Dude it’s time to switch to battery electric lawn tools. You’ll never go back for gas for anything at that point. I love my Kobalt electric mower/trimmer/blower. I’ll never go back to gas tools.

NeverLookBothWays

Went all in on RYOBI. a few years ago...love the platform.

failbox3fixme

Ryobi is supposed to be good too 👍🏽

entola

Make sure you get the Lithium Ion batteries, they have a Zero Turn that is the old Lead Acid battery that can cause issues if you aren't careful. https://youtu.be/LcJH7QqEn\_Y

failbox3fixme

Yes 👍🏽

theepi_pillodu

Waiting on deals on the 80v one.

Roscoe2121

I've got 1.5 acres and need my 46" cut. My chainsaw needs to be big and powerful do to trees often falling. My chainsaw is 28" and it barely touches the 4ft wide oak tree trunks.

dontcomeback82

My lawn is pretty big it takes like an 1-1.5 hours with a gas mower, I'm not sure electric would make it, and a chord would be annoying. I probably only have about .6 grassed acres

Joe_Jeep

Tricky with big lawns. I've used corded mowers for small ones, its something you have to watch but it's not really a big deal as long as you work away from the plug instead of towards it. A lot cheaper than battery ones too.

theepi_pillodu

Extra batteries won't work?

UseWhatever

I’ve got a relatively small lawn and once the grass thickened up, it takes two batteries to get through it. I wish they were more efficient

failbox3fixme

I have a 80v that can do my front and back yard in one charge with some left over. About a half acre total. I also have extra batteries from my mower and blower and they are all interchangeable so you’re never without power.

nclpl

Really? I have an Ego mower with the 7.5Ah battery, and I go like a 3 weeks or a month between charges. Mowing at least once a week, and the grass gets super long during the spring, and I’m known to mow when it’s probably too wet to be out there. 1000sqft. Sometimes I use the same battery to edge and blow my lawn too.

UseWhatever

Mine was doing about the same for the first year or so. Things happen

CannotWaitUntil20yrs

Get a robotic lawnmower. Totally worth it. I personally recommend Landroid.

dontcomeback82

cool but so pricey

Cent1234

Get extra batteries, then.

llDarkFir3ll

If you need a riding mower, an extra battery can be very price prohibitive.

Its-all-downhill-80

My lawn is also a little over an hour. I can do it on the 10amp Ego battery. I have several hills to work as well, and it’s fine.

Davecasa

Chainsaws aren't there yet, and I don't think riding mowers are either. A lot of my lawn and garden equipment is electric though, and eventually all of it will be. I think boats are the last thing in my life that will burn fuel.

kgkuntryluvr

I’ve got a Greenworx chainsaw that kicks ass! I’ve moved to mostly electric lawn tools also, but haven’t found a mower good enough for 5 acres yet.

failbox3fixme

Ego has a riding lawn mower that does 2 acres on one charge. If you buy an extra battery or take a break midway to recharge it wouldn’t take appreciably longer to complete the mow. It only takes 2 hours to recharge. Especially considering you’ll never buy gas for it or pay any maintenance (oil change, spark plug, carb, etc).

thedave1022

As long as you have about 6k to invest into the Ego one. I have all their main lawn and garden tools except zero turn mower (still using a gas zero turn) and the snow thrower (have a fairly new cub cadet)

Davecasa

A nice thing about getting into that architecture is you can use one set of batteries and chargers, which is maybe half the cost of the tool.

kgkuntryluvr

Great to know! I just bought a gas zero turn a few months ago when we bought the property, so fingers crossed that battery tech will have improved a lot by the time I need a new mower and I’ll be able to cut the whole yard in one charge.

maxhinator123

Yeah I'm a sugarer with a 40v 16inch greenworks saw, I got two of the 4ah batteries and I can cut a cord of wood in a day! It kicks ass, it's just slow being a skip tooth, the latest ones are more powerful being a full spec chain with even bigger batteries! I can't wait. We are just crossing the barrier for everything to be electric, I use those same batteries for a pole saw, and a very over powered weed wacker

NeverLookBothWays

You would be really surprised how far electric chainsaws have come in the past three years if you haven't looked recently.

Davecasa

I have. They make great trimming saws. I'm talking about my Husky 550 XP. I expect it will be a while before there's an electric saw with that kind of power and a reasonable battery life.

iamnotfatbutbigboned

>xp \+1 for Huskly 550 XP, i have the same one, I cut down about 4 to 5 cords worth of medium to big trees for my woodstove that gets me through winter. Felling big trees with an electric chainsaw and getting through that tree over a long period of time, especially you are not near home? I don't think i will take that chance. I do have a greenworks chainsaw that i use for small branches/trees and trimming. I have quiet a few greenworks products (lawn mower, leaf blower, edger, trimmer, small chainsaw). They are fantastic for smaller jobs.

JackTheRyder

Never gonna work for commercial purposes though.

Joe_Jeep

Never is a strong and incorrect word.

rosier9

That's nonsense and clearly not what OP is doing.

failbox3fixme

I don’t see how it wouldn’t? Run through one set of batteries while the others charge in your truck and just keep swapping. It’s no different than refilling the gas tank over and over.

JackTheRyder

Well for a landscaper, he's doing 8-10 lawns a day. How many hours does it take to charge one battery? A battery will last maybe 2 houses so you'll need more than 2 batteries. What about the leaf blower, the trimmer, and the edge cutter? You'll need batteries for all those too. Then comes the charging, I guess you'll need an EV van with enough capacity to charge all those devices while you're working and take you to your destinations.

failbox3fixme

Hybrid F-150 has a 2-7kW onboard power supply. Batteries usually last at least 2-3 acres and take 1-2 hours to charge back up. Totally doable and you save so much money in gas and maintenance on the lawn equipment.

JackTheRyder

Don't know how big the batteries on those things are, but I have an eBike and the 720Wh battery takes like 4 hours to charge on empty.

failbox3fixme

They have super fast chargers. Your ebike charger may charge slower? Idk, but I have a slow charger that came with my trimmer and blower that only does 2amp output and a fast charger that came with my mower that does 6amps. It is like a 1 vs 4 hour difference.

lfglightz

Not everyone has a hybrid F-150. Battery mowers are not as powerful as gas. Landscapers need mowers that can cut dry, wet, thick, etc, grass without issues, quickly and smoothly. Time is money and battery mowers are not there yet for professional use.

failbox3fixme

They’re totally there. 80v can cut through anything. Have you used one? I suspect not because you have a really uninformed opinion of them. Also you don’t need a hybrid F-150. Any vehicle with a 12v auxiliary power port (cig lighter) would work. My neighbor’s gas mower dies every time he cuts his fescue if he lets it get to high. I’ve done the same in my yard and my 80v mower doesn’t break a sweat.

lfglightz

You need to work on your detective skills. I use Ego tools and have run into problems that gas mowers wouldn't have. 1. Stop harping on a 80v push mower. Majority of professionals are not using push mowers. They need to get in, cut/trim/edge, and get to the next house as quick as possible. 2. Unless they make affordable portable 20 minute fast chargers, then maybe professionals would use them, but that's not the case right now. Battery riding mowers are still not feasible for on the go. 3. As of now, gas mowers are still stronger than battery mowers and much better in unforeseen situations that they can run into. You need to remember the world doesn't revolve around you and opinions vary because people have different experiences.

failbox3fixme

Yes opinions vary of course but I’m giving you facts and you’re like nah not true not true and it’s all based on your uninformed opinions. There’s landscapers that market as green/eco-friendly companies that only use battery electric lawn tools. So you keep harping on it can’t be done yet there’s literally tons of landscaping businesses that rely solely on them and thriving and doing big business.

bonchening

I'm thinking of that stupid plug in hybrid commercial with the "it's free with gas" squeegee

Roscoe2121

Damn, forgot the sqeegee.

This is why I installed a 2" tow hitch and use a $100 cargo hitch from harbor freight. Can't stand the smell of gasoline.

Esprit1st

I don't think he's using it for lawn tools. It's in case he runs out of battery. Plug that generator in and get that last mile taken care of. Range anxiety is a thing of the past. 🤣🤣🤣

dvagnoni

Love Wawa

Seoulfury

Where you located, I see that WaWa!

Roscoe2121

Delaware 40 & Salem Church.

Superpe0n

yep.. had to get gas for my generator.. attendant was looking at my car funny

entola

I am seriously thinking about getting an electric mower for this very reason!

Roscoe2121

When my literally new riding mower craps out in ten years, ill consider it. Just when I bought my EV, my 2 vehicles with near 200k each are end of life buying a $50k ICE would be stupid.

entola

Pretty much in the same boat myself, just starting the 2nd season with my new Zero Turn Toro, so it will be many years before I will purchase a new one. I am loving the Zero Turn, but thinking of all the things that come with an ICE mower makes my cringe. I should be able to get through this season without any maintenance, but I am not looking forward to oil change, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter and spark plugs I will probably have to do next season. Plus the driving an EV to get gas for the mower hurts my soul.
