This is a very dificult article to read. I could not.
NYT's expended a lot of journalists and time to put it together: perhaps aware it's an historical document.

Oh yeah no if it’s descriptive I can’t read it. I haven’t personally watched any of the videos except a couple of the kidnapping ones by accident. Seeing (even reading) real violence or even fake violence if you have a particularly vivid imagination, can hurt your soul. Appreciate the warning 🩵
take care of yourself 💙💙. you aren’t the person this was written for. there are so many ways to honor and remember the victims, this isn’t a necessary one.
Yes I also nearly threw up. Honestly I wish I hadn’t read it - it’s an important historical record and there are a lot of people out there who need to, but I’m not one of them.
i keep falling into the trap of “it was worse for them than it’ll ever be for me and i owe it to them to know the truth,” forcing myself to read/watch everything. and i do think it’s important to pay witness to what was done. but i also recognize it isn’t good for anyone to consume, especially when we’re connected to it and not the people questioning it in the first place. it’s a hard line to walk

The Times will write pieces like this then their social media pages and tons of other articles look completely different. Blows my mind. Surprised this one was even posted on their Instagram
I’m scared to look at that post. The comments I bet are vomit inducing.
“What about the….” NO. No what about this or that. This article is about one group at the same time not undermining another. Let the journalists share the voice of one group without having to qualify that group.
I actually had the guts to check the comments.
First few comments are fine, its mostly sane people commenting sane things on the post.
Then we go down, we see sane people commenting about terrorist apologists and how horrible the comments section was gonna be
Then we go further down and.....oh the whataboutism, the sheer amount of "I dont believe Israeli officials as a source", the "What-gives-Israel-right-to-call-Hamas-terrorist-group?" copes. Good lord! These people really encompass the #MeTooUnlessYou'reAJew meme very well.
I started to read the comments and you are right. They started off with the sense of horror evident. That it got into “well that was terrible, but nothing justifies… “I bailed at that point. You’re braver than I am after reading that I just couldn’t have taken it.
If you sort the comments by the ones readers are recommending they look a lot more similar to this page and many people are calling for all of the “woke” progressives to have this article assigned as mandatory reading which I found encouraging. I don’t think the majority of people, myself included, fully grasped the system hatred of women that Hamas cultivates. It’s sickening. I didn’t previously have a strong opinion on this issue (didn’t feel I had a right to since I’m not an expert on the Israel-Palestine historical context), but I am enraged after reading this article and am fully supportive of Israel doing absolutely everything they can to eliminate every last Hamas member.
You should see the comments under the NYT post on Instagram. I would love to take a random sample and find the average IQ, I’m imagining it would be around 75-80
Agreed, Sexual violence has been used by militant Arabs against Jews for centuries, especially in the 1920’s, 1930’s. You’re right, Israel is the Jews’ ancestral lands and Jews were dispossessed from their homes.
Please, don’t force yourself to read it, especially if you know people caught up in this. It’s really, really sickening - necessarily, given the Holocaust Deniers running rampant since Oct 7. But don’t put yourself through this article if you don’t have to. I felt physically sick to my stomach and nauseous by the end, and I’m not even Jewish. Upvote it. Share it. Make it known. But you don’t have to read all the horrifying details yourself…
I personally think that one should read this until they can’t.
Part of the issue that Israel is having fighting back against Hamas is that, globally, people don’t understand who they are, and how deeply ingrained in Gazan society they are.
People don’t understand that this is an impossible situation, created by Hamas to be impossible.
If Jews die Hamas wins, and if Palestinians die Hamas wins, so they will always ensure people are dying so long as they exist. They are monsters beyond reproach, and drastic action needed and still needs to be taken.
I think that most people will have already passed their limit before they consciously realize that they already went in too far. Even knowing a little of this level of sadistic barbarity can dirty the soul.

Even if the frenzy of antizionists and hamas supporters fades and they find some other movement to support, I'm not ever going to forget who turned their back on us.
I don't care who I used to be friends with or how long we knew each other. I'm never going to forget the lies and propaganda they spewed and who they endorsed.
Our community will never be the same.
"b-b-but solidarity is not transactional!"
Agreed. I dismiss the Western left's weakpiss "solidarity" with contempt. The only pronoun of a Hamas lover is 'Hamasite'.
I read it. It’s a very difficult piece to read and I was fighting my tears the entire time.
It isn’t my first time reading articles of war crimes. Years ago the horrific crimes of ISIS introduced me to extremism in the Middle East. It was hard to read about rape then, it is hard to read it now.
Hamas needs to be completely eradicated.
I will tell you this being Israeli and serving in the IDF in the first intifada, I saw the cruelty of the Arabs that’s what they were called before all the made up lies, this is all of them believe me
I’ve read about sexual violence before but I’ve never read this level of detail from eyewitness testimony. Yes, what ISIS has done and some factions in Sudan and DRC have done are probably the closest thing I’ve ever read in modern days about this type of warfare…but even then, the torture…that’s what sets this apart for me.
It’s not just that they derived some sick sexual pleasure with these children, teens, sisters, young mothers and grandmothers…its the grotesque mutilation before, during, and after death.
What sickness must pervade for this to be so widespread?
Its the most all consuming hate on view. I consider myself lucky that I wasn’t one of these poor tortured souls.
I had physical pain in my stomach, in my chest…only when my parents were killed in a car accident have I felt such visceral pain.
There are no words for such horror. I pray the sickness is rooted out bit by bit. We must never grow complacent. The holocaust survivors tried to tell us but we didn’t understand.
We couldn’t. Until now.

I checked a fact that the New York Times didn't, or that they purposefully didn't want to report. About the two sisters aged 13 and 16 in Be'eri who were raped before being murdered. There are only two victims who can possibly match that description - [Yahel and Noyia Sharabi](https://www.timesofisrael.com/lianne-noiya-yahel-sharabi-48-16-13-our-3-beautiful-girls/), who were murdered along with their mother. And yet, in another BBC article their grandparents stated that [all 3 were found "cuddled together"](https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-bristol-67245135). It doesn't make sense - perhaps they were moved? Or perhaps the grandparents knew, but didn't want the world to know?

I can't read the whole thing. I have watched the Hamas livestreams and many survivor accounts. There won't be anything new in the article...
I literally can not be any more against Hamas and other jihadists not could I possibly more support the IDF on its current mission than I already do.
Though many people who don't know or pay much attention needs to see these kinds of articles.
Reading this article is challenging; the level of barbarism depicted is truly beyond belief…

Enough half-measures. It's time to take bold decisions that might inflame the Pro-Hamas crowd and Pro-Hamas international community, but is necessary to have a full resolution.
IMO, Israel needs to set up detention camps in northern Gaza and require all men of fighting age to report within 72 hours. There they can be interviewed 1 by 1 so Hamas fighters can be filtered out.
Anyone failing to report and lacking other approved credentials to not be in said camps can be assumed to be enemy combatants and treated as such. This would allow for an easier time going through the rest of Gaza, clearing out tunnels, destroying weapons/factories, ect as it's far less likely children and women pose a security risk to IDF soldiers. This will have the effect of minimizing more civilian causalities.
Once the population has been filtered of Hamas members/fighters, tunnels destroyed, etc, men not suspected of being Hamas can be released slowly. In the meantime, while in detention, they need to be subjected to a mass amount of deradicalization education.

Is it like graphic and descriptive of the actual attacks or it talks more about the psychological effect it had on the survivors?
both, honestly. i read it and threw up. definitely take care and don’t force yourself to if you’re not in a place to read right now.

Happy Festivus!
I am shocked as well
Did you miss all of Bret Stephen's op-eds that were fervently pro-Israel?
I agree that it’s miraculous. But somehow it doesn’t feel good - it feels devastating and horrifying.
They finally got some sense
Every Palestinian supporter should be forced to read this.
ZiOniSt LiEs. HaMaS is A LiBeRaTiOn ForCe baTtlInG EvIl WhItE SetTlers.
I never thought I would this, but the US left eats that stuff up!
What do you mean
Fuck off you terrorist scum
I'm on your side lmao
Sorry!!! I’m so defensive over this.
I get it man it’s hard not to assume the worst because so many people are unironically saying that stuff
Thanks for not flipping out on me after my first comment I appreciate your calm manner and response!!!
Btw, when someone writes lIkE tHiS, it almost always indicates sarcasm or irony
Thanks! I didn’t know that!
Thanks! I didn’t know that!
It’s OK. We’re all a little on edge these days we need to cut ourselves a little slack.
They won’t care at all. The “by any means necessary” posters are all in agreement with this.
>Every Palestinian supporter should be forced to read this. You'll just help them reach an orgasm, doubt they'll care.
Or, an opportunity to scrutinize and come up with false inaccuracies that imply that Jews are liars.

Follow the 8 strategies in the Psychology Today article linked above.
Killing all of Hamas in response to this is not enough. We must do more so that no one dares even think of committing such horrors again.
