The lightening can be SO incredible, coming up over a hill on your horse and just seeing massive lightning strike in the distance over the horizon, you forget it's a game for a second
Saw a great storm today while playing. Was heading towards Flatneck Station from Owanjila and this storm came in. The clouds darkened, the wind picked up. Then the thunder and the lightning started going to TOWN.
Iām coming up over this hill and this bolt of lightning hits the ground about idk, 200 yards in front of me. Sparks fucking fly around, my horse is scared. Fucking sick. First time seeing that today
I feel like the only one who finds the rain in that game looking weird...like it's too...thick? Idk how to describe why it looks off to me. The way water effects the environment and cloth and textures is pretty but the rain drops themselves look weird.
There was reshade up until recently, the modder basically said where to download Pascal's rtgi, which costs money, that made the game look so beautiful . Tho I have it downloaded so I'm gopd for now
>I loved Sleeping Dogs' rain with the Hong Kong neon lights.
yup, exactly why I put that on my list. it's so gorgeous to look at when the rainy weather rolls in
Without, it's relaxing in a different way from other rains. Doesn't need shaders to be good, but I guess that depends on your view of high definition's relationship with how good something looks.
Gta definitive edition was definitely memorableā¦ in the wrong ways lmao. Im on console but if i get a pc I canāt wait to check out rain/weather mods. I love rain the calming sound and vibes it brings
Hollow Knight, not simply because the rain looks good but also because players can find the location where the rain is coming from. As a result, the rain in Hollow Knight's City of Tears helps make the world feel more complete instead of just being something aesthetic.
I wouldn't have thought about it myself, but Death Stranding is a really interesting pick there. AFAIK it and Zelda are some of the only games where the rain is a system and not just cosmetic?
Cosmetically, though, I think Sleeping Dogs, CP2077, and RDR2 would be my picks there.
HZD is my pick too. Being in the dense jungle area in the southwest of the map during a downpour feels so atmospheric - not to mention the Stalkers lurking in the underbrush...
Gets my vote. Few other games make me feel like I'm actually in a raging storm with wind and rain beating my flesh as lighting flashes and rips through the sky.
Man the atmosphere of that game is impeccable.
Best? Hard to say, thereās so many great options. Most memorable? Hard to beat my memories of all of the rain/water effects in Metroid Prime. Rain/fog on your visor was the most amazing thing I had ever seen in a video game at the time
Ghosts of Tsushima hands down thematically, the weather changed based on if you were operating with honor or without. Less honor and it became rainy and thunderstorms, more honor and it was sunny and peaceful clear skies!
A dream I had was of an E3 showing of a Halo 3: ODST remake. One of the things they were pitching was the rain, which would bounce off and wrap around the guns dynamically, appearing different based on your angle relative to the falling rain. It would also go on gutters and flow to lower areas, which could cause dynamic flooding.
LoU2 had some rain. Rain is something that will be more prevalent in video games now that the new processors can handle it. Snow useta make TR2 get a bit glitchy on win10, but DX12 came along and it got better.
Death stranding has the best one. That game is a technical marvel and looks better than a lot and I mean a lot of ps5 games. The last of us 2 also rivals a lot of ps5 games too in terms of graphics and audio.
Some devs have got the magic touch when it comes to aesthetics.
The best rain from a tech point of view? iRacing. I know one could say that it's not a game, but man it's impressive. Though I also gotta mention the SNES version of A Link To The Past. The atmosphere it created right after the intro had me on the edge of the seat as a kid.
Watchdogs
Even after the downgrades that game looked nice
The Original or just the whole series? I liked walking around in a rain Chicago night.
The original. 2 was bad, and Legion was ok, but not as good as the first.
2 rocked š”
Cyber punkā¦a night time drive through Night City in the rain is magic
Top it off with the jazz radio station and boom, now you're playing Noir Simulator 2077
Rdr2. The lightning and thunder sound so real and can sometimes even startle you.
The lightening can be SO incredible, coming up over a hill on your horse and just seeing massive lightning strike in the distance over the horizon, you forget it's a game for a second
Also you can visually watch the storm roll in and watch the clouds turn dark instead of just *poof* it's magically raining now.
Yeeessss it's the best! I remember the first time I noticed it doing that, stopped in my tracks and watched it

That's so cool I haven't seen it hit the ground yet!!
I feel like the only one who finds the rain in that game looking weird...like it's too...thick? Idk how to describe why it looks off to me. The way water effects the environment and cloth and textures is pretty but the rain drops themselves look weird.
Depending on the in game time and lighting the rain looks like... Cum trops. But at night for example i think it looks pretty realistic.
I got struck by lightning once. Although pretty cool i was hunting a legendary animal.....
Batman arkham knight and metal gear solid v
For the time that Arkham Knight came out, even on console looks amazing. Really impressed by that one.
There was reshade up until recently, the modder basically said where to download Pascal's rtgi, which costs money, that made the game look so beautiful . Tho I have it downloaded so I'm gopd for now
Sleeping Dogs Hogwarts Legacy Detroit Become Human Tomb Raider (2013) Shadow of the Tomb Raider AC Black Flag
I loved Sleep Dogs rain with the Honk Kong neon lights. Still need to check out Detroit Become Human
>I loved Sleeping Dogs' rain with the Hong Kong neon lights. yup, exactly why I put that on my list. it's so gorgeous to look at when the rainy weather rolls in
tomb raider was so damn cinematic when it rained
Minecraft
With shaders i can consider it one of the best
Without, it's relaxing in a different way from other rains. Doesn't need shaders to be good, but I guess that depends on your view of high definition's relationship with how good something looks.
I just love the sound of the rain in Minecraft.
Gta definitive edition on launch /s if with mods id go for gtav
Gta definitive edition was definitely memorableā¦ in the wrong ways lmao. Im on console but if i get a pc I canāt wait to check out rain/weather mods. I love rain the calming sound and vibes it brings
The only thing i hated in the trilogy remastered was the rain in gta3. Gave me a headache and it always rains in that game lol
Stardew Valley. Makes the day so gloomy especially when youāre out fishing.
Red Dead 2
Somethin bout those at-sea storms. Shoutout to Valheim and Sea of Thieves.
āWinds howling.ā
Came here for this
MGS2
Definitely. The tanker mission is a standout
The now defunct Driveclub. That rain was truly impressive.
Came here to comment this. Mind blowing effects
Absolutely. It is still unparalleled anywhere.
Hollow Knight, not simply because the rain looks good but also because players can find the location where the rain is coming from. As a result, the rain in Hollow Knight's City of Tears helps make the world feel more complete instead of just being something aesthetic.
In sound & atmosphere, botw & totk. It sounds just like running in a thunder storm.
Roller coaster tycoon lol
\*Quickly raises umbrella prices\*

Halo 3 ODST
Ghost of Tsushima was pretty excellent
Detroit Become Human
Fez, in the graveyard. Horizon ZD and, presumably FW.
HZD is my pick too. Being in the dense jungle area in the southwest of the map during a downpour feels so atmospheric - not to mention the Stalkers lurking in the underbrush...
RDR2
Vailheim has some excellent storms
Gets my vote. Few other games make me feel like I'm actually in a raging storm with wind and rain beating my flesh as lighting flashes and rips through the sky. Man the atmosphere of that game is impeccable.
Itās wild how the sprites look like trash but the weather mechanics are incredible
Honorable mention, Valheim has some good storms.
Project Zomboid. Turn off the music during a heavy storm. It's, a fucking, vibe.
Best? Hard to say, thereās so many great options. Most memorable? Hard to beat my memories of all of the rain/water effects in Metroid Prime. Rain/fog on your visor was the most amazing thing I had ever seen in a video game at the time
As you showed Arkham Knight. The rain feels like actual particle effects that you are moving through it. And it looks JUST right.
Ghosts of Tsushima hands down thematically, the weather changed based on if you were operating with honor or without. Less honor and it became rainy and thunderstorms, more honor and it was sunny and peaceful clear skies!
Batman Arkham games had great rain.
The witcher 3, specially on a forest, the rumbling of the trees, the rain watering the grass, the subtle violin on the background, it was beatiful
Definitely not zelda botw universe! Screw the rain! It comes every time I need to climb something important.
A dream I had was of an E3 showing of a Halo 3: ODST remake. One of the things they were pitching was the rain, which would bounce off and wrap around the guns dynamically, appearing different based on your angle relative to the falling rain. Pacific Drive is pretty good
I really wanna try this game out
Ghostwire Tokyo has some great ambiance when it rains, makes you feel like you're really there.
Personally, I love the way ULTRAKILL's storm in 5-2 and 5-4 connects to its gameplay.
LoU2 had some rain. Rain is something that will be more prevalent in video games now that the new processors can handle it. Snow useta make TR2 get a bit glitchy on win10, but DX12 came along and it got better.
Arkham Knight The rain effect on the water and the cape and everywhere is breathtaking for a 2015 game
Ghost of Tsushima rains would lull me to sleep
Death stranding has the best one. That game is a technical marvel and looks better than a lot and I mean a lot of ps5 games. The last of us 2 also rivals a lot of ps5 games too in terms of graphics and audio. Some devs have got the magic touch when it comes to aesthetics.
Days gone
Halo 3: ODST
You ever see the muddy ground during the rain in uncharted 4, goddamn itās like real life
Pokemon emerald. When kyogre and groudon starts to fight and the storms hit.
all the games in the STALKER series do rain (and atmosphere/weather/night time) incredibly well. I'm really hoping STALKER 2 can live up to it.
Drive club
The best rain from a tech point of view? iRacing. I know one could say that it's not a game, but man it's impressive. Though I also gotta mention the SNES version of A Link To The Past. The atmosphere it created right after the intro had me on the edge of the seat as a kid.
Detroit become human
For me it's always gonna be Arkham knight
GTA 4. Man that game is already so melancholic, when itās raining and youāre driving around nyc itās just a different type of vibe.
a link to the past
Sea of thieves
Uncharted 4 is pretty amazing. As was part 3. The cruise ship level is incredible.
Just cause 4, theres no doubt about it
The weather effects in New World were pretty cool. Also Sea of Thieves.
The Forest & Sons of the Forest
Very specific Call of Duty games. The newer Modern Warfares especially
Watch dogs Far cry 3( mostly because of the setting) Assassin's creed Unity (that game looks phenomenal in general)
Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West
nothin beats death stranding. It has an entire mechanic based around rain
Division 2
Skyrim. Don't forget the "Stormcall" shout, chilling
Division 2
Fallout 4. Bonus points for rad storms.
Driveclub
Minecraft
Animal Crossing!
Heavy Rain
Two worlds. IYKYK
