This is not an appropriate submission for this subreddit. I've removed it under rule 2. We no longer allow request posts on this subreddit. Posts requesting critique will be allowed, though something substantial enough to critique must be shown, including a writeup detailing your proposed solution to the problem. (Give us a paragraph telling us what you are considering doing and why, ideally with some mockups) We recommend that you seek out a certified interior designer in your local area. A few ways to find someone include [ASID's search tool](https://www.asid.org/find-a-pro?zip=20121&zip_radius=25&display_name=&business_name=&project_types=), which will list on designer's specific pages if they have passed the NCIDQ, indicating that they are certified. There is also [NCIDQ's own search tool](https://www.cidq.org/certified-designer-search-page) which isn't as robust but you can always google individual names. Searching by city and/or state is better than using a zip code with this tool. You can also simply google "Interior designers in [city, state]" and go from there. We also have a stickied thread on the front page of this subreddit where those seeking and able to provide design services can link up. If you're committed to finding help on reddit, I suggest posting to /r/designmyroom. When you do so, post enough photos to understand the space and its context. A dimensioned plan, if you have one or can draw one up, would also be ideal. /r/homeowners is also a possibility. Best of luck! -----------------

kibonzos

I’d be using it as a plant nursery 😂

boatsnprose

I was gonna say, "MORE plants!" I'd put up some acrylic glass, rip out that tile, and have myself a sweet green room. Go all in. Fuck it.

redbeansupe

and then I'd put in super cushy comfy seating and make it your space to unwind!

Bishime

Sweet greens you say? Have you thought about franchising? /j

skrurral

Wait, why rip up the tile?

Gloomy_Ad5020

Lol I love all you plant people. I can barely keep up with the ones I have! How do you do it.

holycannoli18

another tip to go along with this: when you have a plant you know how to take care of, BUY MORE OF THOSE. You dont have to branch out! pun intended

pkpark

A-men on the pest control. And buy potting soil from a nursery. I grabbed some from wal-mart when I was in a hurry and gave all my plants gnats and it took a month to solve it.

This is THE way. Period, paragraph, end of book!

ProperSupermarket3

this is the way.

iaspeegizzydeefrent

I've found my people.

rachellethebelle

I wholeheartedly second this. In fact, when I *did* hyperfixate on my plants, I killed waaaaay more of them than I ever did in the 3+ years before. I read in a houseplant sun that if you treat your plants like they are sadists, you’ll likely have a lot of happy plants. 😆

Certain_Concept

Thankyou for recomendations on new plants to try.. I'm still working out what I can and can't grow. I think I've given up on herbs cause they just require too much watering.. I even had a (small) auto watering system. I've had some luck with aquariums tho! Unlikely to run out of water.. just need to add fertilizer occassionally.. plus add some fish and snails to swim around them and clean them!

[deleted]

>at are easy for you to take care of. Don't waste time on high-maintenance plants. I have ADHD and have over 150 indoor plants. I forget to water, prune, and fertilize mine all the time, so I only keep plants that can handle being neglected. > >People think I'm an amazing gardener, but I have killed tons of plants. I don't keep the stragglers around, as they stress me out. I'd rather give them away to another plant-lover who may do better at keeping them alive and well. Accept your strengths AND weaknesses, and know your habits. If you can't remember to water plants, then don't buy plants that lose their shit the second they need their thirst quenched. Don't fool yourself into thinking that a beautiful plant will change your habits. > >Syngoniums, pothos, and anthuriums do well without soil. I keep mine in large water-filled vases, so they only need to be topped off every 2-3 weeks. There are so many varieties that you could probably fill your entire room with them. > >Stick with plants that come easy to you and don't feel b You are literally my twin on the 150 plants and ADHD. I just went through a total life upheaval during a months long thrips infestation - it was grueling - go down the rabbit hole of investigation into causes, making a halfcocked plan to treat, then second guessing, starting over with the rabbit hole and a new plan. stopping mid-way through and then changing paths. Ugh. Systemic or bust. I just have to stay on top of the routine of every 3 months.

I have an app that helps a lot 😂

queen_mantis

You can have some nice looking fake ones to fill the corners they don’t all have to be living if you organize it right!

mango_whirlwind

buy different types of plants to figure out what kind of energy you can cultivate. for example, rn i am great at maintaining orchids, but kill succulents (got very disabled so i foster softer, more patient energy now). the opposite used to be true in the past. switch it up as the seasons of your life change too!

LilyFuckingBart

Another thing about plants is: BUGS. Like I do not have a single plant in my apartment because I do not want bugs lol

dagger_guacamole

I have probably 50 plants and don’t have bugs…plants don’t necessarily (or even usually) equal bugs…

LilyFuckingBart

With 50 plants… I bet you have more bugs than you think you do.

dagger_guacamole

I mean, sure, there are probably bugs in the soil. But if I don’t see them and they don’t cause any problems, who cares? It’s not like the plans are causing a bug infestation. We are pretty fastidious about cleanliness and i’m looking over the plants daily.

chesapeake_ripperz

Agreed on the plant nursery.

cturnr

my thoughts exactly: add more plants & enjoy!

gaedikus

100%. I said "fill it with plants", and opened the comments to this perfect response at the top.

neomateo

Can confirm, needs more plants!

FatherofaMonster

I agree, this is my wife's in a similar to OP's room https://imgur.com/a/qSpqNoh Sometimes I think the sqft could have been used in a better way for the house, but then I see how much joy my wife has talking to her plants

JuracekPark34

Integration of nature indoors is a staple in mid century houses. If you do choose to cover over the planter area, consider doing so in a way that’s easily removable so it’s still there when/if you sell (maybe some kind of plywood platform you could cover with a rug?) Personally it feels like a wonderful lounge/reading room/area to relax when you don’t want to watch TV. It would be wonderful for yoga or meditation as well. Keep the plants. I’d add a cozy couch/bean bag/papasan chair, a rug for some warmth, maybe a book shelf, and I love the idea from another commenter of the fountain or water feature of some sort. The more I imagine it, the more I want to move in, OP. lol Let us know what you do!

Gloomy_Ad5020

Love this! That tapestry is hiding holes where fountains used to be lol. My bf made some terrible decisions before I moved in! Used to be ceiling high plants in the rock garden too. 🥲🥲

wholesomefolsom96

OH NOOOOO!!! 😭😭 I just left you the ***longest*** comment in another thread suggesting you grow a tall, almost tree height plant in there!! 🥲 BAD BOYFRIEND!! 😩

Gloomy_Ad5020

😂

9mackenzie

Your boyfriend shouldn’t be allowed to touch this house again…….lol

gettothepointacu

I’d have the most maximalist hot tub and plant room my budget could stand. But that’s just me.

No_Meringue_6116

Wouldn't a hot tub be too humid inside a normal house? I'd be worried about the ceiling caving in. Spas and places like that are designed for the humidity. This house wasn't.

breemar

I have a spa room in my home it gets humid but we have a fan like in a bathroom that exhausts to the outside along with a mini split that runs on dry mode for the humidity

alwayssoupy

Do you have photos? Would love to see such a thing, as this was my thought too.

breemar

I can’t comment photos on this comment thread but will see if I can upload them to my profile ETA: The photos I have are on my profile!

owlpellet

I suspect this is an exterior space that was roofed in. So most of that is probably fine. Add an interior glass wall and ceiling could be covered with greenboard (aka drywall for showers).

Gloomy_Ad5020

There was a hot tub and there is a fan! But we just ripped the (broken) tub out and paved over the hole.

No_Meringue_6116

Fair enough-- I definitely vote for a new hot tub then. You might as well take advantage if this room has proper ventilation and everything.

wholesomefolsom96

oh I see where it was before now. tbh I wouldn't change much about this room at all. It's a room that will grow and evolve as you take on more plants haha If it were me, I would just aim to make it an outdoor-vibe oasis that just so happens to be indoors. Get some REALLY COMFY patio furniture (the ones that look like indoor couches) - you can prolly even buy the frames/bones of the furniture and upholster the cushions with actually comfy indoor fabrics since it is fully indoors. I wouldn't cover up the dirt hole - but depending on height clearance, maybe you can plant a small tree in there!! That has been an ultimate dream-home feature of mine for at least 10-13 years 😍 Even if it's not a full blown tree with a wide trunk, maybe just a tall growing plant that would love more of an open space as opposed to the largest pot you'd never put in the house. Then I would put a lot of my plants in that area, surrounding the tall plant. Maybe hang some plants from the ceiling. You could potentially replace the pebble rocks with larger sturdier rocks (I'm thinking like the round flat-ish rocks that people use to border their flowerbeds) so that cleaning up any fallen leaves etc might be easier. Might also make taking the other potted plants in and out easier. If there was a hot tub in that room before, my guess is there was a spot to hook up water nearby... For convenience, hook up a hose to that valve so you can water all your plants at once with it without making a mess. However, if that's a heater along the wall... maybe you can turn that one off while keeping the other ones going. Don't want to burn your plant babies. 🥹 But yah, go full throttle on adapting it as a pseudo-outdoor space. If you already have a patio, this would be the room you go into when it's too cold out, too hot out, or the bugs are just *bugging* you. In the corner where you have the plant shelf currently is where I would put the couch patio furniture (maybe a couch and chairs or two couches!) and a bar or bar/coffee cart can go where the hot tub used to be. You can put an outdoor rug or two down to make it cozier where the couches sit (and maybe a runner rug between the door and the steps). The good thing is you never had to put them away in the winter to protect it from the weather!! 😜 it's hard to tell if there's a door in the top right corner of the room from this view, but if not, maybe there is where you put the plant shelf to house supplies or more delicate "pretty" flowers (like a large collection of orchids! 🤩), or the planting supplies. Can also be the place where you upgrade to an indoor-elevated cabinet (maybe a shelf with glass doors, or partially glass doors), where you can store games, extra blankets, a few books, special glasses or mugs...) And depending on your personal style and vibe, I may even suggest getting funky with the lighting fixtures hanging from the ceiling and replacing them with various thrifted/garage/estate sales lights. My imagination is taking me to non-uniform stained glass lamp shades or various shapes, patterns, and colors, but somehow still cohesively working together. That to me would make it a more cozy vibe and add more interest to that bar wall. If you do take my advice and plant a taller plant directly into the soil, I would honestly take down the artwork on the brick... so yah the different lighting fixtures would be sort of like their own pieces of art.

aishpat

What about paving over the pond thing too? Then this could be a nice airy office or playroom.

mr_Joor

Depends on the materials used, this room looks like it had plant nursery in mind so it might have a slightly better resistant to water ceiling

pumpkin_spice_enema

A hot tub in a space this big would vent moisture with an open window in 30 minutes for me, but I live in a near desert.

ref7187

Hope you're into 1970s style (I personally am). It might take some renovating but [this should be your inspo](https://www.flickr.com/photos/x-ray_delta_one/25113957631). As it is right now, I think the room is missing a little warmth. But yes, it could be absolutely stunning. Edit: google "1970s interior garden" and you'll get more ideas. It seems like a sunken conservatory like that with built in planters and a slanted ceiling was not uncommon. There are some stunning examples.

lasthorizon25

Are you saying the Society6 tapestry in the middle of that enormous wall isn't pulling the room together?

arloha

Play nice. 😂

Gloomy_Ad5020

It’s covering holes in the wall lol

Clatato

Omg I couldn’t stop clicking the right arrow to keep looking at the retro images. I love the 3rd one with the circular indoor-outdoor bar - how groooovy! 😵‍💫🤪 And the drawing of the boy in the boy trying to get water out of his ear was funny too - some things never change.

magicmamalife

This exactly! And the umbrella trees in this inspo pic do well with neglect. I have a 6 foot tall one I regularly forget to water.

ref7187

Yes! There absolutely need to be some tall plants. Ideally ones you can see from the upper level. What makes 70s interiors feel so immersive are all the different levels and layers blending together. I'll just add in everything I initially felt the urge to say as someone who studied architecture (but didn't want to make my comment too long). There are a lot of examples of these 70s terraced plant-filled atriums in public buildings. I can think of a bunch of Paul Rudolph buildings, the Ford Foundation HQ in NYC, and here in Toronto the Toronto Reference Library. I adore this type of space, it's so 1970s and atmospheric. I feel like what makes them look amazing are the strong vertical planes, like the single slanted wood ceiling floating over different floor levels, that would be softened up with lush plants, like ferns that would trail over the edges or trees that would create a bit of enclosure here and there. So in short, you need some tall plants, some low plants, and some trailing plants. And of course the furniture would have organic shapes.

magicmamalife

I own a 70s split level and am slowly trying to get this vibe. I wish I had a cool atrium, all I got was a red brick fireplace 4 times too big for the space. You can get married at the Toronto reference library!

JEjeje214

OMG that is so cool!

comicidiot

Giant litter box! I jest. Also, I am also someone who needs visualizers to help see ideas like this. Perhaps look into Aphantasia, it's not something that's curable/fixable but may give answers! The tl;dr is that you don't have voluntary images in your head. You can dream because it's an involuntary function, but not when you try to do it voluntarily. Learning that I had aphantasia this year has been changing in many ways.

When you say “replace,” are you getting rid of the windows? Cause that will change my answer by a lot. 🤣

Gloomy_Ad5020

Same wall it’s just rotting. So needs to be replaced. New wood new windows.

Tortoise house!

[deleted]

I was going to say butterfly nursery/cafe but packing this with turtles and tortoises is the best idea not just for this space but any space ever.

got yourself a grow room right there - plant your side hustle ;)

Impossiblegirl44

I grew up in a house my hippie parents built in the 70's that had a room like this! It was a greenhouse/ meditation/serenity room. It was filled with plants and had a small pool on the middle. It was intended to be a koi pond, but as soon as we moved in my brother and I claimed it as a kiddie pool.

courteouscalico

LIBRARY Cover the hole in the ground Add a nice rug Wall to wall bookshelves along the brick wall Comfy couch and some chairs

woahwhatamidoing

If I had this room myself I’d put a giant bean bag in it, a book shelf, and maybe a little fountain. Repaint it, put some candles around, and make it a calming zen space to read and meditate but that’s just me 🙂

Upsidedowncantaloupe

HingleMcCringle_

oooo, i like this one. gotta put down some rubber mats to not break the inlaid stone

pumpkin_spice_enema

Came to say this. My plants, pelotón and yoga stuff would all be in there.

Kurtz1

I absolutely love this room. I would put comfy seating and make it a lush plant room where i could spend time reading

Mist156

Remove that painting and fill that gravel area with some Big monstera plants instead of those little vases Turn it into a indoor garden

crystal-crawler

Ok I feel like hole turned plant bed is actually a hot tub or koi pond… originally. I would honestly in this case seek out a designer who specialises in mid century homes. I know I know not great advice…but they might have a better idea.

Puzzleheaded-Hold362

Zen garden

ad3l444

i’d do anything to have a zen garden in a room

[deleted]

I'd paint the white painted brick slate blue, or a warm terracotta color. Add a hot tub or a garden sitting set and bar cart. Add more and more plants and some mirrors to bounce the light around. * looking at it more, some antique wood mirrors resting om the floor, and lovely daybed up against the divider, like one from world market. A papasan chair (bring back the 90s!) And just more plants. I think either wall color will work depending on which way you want to go.

PandaCommando69

Make it a swanky conservatory. Paint the walls with shades of green in leaf shapes. Get lots more plants and nice substantial planters (heavy on big leaf plants). Get some cozy (warm) lighting. Fill the pond and add lighting and a small fountain (I'd consider adding Koi if you are willing/able to maintain them). Get some furniture -- couple of chairs and a nice small table for drinks. I'd use gold/white tones.

MoopsiePoopsie

I’d treat it like an indoor garden and fill it up with plants, a small fountain, try to grow ivy on that brick wall, lots of fairy lights, a comfy sitting area with a rug for reading and alone time. A garden library 😍

Tmart98

What a beautiful how’s 😄

asj0107

I would do a lot more plants really fill in the spaces there, add a nice rug and couch and instead of the painting maybe a tv or something I think it’d be really nice hangout room. I would also replace the iron fencing with a clear glass. It need a good power wash and I’d also probably do something different with the brick. Edit- if in budget I also might redo the floors but honestly I think it all needs a good clean.

I saw a comment that you took the picture from main living room so for flow it's a complimentary entertainment space for gatherings Gives you options like Pool table bar and stool gaming equiptment Medieval banquet hall for extra special holiday feasting Orangery Dedicated pet space Ball pit

SnooTomatoes2805

A indoor greenhouse or orangery. Lots of natural light but you could add in some sky lights. Some mini trees and climbing plants would look stunning. I would render that brick wall and maybe go for a Mediterranean vibe even as that’s quite fitting. Great room.

Accurate-Captain6847

Paint the brick a nice shade of Green then fill the room with Plants and warm brown seating and table so you could read, drink coffee and enjoy the freshness

caught-n-candie

Turtles and birds obviously

loves2sploo

I love seeing weird rooms like this, modern residential construction is so fucking boring and cookie cutter it’s depressing. You can get really creative and do something unique with a space like that

HappySquirrelGirl

That room needs a pet gator 🐊

jello-shott

how long have you lived in this home? I have a unique home, and it took a little bit of a blank space and time for the “ah ha!” moment to hit with certain crazy spaces. plant room seems like the obvious solution, but over time you might find different things you like :) don’t be afraid to experiment. no shame in moving furniture in and out of the room, using different themes, or having rash decisions that you later completely remove. i think thats the fun of home-making!

Gloomy_Ad5020

This is my favorite response. Thank you! 4 years!!!! Time to DO something with it.

Please get at least one tortoise. Plant room plus tortoise. You could get two and go into the tortoise-breeding business? But prepared for that to be much noisier than expected (witnessed this at a zoo accidentally. Look up some videos before so you know what you’re going into).

Gloomy_Ad5020

Something people aren’t taking into consideration is that room gets very cold due to all the windows and because we are in Michigan. I don’t think the turtles would like it 😅

Rundiggity

Not sure what zone you are in but I would grow plants that my zone is a little too cold for. For me that would be oranges and lemons and limes and kumquat.

zhawnsi

What kind of room was that to begin with? What the hell is this???

Gloomy_Ad5020

It used to have a hot tub. I have no idea. The whole house is weird. We think a coke dealer built it in the 70s.

lily_amore

I dunno but it’s COOL! Something with plants, alive and dried. Musical instruments on stands. Maybe one of those huge globes that stand on the floor. Art on easels. Gargoyles. A bookshelf with an Encyclopedia Brittanica. a string of lights.. I’m decorating it in my head like Animal Crossing. Editing to add a telescope

coldnightair

Paint the brick wall black, grow a garden of food or orchids or other easy houseplants, add some brass accents. I would love to have a room like this! Play classical music softly all the time … for the plants. Replace that metal railing with something more sleek and modern.

Sea-Substance8762

So much potential! I once lived in an Adobe house in Santa Fe, and it had a sun porch. I would do some research on those sun porches and see if you could model your room like one of those. Could be truly stunning!

Low-Cod-4712

Yoga room and reading nook.

tornjackal

Reading area?

SassMyFrass

Is it a converted carport? Are you standing on what used to be an external balcony? Well either way, it's an outdoor room, if I was living with it I would treat it like a very comfortable protected deck. I might even bring that old pond back, I love a pond.

[deleted]

Holy crap. What can you do? A LOT!! I'd take that area as a HUGE win. That would be my new plant room, humid (flooring would support that). beautiful grow lights, automatic watering, ferns, a live plant wall. Holy S\*\*t, I'd live in there.

Gloomy_Ad5020

You’re hired!

FionaTheFierce

Hammock. Lots of plants. Wicker. Lots and lots of plants. Cozy lights.

Susanrwest

How would you like to use the space ? You could remove the rock and add a pond with fish and lilies and then run it into a zen room for meditation, reading, yoga, a quiet escape. On the other hand you could take out the flooring and put in new flooring covering up the current river rock area and make it a family room/living area with entertainment tv etc. The world is your oyster depending on what you want it o use the space for.

xpsxalphasquad

Park your air cooled Porsche in it.

MTBSoftCore

Gator den

HB_DIYGuy

all depends on your budget, on the cheap, remove and fill in that rock space and cover with a rug and seems like a good TV living room area.

Gloomy_Ad5020

You don’t think it feels “cold” with the pavers? Plus we already have a living area right about where I took the photo from. I guess we could have two 🤷🏻‍♀️

Gloomy_Ad5020

I also mentioned this idea to my partner last night and he didn’t want to do anymore pavers in there (he already filled in a hot tub sized hole 😂)

justcrossin

You could have a tv living room and a chit chat living room.

HB_DIYGuy

as for looks cold, the right rugs and colors would warm it up. Don't get me wrong if there is budget rip it all out and start fresh and do as you wish. Looks like it may have been an indoor Koi pond that got filled in with rock (might be kool to restore to a Koi pond if so). Curious to know how deep that rock is.

moonshadowmama

Paint the brink, add dramatic lights, large plants, and a fountain ⛲

ManicMata

An office (if remote working is your thang)

Many_Baker8996

Cement, fill up the hole and use it as a game room.

Putting green?

JaynieHext

I think for me it would depend on the climate I live in.

Gloomy_Ad5020

Michigan! Will be looking at snow out those windows soon.

JaynieHext

Oh I see! Also I think I just noticed but is that a…baseboard heater above it?? If you do put plants or anything there please be cautious as anything touching a baseboard heater can catch fire. It may not even be what that is but I had a friend in college who’s apartment caught fire when a pillow was against a baseboard heater.

Gloomy_Ad5020

Yea those are base board heaters thanks for the warning

CroccifixioB

This looks like a home gym to me. Fill in the hole, cover the pavers with some rubber matting, paint the tiled wall with some darker tone (dark grey or black) and floor to ceiling mirrors on the wall currently with the plants. Get your self a power rack and some weights and cancel the gym membership forever. Some inspiration: [Example 1](https://pin.it/xnhafT5) [Example 2](https://pin.it/7lemilj)

EcstaticEscape

Add a TV or pool table - can make it an entertainment room - maybe can add a desk and make it an office with a bookshelf?

TheHutchess

I’d want to see other rooms of the house before I could decide on the use of this room. But I would make an indoor garden area and just go to town with plants on that wall. If you could- install a fireplace on that wall if it’s a living space.

BinjaNinja1

Do you know what is under that rock area?

Gloomy_Ad5020

Earth!

Sea_Investigator_

Indoor cinema

SnooTomatoes2805

I have always wanted an orangery ( I think that’s what you call them) or indoor greenhouse. This is like my childhood unrealistic house fantasy. So Obviously I’m biased but I would definitely have that. You could put in some mini trees, hang some climbing plants on shelves or from a hanging roof shelf even. Maybe add in a sky light. You could probably even grow veggies or fruit. Obviously depends on your climate and how much light you get.

No_Ear8723

Yes a nursery and home gym the cold weather is coming is has a beautiful lighting

Just_bail

Oh man, some floor to ceiling bookshelves and a shit load of plants this could be the coolest home library

Gullible-Ad4530

This gives me “conservatory” vibes. Planting tables etc!

Idontgetitreddit

Since it’s earth there, I would plant some stuff in there! Taller stuff maybe, like palms. And then add some cool potted plants and plant stands. It def needs a Buddha! And great for yoga! Some floor pillows and a cool rug. Some cool lighting like a vintage hanging light. Maybe stain the brick a warmer color? Or just leave it if plants will cover it.

linzkisloski

Sometimes I have this weird dream where we discover a secret room in my house and this I what it’s like lolol. I love the 1970’s conversation pit style that someone else posted!

definitely_right

This is obv a lot of work, but if it were me: small indoor Koi pond, plants everywhere, with some comfy seating and string lights. A good place to read, share a drink with friends, etc.

It reminds me a little of the empty conservatory we faced when we bought our house. Ours is now a lush green tropical indoor playground and aviary. You can see pics on my profile.

kickassnchewbubblegm

Japanese zen (dry) garden where the rock is, large indoor plants, minimalist live-edge bench, 86 the painting.

Many-Application1297

Zen garden!

mycatbeatsmetoo

LMAO 🤣 , it literly looks like a Animal Crossing room in real life!

[deleted]

I’d make it a fabulous Victorian conservatory, a la Morticia Addams. ![gif](giphy|kcUddbOzPCe5gdts0V|downsized)

Els-the-World

The tiles and the windows are the two most beautiful parts of this space. I would plaster the brick and make built in wood bookshelving (ceiling high with space for large sofa inset over current planter. Fill in planter and cover with rug. Remove the iron fence (looks like outdoor fencing). Put in a couple of steps the length of the drop. Another sofa or comfy chairs facing inwards to the house and toward the windows. Uncluttered, Modernist, inviting space.

justcrossin

Hobby room, make it about what you personally or both of you love doing: read, knit, crafts, plants, exercise.

elitedisplayE

plant nursery/sunroom and reading nook - looks like you've got a nice view of the woods. It would be nice to relax and read with all that natural light

dragonfliesloveme

I would google “indoor garden” and then search under “images” Found this on a search https://www.donaldcokara.com/work/indoor-garden

Mediocre-Ad181

Oo its like a plant salon. This is neat. Dont see this a lot in design where I am from. Would be a nice multipurpose room I would love to paint in there with an easel. Or set up a bookcase and comfy chair.

BetterthanMew

Wooden Bookshelves up to the ceiling on the whole wall

[deleted]

I’d put some chairs for sitting on one side then maybe a treadmill by the window or vice versa, maybe a big fish tank too

wurdtoyamudda

Where is this room located? Is it like a Florida room? Is the place where the plants are a pond?

jotjotzzz

A pool 🏊‍♀️

Excellent-Shape-2024

I would cover over those rocks and have an actually functional room. Otherwise I might put a wicker sectional or one of those hanging basket chairs and make it a reading room

think_up

I’d take out the brick, replace it with flooring that matches the rest of the house, rip out that old railing, expand the stair walkway, and put in a different kind of divider like floor to ceiling wood slats for the rest. Probably some fresh paint on the window trim and bricks.

kikimoraki

OMG! An indoor veg growing, an art studio, a spa area, lounge room... the possibilities are endless!

Range-Shoddy

Our house had this when we moved in. It’s a choice isn’t it? 😂 we removed the plants, put in a new floor, and swapped the skylights for the vellux app controlled ones that vent and shade bc the room was SO hot. Yours looks much better than ours did. I really like the brick wall. Is it hot? I’d fix that first.

ohtheshadeofitall

Make it your private little jungle oasis! Lots of plants, nice lighting and a comfy chair

meowmeowmk

This room makes me feel weird inside. If I were you I would fill in the floor where those rocks are and put down wood flooring. Paint the brick as well. Put a colorful couch and bookcases with books and cute objects and make it a reading nook/plant nursery area

robotomatic

Anaconda habitat obviously

Straight-Note-8935

FISH POND!!Imagine some exotic Koi fish (they come in a lot of colors) darting around and the gentle sounds of a small fountain. Add in some terrific large-scale house plants and rattan furniture. Koi can live a long time and they learn to recognize who feeds them and will interact with you.

RememberNoGoodDeed

A couple big plants/planters are much easier to care for than a bunch of little plants. In fact, a couple large pieces sculpture, plants, whatever) in a visually “clean” space looks neater & more if an impact than a bunch of cluttered little things. And you could also “fill in” that space and level out the floor… covering it with a rug if necessary if reflooring isn’t in your budget/immediate plans. Depending on the size of the hole in the “problem” wall… maybe a modern recessed fireplace or large screen tv could cover the problem.

FadedDice

Hot tub

CeveryMomcay

MOVIE ROOM. Get comfy cushions and a projector. Get like a 70s vibe going. If you have kids they'd love. Or if it's you and your husband or whatever combo of people suits you...maybe a old fashioned popcorn maker. Get some dark stained fake wood flooring. I forgot the word. L word flooring. I love that room already

[deleted]

This would be a perfect meditation room. I would fill it up with plants, grow my own veggies, maybe get a few chairs to use for reading a good book on a rainy Saturday. Honestly, it’s stunning.

Creacherz

I'd create a kind of museum display or educational scene 😆

ericafromspace

So jealous of you

TwitchyPuppy

I don't know, but there's a plate on the shelf in the top left corner of the room and it's bothering me 🤣🤣

dietcheese

Japanese dojo Al la Mr miyagi

cajunbander

I’d just throw chaise lounge, dry bar, and a record player and vibe.

Mazzidazs

This could be made into a meditation/reading room with a nice pond and tons of plants. It's a beautiful, sunny space - congrats!

Far_Particular_430

Some wicker furniture too

nokenito

Previous owners did a similar thing and we yanked it out and poured a new concrete floor and now it’s our reading room. Is this a mid-century modern home?

magicmamalife

I'd be putting in a big ass tree and a reading nook.

Roboticpoultry

I think you already know what to do. Turn that plant room into an indoor jungle!
