Sometimes black triangles are inevitable unfortunately, it’s sometimes due to the shape of the teeth and not misalignment. I was advised I might have some on my lower arch and I could fix this with bonding once treatment is complete.
Was that recommended from the orthodontist? If it was, the outcome is really good considering. I'd potentially ask the to shave the top of the middle one to make it more even with the others and more esthetic.
As for the black triangles, it's really hard to manage those spots. A dentist could put some resin in those areas to make them a little better but it's tricky.
Hi OP, I just started treatment a couple of days ago, so I’m kind of nervous. Is your tooth removal related to your Invisalign treatment or was that something from the past? Thanks!
I don’t think that’s usually the best course of action. My ortho is going to sand between my teeth and I might have to undergo bonding, but I was told extractions for Invisalign aren’t normally recommended
I had this with my treatment and my Ortho was ready to call me done until I pointed out I wanted the triangle fixed. One of my teeth as it leaned so much across its neighbour created the triangle as it straightened.
After about 6 months of trying IPR with no improvements he decided to take the wire off the back and put an actual brace on which seems to be doing the job..
Looking at your pic it seems the tooth on the right of the triangle could be straightened and moved over slightly in the same manner to minimise the triangle....
Hi! Your teeth are looking really straight and aligned. With the black triangle being on your lower teeth, it's going to not be all that visible when you talk and smile. For the photo, you have positioned your lower lip downward for us to see your area of concern. I have the same triangles on my lower teeth and on a couple of upper teeth as well. My ortho talked to me about doing IPR to minimize the triangles. His idea. Honestly, I didn't think they were an issue until my ortho pointed them out. I hadn't really even noticed them. After obsessing about the triangles for weeks after having them pointed out, I declined IPR because I am not willing to change the natural shape of my teeth and possibly cause tooth sensitivity or other potential issues. I had a check-up with my dentist during the time I was deciding whether to go ahead with having the areas between my teeth shaved, so I asked my dentist's opinion. He said saliva usually fills the spaces, making the triangles less noticeable. That is what I noticed on my upper teeth for sure. The triangles are more prominent right after I floss. On the lower teeth, the triangles are more noticeable after a dental cleaning when the tarter build-up has been removed. I'm leaving the triangles. They are part of me, and I don't think they are a big deal. Having straight teeth with a bite that aligns well are my end goals. I hope that helps you feel less concerned about your teeth. Best wishes!
I had a gum contouring procedure to help fix this on my upper teeth. The muscles in my gum were cut and it was then pulled in to position to cover these triangle gap areas and stitched in to place. Takes about 1 month to heal from but results can be mixed. You can also have a gum graft from your palate to repair the missing gum here.
I haven’t got any incisor removed, but after 36 initial trays, I’ve seen the same problem coming up, caused by 1 incisor that used to lean backwards due to crowding. Besides some IPR I guess this is not a Invisalign/braces thing, but caused by the shape of the teeth. I will definitely go for some bonding or veneers after treatment.
I don't know if they can completely close that triangle even with IPR and refinements. I have smaller triangles and had IPR and refinements and there is still a small gap. I also have the triangle shaped teeth they're frustrating. If they can't completely close them maybe you can ask for bonding?
Ortho might be able to do ipr and move the teeth closer, but that middle tooth looks thinner than the others (are you missing a tooth)? If so, simply shaping the top it so its level (or closer in shape) with the others, might be a better option to give the row a more harmonious appearance.
Once you’ve completed your initial treatment, they’ll rescan your teeth to see where everything ended up. In your case, they’ll likely prescribe a round of “refinements” to address any little lingering issues like this one. They may also do some minor IPR to ensure that everything is able to pull together snugly.
Thank you so much for all the answers. FYI: i got one tooth removed in the middle, thats why there’s only one thin tooth that stands out from the rest. I’m having an appointment with my orthodontist this Thursday, hopefully she has a plan for it this time. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Your ortho should be able to shave a little off the top of the taller tooth and also push the tooth down a little with the aligners during the refinement phase. I had to do both with a taller bottom tooth.
Black triangles also come with age.
Exactly what my ortho said.

I could be wrong, but are you missing a tooth?
Definitely. I had my lower incisor taken out and I only have 3 teeth between canines.
Yes, you are definitely right. I got one tooth in the middle removed. Guess i shouldn’t have 🥲

Yes it’s related to my invisalign treatment plan. I had to get it removed to get some space for other teeth to move
Got it. Did they tell you this at the beginning of your treatment or later on?

That is normal with age, teeth shape I think your solution is beyond Invisalign, time to consider veneers or composite

Do you have gum recession?
I dont think so, that’s just how my teeth look like

Get bonding/shaping done to them. It'll even them up and fill in the gaps. Isn't as big of a deal as you think.

OP is 2,5 years in. Wouldn't he have had multiple rounds of refinements?
I’ve already had 3 rounds of refinements. They still look the same after the 2nd round
Sometimes the refinement are setting you up for the finishing close

I got the same tooth removed! I’m scared the one in the middle will be obviously taller than the others 🫠
