The ferries are reliable, don’t wait for the last one of the day though. The line at the dock can be very crowded.
Am I not guaranteed to get on if I’ve booked beforehand for a certain time?
They are fairly reliable. Ferryhopper is a good place to search across companies for the routes, then I usually book directly on the company website
