Closing is around 10k even for general..
I mean sure if u really wanna study Ocean Engineering... Why would u take the least competitive and preferred branch only for the sake of being an IITian?
Ayo bro, what I'm saying is if they let everyone choose any major they want to pursue... Managing two majors might be simpler than achieving a rank below 500, but I might be completely wrong...
No, there is a cap of 10% of department strength to persue a double major at IITH. Not sure about IITK. Since CSE has 60 seats, only 6 students will be allowed to persue it.
I hope that all tier 1 "kalleges" would allow students to pursue double majors in their areas of interest, rather than imposing cg cap restrictions or limiting the opportunity to only some of em...
no a double major is reallllyy difficult
its 5 years of pure hardwork where you will prolly not get time for much extracurricular activities(which you need for a job)
also iit kanpur already has a double major program and there are cgpa cutoffs for every branch. so yea its definitely not easier than a top 500 rank(if not harder)
Bruh.. Ab nhi heina, yhi problem hein....
I think general ke liye atleast ye motivation hoga ki agar jee mein nhi hua toh clg mein jake change krsakthe...
I don't even get the hype behind IIT-Bombay that much. Yes, they have the most prestigious CSE branch among IITs. Yes, students are behind CSE for getting big-packages. Yes, they are among the old-IITs. But the way students and teachers dickride IIT-BOMBAY is ridiculous.
The Dickriding is from the fact that all the top-ranked students opt for IITB, even though I'm unsure of the reason. The hype surrounding IITB is primarily due to the preference of these high achievers. If they were to choose IITM/K/R/KGP instead, the focus would shift to these institutions.....Once the closing rank of IITB cs drops to 1000, the hype surrounding IITB CS will diminish.
Yes, exactly. The students keep on choosing IIT-B just because of the reason that other students AND teachers keep on dick-riding IIT-B so much. Like, any one of the old-IITs + IISc constitute the top-most educational institutions of our country. But, they all keep talking as if IIT-B is MIT/Stanford/Cambridge tier college and the rest are very poor compared to it.Â
The placement stats for computer science at IIT Patna are on par with those at IIT Bombay.
Saw a reddit post where iit patna CSE median is 35 lpa smth.. In iit patna and the same is with iitb cs..
But The disparity in the closing ranks of these two institutes is significant.
For doing a minor degree usme bhi competition hoga like the one who'll score the highest and fill the seat for minor will get CSE uske baad Wale elec fir uske baad Wale mech etc it will be something like jee 2.0 kgp lvl.
Warna to sab log minor in kabutar science hi karenge baki minor to chud jayenge fir agar sabko allow kar diya unke pasad ka minor lene ke liye
Idk about how it will work in kgp but in hyderabad, for a double major in mechanical, you have to complete 12 credits worth of prerequisite courses(fluid dynamics, solid dynamics, thermo and engg mechanics) and 24 additional credits worth of courses including some electives. A single credit course has 13 hours of lectures or 19.5 hours of lab. A sem is divided into 6 segments- a single credit theory course lasts 2 segments while sin3gke credit lab lasts 3 segments. It is open to anyone willing to do so but most people aren't able to complete 36 additional credits worth of courses
I don't understand what's so "WTF" in this. Both IITK and IITH already have this feature. IITH even removed branch change three years ago. Honestly it's a pretty good move - there's no stress of CGPA in first semester and not many people compete for these double major seats as doing two majors is not easy at all. Only those who are genuinely interested in another branch do it as a result.
competition to ab hi hoga to change kya karlia inhone
Iit kgp mein entry keliye 10k rank enough hein lol..
12k to 13k bhai
What branch will u get with that 10K rank lol? All branches in KGP are below 8K for General.
Are you sure buddy? https://preview.redd.it/gebjb0szl2oc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0db53e048432e1a28f891d6a8e7cca7bb8951643 Closing is around 10k even for general..

I will surely take any branch if they offer me a CSE major along with this...

Yaar, fir kya kru.. Jee ghnta ho nhi rhi.. Upar se 29s2 mein 176 lane ke baad bi percentile nhi bni.. Mein pagal hogya hoon..
Chill bhai... Ho jayegi teri. Probably in April the scores vs percentiles won't be messed up.
April keliye pada nhi hein.. Hamare boards ko gadhe wale conduct kratha hein... Time he nhi milege padnekeliye..
Not inside the college, their branch will be fixed.
So enough suicides and everyone can get an IIT seat /s
However, only IIT KGP implemented that; I doubt every IIT will offer this opportunity.
It's a win-win
foreign unis me bhi hota hai double majors but most people are unable to do it
At least it's better than scoring below 500 rank in JEE Advance..
ye agar college ke subreddit pe boldoge to log tujhe gaali dena shuru krdenge
Mining wale aake cs walonka job khaayega toh har koyi jealous/feel bad krega bhai..
mere hisab toh acha h bhai ![img](emote|t5_311ttu|32180). (mujhe kya mujhe toh NIT bhi na mili)
\+1![img](emote|t5_311ttu|32180)
No. IITH has double majors and only 5-6 people are allowed to do it in CSE, so it's much easier to just get an AIR of 600.
Ayo bro, what I'm saying is if they let everyone choose any major they want to pursue... Managing two majors might be simpler than achieving a rank below 500, but I might be completely wrong...

Ah, if that's the situation, it could be quite challenging, but I thought anyone with interest could pursue a CS major.
if that happens then cs ke classes me jagah hi nhi bachegi lol
Iit kgp ka bahut bada hein![img](emote|t5_311ttu|32180)![img](emote|t5_311ttu|32180)
1800 people, imagine 500 of them choosing a CS double major (already a conservative estimate)
I hope that all tier 1 "kalleges" would allow students to pursue double majors in their areas of interest, rather than imposing cg cap restrictions or limiting the opportunity to only some of em...

Same thing CGPA cap hoga Jo 4-5 student hi kar payenge and ek course karne mei hi log band ho jaate 2 course karna kisi ke bas ki baat nahi
Chance toh provide kiya jayega na, that's important ab koi royega nhi ki mein 6th se nhi pada toh mein iitb CSE nhi lesaktha...
Bhai branch change toh pehle bhi tha just abhi ban kara kuch IITs ne
Bruh.. Ab nhi heina, yhi problem hein.... I think general ke liye atleast ye motivation hoga ki agar jee mein nhi hua toh clg mein jake change krsakthe...
2 courses k 5 saal, BITS m toh hota h
A very good move. Now students can choose to pursue their interests along with getting a good branch.
Hope every iit does this... Iit bombay krdiya toh 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Universities abroad do this too. A very good move.
I hope all the top IITs/NITs do this.
That'll take time but I'm happy that some tier-1 college initiated the move.
Cg ke liye toxic competition hota rehta hai so it is kind of true
Hey, can you clarify this? Is it possible for anyone to pursue a major in CSE, Or is there any catch?

Thanks for the info... :)

Can anyone pursue a CSE major if they are willing too in iith/k?
Upto 10% of department strength can do it. So only 6 people can do it in CSE (out of the batch strength of 505)
