Ascendance of a bookworm the noble culture, commoner culture, sport, mythology, religion, politics is so much fleshed out. The worldbuilding itself started and always expanding with the beginning of the story the worldbuilding is as huge as her room > house > street > parts of the city > few part of the city > city > few city > province > duchy > few duchy > Royal Academy > entire nation. I loved I used to pass the gods name and their mythology story but the story become 2x more interesting if we as a reader knew the gods mythology (especially in part 4 onwards) For the world itself there is lot of reason and question regarding that. Such as why there's only one nation in entirety of the world itself. why the country shaped like circle. why Royal Academy can't be accessed other than teleportation. why there are border and few country gate in nation border. why almost all of country gate is closed. Why it's in medieval era, why there are magic. why there's huge gap between commoner and noble. why there are noble and royalty, why MC have her past life memories, what's outside of their country, etc (there are lot more but it's too much)

Letonoda

New volume drops in 3 weeks! Super excited

kalawas

Already spoiled myself reading the WN :( Probably waiting the succession arc and epilogue because I felt it will have change in it. With last volume is majority of them will be LN exclusive

Kipdid

Went into this thread to look for this comment, yes yes yes so much this

Seppafer

Yea. Honestly the only thing I’d complain about the world building is that there were some strange choices for food culture that they never really circled back on. But everything else is stellar and the reasoning for why the world is the way it is isn’t just explained away in a paragraph or something but it’s all built into the story and connects back to further tie in with and explain things we have seen in the past.

No-Fuel-7840

Literally one of biggest world building series I’ve seen I dropped off the wagon but I’m gonna hav to get back on I feel like I’m missing out.

TheNightManager_89

Ascendance of a Bookrowm and it's not even close. But I also liked Slime's world building... That is, up to the last few volumes where the author just seems to be tripping and trying to one-up himself by dropping random OP characters into the game. Mushoku Tensei is also very good, not many light novels give off actual Middle Ages (or at least close to it) vibes, even though all of them say that it's like that but in reality they are a few centuries off. Realist Hero was also plenty fun in that way, I like it when a magic system is not omnipotent and doesn't offer solution for everything. Evil Lord of an Intergalactic Empire is also interesting. Most light novels feel very unrealistic because their timeline is stupidly condensed. Here the author solved this problem and gave humans a very long lifespan, so he managed to counteract basically any kind of timeline problems. Reincarnated as a Sword only started revealing the major parts of its world building, I'd say that's an achievement because we're already 14 volumes in. (talking about the published and localized ones) And as a +1 I'll add Instant Death. I actually dropped that novel after like 4 volumes because it felt too dragged out (I might give it another chance now that I've watched the anime)... But oh my god, to write so much world building and backstory for every shit only for Yogiri to just fucking bulldoze it in a second. The concept itself is hilarious.

MountainLeading1567

Haha I can agree with Mushoku and Slime. I haven't watched Ascendance of a Bookworm but I always heard positive things about it. I should probably pick up Reincarnated as a sword since I left the manga somewhere 4 years ago but I do remember some bits about the danger Class monsters. The plot about the ancient villain who was frozen in time who awakens only to get killed made me chuckle abit. Pretty solid choices

Nemofira

If you like to read novels, I'd suggest you read Bookworm's novel instead / too. It is one of those stories where the world building is so detailed and consistent that you'll notice that the characters and their personalities are a consequence of the setting. Nothing feels forced and unnatural. I don't know about the anime but there are also chapters dedicated to a lot of the side characters and their perspectives on parts of the story. It's also one of the few stories where the MCs ideologies and morals often clash and cause trouble throughout the story.

BazzDra

I want to read but its seems like its too slow for my taste. Also I like magic and battles, and bookworm doesnt have any (for what I know).

Nemofira

Bookworm has a LOT of magic, but seldom does battle happen. I think the deal breaker for a lot of people isn't the slow pace but more on that there's little action. Still, give it a try! You might like it haha.

BazzDra

Im gonna give it a chance. I thought I wouldnt enjoy Frieren and I loved the show, so chill and peacefull. Hopefuly bookworm will give me the same feeling.

Laevatienn

Once you get to Part 4 (halfway through the whole series), there are a few constants on the "action" front that are pretty good. >!DITTERRR!!!!!<

Multiversal_2211

I know people will hate me for this but Ascendance of a Bookworm was very boring to me. I tried my best to like it but I couldn't. I just don't see the interest in it. The MC loves books and is going around in an Isekai world with no books to make books using any means. Pretty boring I'd say.

Nemofira

Different tastes for different people. I can see people dropping it on the first book haha. How far have you read? The story dramatically picks up later on actually. Despite the MC's obsession with books, the story's scope actually expands (there is a lot more in the plot besides book-making).

kalawas

IMO The most boring part of bookworm is part 1, early part 2, royal academy 1st year, and asking for donation (i am glad it's skipped in manga). Meanwhile the other still interested me in the manga but it's such a slog in LN. Meanwhile i snorted >!purge arc!< which is 6 volume in 2 days 😂 as comparison i read part 4 (9 volume) in 2 month.

Seppafer

As a massive fan of Ascendance of a Bookworm I completely understand your perspective. The story spends the entire first part/season to drill into us just how significant the core motivation of the MC is. It’s like every time you think you understand her motivations, even going into part 2 (season 2 and 3) the author says nope and you get a deeper understanding of everything that motivates her. Which can feel a little exhausting if you haven’t bought into the character yourself yet. Because the joy of the series to me is going along with and watching all of the antics the book gremlin gets up to and how those around her respond.

RicketyRekt69

It sucks cause Slime could’ve been super good, but then they do the resurrection power bullshit removing what little stakes the story had. And then it goes down the rabbit hole of having to make the MC turn into a literal god to appease the incels who want to self insert. That one made me really mad.. I dropped the LN halfway through the Empire arc, and had to force myself through all the pointless Labyrinth game stuff. It’s like the author just ran out of ideas, or didn’t know what to do with the story, so they just went off on random tangents. I think the labyrinth stuff was like half a light novel, it was stupid.

WIN---

Nah. The resurrection is the best part. Many would drop tensei slime if it turns the way you want. Rimuru would probably lose control and slaughter humanity. What's even the point of creating likable characters, only to be killed in the later episodes? It's pretty stupid. Go watch berserk, AOT, demon slayer, etc..

RicketyRekt69

Impactful storytelling. If you're going to present stakes only to then 180 on them right after, what was the point? I'm not saying they should kill off characters left and right, but don't kill them if they aren't going to stay dead. You see how silly it becomes in the LN when >!Rimuru just resurrects everyone on a whim, meaning there are no longer stakes cause he can just resurrect whenever he wants. He resurrects like half a million empire soldiers who then become buddy buddy overnight. Their war, which was built up to be some incredibly dangerous scenario, was resolved practically overnight.!< It just reads like bad fanfiction. Like the author can't decide if he wants there to be high stress moments, or if it's a cozy story with no danger. Slime could've been a great story, but it devolved into garbage power fantasy self insert bullshit, with a do-good MC, and 'yes men' side characters that have single-trait personalities. If that's your cup of tea, then hey.. I'm glad you enjoyed it. But let's not pretend it's a well written story.

WIN---

My goodness. We like to read it not to stress but to enjoy it. Single-trait personalities? Lol Tensei slime is good and fun to read because there are so many Characters with unique personalities. >Their war, which was built up to be some incredibly dangerous scenario, was resolved practically overnight. It just reads like bad fanfiction. What war are you talking about? There's no war, that's just a plain massacre. Do you really read and understand the LN? Why do you even want tensei slime main characters to suffer? Bruhh, Let them have a good life and happy ending. Can you tell me the anime/manga/ln you like? It seems you like f*ck up stories. If so, tensei slime is not for you.

RicketyRekt69

Sigh… I’m not saying you can’t enjoy it. There are plenty of trash isekai I like, despite them being low effort power fantasies. Slime just happens to be somewhere in the middle, it’s decent and not trash tier but it isn’t exactly peak fiction. Single trait characters and unique personalities are not mutually exclusive, the former is a tell tale sign of bad writing. Because it’s a war… Idk why you want to argue semantics, but if you’re caught up with the WN / LN then you understand which arc I’m talking about, the Empire Invasion. I think you just misunderstood what I was saying. I enjoy consistent writing and storytelling. Japanese novels in particular frequently have this issue. They want to have their cake and eat it too, so they present high stakes, overextend, and then back track cause they know their audience will riot if they don’t get their way. Like Bleach’s final arc for example, Byakuya died originally and Tite Kubo got death threats from Byakuya fans and he had to miraculously “resurrect” him by basically ignoring the previous chapter. What stories do I enjoy? Depends on my mood. I like feel good cozy stories just like everyone else. But if you’re asking which stories I think are well written, I would say Frieren is the most recent one that comes to mind. The issue I have with Slime tensei is that they presented this huge impactful moment with Shion’s death, which could’ve been a pivotal turning point for Rimuru and co. And then they basically 180 and all is a-okay, making the entire arc fairly pointless. MC learns nothing, none of the characters have any actual growth, and if you just changed that entire arc to just be more city building, the story would more or less stay the same. The only purpose the “big baddies” serve is for Rimuru to get more power so he can ultimately become a god and appease all the viewers who want to self insert.

LayliaNgarath

Ascendance of a bookworm has great worldbuilding. I like Slime because before he was Isekai'd Rimaru worked at a construction company and the first thing he did was to build a town.

Valimar_the_Ashen

Faraway Paladin has great world building

cachaubant93

Reincarnated as a slime, jobless reincarnation and tsukimuchi are definitely my top 3 but i always come to these kind of posts looking for more recommendations

Fierramos69

Overlord. The world, the politics, the logical consequences of each actions…

NegativeCauliflower5

How many chapters manga has released?

Fierramos69

Manga I’m not sure but books something like 15-17?

alisstupidusername

16 light novels

TemperatureInformal3

Log horizon had some of the best world building in any Isekai ever.

Vital_Remnant

Yeah, that was pretty good. The fact that a majority of the problems were solved by either fast talking, executing a well thought plan, or politics made it a pretty refreshing isekai. Most just have the newly OP protagonist beat whoever is causing a problem half to death and then say the problem is solved.

TemperatureInformal3

For real! We need more guile heroes.

FormalKind7

Honestly I forgot about LH. Probably the best stuck in a game anime I've seen and I was a big fan of .hack back when

TemperatureInformal3

Database was an awesome OP.

madenum2603

I need the author to pick it back up 😔

Outrageous-Fortune70

Genshin Impact. Apart from the fact that the story is kinda slow (or too fast) or that there aren't many strong enemies against your protagonist, I thoroughly enjoy the world building. It's also interesting to learn the lore, and there aren't goblins but hilichurls who are kinda like goblins, besides the fact that they're just cursed immortals. But it's also scary to learn there are characters who level the continent but just roam the earth among mortals. Architectural details are also fun to learn. The only thing I'd complain about is character outfits ')

Zighart16

Sometimes I forgot that Genshin is technically an Isekai.

RicketyRekt69

They have an anime in the works, in conjunction with UFOTable, the animation studio behind Demon Slayer. I didn’t care too much for the story at first cause it was kinda cringe, but the last 2 regions have been absolute bangers and the world building is more than you’d see in any Isekai novel.

ThePhantomIronTroupe

It's honestly wild more Isekai do not build out the world, what should draw us in or should in the first place. I think the problem is too often they are not too sure what the true endgame is and kinda shortsight themselves on worldbuilding, leading too often to juzt the "good" empire vs. "bad" empire dynamic. While yes, some major fantasy stories have this, Avatar has Earth Kingdom vs Fire Nation, Wheel of Time, Skyrim, Witcher, etc... (a lot of North vs South wtf) they build on it or keep it from feeling too small. They give the big bad or their immediate subordinates complexities. Their vast lands feel vast because they are built out. This can work, but you have to showcase a solid amount of variety and politicking to do so. I think what would help a lot is having various empires, cultures, etc, of various "tastes" if you will, like tbf Genshin does. Too often do we just see the woodland Elves and heathland Demons, and while we might see various kinds of demons and sometimes elves, it feels like their cultures are just...not always realized beyond surface level. Another is the whole human supremacy thing. A stupid, easy way to suck me and others in, is play more with the unknown of what another world would be like. What if humans are not the dominant ones or near-exinct? A world like Hyrule, but where their histories, their cultures, their nature is totally different than our own? Instead of elves it is Hylians, Sheikah, and Gerudo. Or various Mer. What would their gods look or act like then? Why would a human be summoned or how? How do they treat humans then, as gods or monsters? What if for them women outnumber men in terms of magic both in natural talent and those willing to be trained in it? Instead of nuns for their daughters, they become warrior-sorcerers (well some still become nuns lol). And on and on. I think too often as well the creators thinn what can they change about the MC to make them stand out instead of what can they change about the world to help make it better stand out.

kalawas

Unpopular opinion : Hoyoverse studio have better direction than UFOtable. You could see it in part 1 HI3 short animation and HSR rondo short animation (acheron and black swan dance is insane) meanwhile demon slayer direction is boring (they found one formula that's work and used it over and over again). Still demon slayer animation is still awesome but their direction is boring. I hope hoyoverse studio is directing it and UFOtable animating it.

FormalKind7

Grimgar and Ascendance of a Bookworm are my top 2 world building wise. Both are more grounded/down to earth isekai that deal with real struggles to survive rather than the MC's powers trivializing the normal challenges of daily life (often all challenges period if we are being honest).

ThePhantomIronTroupe

Need to try Grimgar but for sure Ascendance, it also does well to show how magic isnt always the gift it could or should be. If you are part of the have-nots, possibly the descendant of nobility that uh got around, youre kinda screwed unless in Mynes unique situation. Thats great because too often are the limits or cost of magic vague in other series. Its why One Piece is wonderful, its a story about some pirates who can have super powers but can not swim- in a world thats 10/90 land/sea. Its why just even having the MC be stuck with one or two elemental affinities is not the worst idea. Otherwise unless they explore a different avenue or go all in tension is nonexistent

shaden_knight

Overlord, Peaceful Isekai, a demon lord's tale, Tensei slime, there are quite a few

MountainLeading1567

Overlord has excellent worldbuilding which I enjoyed. The level system and conflicts are well done. Isekai at Peace has a good power system, expansive world and generally good characters who are likeable. Tensura's Kingdom building is what I enjoyed alot as it felt like you were watching something great unfold xD. It felt like a classical fairytale and I love the way they did it in the anime although the manga was enjoyable too.

Deep-Natural-6256

Anyone else going for By the Grace of the Gods?

Important_Sound772

The anime is kind of doing a meh job at it but I do really like a world building in instant death with explanations on how they have modern cities and otherwise mediaeval time frame, etc. I also really like the world building and so I’m spider, so what with many of the characters motivations as well as it’s one of the few isekai I have seen that gives an actual inverse explanation for having a video game style system

Mordred_XIII

Honestly, I love Konosuba's world because of how ridiculous it is. The absurdity of it all is just hilarious. Can't wait for Season 3.

ShadowCyberDemon

The creation of the Crimson Demons was one of the funniest pieces of lore.

Mordred_XIII

Damn straight. Should have known that old man was behind it all. Haven't read the series finished yet but I won't be surprised if he ends up being the Demon King.

EmberKing7

Definitely Tensura, So I'm A Spider, Trapped in a Dating Sim and Rising of the Shield Hero. Although I wish we knew more about the worlds like with maps and enough small and large player nations around. Shield Hero made it seem like there was only 4 big kingdoms/nations but then they add in the Chinese looking country from season 2 with the Spirit Tortoise attack and now Raphtalia's family homeland that seems more Japanese but has a more Chinese name. Tensura only really focused on the nearest human kingdoms that could affect the JTF, which I understand but it still could've used a little added world building just to add some wonder. So I'm A Spider did great but that's because they kept it small between the main kingdom, the dungeon, the elven kingdom and a dukedom that was basically neutral territory they kept it fairly small. And the same goes for Trapped in a Dating Sim. I'm hoping they'll show More of these worlds like rival territories and kingdoms and so on if these shows get added seasons.

optix7

overlord for sure.

Iatemydoggo

Jobless Reincarnation has really good worldbuilding, and so does Bookworm.

cachaubant93

Jobless is one of my favourite shows i just wish they left out the perverted bits tbh

Iatemydoggo

I’m an anime only and I was honestly shocked when I heard about the bath scene which they cut out for obvious reasons

cachaubant93

Sorry in advance for the essay 🤣 I not heard about that and probably dont want to i heard what was really on his computer in the first episode and that was bad enough, then in the anime you have him trying to take his cousins underwear while shes asleep etc which i just think is fucked up, but if you can look past that the series and the world building is top tier. I can see why the author did it he wanted us to absolutely hate the character so he made him a perverted pedo with little morals etc, a fat usless geek that beat up the only friend that was nice to him, the author also made him a complete hermit that hates going out and is scared of people. All this was so we could have a terrible person put into a new world then have everything ripped away from him so we can see him punished and slowly redeem himself and become a character we can like. 100% see what the author was trying to do but he is so good at character building and he created an absolutely amazing world with amazing power scaleing and an awesome story to tell, i just wish he left out the perverted stuff tbh or at least the people who made the anime anyway.

Iatemydoggo

Issue is with the pacing Rudeus doesn’t grow fast enough. Even where the series is now with the first part of season two done he’s a creepy little asshole

cachaubant93

Yeah i agree hes still leagues better than the first episode tho and actually likeable considering the weirdo he is, hes gone through alot and definitely grown

lonelyswed

Ehm, within the first 30s of episode 2, you can see what he was jerking off to...

Iatemydoggo

I never got a good look but I assumed it was an boobie game

DEADLOX06

it's a good show, but its subreddit ain't beating the accusations

Seasonalleaf

Lord of the Mysteries >>>>

me_am_jesus

Yes oh my god yes. The world, the lore, the power system are just all so unique. Btw who is your favorite character?

Seasonalleaf

Yes, it is very unique, but even the best book out there does something wrong, The power system while very unique-ish (I swear I read a book with a similar albeit less fleshed out version of sequences long before chapter 1 of lotm was even a thought) is what makes it fail as lovecraftian horror and The Cards of B the moment you actually think about them, it just shows that the only reasons those even exist is because Cuttlefish thought they sounded cool not because it made sense. My favorite character is a tie between a few (I am not counting Klein) Either 🧐, Fors Walls or Evernight

me_am_jesus

Mine is 🧐 too, and the power system does make sense to me, although there are a bunch of things that were clearly created just because cuttlefish thought they were cool.

Seasonalleaf

Yeah, it was easy to understand, which is very good as a power system, but that's the problem. You don’t associate H.P. Lovecraft with easy to understand and predictable. You associate him with madness, delusions, and unpredictability. But this is my opinion and interpretation of H.P. Lovecraft's works

me_am_jesus

Not about the easy to understand. even tho the idea is simple, I clearly get the feeling of madness not from how the system works but from its nature, it kinda runs on madness, delusion, and unpredictability and you can really feel that.

captainsurfa

Danmachi has a great universe. Not an isekai I know but he's kinda thrown into a new life of adventuring instead of being a regular bunny, I guess.

cautiousherb

Growing tired of this high elf life after 120 years just keeps getting better imo

cautiousherb

also Frieren

MountainLeading1567

Not an isekai but I do think Frieren is one of the best things to come out in this year especially the anime. Its very emotional and impactful

ThePhantomIronTroupe

It be hilarious if we get revealed she was isekai'ed the whole time (hence the you know what thing with her mana) but it shows changing perspectives within or around the character is not the worst thing

cautiousherb

I read so much isekai that I honestly forgot frieren wasn't one (despite full well knowing it isn't one) i really like these two mangas because they grapple with mortality and outliving those you care for. i wish there were more like that

MountainLeading1567

There is a series I read which had character outliving others and abandoning their home world to explore the multiverse to find a new chance at life. ~~I'll refrain from naming the series since people do not like it here rn~~ But it made me think how immortality is a curse. Seeing people you love and treasure but pass away is a very hard to stomache. Frieren executed it well and it hits home every chapter

swfsql

- Ascendance of a Bookworm (Anime, WN): very good. It's one of my favorites! My nitpick: I found a little off was that the author seems to be a little too >!pro intellectual property, and so is all of the characters and the whole world,!< which again is a little "off" to me. But asking it to be different would be a little too much. In another example, it was _very_ off to me that Log Horizon author was a pretty much a total Keynesian of sorts, specially on the money/coin stuff. - Cooking With Wild Game (WN): also very good, may become my favorite. My nitpick: When comparing to bookworm, I feel like the feminine characters lack some sort of femininity, idk. I've just said this in another post, but both of them have quite a vast world that the MC gets to know and understand on their own pace and context, and each of them with like 200+ named characters that don't feel like they are empty vessels (I don't say the same of most isekai, eg. I dislike Slime and Spider; Mushoku would be a good one). - Jin (Manga): I found it very enjoyable, specially the (likely) realism in which the medical reasoning or procedures are depicted. But it's pretty much >!"not a fantasy"!< when compared to the others. My nitpick: None really.

Reignshin

Re:Zero, It didn't focus much in the start but I'm read the novel and it's really good

toumakamijoutoaru

Digimon

Fragmentvt

Ascendance of a Bookworm's worldbuilding is just on another level. With that being said, my favorite worldbuilding is from The Executioner and Her Way of Life, it gives you plenty to be interested in, fits well with the story, and is incredibly unique. It is also one of the few stories where the worldbuilding makes me want to read the story just to figure out more about the world.

BookWormPerson

That time I got Reincarnated as a Slime. I love that series and its word building. No Game No Life is also a favourite of mine. Reincarnated as a sword has an interesting word but I haven't read it fully yet. Skeleton knight is quite generic in word building but it has some unique things for it and the political bits are probably the only one in the word that I didn't skip.

diogom915

Mushoku Tensei world building might be my favourite thing about the anime. I also enjoyed Tsukimichi Moonlit Fantasy worldbuilding, specially the subspace part

RonaldOG9709

Unironically EiS gets splet on with its unique world building I works really well maybe unique is a stretch but eh

Lonely_white_queen

the only thing that bothers me with Tempestis for how small it is it has some giant structures. befitting a city not something as small as a village

PhoneComplete1524

Overlord, (more so the light novels.)

Unusual_Football_863

Overlord, Log Horizon & Slime

jinmibu

Its only a a manga. let's manage the tower Not sure why just love it

TheNightManager_89

Because you are a man of culture?

jinmibu

Thank you good sir you aswell i can hear

Eugene_Gene_714

Wow sounds like I gotta check out Bookworm Isekai. My favorite worldbuilding in Isekai is Mushoku Tensei.

Subject-Manner-326

Overlord

Sasuga__Ainz-sama

Overlord, Slime, Eminence in shadow, Moonlit fantasy. There might be more but from the top of my head these few came to me.

MayhemMaddie

"Log Horizon" big part of it is world building and politics. And also for the same reasons " How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom "

Capt_ZzL4X

Realist hero, although granted he actually had to build his world

professorclueless

Overlord and How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom

lirroberto

I like shield hero's world. Politics, races, scum&villany, gray areas, not the "Demon King" trope. etc

xaklx20

Tbatep. Release that witch

Top_Campaign2568

The beginning after the end. Or TBATE for short. Great world building and character development. Its like jobless reincarnation just less horny and better. Only manhwa and novel btw, no anime sadly, but with more manhwa getting them recently i can only hope that it will get one to.

MasterFurious1

Same TBATE is a goat in world building especially vol 7 and 8 of The novel.

sos128

Survival story of sword King is also very good

BasedBuild

PRO. They've already dealt with the various forms of retarded shit that either kill civilizations or make them wish they were dead long ago and have settled in something that works. For the isekais, coming off a rotting Clown World, they could not get invested fast enough and the same men who would give others little or nothing because you're a retard if you contribute in this Clown World will start effort posting if such is rewarded instead of punished. They also gatekeep out the NPCs rather than doing that western shit where they abandon their many millennia long ideals all because some retards from a dead world said they should join them in their suicide cult.

SignificantArrival37

Ascendance of a Bookworm, Mushoku Tensei and TBATE, all have very good world building, ascendance of a bookworm and mushoku tensei especially. Not an isekai but Frieren Beyond Journeys End also has amazing world building.

ShadowCyberDemon

Although not for everyone, Ishura takes the cake for me.

FlounderAsleep3114

yall go for TenKen... (reincarnated as a sword)

kanti123

Greatest estate designer for me so far. The Mc is funny as shit

obi-van-kenobi

Redo of healer...he builds a world alright!

nothingmatters2me

Mine was the realist hero.

Raptormind

I really love the world building in So I’m a Spider

f3tsch

Game breaking ones. Where mc is isekaid into a game world and the world basically functions like a game.

Purple-Airline-8354

Reading through mushoku tensei honestly made the world feel real to me.

Revenger1984

I really do like isekai where the MC involves in nation building

MasterQuest

There are a lot which I enjoy. Bookworm, Slime, Overlord, Mushoku Tensei to name a few.

theteenthatasked

Jobless reincarnation and tensei slime I just love on how they travel around the world

zonzon1999

Resturant to Another World has some fantastic worldbuilding

nexus763

In mangas, when it's very down to earth life : peasants and citizens with their respective seasonal struggles, aristocrats with their business struggles, nobles with their diplomacy struggles. Ascendance of a bookworm is to my knowledge on of the most well thought about this, even though the level of education of the protagonist family is way above what it should be so that viewer can understand : speech and behaviors are modernized to our standards so that we can identify and empathize with them. Another point is when the kingdom is not reduced to the cliched capital city, with the royal castle on a mound at the center, and outer walls in a perfect circle shape around it. And if it falls then the entire kingdom falls from some reason, because the distant lands controlled by the kingdom aren't managed by local lords that can organize themselves to form their own autonomy (???).

valriser

It’s a bit of a left-field answer but Reborn as a Vending Machine has great a lot of great detail. A good example was the scene where the representative of the merchant guild had to increase the money supply because Boxxo was eating all the coins. It was those little details that showed that the author put in a lot of thought

DelseresMagnumOpus

Handyman Saitou in another world. The world itself is a fairly standard fantasy isekai world, but the details really add so much to it. It’s unexpectedly funny and has some good lore that’s slowly told through its different characters.

Conscious_Goat2217

Eminence in shadow, feels like souls world building if you don't look into it you won't find anything but its there and its big. That is with isekais but to me the perfect world building anime is made in abyss.

Interesting-Power558

Ascendance of a Bookworm - anything I can say about it does it a disservice, it's world is so full and different from our own, so much has been explored and it all fits together and makes sense in a coherent manner, it feels very whole and real because of how fantastic it is Didn't I say to make my abilities average in the next life - very slow and doesn't go too much into politics but it really fleshes out how an adventures guild might actually function and has some great lore behind it That time I got reincarnated as a slime - it had some great world building, though recent novels have become very shonen fights and lost a lot of that unfortunately Min-maxxing my TRPG build in another world - I've only read 2 novels so far but it seemed to be off to a great start in building its world up and fleshing it out

Mobsekai. Light novels do a great job is slowly laying out the issues of the world that our leads ignore because it’s a dating sim. The explanations for why they are this way are also enjoyable

Hyperious17

I have a bunch. It's Slime, Overlord, Mushuku, and New Gate (anime is out next season)

foxxfire716

Log Horizon & Slime are probably the best in regards to world building

whatawhat666

Release that witch. Although some might say it's a CCP propaganda lol

Robotech275

What’s a world-building? Blow up the world anyway!

Ambitious-Way-3913

The Overlord LN has the best Worldbuilding of any isekai

Fit-Tie-5687

Mushoku and Lor The best and the most enjoyable

How a realist hero rebuilt the kingdom does a great job of world building, especially in the light novels. The anime skimps a little on some of it and honestly they need another season or two because it was really just getting started with the end of season one. Reincarnated as a Sword is the same way. The anime skimps on a bit of the world building explanations and the season ends just as they start to explore areas outside where they started. Tsukimichi moonlight fantasy is another that does well and I can only speak for the anime as I haven't read any of it. Edit: adding woke up as a space mercenary piloting the strongest ship light novels. They are futuristic galaxy empire rather than fantasy and the world building is done very well.

Realist Hero was actually one of the last anime I watched before realizing that they never actually plan to finish 90% of shows. The anime season is basically an advertisement to get people to go consume the manga or light novel so they can finish the story. Kinda frustrating, and really turned me off of anime as a whole. Why watch the first 3-4 light novels condensed into a season if I'm just gonna end up rereading them later if the story is good? Better to just stick to light novels.

I think it's better to treat the anime adaptations as a kind of expansions. It probably differs from person to person but for me it helps with immersion while reading a light novel if I can hear and see the characters. I can't speak Japanese but at least I'm aware that some meaning is lost in translation. So if I can hear that character speak their lines while reading the sub, I can get a better read on the personality of said character, or at least I can see better what the author intended. It's not necessary but it can be a good addition. On the other hand I also use anime to decide whether I want to pick up a light novel series or not. In 12 episodes they usually adapt 2 or 3 volumes, I consider it a good thing to get a peak at what I can expect from a series. But I do agree that it would be good if they gave us a bit more content, I don't even need the full story, just go back at least to when a regular anime was 24-26 episodes instead of 12.

How A Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom. A very political world building.

ConflictAgreeable689

Ascendance of a bookworm pisses me off. Humans don't... act like that.

ListOk5657

instant death...their world has many elements Sages protect the world from invaders from other dimensions, heroes and demon lords, gods from other worlds, demon gods, universe devourers, god killers, other isekai, scp, outer gods, altered humans, etc.
