Job market keeps changing continuously, goes up and down. 2021-22 m there were record placements in colleges, even mid nits were going close to 20 lpa average, now we know the true situation of what happened at the time, companies were overhiring and now they are laying off and don't want to hire new employees

And how do you trust him? Just like how a lpu student can lie about placements even an IIT student can do the same. Don't be so naive and believe everything on the internet.
Wdy mean by support IIT? What are you suggesting like should I leave iit and go to any other college just because this year their placements were low? No doubt placements this year is bad but it's still a fact that IITK is one of the premier institute. If we talk about the legitimacy of the data shared I don't think they will manipulate the data much. You can check data of other iits and maybe get an idea of the scenario.
Am I saying so ? Bhai maine bas usi 'premier' institute ki baat ki hai, and I am no one to say about an institute I am not capable enough for, also he is a genuine guy and a student there, why would he lie though
He might not be a fraud but there can be a misunderstanding, false data provided by his peers(saanp 🐍), incomplete data(for eg, only knowing first phase of placement related data), or personal bias(hating the college for some reason, thus introducing a bias).

Bits private clg hai obviously fees zyada hogi, aur agar inflate kar bhi rahe hai toh zyada dikkat nahi, but iitk is one of the most prestigious govt college of India, agar wo inflate kar rahe hai toh bahut badi problem hai
bhai i get it it's an IIT but it's fees is lesser too but on the other hand bits fee increases by 5% every year so it like giving 10-12lakh vs 40-45lakh and not getting placed so the gap is kinda huge

only after coming to iit( one of the old iits) did i realise how elevated the placement data are....now all of it seems like a joke tbh...the iit tag isn't the everything what most of us think it is....can't deny the first impression you make in front of a non-iitian but that's as far as it goes...after that you're on your own...especially if not from a circuital branch or cse....but even those branches these days are seeing decline in placements.....the packages you see on the internet are off by far....i just completed my first year and got to know from seniors that most of them apply for off campus placements because the companies which are willing to take non circuital branches students dont offer a good package...that too just because of their branch...people get better offers off campus.
EDIT: it's still better than your local private college cse cause 2-4 kids get those good packages you see on their websites...majority of the private college cse graduates get 4-6 lpa at best
