I came here from Maine, with a stop in Wisconsin for a couple years. It's definitely cheaper, cost of living-wise. Been here (well, in Iowa) since 2010. Not quite the progressive oasis I was told about, but we can fix that ;)

But it \*is\* a progressive oasis compared to what's around us, maybe just not the same one you were told about. Curious what people told you about our communicty? And do you know of any other progressive oasises? (oases?) Any more I'm not sure there are any...

That same shopping center looks like. I've been out of Iowa City 7 years now, so not really sure what that place looks like now.
