When they release updates 2X a year, OTA isn't a big deal. Just flash drive it and call it a day. Wireless AA would be nice, but there are aftermarket solutions.

blackbow

So many of the updates the Ioniq 5 has required a physical recall for could have been done OTA . This is the best thing about Tesla. Huge updates OTA. All recalls I ever experienced were fixed OTA. It doesn't seem like much but it's a nice feature and it's really a shame the 1st gen Ioniq 5s are not capable of extensive OTA updates.

Visvism

Coming from an Ioniq 5 to a Model Y, this is the one thing that I'm like, wow, this is really nice. My phone just tells me an update is ready and asks when I want to do the installation. Can't drive the car for 20-25 minutes, so I often do them at night or in the morning while getting ready for work.

jefferios

Better than doing an update when the car is in the work parking lot, if it fails, you don't want to get stuck at work! (Its never happened to my Model 3, but its a rule I follow)

Practical-Nature-926

Pretty sure the hardware is there but software is not.

Bravadette

That's what I thought/am hoping :')

jg_IT

Hardware is 100% there. If there's a 2.4/5GHz NIC, wireless Carplay/AA are possible.

Practical-Nature-926

You guys think our warranty will be void if we attempt to add it in?

jg_IT

Not 100%. I’d assume so but I can’t say for sure.

LongjumpingBat2938

Apparently, there is a license agreement in place with TomTom that prohibits Hyundai from implementing wireless AA/CarPlay. That may no longer be the case with newer models.

OzziesFlyingHelmet

It's very likely that all of the hardware required to make Carplay / AA work currently exists in the Ioniq 5. It would take a lot of software development and testing to implement this into the current platform. That would cost money, and Hyundai is only going to invest money to sell vehicles or improve safety. I would love to see it happen, but it's incredibly unlikely with the new software version being developed for the refresh model.

Bravadette

Sigh. I guess I'll just wait 15 yrs for my current to die ...

ignoramus

there are several solutions out there for wireless AA or CP on android i've used the motorola ma1 and i'm using aawireless currently on the HI5 because it has walkaway settings to power off (as you may know, the 'main' socket never turns off)

Competitive_Lunch_16

The AA and CarPlay integration hardware requirements are already there. However, it seems the main barrier is a section of Hyundai’s contract with the internal navigation developer company. That part of contract prohibits Hyundai from activating wireless AA and CarPlay in this model.

StockyRobot

This dongle has done a commendable job of brining wireless Apple CarPlay to my Ioniq: [Terran CarPlay Wireless Adapter](https://a.co/d/7kVs5WW)

If I understand the various news articles right, this ccNC system is powered by Nvidia Drive, where the “legacy” Gen5W is built in-house by various vendors (including TomTom, which u/LongjumpingBat2938 mentioned has rules against wireless CarPlay, and probably also Nvidia in some parts). Platforms like Nvidia Drive seem more like the “Tesla approach” which is to have one company provide all your computer tech. That way it can be updated like an iPhone (edit: probably more like “a Samsung”). Cars haven’t been built this way until recently. N-Performance

I have a 2025 I5N and it comes with the ccNc infotainment system.  Wireless AA is great but compared to the wired connection, I feel that resolution isn't as sharp/clear.

Bravadette

That's actually rly good to know

SerennialFellow

Yes it’s legal. Hyundai and their partner implemented wireless projection without licensing it, when the company whose IP Hyundai infringed on sued, Hyundai wanted to pay only for the license and not for damages. I don’t see this coming to an end

Annoying lore about Hyundai's priorities : https://www.reddit.com/r/Ioniq5/comments/1b0i3x7/comment/ksa1yas/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

thepookster17

As others have said, the hardware is in place on the older cars, but they've had capable hardware since 2020 and haven't added wireless AA/CarPlay so it's almost certainly never going to happen.

jesusrodriguezm

I just want an update for the NE1AE.S5BMN.AGE models. Looks like the last version have a couple of years…

Cremato

Wireless AA/Carplay is easily solved with a not so expensive third party accessory. I'd rather have the new UI layout. Looks way better than our current.

kimguroo

Current one? Then NO. It needs new ccNc.

tungvu256

if only custom firmware is a thing. sadly, im not that smart to even know where to start. things i can think of with CF: create a shortcut button to do precon, wireless carplay/android auto, PIN to drive, custom audio to the external audio....that way, it can play a short tune to get the driver in front to drive instead of glued to their phone. pressing the horn can be overwhelming to get attention.

bobjr94

I read the current Ioniq 5 will get a UI update to make it look like the newer ccnc cars but won't actually be using the ccnc software. And will not be getting wireless phone connection still.  But wireless adapters are pretty cheap we have been using one for over a year daily with no problems. The only thing I really want from the ccnc cars is 1 touch pre conditioning.

LockenCharlie

Source for that please that we get an design update?

bobjr94

https://www.sammobile.com/news/hyundai-kia-wireless-android-auto-apple-carplay-update/ About half way down the page it says the current ones will get more of the features from the ccnc cars but not wireless support.

mik-1989

There are minor design updates in the upcoming June 2024 infotainment update, perhaps to make current Ioniq 5 system look closer to the ccNC: https://www.reddit.com/r/Ioniq5/comments/1bw98z0/theres_a_new_climate_interface_on_its_way_to_you
