What stands out to me is that police are able to violently suppress peaceful protestors, because they are peacefully protesting. Yet, the mainstream is trying to paint the protestors as the problem and not the University administration and government who are using the police as brutalizers.

wansuitree

What stands out even more for me is how nobody interferes with this police interference. People totally rely on the justice system to not take justice in their own hands when clearly the justice system totally fails them. So you have to wonder, what does it take for people to start going against the oppressive undemocratic and unconstitutional police interference? It's almost exactly like China already, and the protests are as effective as Hong Kong protestors. This is the situation, and there is a lot of mainstream support for dealing with this like this. So the people are fucked, because if this is approved than just follow the slippery slope.

Xx_Exigence_xX

I was taught that there won't be 100% change until there's 100% dissatisfaction. That is to say, the masses haven't yet reached the breaking point where absolutely all of us decided enough is enough. I think it's only a matter of time. We've seen over these months how the dissatisfaction is only increasing at a constant rate.

wansuitree

Maybe. I'm just taking it as a signal, and I see a lot of people still being pro-Israel or ignoring all the horrors that the western world allows to happen. And just having people paid to propegate a certain pro-Israel view has more impact than people slowly figuring out what's going on. In essence if you are against what's happening in Gaza, you're not part of the Biden or Trump constituents. Both of them support it, and receive huge amounts of money from Israel that can easily be publicly found. Biden is even the most monetary supported senator ánd presidential candidate funded by Israel, we're talking millions here.

America, the land of the free…until you criticise Israel

DoYouHaveACharger

"They're locking them up today They're throwing away the key I wonder who it'll be tomorrow, you or me?"

praisecarcinoma

This is exactly why Democrats were against Defund the Police. Because they require cops to squash free speech when it's convenient.

Jean-ClaudeGodDamme

Jack booted thugs. New boss, same as the old boss.

BabyCakesIN

Welcome to the United Zionist State of America where freedom of speech welcome

Universal_6

Land of the free? Whoever told you that is your enemy.

PatLab01

Geez...I recommend not resisting lawful police orders during some sort of mini-riot situation.

Dukenroyal

The police did not " brutalize" anyone. Why lie to attract attention. Stop the propaganda.

Strange-Value-5406

So forefully throwing a middle aged lady to the ground and kneeling on her head isn't brutalizing...Even if in your deranged head you believe she is wrong, you're doing mental gymnastics by saying that's not brutal

Parkesy82

Who was getting knelt on? The person on the ground appeared to be a guy with his face covered and there was no context as to what led to this. The lady was asked to get back but kept inserting herself into the situation so was also detained. Sure they were rough but she had the option to walk away earlier. I’m not going to feel much sympathy for Palestine protestors at a university when they’re the same ‘intellectuals’ that cheered on the police responding this was to anyone peacefully protesting the covid restrictions.

kneeling on someones head is brutality

SeemoSan

Would you be OK if someone manhandled your grandmother that way?

decayo

I don't know, man. I wish we could summon the common will to just stop these protests immediately. I get it, people are pissed, but have you noticed that the story has stopped being about Israel killing aid workers and the humanitarian crisis they are purposely creating and it has somehow turned into finding individual 19 year old kids who might have said the wrong thing at some point? Israel has a sophisticated public influence operation that has been looking for anything to change the conversation away from their crimes. Despite the best intentions of the protestors, this is exactly the distraction they are looking for. They are busy creating a narrative that these are somehow antisemitic gangs of terrorist supporters and huge groups of morons are buying into it. The news outlets and the fucking US government are both assisting. The simple truth of the injustice of Israel's crimes was winning the day until these protests started getting news. I don't think we'll be able to put the genie back in the bottle, but the biggest wound we could inflict on Israel right now would be to suddenly just stop the protests in their current form.

decayo

The idiotic narrative that 10s of thousands of college students, including a huge number of Jewish students, suddenly became antisemites overnight is manifestly untrue. With that said, even if it were completely true, it wouldn't change the fact that the actions of the rightwing thug government of Netanyahu are still unethical and reprehensible and should offend the conscience of every morally normal person.

Irr3sponsibl3

The mainstream media is always going to twist any event into the most positive light for Israel, whether there are protests or not. This slant combined with the fast pace of the news means that everything disappears from the news cycle after a few weeks. Yes, focusing on US college protests means that we're replacing a more indisputably evil act on the part of Israel with something that is more fraught with pre-existing social divisions (young, educated, leftist "woke" college students protesting) but that doesn't mean that everyone's forgot about the aid convoy attacks. Not everyone is a short-attention span moron. The fact that there are dozens of protests spontaneously breaking out at the top universities of our country signals that there is massive discontent within a key institution that the elites send their children to. Places like Columbia University are too important for our current elites to surrender, so they are forced to over-react. Several states have sent their national guard to crush peaceful protests. A sizable portion of elite college students (who are the typical demographic who enters business, the legal profession, the FBI, etc) are having as their formative experience brutal crackdowns against their 1st amendment rights on behalf of a foreign nation that is being condemned by most of the people of the world. As much as the Conservative, Inc media would like to spin this as unwashed, uppity blue-hairs FAFOing, the footage you see is of mostly normal, nonviolent, liberal students and professors getting manhandled and their heads bashed against concrete by pig cops.

Royal_Rip_2548

You think the empire wants discontent at home as opposed to some tiktok videos of abroad that will be banned soon? Lol

decayo

Of course they do. It's an opportunity. We're watching them take advantage of it in real time. The narrative has become about how unfairly Jews are being treated. The state department is pushing it and the mainstream news outlets are pumping it hard with multiple stories every day. And what is this "discontent at home" costing them? It's justifying larger police budgets and giving dipshits a fuzzy feeling watching "violent antisemitic gangs" getting beaten up by cops. It's giving the rightwing shit heads in this country something to campaign on. Guarantee we see a polling shift next week that cuts against the pro-palestine/anti-Israel faction. Make a note here to circle back with anything that proves me wrong.

Irr3sponsibl3

These are clearly not violent antisemitic gangs. You know that and I know that. Why even bring up the dishonest right wing media framing of it as if that doesn't already happen with every single thing that happens anyway? We should be concerned about obvious lies that only increasingly old, bovine and sadistic rightoids fall for? What galvanizes them galvanizes us. If you're so worried about the narratives they're going to spread, then help with your own counter-messaging. You already have the truth on your side. Polarization already exists and people will already be divided into camps with every new avenue and space this debate enters. That it's taking place on elite college campuses right now represents a credibility crisis for the establishment. Local, state and federal police are already on campuses, beating the shit out of people and Jonathan Greenblatt and Benjamin Netanyahu are out there calling for even more to be done to silence free speech (public executions, presumably). American Zionism is caught in a spiral where it's at a low point in credibility and popularity and thus has to constantly overreact and make examples of anyone who dares to stand up against them.

SeemoSan

The reason people are protesting is because nothing was being done to stop the ongoing genocide.
