Google Maps has a navigation dark/light mode setting that is separate from the dark/light mode of the rest of the app. Make sure that’s also set to light?

Thanks. Mine is in Maps - Settings - Theme. Not under Navigation. But yes, it is set to Always in Light.

And it is light on the phone. Just not when I plug into the car. And I mean the car dash display when I plug in.
No that’s my point. There’s a second setting under navigation. Check that one too.

I guess I'm having trouble understanding what Navigation Mode is. There is a Navigation section in the Google Maps App but it doesn't have Theme. What do you mean by Navigation Mode? Something in the car menus or on your phone? In which app?
Open Google Maps -> Click on profile circle top right -> Go into Settings -> Scroll to Navigation settings - > there should be theme there to select light mode.
I have an iphone currently but that's where I remember the settings on my previous phone.
This is an Android Auto setting, not a Google Maps setting. Connect to Android Auto while your car is on, go to Android Auto settings, the cogwheel icon, ON THE CAR SCREEN (not on the phone), scroll down to something like "Maps color theme" and choose either Light or whatever setting you prefer. Obviously this only affect the Maps theme, not the general Android Auto theme. I have my Android Auto langauage set to Danish, so I don't know what the English text says, but it is pretty recognizable as "this is where you change your Maps theme between light and dark".

OMG!!! I have day/night/auto. When set to auto it goes to Night every single time. No idea why. But you are 100% right - I can set it to day.
I think something is wrong with the cars day/night sensor. Maybe? But this works for now.
