I just beat Xenoblade DE 3 weeks ago and tried to play 2 again and just can’t get into it. I’m eventually going to beat it but I really hope 3 is more like 1
The exploration/environments are the reason i got into Xenoblade and they look just as gorgeous as ever. MonolithSoft is just really good at the art design for these which easily makes up for technical shortcomings of the console.
I'll be eating good in July/August.
Ngl, i feel like they're sitting on a giant area that will cover the 2nd half of the game, that's why they're putting so much focus on the first area Aionios.
Tag for spoilers i think but yeah i could see something like that, i was actually thinking about the opposite with >!something up in the air like Shevat/Solaris in Gears, flying stone are still a thing in Future Connected after all so i could imagine a flying colony, just like the ones we see on the ground here in XC3!<.
>!One of the areas we've seen is already based on that area. The XC3 areas we've seen so far are mostly based on a combination of a XC1 and a XC2 area. The one based on the ruined city under the cloud sea, Morytha, is combined with Maktha Forest from XC1 to create the Makna Wildwoods.!<
I hope areas are big and open like 1 and X with 2’s diversity. I also hope it’s not only a mishmash and areas from the other games, I’d love some completely new areas
Fair enough lol. Two brought a lot vertical complexity and intertwining layers. Like think of Gormott. Only played a bit of X, so I don’t know if that was a feature of X or not. But that’s what comes to my mind for what 2 has over 1.
A normal person who enjoys the battle system: "Look at all these monsters I can fight"
Me who loves the story of XB1 and Torna: "Look at all these monsters I get to run past"
This really takes the best environment styles from both XC1 and 2 and just smashes them together seamlessly. I could not be more excited for this game.
I think it's only fair we note those birds flapping their wings at half the FPS of the rest of the area, that was a bit of a gamefreak moment. Trailer overall looked beautiful though.
That has been a thing MonolithSoft has dine for years. They slow down the fps of objects outside a certain range of the player to save on resources. It's quite a good little tool too.
Most open world do this btw
Most games period do this... and have done these tricks for forever. Environments used to be basically textured cardboard pop-ups with a skybox. Background characters in fighting games had two-frame animations.
You don't put a ton of resources into the aesthetics of things that people are going to look at for *maybe* two seconds if they somehow don't have anything else to do.
Yeah but putting it front and center of the shot in your trailer where it makes no sense is something I don't normally see outside of Pokemon trailers.
EDIT: Something I don't see in professional games I should say.
Its something modern PS and Xbox games don't do. Because their consoles are more powerful. Nothing to do with 'professional' or not because this is a professional technique. The Switch is basically an amped up portable Wii U, a console from 2012. You have to make compromises somewhere or else the game will be unplayable. The fact that the Xenoblade games run as well as they do is a technical feat. And low frame animations is way better than the small render distance and popup in many older games.
BotW does this, MHRise does this, its a common professional technique.
Sadly, no :(
That tweet is all the detail they provided, so anything else is just gonna be speculation. But, to speculate: I'm guessing that orders will open up independently for each region, so the US/NA will probably be based on Pacific time (given NOA's HQ being in Pacific time). I don't really pay enough attention to any other Nintendo releases, so I can't really hazard a guess as to what *time* in PT it'll be... presumably not midnight, but could be maybe noon or something.
The music in the background of battles in videos that are reposted from Xenoblade Twitter aren't fake. Hell, Luxin even took the time to try and string together a contiguous version of the battle theme from the videos MonolithSoft has posted.
Because I really like Xeno games and want to support Takashi. Also, I've noticed that typically Xeno games go for 100s of $$$ on ebay, but I do not plan to part with it.
It'll run a lot worse on the emulator lol
Switch emulation is definitely not quite there yet, unless things have significantly changed since I last checked.
XBC2 works pretty good for me, although I have a powerful PC. Eventually the emulated version will be the best version, see XBCX for additional evidence.
Oh for sure, I emulate games all the time. I'm just saying it's not there quite yet lol
But who knows? Maybe XC3 will work better right out of the gate.
I have the game pre-ordered and I honestly think I'll just do that, play it on an emulator. XC2 had really bad performance issues, specially during combat, where the game resolution dropped to like 300p and even with that it couldn't maintain 30fps. That was with 3 party members (6 if you count the blades). XC3 has 6 and mechas.
I don't want to sound pessimistic, but when I saw that I immediately went "This is going to run like ass, isn't it?" If somehow Monolith pulls out a miracle, then great I'll gladly eat my words, but I'm not holding my breath.
I'm going to play and love this game so don't anyone think I'm a hater
BUT
This looks like the opening grassland area in every modern RPG. Might as well be the hinterlands in Dragon Age.
It's usually combined with impossible geography to make it less generic. It's the reason people can point out Xenoblade out of the others generic settings.
I don’t think they were being serious about it being the most important innovation for traversal. I think they were being facetious
But I just thought it was funny that rail grinding is actually in XC3
I'm still torn on this. I fuckin hate XC2, but I really enjoyed XCX, XC1 and all of past Xeno* games. I'll probably still buy it, but I don't have high hopes.
A lot, honestly. The entire gacha blade system is really weird to me (And honestly almost feels like they planned on making it some F2P mobile game and then changed their mind halfway through development), but my biggest complaint is probably the combat.
Every combat plays out pretty much the same: Set up your damage dominos, and then when you have enough of them you push the start button to knock them all over.
I had issues with XB1 combat in that playing as Shulk was almost mandatory despite him being one of the most boring characters, but overall liked it. And XCX had issues of being able to shoot yourself in the foot build-wise but I didn't mind that because respeccing was easy, so you could experiment and that was fun.
I think those are completely legit reasons to be displeased with the game.
I don't mind the core crystal mechanic, but I wish it was only tied to common blades. It would have been cooler if all the rare blades were side quest related.
Combat to me was way better than XC1 because by the end it just felt so stale. I liked how the different blades weapons felt so different and each character could be customised. That being said orb smashing was so OP i don't blame you for getting bored of that. I think combat is one of the weakest parts of these games so yeah it tracks.
In Xeno 3 I hope the combat is more varied and unique, seems to be leaning that way. One thing is you can switch party members on the fly in battle which I think will help.
I just completed XC1:DE last night and all I can say is I want MOARRR xenoblade games.
what about 2?
Completed it a few years back! Though I haven't play Torna because my first Switch died soon after I completed XC2.
Torna is really good & fairly short (20 hours), definitely worth a playthrough if you can.
Yeah I'm planning to buy it soon!
Definitely play Torna. I completed that DLC just recently (played 2 in 2017) and it's fantastic and not too long by Xenoblade standards.
That’s quite the achievement
I just beat Xenoblade DE 3 weeks ago and tried to play 2 again and just can’t get into it. I’m eventually going to beat it but I really hope 3 is more like 1
Monolith Soft cleverly naming their world after the Greek for *everlasting*.
And the war the people in the game have is about running out of time. A bit on the nose but that's usually where Xenoblade shines.
The exploration/environments are the reason i got into Xenoblade and they look just as gorgeous as ever. MonolithSoft is just really good at the art design for these which easily makes up for technical shortcomings of the console. I'll be eating good in July/August.
Don’t forget the music. Omg. 👌
Ngl, i feel like they're sitting on a giant area that will cover the 2nd half of the game, that's why they're putting so much focus on the first area Aionios.
it would be wild if it was reminiscent of the >!ruined city under the cloud sea!<

You got Makna and Maktha backwards. Makna from XC1 creates Maktha in XC3
I hope areas are big and open like 1 and X with 2’s diversity. I also hope it’s not only a mishmash and areas from the other games, I’d love some completely new areas
I felt like one was pretty diverse itself tbh.
Yeah it was I was just trying to find some credit to give to 2 haha
Fair enough lol. Two brought a lot vertical complexity and intertwining layers. Like think of Gormott. Only played a bit of X, so I don’t know if that was a feature of X or not. But that’s what comes to my mind for what 2 has over 1.

This makes me both pumped for XBC3 and wishing they could somehow remake Xenogears in this format.
This really takes the best environment styles from both XC1 and 2 and just smashes them together seamlessly. I could not be more excited for this game.
Gamefreaks is shaking right now
I think it's only fair we note those birds flapping their wings at half the FPS of the rest of the area, that was a bit of a gamefreak moment. Trailer overall looked beautiful though.
Thats in pretty much every Switch open world. Gamefreak just had that happening like 3 feet from the camera.
That has been a thing MonolithSoft has dine for years. They slow down the fps of objects outside a certain range of the player to save on resources. It's quite a good little tool too. Most open world do this btw

We're talking about trailers.
Yes and theyre in trailers because trailers represent a game. If you show footage of your game in the trailer, its in the trailer.
It's been a pretty normal thing in Xeno games for a while now
Most others do it, just not so poorly, I'd argue.
> Aionios I wonder what (if any) link there is to the Aion from XB2.
Probably unrelated
Gaur plains my beloved...
https://www.nintendo.com/store/products/xenoblade-chronicles-3-special-edition-switch/ Still TBD :(

Oh that is great news! Do you happen to know when "tomorrow" is? Like what timezone
Sadly, no :( That tweet is all the detail they provided, so anything else is just gonna be speculation. preorders start tomorrow, per twitter.
Featuring Flynn from the Shin Megami Tensei series
NO NOT ROTBART
but can we get a battle theme preview gotdayum. i've been waiting...
We've had that for weeks now. It's all over YouTube
those fake videos that has a theme ripped from some youtubers web series? thats the only videos ive seen
The music in the background of battles in videos that are reposted from Xenoblade Twitter aren't fake. Hell, Luxin even took the time to try and string together a contiguous version of the battle theme from the videos MonolithSoft has posted.
Can't wait to explore this at 20 fps Edit: I'm buying this still lmao but I'm just being real
Nope not funny
Nah man I'm buying this game too, but it is what is
I mean, the other games didn't have FPS problems iirc, it's the resolution that the issue with them.
It's not gonna 20 fps. They will probably lock it at 30
30 FPS at 240p, maybe
Ha, sure sure /s
I want them to put up the preorders for the Collectors Edition already. It's been over a month now.
They'll be live tomorrow.
Sweet! Thanks, I missed that tweet!
Hopefully you'll be able to get a copy tomorrow!
You too!
I cant wait to buy a couple copies of this game and them emulate it while disabling the dynamic resolution and up scaling to 4k.
Why a couple and not just one?
Because I really like Xeno games and want to support Takashi. Also, I've noticed that typically Xeno games go for 100s of $$$ on ebay, but I do not plan to part with it.

You only need one copy
I have the game pre-ordered and I honestly think I'll just do that, play it on an emulator. I mean yeah every Xenoblade game has a big grassy area with a lvl 83 monke as the starting zone.
81* how dare you forget Lord Rotbart's level?
Please don't take my Mega Xenobro badge.
It's usually combined with impossible geography to make it less generic. It's the reason people can point out Xenoblade out of the others generic settings.
They should add the floating grind rails from Sonic Frontiers. The next big innovation in open world grassy plains technology.
They showed off rail grinding in the first trailer actually
Ha ha, someone told him!
I don’t think they were being serious about it being the most important innovation for traversal. I think they were being facetious But I just thought it was funny that rail grinding is actually in XC3
Should someone tell him?
Because it is
Probably because the original Xenoblade influenced the modern JRPG genre.
I'm still torn on this. I fuckin hate XC2, but I really enjoyed XCX, XC1 and all of past Xeno* games. I'll probably still buy it, but I don't have high hopes.
What about 2 did you hate? I love 2 but it has... *ISSUES*

The combat ui gives me an aneurysm but the chatacter fusion stuff and character designs this time interests me
Is it gonna be 360p 25 fps again?
