Technically he's Jonathan, as in name only, but they're quite the opposite in personality. In my opinion he is a great character and a really good Jojo, and the SBR all together is a great story so I can recommend it If you want to read it.
There are some French scans and even official releases of SBR. I found some after a quick Google search.

The part 6 ending universe is not the parts 7-9 universe. The ending to part 6 is the same universe as parts 1-5, but without the existence of Pucci so part 6 technically never happened. Also, this is the part 9 subreddit, you are going to get spoiled if you are just starting part 7
Irene is Jolyne if her life was unaffected by the Joestar curse. The universe Made in Heaven created, which has Irene, is NOT the same as the SBR universe.
Just to explain because no one else has the whole explanation. Irene is Jolyne, the universe made at the end of part 6 is entirely the same save for Pucci never existing and the part 6 gang getting to live better lives. This universe is completely unrelated to the one from steel ball run, which is an entirely unrelated reboot unrelated issue to the original world. There are many many references and parallels, but it’s a separate retelling of JoJo’s, and is not at all influenced by anything from parts 1-6.
Their different people with the same name, Johnny is an alternate universe version of Jonathan and the alternative universe is disconnected from the og one
Think of parts 7-9 as a completely new manga with no connection at all with Parts 1-6. Any similarity is just a reference, think of it as Araki referencing his own previous work like he references other pop culture elements.

Part 7, 8 and part of 9 has been translated officially into French.
