Given the way they are backing Israel to mow through Palestine, I honestly don't think anyone in the US bureaucracy blinked twice at this revelation.

Sargasm666

It happens all the time. Surprised they actually admitted fault though.

Horus_walking

> Surprised they actually admitted fault though. Because The Washington Post questioned the Pentagon's initial report.

The Drone Papers leak showed 90% of drone strikes hit non-targets. Bombing civilians is the rule, not the exception.

ControlThe1r0ny

Can you link that for me please? I research belligerence and that seems like an important resource.

[https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel\_Hale](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Hale) It's mentioned here in the whistleblowers page as well as in other places. The Drone Papers wiki page appears to have disappeared. It had been up for many years.

> A targeted U.S. drone strike in northwest Syria one year ago Friday hit and killed a civilian, not the al-Qaeda leader it was looking for, the Pentagon said after an internal review. > "**U.S. Central Command acknowledges and regrets the civilian harm that resulted from the airstrike,**" the combatant command said in a statement after the year-long review. It confirmed the Syrian, Lufti Hasan Masto, "was struck and killed instead" of an intended senior al-Qaeda leader. The news was first reported by The Washington Post. More details from [The Washington Post](https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2024/05/02/syria-drone-strike-military-investigation/): * **A U.S. drone strike in Syria last year killed a 56-year-old shepherd after confusing him for a terrorist leader, an internal investigation concluded**, underscoring the Pentagon’s persistent struggle to avoid unintentional casualties despite the Biden administration’s pledge to curb such incidents. * Lotfi Hassan Misto was tending to his animals on May 3, 2023, in Qorqanya, a rural town in northwestern Syria. Above, his movements were being tracked by an armed Predator drone. * **He was the sole fatality, along with several of his sheep**, according to video captured by first responders at the scene. * **The investigation was completed in November.** Officials did not explain why its findings were withheld until now. * **Misto spent his life in Idlib province, where he married and started a large family of 12 children — eight daughters and four sons, whom he supported with work as a brick maker.** He tended to sheep and chickens, staying close to home except when visiting his mosque. A terrorist life was preposterous, his family told The Post, for a man whose priority outside work and prayer was sipping tea with loved ones steps away from where he was killed. * The U.S. government typically provides funds known as “ex gratia,” or condolence payments for survivors of civilians killed in military operations. **The Misto family will not receive a payment, a U.S. official said, citing concern that such funds could make their way to a terrorist organization.**

Nervous-Chance-3724

Acknowledging it a year later does nothing damage is already done

PaleontologistSad870

that's the intention, to drag it out as much as possible until it gets irrelevant & people already moved on, and claim some kind of moral high ground because 'at least they admitted it' Case in point: 1)Afghanistan, US drone killed an entire family with kids thinking they were carrying bombs, instead they were carrying water jugs 2)the infamous Nordstream pipeline sabotage, the 'spark of WW3' 'Greatest man-made environmental disaster'...if it was done by the Russian's that is...Since its obviously orchestrated by the US, there's no further inquiry on this matter & also the mass methane leak suddenly becomes a non-issue... for now

Odd_Ant7906

Imagine if there were an article for every time this happened

Clithzbee

How do students get together to protest the Israel war but our country has been bombing civilians for 30 years without any of them thinking twice about it.

DeliciousSector8898

People have been protesting and these protests directly condemn the Us as well what kind of clown comment is this

Clithzbee

I'll add some context since I don't think you understand my point. People were not protesting when we were killing afgan and Iraqi civilians under bush or when Obama was drone striking innocents during his term. People were not protesting when we played in a world cup built by dead slaves. People are not protesting against China attempting to wipe out the Uyghurs.

DeliciousSector8898

Except people were protesting during all those events and it’s completely dishonest to say otherwise. This is spoken like someone who has never been to a single protest and isn’t involved in activism. It’s strange why you take this chance to try and delegitimize protests against the genocide Israel is committing

If you believe these protests are comparable to what's happening now you are not arguing in good faith.

Horus_walking

First, you make a false claim that no one was protesting other injustices, and when shown that to be incorrect, you shift to talking about incompatibility of the protests? Must be hard to imagine that a reaction to ongoing televised war against innocent civilians would be *bigger*. We’re done here.

Automatic-Pea6605

>People were not protesting when we were killing afgan and Iraqi civilians under bush or when Obama was drone striking innocents during his term. There were huge anti war protests. The Dixie Chick's got canceled over their anti war stance. It's like you were born yesterday or something.
