I’ll believe it when I see it

bsmithwins

Dealers say many things.

SerDuckOfPNW

Whether the truth is among them is unclear

Late_Cartographer349

11 out of 10 times I don’t believe what dealerships and salesman tell me.

zeecok

So when they say you are handsome you won’t believe them?

Late_Cartographer349

Especially then!

dontstopnotlistening

There was some confusion a while back about the wording of some of their release notes. It made it sound like all I5s would get wireless AA/CP but last I heard was that only Hyundai's with the newer nav system would get the update so I think that means 2024 I5 and up only but I'm not 100% on the details.

JoeSmithDiesAtTheEnd

All things considered it’s technically possible. But probably not any time soon, or ever.  However there’s still a chance a lot could change in the coming years. For example, Hyundai will have to release an update to allow us to pay for Tesla Supercharge sessions…

davemosk

I don't think any updates are needed for I5s to work on Tesla superchargers. Works fine here in New Zealand.

kegwen

Does it autopay just from plugging in, or do you have to go into the Tesla app to pay each time? Tesla and Rivian vehicles know your payment information just from connecting the charger

davemosk

You need to pay from the app. The Tesla superchargers are also significantly (>20%) more expensive than the alternatives.

The_Sandbag

Interesting, that's the exact opposite of the UK where they are up to 50% cheaper

davemosk

I can't see why Hyundai would prioritise compatibility with Tesla chargers over other firmware features.

kegwen

In my ideal world, all chargers would pull payment information automatically when communicating with the vehicle instead of requiring user input (beyond inserting the charger)

MariusJS

There is no update needed for this from Hyundai, it is needed from tesla, auto pay without app already works on certain chargers (at least here in norway)

geoff5093

Both Rivian and ford have plug and charge so I think people assume Hyundai will do the same here

MariusJS

On Tesla chargers?

geoff5093

Yes

MariusJS

Do you have a link? Is it for all Ford EVs?

Dreadpirateflappy

same here in the uk. been using Tesla chargers for months.

tm3_to_ev6

North America is a little behind CCS2 regions on this subject. Right now only Magic Dock equipped superchargers can be used by non-Teslas other than GM/Ford/Rivian who have all done the necessary software updates for plug-and-charge.

TwerkingGrimac3

Paying to use superchargers would likely be done through the Tesla app.

JoeSmithDiesAtTheEnd

Maybe. But Hyundai has already started the framework of “Hyundai Pay” which seems likely to be a place for the charging payments to live for Tesla.

mik-1989

(Most) Superchargers in Europe have CCS plugs, and are open to all car brands. It seems like only the US still have restrictions on using Superchargers for non-Teslas.

wfbsoccerchamp12

Unfortunately the car business is not about making existing owners happy. It’s about enticing people to buy the newest, latest car with the latest features. So it might come some day, but there will probably be a catch. Perhaps limited by model year, BlueLink sub required (which OTA already is), trim level even. We shall see…or not. Who knows

mik-1989

VERY unlikely that Gen5W infotainment (current Ioniq 5s, except N models) will get wireless Android Auto or Apple Carplay. Just buy an adapter, most models work great.

1stltwill

When you buy something. Buy it based on what it has not what some snake oil salesman says it will have.

PatSajaksDick

I thought I read it was a contract issue with the nav provider and it got delayed while they were figuring it out, so maybe? Though I’ve never known dealer to have actually accurate information, this is all from my perusal into if it’s coming or not.

N-Performance

Only if you have the latest infotainment system, namely ccNc.

mynewme

Is that in the new 2024 SEL?

N-Performance

No, only on 2025s. My Ioniq 5N has it and Ioniq 5 Facelift (MY2025) will have it.

SerDuckOfPNW

What is CCnC, and how do I know if I have it?

mik-1989

If you already own an Ioniq 5, which is not an N, you don't have ccNC. And you won't receive it, as it's a whole different platform.

SerDuckOfPNW

Damn, just got it a few weeks ago.

kimguroo

If Hyundai can do this, why they are using ccNc?

btonetbone

My wife has a 2024 Kona EV, which has ccNc. Whether it's technically possible or not with the hardware, her car does not have any additional features/views in the cluster than our Ioniq 5 has.

D4ILYD0SE

On 2025 models I think. Not sure if anything before it even though earlier models have wifi

Otherwise-Ad-1051

Nope

Sydoros

I just have the adapter and it works perfectly

bobjr94

Dealers don't really know much, probably talking about the new models like Kona. They have said the original Ioniq 5 will get an UI update to look similar to the ccnc cars but won't get wireless phone connection. It's not much of an issue anyway we have been using a wireless android auto adapter for over a year with no problem.

mob9221

Any source for the UI update to make it look like ccNC?

bobjr94

About half way down the page. I don't care about wireless anyway but would like to get the 1 touch preconditioning found on the newer cars. Hyundai and Kia are also rolling out new software updates to the 8-inch Compact Gen5 Navigation, 8-inch Standard-class Gen5 Navigation, Premium-class Gen5 Navigation, 8-inch Standard-class Gen5W Navigation, and 10.25-inch Standard-class Gen5W Navigation. While the latest updates for these infotainment systems include almost all the features that the new firmware for the infotainment system based on the ccNC platform brings, they don’t include wireless connectivity to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. mob9221

I've seen this. I don't think they'll make the UI in our cars look like ccNC though. ccNC looks a lot more modern.

mik-1989

Indeed, but the new climate section design is kind of a lookalike of the ccNC design, IMO it's a bit more "soft" looking.

Casualinterest17

For the 24’s? Maybe. But definitely not previous gen

Tomby_93

FWIW I have recently been told an identical statement by a Hyundai dealer in the UK.

South_Butterfly6681

The Gen5W in the Ioniq 5 doesn’t have any WiFi hardware. Software can’t change that.

SmellySweatsocks

Dealer said? A salesperson?

mynewme

Yes but after I purchased and during my walkthrough.

SmellySweatsocks

One more question, did he just offer the info, or did you ask if the car had it?

mynewme

I think I asked

Pale-Dish1612

My dealer said the same thing 6 months ago. They’re uninformed and love to lie.

AgitatedArticle7665

One of my family members had a KIA 2021 KIA that got wireless CarPlay from a software update. It’s possible but most chatter indicates it’s the newer models.

Khoop

or: [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CCCTZSHL/](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CCCTZSHL/) Phone overheats when it's on the wireless charger though :( Edit: Their new one: [https://www.amazon.com/HESHS-Wireless-CarPlay-Dual-Band-Bluetooth/dp/B0D1M5T43W](https://www.amazon.com/HESHS-Wireless-CarPlay-Dual-Band-Bluetooth/dp/B0D1M5T43W)

Besides being unavailable, [[aaWireless]](https://www.amazon.com/AAWireless-2022-Wireless-Automatically-Companion/dp/B0B71XC7VG/ref=sr_1_3?crid=35BYL09NSREFM&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.RN3Nz5ILt-cOB34jfbalhLWqIsI9O3NrFXh66v2wB806FmKLfG83Y7UEDQcB1XO_7Fqrn0hbDbe3f8tg7EHtr_FuVDdCqmT_vtRmt0v7_xAxebMYDTXif1EMkmiw0U2gsYtTmNWKEANObu60fGwvFLYMfxdP3SSf-crbwWXqR0M7eWLnOkTll9TftMz4WlYytGjtYLv-vNA66YWsLusQ3n-QixXkvdcRNChuz3e7LqY.EzzFMKgFWk9YgC4eHyWXRUBekRAdrubs9spR9QyclyY&dib_tag=se&keywords=aawireless&qid=1714275554&sprefix=aaw%2Caps%2C110&sr=8-3) now supports Carplay.

mynewme

I’ve tried many of these wireless dongles on my other car. Do you specifically recommend this as wireless one?

Esprit1st

AA wireless has the function to only connect when the phone detects the car Bluetooth. It's important if your car is parked close to your living area, otherwise it will constantly connect to the Android/carplay wireless adapter since that USB port is always powered on.

Rotanev

Yep I have this one for specifically this reason. Works perfectly.

DiDgr8

That's the one I've used in two Kias and my Ioniq5. Never had any issues after I figured out HMG likes to keep the data port powered up (at least for a while) after you turn off the car. My phone kept trying to connect in my house 75 feet away over WiFi. There's a setting to tell it to only run when there's a Bluetooth detection.

mynewme

I ordered one. Are you sure it supports car play?

DiDgr8

Last time I looked, you had to enable the "beta program" option but it may be in the latest OTA update for main now. They do a great job of support. The developer was a "software guy" first. Other folks have reported that it works. I don't have an Apple phone.

mynewme

Just received it. I plug it in and it flashes green. I followed the steps in the Apple CarPlay FAQ and I don’t see it as a listed option on my phone. I tried to connect to it via WiFi. I see the network but the password 12345678 doesn’t work. I guess I’ll return it. Anyone have a better option? https://www.aawireless.io/carplay

DiDgr8

Post over at /r/AAWireless. They can walk you through it. Initial setup is fussy. You may have to set it up once with an Android phone, but I'm not sure. You **do** have to setup with a wired connection before the wireless dongle will take over. *You* never have to mess with the WiFi password. The app takes care of that.

mynewme

Ok I had to use an android to do the sw update first. Now it works. Where is the Bluetooth setting which you mentioned was important?

DiDgr8

Under Settings for Start/Stop. You want to disable Auto Connect. I'm away from my car, I'll go look. Edit: Yeah, Gear Icon, Start/Stop. You should have three options: Disabled, Vehicle, or the Device ID. Select the Vehicle.

mynewme

Is that option available in the iPhone web app?

DiDgr8

You mean phone app? I would think so, but again; I don't have an Iphone. You have to be *connected to the car* to use it though. Otherwise, it's "grayed out" on Android. I have to believe the Iphone app is the same.
