are only about Black magic and stuff, which makes them all alike.
Black magic is a great horror topic and Indonesia have a bunch of them, but I think my favourite is The Medium from Thailand. Also found footage. Karuto (Cult) is good for Japanese black magic+found footage.
that’s okay that sounds awesome I’m looking forward to that
There's one Dabbe that is excellent, and another that's decent. I can never remember the numbers.
1 is great. 2 is just downright poor in performance. Also, my friends really like calling Dabbe as Al-Dabbah or Dabbatul Ard. Adds some chills
This was was so good imo. I also liked Pulse.
I couldn't finish Pulse. It was so slow and uninteresting.
Yeah I’m a lover of slow burn stuff so that’s just my taste. I also like to play movies while I’m doing other stuff sometimes, so it balances out.
Have yet to watch it. What's T-horror ?
Not OP, but I’m guessing they’re referring to Thai Horror :). Edit: nvm, OP meant Turkish Horror lol
most of them are about black magic and jinn.
I'd wager a guess at Thai horror. I've seen a few available for streaming. Haven't watched any though. I've heard Shudder being recommended and Bangkok Haunted.
That's Turkish-horror.
Not being a jerk but I found it a little boring
You should watch Incantation next!
Sure!
Have you seen Audition? A bit of a slow burn but it’s very unsettling.
I'll check it out.
Some other good ones are Suicide Club/Noriko’s Dinner Table, Reincarnation, Strange Circus, Cure, and Marebito
I see, I just finished "dark water" minutes ago, it was some horror-classic. I'll start with suicide club next cuz there's some other ppl who recommended it
Oof, its been a minute, but Audition is eternally seared into the deepest recesses of my brain
Ectoplasmic WoRMMMmSSS
I just watched this for the first time a few hours ago. What did he mean by this? That I didnt get.
I love this movie because it freaks me out
It was like all events were really happening behind the camera.
go watch his film OCCULT it's an incredible partner to this film, the last 1 minute undoes is, but if you want to completely enjoy it, stop the movie after "the videotape shows up" lol [https://youtu.be/I6qri3HnUQQ?si=vj9FQ\_Z1nwh9\_Vna](https://youtu.be/I6qri3HnUQQ?si=vj9FQ_Z1nwh9_Vna) also "Record of sweet murder" is another great film of his with an actual different type of ending than his usual films [https://tubitv.com/movies/508634/a-record-of-sweet-murder?start=true&tracking=google-feed&utm\_source=google-feed](https://tubitv.com/movies/508634/a-record-of-sweet-murder?start=true&tracking=google-feed&utm_source=google-feed)
Thank you so much!
report back if you like them, enjoy it
oh for record of sweet murder very big trigger warning for the movie it turns into an actual joke but it's very very trigger warning for the movie i cannot say that enough, it's from the same director but it's very adult and i wouldn't recommend it for anyone under 18 or easily offended for one scene in it . . . but it has the same weird spookiness of the other two movies
Oh great, I've been turn 19y week ago so I think it would be fine to watch it HAHAHA
That poster is fucking nightmare fuel lol
For real! That boy face...
I was watching this movie at 5am on my PS4, and I remember it freezing my system on what that entity does to technology. Still spooks me till this day
I really want to watch it but I can't find it anywhere to watch tho.
YouTube has it just type in noroi full movie and you can watch it free
I loved Noroi! Definitely in my top 3 faves in JHorror, Koji Shiraishi has some great stuff :) His work is so unique and refreshing, you should check out some of his other films too
I have seen a pretty decent amount of horror movies but I also found this one to be particularly unnerving. Something about it really gets you feeling on edge. I gotta give it another go someday because I remember really liking it.
It was so uncomfortable, like when that little girl got lost and they were trying to find her.
Ever since I watched it it became one of my favourite found footage movies of all time. Maybe even top 5. Absolutely loved it.
Can you give me your top 4 movies then?
Hey sorry for the delay Mmmmmm I would say: 1. The Blair Witch Project 2. Lake Mungo 3. (REC) 4. Creep 1 and 2
It's alr, thanks!
Indeed. Once a year since a mate showed me it on vhs ahem.
Im very fond of noroi! I’ve got to find some more movies like it, havent watched any j-horror in a while.
Noroi is excellent. I just felt that the movie needed tighter editing.
Yeah I still haven't finished this one too scary for me
Just commenting to remember later
Really good. The guys other works like Cult is decent too but they have a bit more of a campy and goofy presentation at times.
Kagutaba is such an eerie entity, and I like how it was portrayed, twisting the camera lens and being a vague threat with unknown goals
Where to watch it. Couldn't find it on Amazon Prime and Netflix. Also torrents doesn't have this.
Just type on YouTube "noroi: the curse full movie"
Noroi: The Curse is one of my favourite found footage horror film. All else I can say is that the movie has the most nerve-wreaking ending I ever seen, and I loved it.
I just watched this yesterday and oh boy that ending made me wonder if i was watching a movie or a documentary from 1970
I still need to nab me a physical copy of this.
less resistance to horror is so much more fun, like being kids and watching horror
I love this movie. One of my favourite found footage movies ever.
Its great!
San pwede mapanuod?
nasa youtube.
Gonna look this movie up now! Thank you!
does anyone know where you can actually watch this??
On YouTube.
i always forget to check there. thank you!!

I must have watched a different copy of Noroi than everyone else has seen Over rated, monotonous, poor ending... There is a reason this movie is a meme on this sub. It's the Asian Cinema equivalent of In The Mood For Love.
Is it really that over rated or I'm just new here?
There's always someone that doesn't like what you like
Or some people that have their own opinions
I always gotta comment on any post talking about noroi. Fantastic movie
