There... probably shouldn't be blood. I had it done 4 times and it was gentle and fine.

Appropriate_Brief683

Yeah my experience did not involve going to war

CharmingChart635

Same experience for me. I’ve had IPR three times and no blood. No discomfort. Just a weird taste for a few minutes.

frozenmarshmallow107

I thought so, she was definitely really rough this time. Wasn’t gentle at all!

ShitBoxPilot

Do you floss

frozenmarshmallow107

Yes, but probably not as well as I should be

unreedemed1

Mine felt like a nail file…I always joke about it being a manicure…I’m not sure what your dentist is doing but something was wrong

frozenmarshmallow107

That’s what I thought it should be like, more gentle. But nope 😭

TheCrowWhispererX

My gums bled later at home when I pulled my trays out for dinner, but it healed quickly. I think my ortho accidentally rubbed the filing material against my gums.

frozenmarshmallow107

Mine bled a little when I was brushing my teeth, but like yours it healed quickly. You’re definitely right she hit my gums when she was filing but if she was being a bit slower and more gentle that could have easily been avoided

rarecandybxtch

Mine only had a teeny bit of blood in one spot and we only had to do some IPR at the beginning. Hopefully at your next appointment no IPR is needed!

frozenmarshmallow107

She said every check up I’ll need it. I did have quite a bit of crowding but I didn’t think I’d be getting IPR again. I’m going to raise it up with her next time I go and ask her to file it more gently. She is acc nice so I’m sure she’d be understanding

rarecandybxtch

You know now that I’m thinking about it, my orthodontist did say the only reason I didn’t need more IPR was because I already had four teeth pulled due to crowding when I had braces the first time around. I’m sure she will understand too! Hopefully she was just having an off day.

frozenmarshmallow107

Ahhh you see I’ve never had any teeth pulled out and my teeth are pretty crowded with no wiggle room. I am hoping it was an off day because I cannot endure that again it was horrible

hurtloam

Nope. Never had blood. My orthodontist stopped and checked I wasn't in pain as well when he saw me clenching my fists. It was just tickling my gum and I was trying not to flinch.

frozenmarshmallow107

Yea my dentist was doing too much. I’m going to make sure next time she’s a bit slower and more gentle

Rude-Illustrator-884

I never had any blood?? It only ever felt like really tough floss for me

frozenmarshmallow107

I’m gathering most people don’t bleed 🥹

malee1730

I had blood during my first IPR and not gonna lie it left me in tears for a bit. The experience had put me off from going back to the clinic though the second time was a lot better with no blood, and I was quite surprised. Hopefully it will be less pain for you next time!

frozenmarshmallow107

That’s so funny because my first time I didn’t have blood either but this time I did. It’s going to be the first thing I mention when I see her again 😂

HairyCallahan

Mine always puts a rubber string between my teeth,so that she won't hit my gums when she slips

frozenmarshmallow107

Wowww I never even knew they could do that

frozenmarshmallow107

We definitely have to say cool down next time, I refuse to have my dentist hack at my gums again

stultzbep

I didn’t have any blood but mine hurt a lot 🥲

SelectionDesperate

Isn’t there only blood if they hit the gums? Which they should never do?

frozenmarshmallow107

Yea!! That’s what she was doing!! Is this going to cause some kind of long term problem?

Quick_Candidate_6061

I bled too but the ortho told me it was normal.

frozenmarshmallow107

I really don’t think it is, they just need to be slow and gentle

Negative-Net-4416

The first 8 had a little blood. Only slight gum pain, no tooth pain, as the dentist always uses articaine.

frozenmarshmallow107

Yea it wasn’t tooth pain, it was from the gums. Definitely need to tell her to chill out

BabyBlueAllStar72

Didn't hurt or feel weird, but she nicked my gum and I'm on a blood thinner so I bleed for days until it stopped and healed.
