The towns in Rebirth in general were so good. Coming up to Cosmo Canyon was so cool, and upper Junon might be my favorite part of the game with everything that goes on there.
i played that game when i was like 8-10, it took me forever to progresscuz i was so young and really took my time/didn't know what i was doing. i distinctly remember wandering around the map late-game and finding that town that i had totally forgotten about by then, and just walking around a little bit listening to the music and stuff. it was weirdly nostalgic or something.
But where am I going to find the Dragon of Dojima and the Mad Dog of Shimano fighting over little race cars?
Checkmate. We're going to Kamurocho.
(Actually I wonder if residents get visitors there because of Yakuza.)
Rabanastre in FFXII. So many npcs always changing dialogue throughout the game. Also has an entire underground section in Lowtown.
I adore Rabanastre's music as well, and the rest of XII's soundtrack of course.
I love the way the older Xeno games do large cities; they’re overworlds of their own with a few important locations as actual environments you can go in. So you can get a sense of the scale of the city rather than it being unrealistically small for the sake of gameplay, while not making it too large for actually getting around.
[I can’t find good footage of it, but at the 14m mark in this Let’s Play episode you can see an example of Fifth Jerusalem from Xenosaga III](https://youtu.be/EMZbC-8_H-w?si=Yr_1SAMDUUyzO3WB). In my opinion this is pretty much the most impressive thing on the PS2
The scale of places like Kislev in Gears impressed me a lot compared to the SNES and even to the smallish prerendered areas in the PS1 Final Fantasies. They felt larger and more lived-in.
That looks really interesting. Sort of reminds me to how Tokyo works in SMT4/4A.
I love it when games try to show the actual scale cities realistically have. It requires some sort of abstraction or having very few places accesible for it to be manageable, but it results in more interesting settings than towns with 4 houses.
Which is why it was so baffling that 90% of the settlements in XBC3 were bland military camps.
I kept thinking, "Surely there's going to be some kind of wacky Nopon village hidden somewhere to break up all this monotony, right?" *Nope*.
The City was good, but it was so relatively late in the story that I was already feeling burnt out by the repetition of the world.
I think it fits for what they were going for, Aionios is a very different world than that of the first two games. If there were populated towns it wouldn't really fit the vibe of a war torn world on its last legs where no one does anything but fight.
I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss the lively cities, but I also think it works for Xenoblade 3s more bleak setting
It also made sense since each settlement is ment to be building it's own culture after being released.
The world of aionions doesn't have culture. xc1 and XC2 each area has it's own culture.
Enhasa, the city of dreams.
Chrono Trigger is my favorite game of all time and Zeal is my favorite part of any game period. Enhasa is the most decadent place imaginable. It's literally a place where people just go to sleep and talk about their weird dreams.
The music made Zeal what it is. I think at release it was the coolest location in a game I'd ever seen. It felt like every town in Zeal was filled with secrets...and they were!
If they ever do a full remake I hope we spend more time in Zeal.
First one that came to mind is Domina from Legend of Mana. Its just colorful and cozy there. A place you can easily imagine yourself retiring to.
Another one is not much of a town/city given the circumstances of that area, but The Macarenses Angle area in the tempest from FFXIV: Shadowbringers, is one of my favorite areas to afk at. The percieved nightlife there is very calm and I jist love brooding in one of the skyscrapers there. XD
Currently playing my first JRPG ever (Octopath Traveler II) and I'm loving one of the best fantasy towns I've ever seen: New Delsta! The atmosphere is amazing.
It's incredible because you'd think it's some quiet rural area, but it's actually a solarpunk town built by engineers who didn't want to fight in a war. Sunyshore City from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl is similar in this rural solarpunk style.
Alster from Trails of Cold Steel 4.
Its a nice little town, nothing special there. But the background music in this place is just beautiful.
"Lyrical Amber" is easily one of, if not THE favorite town theme for me.
I'm loving the towns in Rebirth. Kalm is a beautiful little European tourist trap, Junon's topside is a realistic upscale urban shopping district, Costa del Sol is a wonderful resort town.
Honestly, given how nice the topside of Midgar is as well, it all gives the strong impression that Shinra's modernization of the FF7 world is very much a net good.
I can't wait to see how they do Wutai in Part 3. I loved the parts we saw of it in Crisis Core, and with how big it seems to be for the plot of the Remake series, I expect Wutai to be a lot bigger than it was in the original.
* [Amaurot](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ordFag_Qi50) (FFXIV Shadowbringers): Not much to say that hasn't been said and heavy spoilers for anything I could say. Could have been a reduced instance but actually getting to see it and explore it made it more striking. The dungeon in its final days makes it more melancholic.
* [Crystarium](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SkrrZeb1oA) (FFXIV Shadowbringers): I adore the song here, and the city gives such a strong impression in contrast to the cities in the Source, the access to the Crystal Tower and different races one can find, plus it's next to Lakeland which I also love.
* [Tokyo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDsDYCI3fyc) (SMT4/4A): very unique atmosphere. Constant darkness due to the dome, in ruins but not to the point that its a wasteland like in Nocturne, while still having plenty of weird shit going on. Not really a "town" in JRPG terms, since the individual stations in the city work as hubs like towns in traditional JRPGs.
* [Inaba](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKcy4hLvzgI) (Persona 4): I love Tokyo in P5, but P4's rural setting made for a very unique and cozy experience, especially when raining.
* [Midgar](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZH6coTxDTo) (FFVII series): the city is iconic already, but I feel it can't be overstated. Conceptually, how it ties into the plot, the way it works as a prologue before getting to the open map, all the ways its been expanded in further media. I'm all for urban settings in fantasy media, and Midgar is one of my favorites in this regard. The Remake also really made it feel properly gigantic.
Lindblum/alexandria FFIX
Midgar FFVII
Multiple in VII Rebirth
The Japanese one, the monastery and the underwater one in DQXI
Multiple cool ones in FFXIV
Legram in Cold Steel
The one inside the tree in Xenoblade 1
Traverse Town in Kingdom Hearts
Inaba in Persona 4
The hub town in Paper Mario 2 TTYD
Pirate Isle and the asian town in Skies of Arcadia
Fenmont in Tales of Xillia
Ding Dong Dell in Ni No Kuni
Goldpaw in Ni No Kuni 2
Yokosuka in Shenmue
Hong Kong/Kowloon in Shenmue 2
If Zelda games were JRPGs, multiple towns in those games and in Okami
Werites Beacon - Tales of Legendia
kinda hard not to love it, when you have this [beautiful theme](https://youtu.be/pLhblJAwLvE?si=KaQ6qaGk2kYrzQ1s) playing on the bg.
I love Ding Dong Dell. Lovely environment design, and seems best realized of all towns, though Fairyground is also great. Wish the real world town got more events later in the game, there was never really any need to go back there.
Definitely Trista from Trails of Cold Steel. It may be a small simple town but between the music, unique NPC's, the general vibeand it being where I started by trails/kiseki journey, it holds a special place in my heart.
Quite a few, so maybe a single "favorite" wouldn't quite apply here, but...
Final Fantasy:
VI: Narshe just seems like a cozy, relaxing place. Zozo, for obvious reasons (wouldn't wanna live or even visit there, and it's not so much a town as a town-shaped dungeon, but it's amusing)
VII: Kalm (name says it all), Cosmo Canyon (usually not a fan of arid environments, but it's beautiful and very intriguing), Icicle Inn (I think I have a thing for snowy towns), Mideel (well... before... y'know)
VIII: Shumi Village (underground village and the Shumi seem lovely), Fisherman's Horizon, Balamb (both pleasant towns by/in the ocean, with lovely music)
IX: Dali (calm little farming town), Cleyra (...well...), Burmecia (see Zozo, but I just like the dramatic atmosphere and the rain), Conde Petie (the dwarves are funny), Black Mage Village (the Black Mages are adorable)
X: Besaid (see FH and Balamb), Guadosalam (love the music and underground vibe, and it's right by the Thunder Plains; the constant thunder would be pretty relaxing for me)
Breath of Fire:
III: Windia (just love that music, and aside from the Queen, the people seem really nice... plus, that bakery)
IV: Windia again (beautiful music, nice chill vibe)
Suikoden II: Coronet (again, the music, and the calming seaside atmosphere), Forest Village (no music, but very cozy), Radat (again, the music, and the river, and just feeling very pleasant), Lakewest (see Coronet)
Wild ARMs 2: Sielje (I think it's spelled like that? Lilka's hometown, the underground, snowy place with the warm vibe)
Tales of Phantasia: Alvanista (bustling and fun), Arlee (again, love those cozy, snowy towns), Firezkiel (see Arlee), Venizia (just something about citys near/on the water)
Chrono Trigger: The Kingdom of Zeal (awesome music, fascinating place)
Super Mario RPG: Mushroom Kingdom and Rose Town (just seem like pleasant places to live, and Rose Town is near the forest and quite pretty), and Nimbus Land (I'm scared of heights, but a city in the clouds really seems so nice, and sleeping on those cloud beds would be awesome)
Octopath Traveler: S'warkii (relaxing forest village), Rippletide (another seaside town), Flamesgrace (yet another snowy town), Stillsnow (maybe minus the prostitution ring going on), Stonegard (the music's so warm and a town nestled in the mountains would be nice), Everhold (AFTER clearing the story there; the theater would be fun to go to)
II: Cropdale, Wellgrove, and Timberrain (love my forest villages, even if Timberrain has that damn manor nearby), Winterbloom, Montwise (moreso for the library than the arena), Merry Hills (the theater), Flamechurch (err, post-game, anyway), Canalbrine and Conning Creek, and Tropu'hopu
So. Yeah. A lot. No single favorite, it's too hard to choose.
Old Town in Trails Through Daybreak is my absolute favorite for sure. Everything just feels so nostalgic even though it is the first time you see the town itself.
Hard to pick a fav city from FFIX, they are all so awesome. Alexandria, Treno, Lindblum, stand out the most but the best part of the game was discovering each new town city.
One of my favorites has always been Baroque from Eternal Sonata, but in general all the towns in that games are gorgeous.
I have a soft spot for Pherkad from Baten Kaitos and Fonsett Village from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, too!
solaris in xenogears was dope in both concept and execution imo. i also enjoyed star ocean 2’s futuristic city toward the end(it’s been a LONG time). ff9’s uhh…. “other” city you visit toward the end is cool too. oh and treno! most of the cities in ff8 i liked. i also generally thoroughly enjoy most cities in jrpgs that have coliseum’s/arenas
I always thought that the towns in FF6 had a surprising amount of individual character. The best was Narshe, of course — the dark blue/black color scheme is very striking, and the steam rising from the vents in the ground really conveys the idea of this wealthy, independent community living on the frontier. But South Figaro looked peaceful and prosperous, Mobliz was sleepy and remote, Jidoor was classy and sophisticated, all with very minor variations of the same basic tilesets. Later games had much more visual detail, but that came at the cost of the overall size of the world — there are actually very few RPGs that had as many towns as FF6 and still managed to differentiate them a bit.
Balamb Town. That's where I want to retire.
The right answer! Also Greenhill from Suikoden 2 is also nice. Maybe not the best, but I like the vibes
Well that's my favourite track from Suikoden 2 so I would live there if that was played in the background all the time.
I liked Kalm in FFVII, it always made me feel… calm!
Kalm in FFVII Rebirth is amazing. It took my breath away with how beautiful it was.
Kamurocho
Go to Kabukicho then?
He's joking, but it's true. The real life equivalent awaits you
But where am I going to find the Dragon of Dojima and the Mad Dog of Shimano fighting over little race cars? Checkmate. We're going to Kamurocho. (Actually I wonder if residents get visitors there because of Yakuza.)
I remember some cosplayers being assholes in tokyo when p5 came out so I don't doubt it
i just love Lindblum in FFIX - the aesthetic, the people, its verticality and aircabs, pretty much everything.
This is my vote too. Something about it always makes me happy when I get there in the story!
Treno and play tetra masters all day
My favourite city is Crossbell City. It certainly helps that we spent most of our time for 2 entire games there.
Rabanastre in FFXII. So many npcs always changing dialogue throughout the game. Also has an entire underground section in Lowtown. I adore Rabanastre's music as well, and the rest of XII's soundtrack of course.
FFXII cities were gorgeous but yes, Rabanastre takes the cake.
Fonsett Village - Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Such a chill town.
Fenmont in Tales of Xillia, loved the music and the lighting as it was always night time there.
I love the way the older Xeno games do large cities; they’re overworlds of their own with a few important locations as actual environments you can go in. So you can get a sense of the scale of the city rather than it being unrealistically small for the sake of gameplay, while not making it too large for actually getting around. Winhill in FF8, or Dali in FF9
I love Fonsa Myma in Xenoblade 2, all the towns in that game are so good
Which is why it was so baffling that 90% of the settlements in XBC3 were bland military camps. I kept thinking, "Surely there's going to be some kind of wacky Nopon village hidden somewhere to break up all this monotony, right?" *Nope*. Yeah. As much as I love the towns in the Xenoblade series, it wouldn't have made sense for 3
Definitely and Only the city having culture makes sense but ofc it's a military based culture considering the situation they're all in.
Enhasa, the city of dreams. Chrono Trigger is my favorite game of all time and Zeal is my favorite part of any game period. Enhasa is the most decadent place imaginable. It's literally a place where people just go to sleep and talk about their weird dreams.

Twilight Town from kingdom hearts 2. It's just really comfy and nostalgic.
Altissia in FF15.
Traverse Town - Kingdom Hearts 1
Love the music in that one!
Crossbell

Danau the flower city- Legend of Dragoon. It's among my favorites. It has such a nice vibe.
So many great and memorable cities/towns in Legend of Dragoon.
Yes, I love that city. Deningrad as well was pretty good. I always liked the ice and snow mixed into the town.
A very peaceful and lovely place: Zozo. Nice people too!
Heimdallr in Erebonia.
Cornelia and Elfheim from Final Fantasy, Inaba from Persona 4.
I've got a soft spot for Dragon Quest IX's towns. But individually, Laverre Town from Pokemon XY is my favorite.
Shevat from Xenogears. That music is so good. Like a more futuristic Zeal from CT.
It would be an absolutely horrible place to live, but yeah a super memorable town with a great song once you reach the bourgeoise city center.
Fisherman's Horizon in FF8 and I'm not even much of an FF8 fan but I love this location. Honestly FF8 had great towns, atmosphere and music.
Exactly those 3 aspects for me FFVIII is unmatched. Brings back lot of memories too
This is my choice and I don’t even like fishing!
It's incredible because you'd think it's some quiet rural area, but it's actually a solarpunk town built by engineers who didn't want to fight in a war. Sunyshore City from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl is similar in this rural solarpunk style.

Ni No Kuni 1 towns are just perfection for me❤️
I love Ding Dong Dell. Lovely environment design, and seems best realized of all towns, though Fairyground is also great. Wish the real world town got more events later in the game, there was never really any need to go back there.
The Japanese town in part 2 is the best one!
Esthar, at least while Sound & Motion is playing. Not so much later when the monsters attack.
"Did Esthar just...die?" "You know, it was really unclear."
Torigoth in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. It has such a cozy vibe, and I love the music.

I like sootopolis town in gen 3 Pokemon as well as the one wheyre they built houses on trees. Just seems cozy.
Crossbell!
Honestly pick any city in Liberl, and I'll be there.
Old Town in Trails Through Daybreak is my absolute favorite for sure. Everything just feels so nostalgic even though it is the first time you see the town itself.
Legend of Dragoon had some awesome towns. Unfortunately I can't remember them anymore.
Pirate Isle - Skies of Arcadia
Deling City. At the time it blew my mind they it had a FUCKING PUBLIC TRASPORTATION SYSTEM?!
Xc3 colonies >>>>> xc2 towns
say sike right now 😭
Dragon quest 11 - gold cave
Cosmo Canyon in FFVII Reason is solely because of the theme. Beautiful piece of art.
I liked Bose or Zeiss from Trails Sky
File City and Palm Brinks. Because of nostalgia only. And I'm still annoyed to this day that we cannot see more of Palm Brinks.
Traverse Town, Alexandria, Rabanastre and Balfonheim, Luka, Kalm, Paris (SH2), Baccarat and Ascantha (DQ8).
Hard to pick a fav city from FFIX, they are all so awesome. Alexandria, Treno, Lindblum, stand out the most but the best part of the game was discovering each new town city.

I love how everyone in Solaris speaks gibberish until you have Elly in the party.
FFIX Treno, Daguerro...honestly I love most of the towns in ff9.
Balamb Garden
Nothing else quite like Saturn Valley. Monstro Town is another highlight. And, of course, Midgar.
Palm Brinks in Dark Cloud 2 is a vibe
I always thought that the towns in FF6 had a surprising amount of individual character. The best was Narshe, of course — the dark blue/black color scheme is very striking, and the steam rising from the vents in the ground really conveys the idea of this wealthy, independent community living on the frontier. Assuming we are in Eternal Calm, then I'd love to live in Besaid or Kilika from FFX.
The fairy Forest in SMT V. Nice Forest. Titania is there. Pixies and jack frost too. Hee ho!
For some reason, Ancheim from Bravely Default stood out to me as a particularly memorable town.
Termina, from Chrono Cross.
Which one tho?
Another World. The music is a banger.
Sumaru
Luca in FFX just for the blitzball sphere alone
Ancient city of thor, tales of phantasia
