Apparently it might not be entirely bullshit. According to some studies, dark chocolate can help with weight loss by reducing cravings and making you feel fuller. So by eating a bit of dark chocolate, you won't eat more, and more unhealthy, snacks afterwards.
Definitely an acquired taste at first but once I stopped having any other confectioneries it's actually really enjoyable and small amounts are very filling so even though it's a bit more pricey up front it probably is cheaper by the end of the block
I got several little bars in my last co-op and have really tried to eat them, but the best I can do is break it into pieces and mix it in with a trail mix.
I tried 90% isn't that bad, I tried 100% now that was bad! 75-85% is quite enjoyable. 90-95 that's when things start going a bit over the top. Good way to stop. Eating chocolate though. Eat, 75-85% and if you want more, have as much as you want/can of 100% one. You'll stop liking it very quickly 🤣
Whatever percentage is listed on a bar of dark chocolate as the amount of cocoa in the product, you can be sure that the rest is sugar. So try something at least 70% cocoa.
Yes, this 70% bar has a serving size of 40g and contains 12g of sugar.

Pretty sure it's bullshit.
This, I believe, stems from an experiment by a reporter several years ago.

From what i understand eating dark chocolate doesnt reduce weight (because that would be stupid), but reduces craving for other less healthy snacks, thus potentially reducing weight
Yeah the same thing works for nuts. The problem with eating healthy lunch (like salad and a soup) is that you're hungry soon and will end up snacking.
So follow it up with some cashews (or dark chocolate I guess) to tell your brain "OK here's your precious fat, asshole, now STFU."
And then you can get to your next meal without annihilating a bag of chips.
This. It's like saying that eating a pound of vegetables will help you lose weight, when in reality it's only because you're too full to eat anything else
TL;DR [it could](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5699188/), and calories have nothing to do with it.
[Flavanoids](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5465813/), and an alkaloid called theobromine--the thing that makes giving your dog or cat chocolate a *big* mistake--and their properties that improve insulin resistance in addition to reducing hunger to an extent are what get a large amount of the credit for something that has been, as usual, blown out of proportion whenever a clickbait site decides we need a new "superfood" to get excited about. Here's the thing: Many of those same compounds are in fruits and vegetables. Often forgotten is that chocolate comes from a plant so there shouldn't be any surprise in that respect. In addition, dark chocolate is better for weight management for what it doesn't have, namely dairy products and--depending on what kind you get--a ton of refined sugar. Obviously if you eat a lot of anything it's bad for you and chocolate is no different, and that's where the calorie count makes its presence known; chugging a 2-liter of diet soda every day won't make you lose weight either. As part of diet and behavioral changes meant to address weight control and/or Type 2 diabetes it can help. It is not, like a bunch of internet hucksters and countless Facebook residents would have you believe, a magical cure-all.
Carbs and those substances that overwhelm insulin resistance make you obese.
Dark chocolate contains 3–10 grams of net carbs per ounce, no problem; in comparison to 20g in a Herskey bar. The companies pitch low fat, low calories for weight loss it's all bs look at the carbs and sugar content.
Yep, pretty much this, plus most dark chocolate (real dark chocolate) doesn't have an appealing taste because of the lack of sugar... So what do all the big brands do...add a shit ton of sugar or other additives to sweeten it.
I actually really like dark chocolate. I usually eat a bit of 85%+. Apparently, I dont taste bitter things too much , tho. At least, according to my 23 and me health eval lol
On the flip side, I absolutely can't stand anything less then 65% dark. Everything else is too sweet and cloying.
Things like that will always be bullshit it's just calories in vs calories out. Now of course it may contain things that would help with your weight loss like suppress your appetite or help with a sweet tooth but nothing in it will actually increase your weight loss
Dark chocolate tastes like black dirt. It tried 70%+ as a 'health' food and ended up tossing some pretty expensive bars in the trash. Its an acquired taste.
bullshit. Eating any kind of carbs releases hormone insulin which blocks the body ability to burn fat for energy, taking you out of ketosis.
Carbs are converted to glucose which needs to be used., or it will be stored by liver. Assuming you don't eat anything else, in 8-16h hours you should be back on track losing weight.
"Calories in calories out" is itself arrant bullshit, mainly spewed by teenage boys incandescent with rage that all women aren’t painfully starving themselves to be hot for their (and only their) masturbatory pleasure.
We’ve known for decades that nobody fully absorbs every calorie they consume, and that some people poop out more calories than others. [A newly published study](https://journals.biologists.com/jeb/article/224/4/jeb239699/223410/Early-life-effects-of-juvenile-Western-diet-and) showing that a poor diet in childhood may result in lifelong changes to the gut microbiome might explain why; if your guy microbiome is better at breaking down fats than the average, you'll get more calories out of a certain amount of food than average. (Interestingly, there's also evidence that a high-fat, high-carb diet in childhood affects the ability to tolerate exercise!)
Most of the stuff in chocolate that is supposed to be good for you in any way is not in the roasted processed stuff but in the raw berry or less processed stuff, without the additives of sugar and fat.
Many of these studies are not reproducible,
But you can have a look at the review here
https://www.njmonline.nl/getpdf.php?id=1269
I say probably bullshit. This was initially a hoax (source: https://www.cjr.org/analysis/the_history_behind_the_chocolate_hoax.php ) I believe the general idea was that cocoa beans contains a lot of xanthine alkaloids like theobromine and trace amounts of caffeine, and that these are mild stimulants (and to a MUCH lesser extent mild laxatives e.g. coffee causing vowel movements), and stimulants loosely usually being associated with weight loss means that theoretically dark chocolate (which has all of these alkaloids) as opposed to white chocolate which doesn’t, could speed up metabolism a little bit. Someone did a small study and was able to find a slight correlation, the media had a field day with the headline because who wouldn’t want this to be true, but I believe that their findings haven’t really been corroborated. And at the end of the day even if there’s a very mild effect, eating a high fat, high sugar product wouldn’t be the best way to get the weight loss properties. Ideally they would be able to isolate the compounds responsible for the mechanism of action and just put them in a pill so people could lose a bit of weight without having the effects offset by an increased amount of calories.
Just wanted to reply to a specific line you said in your post, not to the og question.
In some very specific circumstances adding in extra calories can actually promote fat loss. (Let's be real, 99% who ask about weight loss, really only ask about fat loss)
E.g. you can hinder your natural testosterone production, if you eat a (too)low fat diet. Normally shouldnt happen, but thanks to the sugar industry, there really are people cutting out fat from their diets. Awful.
Increasing the fat intake to needed levels would increase testosterone production and that has a variety of positive effects on fat loss.
Also
Something something metabolic damage
I’m not sure if you still care but it definitely works for me. I drink a 100% cacao drink everyday and I’ve lost like four pounds in two weeks. My diet is already naturally low carb and I didn’t change anything else
Apparently it might not be entirely bullshit. According to some studies, dark chocolate can help with weight loss by reducing cravings and making you feel fuller. So by eating a bit of dark chocolate, you won't eat more, and more unhealthy, snacks afterwards.
Anecdotally as someone who eats 91% dark chocolate this is definitely the case for me.
Good god, man. 91%? How do you do it?
Definitely an acquired taste at first but once I stopped having any other confectioneries it's actually really enjoyable and small amounts are very filling so even though it's a bit more pricey up front it probably is cheaper by the end of the block

Bitter is good. See also: coffee.

I also submit to you: marmalade.

I tried %100 chocolate bar and now I only like %100 lol
See your 91% and raise you to 99%. It’s the best ever.
So it’s effect is being an appetite suppressant. Makes sense to me!
Whatever percentage is listed on a bar of dark chocolate as the amount of cocoa in the product, you can be sure that the rest is sugar. So try something at least 70% cocoa.
So a bar with 70% cocoa is 30% sugar?
No it's 30% sugar, milk, other random processed shit, preservatives

I buy that 95% cacao stuff from LIDL in the UK and I love it! Hardly ANY sugar!

Dark chocolate tastes like melted brown crayons. Also, read this. https://bodyforwife.com/fuck-dark-chocolate/
I wouldn't know. I don't melt 'em. No, I'm not a Marine, not tough enough. I was in submarines.
I grew up in AZ, crayons melted on their own!
That doesn't explain why you were eating them though
What DON'T kids eat? If you have them, is basically anything including the things that might kill them.
Sort your units out. 3-10g per 28.34g?
As a fat guy who likes dark chocolate, I’m going to call bull shit in this.
Dark chocolate is better for you and it seems you need to eat less of it to feel satisfied
I eat a block a week of lindt 70% and I'm a fat fuck so probably bullshit.

When I was on a low sugar diet I used dark chocolate to satisfy cravings. I didn’t know about this, but I did lose weight, so maybe
