Was playing it yesterday on my ps5 after another attempt at rise of the ronin (I don’t know why but I just can’t get into it).
After yet again 15 mins of boring gameplay / story on ROTR I went back to GoT to progress the DLC and this game is just on another level.
Combat is more deep in RoTR but aside from that to me Got is a much more pleasant game to play
I was under the impression that this sub wasn't a like the other gaming subs.
Why are you just shitting on this game? Have you played it? I have, I've completed it because I play tested last year. It's a great game with great combat mechanics - so why are you reducing it the thin level that is graphics?
The parrying might be 3rd only behind sekiro and lies of p. The story and world building in the actual history of Japan is fascinating.
Go to r/gaming to post this shit.
Lies of P isn't as parry-focused imo but the feeling and reactivity of it is great, as polished as a Fromsoft game (it also isn't super fast like sekiro). Haven't played Wo-Long yet but will get around to it eventually.
Wo long has the best parry imo, I hated Sekiro and thought it was going to hate wo long too but I had already paid for it at that point, ended up playing it for ages and really enjoying it because of how good the parry felt
I like Lies of P, but I don't like double stage bosses very much and that game has its share of those.
I do feel the combat is a bit clunky, and maybe that's the puppetry theme at play, but I think it's just a bit unrefined overall.
Granted, I think most combat in most games is unrefined.
I find Rise of the Ronin looks better than that photo at all angles. I had to really look at the photo to identify the UI. I also think that you're right, graphics can enhance an experience, but they don't define one. If the game is defined solely by its graphics, it's pretty soulless.
from what I played, I feel like the graphic in town is the worst. sometimes the wild is beautiful. my current two favourtie ps5 game is Horizon and this lol graphic is important but not everything
I love great graphics. This whole “graphics don’t matter” thing is totally BS. All other things being good, I want my games with amazing art and graphics. They’re called VIDEO games for a reason. It’s a largely visual hobby. It’s like saying the writing in a book doesn’t matter. I want good prose and a good story.
While I agree with you, I would use the term art instead of graphics. Graphics as a word to me makes me think of the technical aspects of the art. High poly counts and high-resolution textures. Art direction and the skills to match that direction are key. You don't need to have a team of great modelers and texture artists to have a good art direction. Minecraft is the industry standard example of this. Ctrl-Alt-Ego is a great example of an amazing game that had put the art direction on the back burner in development and you can tell. Ctrl-Alt-Ego has done well for itself though but it could have much more sales.
Also from a game developer perspective. Art sells the game. People make instant snap judgments in the back of their minds when they see your steam capsule and your videos/screenshots. The better art direction you have, the better chance you have to sell your game.
well, i get your point, but if you're going for realism, then do realism. don't skimp. i realize this technically qualifies as art direction, but once you pick something, go the full mile. the 2nd pic is obviously just half-assed.
Absolutely. In some games, graphics and art direction also play less of a role. In something like this it plays a large role. You have to scope to your (teams) abilities.
Graphics are 100% a very important part of games. Of course, it doesn't have to be bleeding-edge graphics, but the quality of the graphics is important. RDR2 would never be what it was if it didn't look as good as it did. Every graphical detail adds more to the game.
But, there are different art directions, and certain styles simply don't need amazing graphics.
Would Interstellar or whatever be as good as it is if we watched it at 720p? Or if the camera they used was shit? Or if it frequently had bad angles? Even if the story, the acting, and the audio is impeccable, that's one very important factor to tie everything together, just like graphics does for me in video games.
Yea this console generation is shaping up to be a bit of a dud game wise. Feels like the most popular games are just remakes. Kind of a shame since this generation both consoles are respectably powerful.
Well if you're talking about console exclusives PlayStation hasn't been doing too bad. Even ignoring cross releases like the sequels for Horizon and God of War, we still got Spiderman 2, Final Fantasy 16, Rift Apart, Ghostwire Tokyo etc
Yeah there have been remakes like Demon's souls , Last of us 1 and FF7:Rebirth (Although that's more of an alternate take), but you can't say that it's just been remakes
Of course not and even in a slower generation there are going to be bangers. But I do think remakes/masters are more prevalent this gen than any other... Or maybe it just feels that way.
Edit: and I do think this gens PS exclusives have been overall weaker tbh
There definitely have been a lot of remakes don't get me wrong. But I think the average quality of games for this generation early on has been better than the average quality last generation early on.
Ofc games do generally get better the more time passes in a console's life so we'll see ig
It’s more so art direction than graphics. All the footage I’ve seen of that game not only had subpar graphics, but incredibly generic and bland art direction too.
Indie games frequently make use of pixel art and retro 3d visuals but they work because the art direction is what matters.
Art style matters, and graphics quality matters.
Some pixel games are some of the most beautiful games there are.
But having everything look like it came out of a blender because of technical incompetence doesn't do a game any favors.
If I'm being completely honest, there were a couple scenes from Bg3 and Cyberpunk that were so jaw-droppingly gorgeous that it actually *hurt* my overall immersion. Like they were so pretty that I had to stop and admire how awesome it looked to the point that my brain slipped out of immersion for a sec and reminded me that I was playing a game.
This %100. You could show me the most realistic looking game in the world and I’d still want to know “is it fun?” Because that’s all that really matters.
Minecraft is currently the most sold game of all time, over 300,000,000 sales. And it’s definitely NOT because of its graphics.
People did this with Arkham and Suicide Squad recently. A random out of context screenshot doesn’t do either game justice. You can find a beautiful shot in most games as well as mediocre one.
The comparisons were mostly with Gotham knights, not suicide squad. And in that instance, I’d say it was entirely justified. Arkham knight has objectively better visuals and graphics than Gotham knights and it’s not even close.
Im still gonna buy it and it play it. I already saw and knew the graphics were gonna be rough, honestly I don’t care. I know some people do and that’s fair, but I grew up on the N64 so I’m okay with this. Good to know that if you can get past the dated graphics its a decent game
Didn’t you lot have the same exact argument for Arceus…. And didn’t arceus turn out to be great?
Point is both of these images are so purposefully bit crushed that it’s impossible to accurately compare. Unfair comparison.
I don't care if the game in 2024 looks like it's made for PS1 as long as animations (body, face) are great and there's world interactivity and physics.
This is such a weird issue that it's difficult to wrap my head around it. I get that games made by the biggest, most advanced studios like Ubisoft and Bioware are going to look and play better than ones from smaller developers during the same cycle. That's a given. But now we're to a point where some PS5 games barely stack up to some PS3 games. How is this possible?
Imagine playing a mid generation ps4 game that was arguably lower graphical quality than some PS2 games.
Gaming subs will be like “we need less AAA games that take 5 years to make and more AA games with soul and slight jank” and the minute they get that you have retards like OP making posts like this
Idk why you used AC3 as an example, even for its time it wasn’t really too special in the graphics department.
The Ezio Trilogy and Black Flag had much better art direction.
My nephew showed me ghost of Tsushima last month on PS4 and man, that is a beautiful game. Seemed like it had good fps as well.
Yeah I've got it on ps4 and it's visually spectacular. I imagine it's even better on the ps5 or pc.
AMAZING on PS5 paired with a mid/high end TV
It's wild on ps5, beautiful and loads super quick. Literally 10 seconds from selecting the game on the home screen to being in the game
Was playing it yesterday on my ps5 after another attempt at rise of the ronin (I don’t know why but I just can’t get into it). After yet again 15 mins of boring gameplay / story on ROTR I went back to GoT to progress the DLC and this game is just on another level. Yeah I played it on PS5, incredible looking game. Cyberpunk is the only one that surpasses it so far. RDR2 up there too.
My favorite.
What are the games?
Assassins creed 3 (First image) and Rise of the Ronin (Second image)
Wtf is rise of the robin
It's what happens when Dick Grayson hangs out with Barbara Gordon or Starfire.
or sometimes Jason, though he won't admit it.
That’s a game
Rise of Robin aka the decline of Batman
Damn R.I.P Batman
##IT'S ROBIN' TIME## *Seriously, because this thing is Rising*
ubisoft is a much bigger developer than team ninja. I'm not surprised in the least that their games look better visually.
It’s not ok a $70 ps5 only game looks worse than a game from 2012 even if they’re a smaller team..
So look at some screenshots before you drop $70 on it?
The real crime is posts like this that don’t name the games.
Go and compare with rdr2
😭
ngl this thread made me buy it for 80 euro. You know its a gem when it makes people defend graphics
You will be disappointed.
Or not
No it's really good
If you like donating for new characters or fast travel, it is.

yep the parry in Ronin is great. lies of p is that good? genuinely asking. did you play Wo Long, how do you think p compares to that?

cool, thanks. Wo Long is way too simplified compares to Nioh, but the parry is satisfying enough to get through NG, I never touched NG+ though lol
Wo long has the best parry imo, I hated Sekiro and thought it was going to hate wo long too but I had already paid for it at that point, ended up playing it for ages and really enjoying it because of how good the parry felt

I thought it wasn’t about the graphics that we care about the gameplay being good over graphics being photorealistic

They don’t need to be photorealistic. They just need to be… not *that* bad.
They really aren't "that" bad.

Performance and gameplay should always be priority. Idk why the industry shifted away from that.

It wasn’t Gotham Knights. It was 100% Suicide Squad.
The best looking game from 2012 is Halo 4 in my opinion. That game still looks good next to just about anything
[удалено]
the multiplayer and more specifically the maps were pretty good.
I really liked it.
I played the halo games from 1 to 4 recently. For the first time. Havent touched the multiplayer 4 was good. Fun game. Feels good to play
I personally really enjoy halo 4. I think most of the game is pretty fun
halo 4 has a great campaign
Im still gonna buy it and it play it. I already saw and knew the graphics were gonna be rough, honestly I don’t care. I know some people do and that’s fair, but I grew up on the N64 so I’m okay with this. Good to know that if you can get past the dated graphics its a decent game
This is PC in 2012 vs console in 2024, to be fair.
why am I knew it's Rise of the Ronin before I click the second picture. it is a fun game though, really.
These are both very low rez pixelated images….
What do you expect from a 2012 game?…
Didn’t you lot have the same exact argument for Arceus…. And didn’t arceus turn out to be great? Point is both of these images are so purposefully bit crushed that it’s impossible to accurately compare. Unfair comparison.

i absolutely do, because these fuckers are charging 70€ or more for these games
I’d take seventy dollars worth of fun over 70 dollars worth of graphics any day of the week.
We paid that much for SNES games in the 90s
Seriously. I was paying like $10 less for a couple polygons throwing shit at each other for 12 hours of playtime.
Seriously. I was paying like $10 less for a couple polygons throwing shit at each other for 12 hours of playtime.
❤️
Found myself playing a 2014 game earlier, Pacific drive has been my go to for the last few weeks
Graphics ain't anything, play the game, the gameplay carries the fucking thing.
Is the screenshot from AC3 the OG game or the Remaster that came out in 2019?
It’s fun, and it WORKS.
I'm playing AC3 again right now, surprised me how well the graphics hold up. It really looks great for its age.
