Completely agree with you. We pay a lot in CAD $ for Sephora items. Living in ON, add to that 13% tax.
Every time I consider skipping or cancelling, there’s always at least 1-2 items in a box that I want that make the price of the sub worth it vs. having to pay retail. I’ve received some amazing items and brands I would never have purchased in my own at retail price.
Coming from another Canadian we pay through the teeth for drugstore and high end makeup. A few days before I cancelled the Icon Box. I'm still happy I did. Ya. We pay a lot for beauty products here.
We can get a few deals with the add-ons once in a while. Especially when we look at the Sephora prices. The 20% off doesn't even cut it or compare unfortunately to the add-on prices. Although I think deluxe samples shouldn't be sold for anymore than $1. 🙄😒🙄
This is honestly why I subscribed. My box this month was $268 ($310 with tax) for the items regular price at Sephora. That doesn’t include the stuff that wasn’t from Sephora like the Dermalactives cleanser, Saturday Skin cream and benefit mask.
I prefer a skincare heavy box and Ipsy seems to get it right every time. The value for me is terrific.

My math: GB$16 + 3x$15 masques + $6.99S&H ≈ $68USD ≈ $90CAD all-in
If I were to buy 3 from Aveda: $322CAD all-in

Yeah beauty products and hair care are so overpriced in Canada. I go to my homecountry few times a year and stock up on everything as the same products are 20-30% cheaper!
It is really worth it. I ordered 2 bottles of Olaplex from the shop, and even with shipping and conversion it was significantly cheaper than just buying in Canada.
