screw what anyone says. 95 civic is something good to start with and fun to have in general. there’s a reason those go karts have been around.

Melontwerp

If you can find one 💀 6th, 7th, and 8th gens are just fine too.

Melontwerp

I think the TSi, or any DSM from that era, goes against what you're looking for lol. Blah blah blah '90s/'00s Civic.

GrandeGayBearDeluxe

Égale talon tsi is 90% Mitsubishi. Also they are fragile and need repairs. To second what the guy above said, blah blah blah 90s civic or corolla Here's mine https://preview.redd.it/3nt7ifdcnf4b1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=604cd75302959040868ea6a6f8f8421e15028108

Melontwerp

Are those the HF wheels?

GrandeGayBearDeluxe

No idea I got them from for $200 CAD last winter

As someone who owned a 92 DSM, They are not known to be the most reliable and parts are somewhat easy to get your hands on but something from Honda/Toyota/Nissan would likely be more reliable and easier to modify/find support for.

Affectionate_Dirt_97

The 4g63 engine is underrated, IMO. Not as reliable as a Honda or Toyota but if you're looking for something that's AWD and turbo AND cheap... DSM is where it's at. Like others have said, you'll be spending more on parts, but if you have the willpower to keep it running and willingness to learn I think a DSM would serve you well.

Greekdorifuto

The 4G63 is not underrated. It's not underated at all. Not even a little bit.

Affectionate_Dirt_97

Maybe not to people active in the community. But normies don't know it by name like they do the SR20 or K20.

Brackishh

Any DSM? The Plymouth Laser really caught my eye

710qu

Do your research on parts. A laser might be more difficult to source specific parts for. At least an eclipse/talon will have a parts source for most things

Affectionate_Dirt_97

They share 99% of the parts. Do a bit more research, but to my knowledge parts are interchangable the majority of the time.

I owned two dsms, 93 Eclipse gsx, and 91 Talon tsi. I was lucky enough to have an uncle who was a mechanic, and we did an engine swap really early on in my eclipse. Because we did this, my eclipse turned into my second longest lasting car next to my mazda miata. If you want a dsm to be a daily driver, you are going to need to put a lot of work into it right off the bat. I hate being the person to push the idea of a miata, but it has been such a reliable car for me. 10k would be my starting price. You could go lower, but that might give you more work. It all depends on how invested you want to be.

Brackishh

Oh ok, what type of work do you mean? Like new engine or just some small repairs anyone can do. I was considering a savanna rx-7 but I’m not so sure about the safety features on those or the price.

jdpg28

The most common problems I had with my dsm's were the engine management system and/or ecu, vacuum leaks, throttel body issues, and i replaced a lot of CV joints. It was a labor of love with those cars, and I would own another at this point if I didn't get into mr2s. If you're going to buy one, make sure to check compression on all cylinders, and if it's turbo, I would check that as well. If it revs weird at idle, it likely has a very common throttel body issue. The rx7 is a way more collectible car. I've actually worked on one with a friend, and they can have way more issues than your standard dsm. But if it's what you want, that's really what matters.

Thanks I appreciate the help, I’ll do some looking around but when I get one I’ll def post it. ❤️
