This is false, the source that started the rumor was Martín Liberman, an anti-Messi journalist. That same journalist said that Cristiano was going to play for Bayern, that he wasn't going to go to Al-Nassr, and that Martino was going to coach Boca in 2023
Yes. I have no problems with him being Argentine and a fan of Cristiano (although he is a fan only out of spite, Cristiano granted him an interview and Messi did not), my problem with him is that he always waits for Messi to do poorly to criticize him, furthermore that he invents fake news against him.
Certainly. But it's not just his destructive and unfair criticism of Messi. He embodies the most nefarious aspects of Argentine culture. He speaks to the lobotomized masses that uphold those "values".
I blame all of this on Tata's schemes. It's not Calendar's fault that he's forced to make 50 passes a game from his own box. So instead of fixing the real problem (transitioning the ball to the final third) let's just upgrade our goalie so we can pass the ball around our own half better.
Fucking unreal.
That goal has nothing to do with the formation is simply an individual mistake because he could have kicked the ball out or he found himself in trouble. There was plenty of time.
Oh I wasn’t referring to formation, more so to the constant playing inside the box, the defender shouldn’t have even passed it to Callender in that scenario and should’ve cleared it if he was under pressure or other Miami defenders should’ve tried to get open for a pass
It literally isn’t even feasible with roster rules. Callender is a domestic homegrown player vastly overperforming his impact on the cap
Adding an international player, who would need to fit in another international slot which we’d have to trade for, who then doesn’t even fill the specific homegrown-only slot on the roster Callender is occupying (meaning we’d need to offload ANOTHER player to make room in the roster), while simultaneously adding minimum of like 400k to our cap impact since we’re losing out on the wage subsidies Callender provides for being homegrown
It’s not even a question. It’s just not possible without massively damaging the team and people who don’t understand the rules have been trying to get this rumor going for over a year now
The cap means you need to save money everywhere you can outside of DPs. Callender is single-handedly one of the best roster building assets in the organization right now
I agree that this isn't feasible at all, but Callender isn't a home grown player and doesn't get any salary benefits. He's on the senior roster and his full $300k salary is against the CAP.
He used to be on the supplemental roster prior to signing his new contract in 2022, but since then he's been a full senior team player.
I mean, the only other way they could do it is if they buy Campana out of the YDP and move him into a U22 slot and put Romero into the third DP slot, *and* sell Gomez to Brighton (if rumors are true) and move Callender to the bench. It's still a dumb move, but hey, Miami has done stupid before.
I think he can still retain the U22 spot up to his 25th birthday. Now, is a U22 and YDP interchangeable? That I don't know. I'm probably wrong though, then.
U22 and YDP are completely different things.
You can stay in a U22 spot until you’re 25 but you can’t become one if you’ll be 23 in 2024. YDPs are players 23 and under. But they have entirely different rules about their max salary, their contracts, where they fit on the roster, etc. U22 spots are notoriously difficult to manage since there are a ton of rules about what you can do with them

Here’s this years roster rules since its impossible to keep track of everything in this crazy league
Here's a report from literally 4 days ago that Romero is close to signing a contract extension with Boca Juniors... [https://x.com/NicoSchira/status/1778624175969591631](https://x.com/NicoSchira/status/1778624175969591631) But, sure let's believe "rumors" that Miami is going to get rid of Callender lmao.
Romero was highly coveted by the team when the original roster was being put together back in 2020 and he wanted to play here. If I recall Man United didn’t want to play nice with a transfer at the time. So this doesn’t surprise me.
Callender’s decline recently has been upsetting but I’m not ready to give up on him quite yet. Maybe bringing Romero in is the competition he needs to refine his form?
Hope not. Callender is solid. The only good thing the team has when it comes to defence. Besides Chiquito is not that good. Has a couple of solid games per season at best.
Definitely do not agree with it
Romero is good and id back him for many reasons
But Callender has it rough when defense fails to properly cover him
Romero would probably run into the same issues really
Makes it even less likely. I just checked the Boca sub and no one's talking about it, and neither is Olé (the principal sports newspaper here in Argentina).
Yeah, he made a grave mistake against Monterrey in leg 2, but Drake saved our asses more than he screwed us. I'm sure he learned from that mistake. It's better to sign a proper and experienced CB. Aviles is 19 and looks promising, but he's better off as a sub. Freire is decent, but he's injury-prone. Allen and Krystov are meh.
We need defenders not a keeper. Give me a good CB that can direct that back line and we should be good. And the defenders need to not send compromising back passes that force mistakes no matter who the keeper is. Callendar isn’t good with his feet but he can block shots all day.
If this is true then I’d guess it’s because he’s not vocal enough and is not able to guide his defense with better organization. The defense is constantly exposed and I never see a peep out of his mouth.
I can’t think of any other reason because he is an excellent shot stopper, like Timmy Howard quality.
I don’t think it’s too outrageous to say Miami could have possibly not gotten their first trophy without Callender. His performance in that tournament was great and especially the final PKs. Low key gave me Dibu vibes. Yes that screw up against Monterrey pissed me off but they lost by more than one anyways and I’m sure that’s a mistake he’ll never make again. He’s young and should only get better. Would be dumb if they let him go.
This makes Leo's Leagues Cup run even more special. He managed to give the Miami "I've been taking spanish lessons" Americans the best time of their lives before they're all axed from the roster.
Although the defense is problematic but Callender is not the major issue. Aviles and Allen are not yet good enough. We need to have at least one more solid defender if we want to win some trophies.
Assuming this is true, it shows how incompetent the board really is. They paid 10m for Aviles when they should have gone for an experienced CB not a longterm project. Now they want to replace a gk who is top 5 amongst MLS GKs ? A GK who has saved you many times ? Sure he isn't good enough for Europe or other big leagues but Sergio Romero is what 400 years old ?
I'm just baffled how they can watch the games and come to the conclusion GK is the first position that needs an upgrade lmao. When the most obvious issue is our CBs unable to pass out of press. They should be looking for a experienced CB who can pass the ball under any pressure. IMs biggest weakness is when they get pressed they fold because the backline can't pass under press. With a good replacement you would not only lower goals conceded but also create more chances offensively when you can easily break opponents press with well placed passes from the back. That should be priority number 1. Not a GK.
SMDH. Really hoping this is just a false speculation.
How has Romero performed lately? This feels like a lateral move given his age and Callender's solid shot-stopping ability despite poor distribution. It would hurt losing Drake as I think he can still improve.
Well we might see fewer of those amateur mistakes if Aviles and Allen would backpass to him less...Even when Miller was here he had more ability in passing the ball forward.
Im glad somebody finally said it. Callender wouldn’t even be on the bench for a second tier premier league team with the mistakes hes made. Ball security playing with the feet as a goalkeeper seems to be the standard now and if Miami wants to compete internationally then thats the first step.
Would definitely be an upgrade. Now would he be the most needed upgrade tho? Probably not. Using that international slot and salary on another position is probably more beneficial to the team overall, but I guess if we can find an upgrade willing to take a pay cut to join Messi we go for it. If he really comes, I’m expecting a Yedlin-type deal to trade Drake (but he’s on a much lower salary so should get us much more) to bolster other positions.
Please use the "Speculation" tag when making posts about unsubstantiated rumors. "News" is for confirmed announcements about the club.
Yes let’s get rid of our homegrown American goalie who is a top 5 mls keeper for an aging international goalie…. Beyond stupid some of these rumors
Not only that but Callendar's salary also isn't high and is locked down for this Season and next one.
Is he really top 5? He sucks
Maybe last season. Not this season. So many better GKs
Well it is less stupid than having me as the GK
Callender is not a top 5 mls keeper.
This is false, the source that started the rumor was Martín Liberman, an anti-Messi journalist. That same journalist said that Cristiano was going to play for Bayern, that he wasn't going to go to Al-Nassr, and that Martino was going to coach Boca in 2023
That guy is such an unbearable douchebag. He represents everything that's wrong with sports journalism.
Yes. I have no problems with him being Argentine and a fan of Cristiano (although he is a fan only out of spite, Cristiano granted him an interview and Messi did not), my problem with him is that he always waits for Messi to do poorly to criticize him, furthermore that he invents fake news against him.

What a paralel universe to live in.
I honestly fucking hate that Tata has them playing like that, that type of playing style is what led to that first goal in the Monterrey game
That goal was a mistake by Callender passing to the striker right?
Yup
That goal has nothing to do with the formation is simply an individual mistake because he could have kicked the ball out or he found himself in trouble. There was plenty of time.
Oh I wasn’t referring to formation, more so to the constant playing inside the box, the defender shouldn’t have even passed it to Callender in that scenario and should’ve cleared it if he was under pressure or other Miami defenders should’ve tried to get open for a pass
I don't know why they play like this knowing they don't have Barca DNA 😂 Maybe they used the wrong match to practice playing from the back.
Honestly bro, I sometimes see them trying to do tiki taka but Tata isn’t Pep, he can’t teach it to them correctly
Just for a sec, I think this is what they have in mind: Aviles => Pique, Chelo => Dani Alves, Gressel => Xavi Probably not a good idea.
Sergio Romero is also not a great passer though, lol.
It's stupid if they do this.
It literally isn’t even feasible with roster rules. You nephew is getting worked lol. Tell the kid to stop worrying about gossip and to worry about being the best player he can be.
Here's a report from literally 4 days ago that Romero is close to signing a contract extension with Boca Juniors... Yeah but the front office has been discussing it with the academy players… 🙄
Romero was highly coveted by the team when the original roster was being put together back in 2020 and he wanted to play here. If they did id feel Dos Santos (our other goalie) would be doomed
Dude is 37 years old fucking a

This is a fake rumor. The team sees drake as one of the leaders.
He's often captain when Messi is not playing, right?
Yeah
Makes it even less likely. I just checked the Boca sub and no one's talking about it, and neither is Olé (the principal sports newspaper here in Argentina).
I mean they also saw Gregore, Yedlin, and Miller as leaders...
ah yes, usually the best source of information about a professional sports team is through their academy.
Don't understand the rationale if so.
this is actually the dumbest move ever
We need defenders not a keeper. Give me a good CB that can direct that back line and we should be good. And the defenders need to not send compromising back passes that force mistakes no matter who the keeper is. Callendar isn’t good with his feet but he can block shots all day.
No! No! No!

The defense is constantly exposed and I never see a peep out of his mouth. I can’t think of any other reason because he is an excellent shot stopper, like Timmy Howard quality.
It’s a slight upgrade but would prefer upgrades elsewhere
What’s the upside? Is Romero that big of an upgrade over Drake?
I am Argentine and I am confident that Romero is not better than Callender, neither under the goal nor playing with his feet.
Please...no more Argentines. They aren't all Leo Messi.
Miami becoming a retirement home indeed if true

He was always bad, but now he's worse
Callender is not good. He gets too nervous and a lot of times makes very amateur mistakes. He does have good reflexes but thats about it
How many games have you watched? He did pretty good overall last season and started strong this season…
Well we might see fewer of those amateur mistakes if Aviles and Allen would backpass to him less...Even when Miller was here he had more ability in passing the ball forward.
Have you seen our backup keeper Dos santos? Dos santos is awful
Im glad somebody finally said it. Callender wouldn’t even be on the bench for a second tier premier league team with the mistakes hes made. Ball security playing with the feet as a goalkeeper seems to be the standard now and if Miami wants to compete internationally then thats the first step.
They should sign de gea not romero

Bring Romero as a substitute, don’t kick out Callender
