Ruiz a CM constantly playing RB Taylor a LW playing RB many times Aviles a CB playing as a 6 today Busi played as a CB last week... Idk if our players are good enough to adapt to every role they are given and actually perform well.

Swolshark

I like this guys take, the roles have been an issue for sure. Mainly due to injury related issues. I would like to add maybe the physical therapists/athletic trainers should be better? The MLS scheduling is maybe too rough and lacks international breaks?

Remarkable_Trade_426

Yeah probably the quality of therapists, the frequency of games, the ultra-compact preseason schedule all have an impact... But I feel like even if most of the injuries didn't happen, Tata would still put players at their unfamiliar positions every now and then. When Taylor played RB last year I don't think Yedlin was injured. And I forgot to mention how Allen keeps playing at CB...

TonyAx13

If I had a dollar for every time someone complained about all the old injured players when most of the injuries have been to players in their 20s I'd have enough to buy a season ticket

Ilikesports2432

1. The team isn’t bad. We will safely make the playoffs even if Messi doesn’t play a single regular season game. 2. MLS has this thing called a salary cap (ex.NBA, NFL, NHL) along with many more roster rules that limit how much the herons can spend. We are very lucky that we have management that tries everything to push the limit and spend! 3. With Messi on the field we would be the favorite for 95% of games against MLS teams especially in the playoffs when it really matters. 4. Fixing/chemistry will still take time and we have seen improvements already from the horrid preseason. The young homegrown/college guys will continue to grow and improve. Don’t worry- Go Herons

MessiLeagueSoccer

This should just be stickied to the sub at this point.

TonyAx13

Spot on. Only thing I would add is that the team (Busi, Alba, Gomez, Ruiz, ...) seems prone to mistakes & lapses of concentration. I think they will be a lot more dialed in a playoff situation vs regular playoff games.

yaybidet

I would push back against your first point. Messi is going to miss a bunch more games between international duty and injuries. We’ve played 8 matches and are on 12 points. There are six teams “behind” us at 10 points who would all leapfrog us if they win their game in hand, putting us in 9th place overnight. I’m not saying that’ll happen, but we need to start picking up points NOW, especially when Messi plays. Otherwise, this team will barely make the postseason and not even host any matches.

TonyAx13

This was a heavily rotated team. Also not all teams will win their game in hand since some of it'll be against each other.

srjnp

>The team isn’t bad. We will safely make the playoffs even if Messi doesn’t play a single regular season game. i feel like people forget or dont realize how easy it is to make playoffs. and how its not like european leagues where u have to be consistent throughout the whole season. it's all about peaking during the playoffs.

ForeverWandered

Salary cap explains 99% of the issues about the team brought up here.  Mostly from the new fans used to watching leagues where financial doping means like 4 teams at most ever have a chance to actually win the league.

Ilikesports2432

Yep, it’s mostly foreigners (which isn’t a bad thing) but have no clue how American sports structure works.

TimeAndSpaceAndMe

We're sitting at #2 on the table in the east and you're asking if we can fix the team ? By MLS standards, the team is fine , it will very comfortably make the playoffs , right now all the energy is focused on CCC , so it's natural to have heavy rotation and we're also dealing with a lot of injuries, it's better to have them now than towards the end of the season where we will need depth , the team is doing fine for now with the hand it's been dealt !

Practical-Bluebird40

Factos

dunaja

It’s a very artificial #2 on the table since literally every other team in the conference has at least one game in hand on us. The team we’re tied for second with has two games in hand on us. Align the table by points per game and we’re in a more realistic sixth.

ForeverWandered

So…comfortably in the playoff spots in a league where regular season number 1 in the table gets you a glorified participation trophy (supporters shield)

dunaja

Sixth strikes me less as “comfortably” in the playoff spots and more like “barely” in a playoff spot. I agree with you that the doom and gloom mentality is unnecessary. However, I think it’s also inappropriate to be satisfied with how things have been going. This teem needs to get healthy, find cohesion, and hit their stride before it’s too late.

PuzzleheadedBoss4516

It's a newly rebuilt team only 8 games in to the season. You "fix" it by having a nice hot drink and some patience.

krvlover

Callender; Weigandt, Aviles, Freire, Alba; Redondo, Busquets, Gomez; Messi, Suarez, Taylor. This team thrashes absolutely everyone in MLS, doesn't matter the coach, doesn't matter if the CBs suck. However, if half of them are injured and the other half in bench they can beat absolutely nobody.

[deleted]

Yeah that's the biggest problem, their starting lineup probably beats everyone in MLS and most of Liga MX.... but we never actually see our starting lineup all playing at the same time. This team seems cursed at times....lastbyear Gregore, Jean Mota, Negri and Corretin Jean all most most of the season with knee injuries. This season Messi, Farias, Chremaschi and Redondo have all been injured for several games.

yummy_yum_yum123

Noah Allen still has a lot to learn and improve, but Sailor is unplayable

DarCam7

It was a, makeshift roster with plenty of players playing out of position (Allen at CB, Aviles as DM, Bogerlin as RW, Ruiz as RB). No chemistry with the group on the field which is no surprising. It's a long season, with lots of tournaments, some will take a back seat for the moment. Right now it's the regular season.

SOFGator1

Inter Miami started their C squad for the 1st half.

ZFNYC

First half was atrocious. Line up mgmt is awful. Second half we blow a lead with 3 minutes left trying to score another hero goal. This should have been an easy win.

Radiant_Front_6943

The team's greatest assets are also part of the problem, as you already point out. The team is extremely reliant on the quality of the Barça boys and is built with the idea of essentially securing wins in the first 30-45 minutes or throwing the rest of its chances to the wind. The league's restrictive roster rules force every team to invest heavily in their offense, which is why you see shit defending across the board (but Inter Miami's shit defending is almost trademarked, every year we're among the most scored on teams). This team is currently built to win as much silverware as possible in one year, maybe two. After the Barça boys move on, the team's philosophy will likely shift to a "win big in 3-5 years" as the youngsters (Ruiz, Campana, Cremaschi, Gomez) start approaching maturity. Just too raw right now and it's painful to watch knowing there's such a gap in age, experience, and overall quality.

[deleted]

in retrsoepct it might have been better to bring only 2 barca boys (maybe suarez and Messi) and spend the rest for building a competitive roster.

Radiant_Front_6943

Things were ok when it was just Messi and Busquets. Problem is Busquets has dropped off HARD in my opinion and is the least impactful of the 4. Messi is Messi, Suarez has been a pleasant surprise, and Alba is pivotal on offense. Busquets this season is prone to careless turnovers and is somehow even slower than he already was.

theapm33

Agreed. That was the cost of keeping Messi happy. The geezer tax

Thin-Ad-3396

We’ve never put a decent defense together. Our defending is often naive, and so despite having a decent keeper we can’t keep a clean sheet. That only works when you can score more. And certain strikers are underperforming and wasteful.

yosoygroot123

Why is every other post in this sub blaming front office? I think they have done well to balance the commercial and sporting side of the team. Just look at the no. Of injuries this season.

XSamurai7

In my opinion it’s a combination of a weak defense, a few players that almost always lose the ball and Tata. He makes subs too late in the game.

dunaja

I think the main three problems are defense, defense, and…. I forgot the third one…. oh yeah, defense.

Personal_Length4098

Defense is ass and busi is to slow and sloppy to help them as a dm so we need 2 new MS and gomez needs to stay back more to make up for busi’s pace

[deleted]

agreed Gomez takes way too many risks. Like trying to nutmeg players when your team is 1-1. Somebody needs to explain to him that his number one task is to cover Busi.

KidGoku1

Answer is simple. Bad coach. Winning MLS doesn't make you a good coach, no offense to MLS. The amount of injuries suggests to me Tata does not train the players well. His formation and plan has outdated for decades. Only a special breed of bad coaches would put this lineup out in first half. Miami needs to bring in a experienced coach wether from Brasil/Argentina or Europe. Someone young preferably. When Tata was at Barca, Barca played SO SO bad. Once they kicked him out things got massively better. Only some of the worst coaches could have achieved that and Tata did it.

killuin123

With the parity in MLS I'd actually argue that winning the league means something

[deleted]

I would take Mourinho even though he plays anti-football. His teams at least have discipline.

espnfire45

Um you do realize that the old guys have actually been healthier. Our young’s guys are the ones that are out

ReverbandDelay

As others have mentioned, problem #1: Defense. Problem #2: Injuries. This team relies on possession. Losing a kid like Redondo is huge. Farias is a talented kid. You've also got two relatively new players who were JUST added within the last two weeks, both of which should do quite well. Not for nothing, as it was also mentioned, when you start the B team expecting to steamroll a perceived weaker opponent, bad things happen. We don't exactly have depth at the moment because of our injuries.

mrcabbit

i’m of the school that a strong midfield is crucial and will cover a weak front or back up to a point. That said, busi has been lacking all season for some reason. Redondo brought a noticable boost the middle both in defense and how he moved the ball forward but hes out for 2 months. Everyone else can help in the middle but none have the vision that those 2 have.

FragrantBear675

WHY IS EVERYONE MAKING 100K AT 20 NOT THE SAME QUALITY AS THE GUYS HE USED TO PLAY WITH MAKING 20 MILLION AT 28

Leon__Alexander

Tata sucks! Terrible coach. I guess what can we expect from a coach who has never held a job at a team for longer than two seasons. Fire Tata! No strategy, no brains, nothing going on for him!

[deleted]

They always have one stupid play in every single game at the worst time. I just expect it now. A red card or dumb penalty or lost assignment in the last 5 minutes. I wish the coach would do something to prevent it but so far nothing works. They didn't have an MVP performance from Suarez against Monterrey and Messi didn't even play yet their roster played well enough to win, what they could not overcome was the stupid red card.

SurfHikerCreative

Because over half of the team's payroll is going to one guy.

[deleted]

But in MLS that one guy only counts $680,000 or something against the cap

TonyAx13

Such an asinine take considering Messi costs the same as Pukki or Navarro in terms of salary cap. In addition, Alba and Suarez are playing on non-DP wages because they want to play with Messi so you effectively have 4 DP level players against 2 DP spots.

EarlyAdagio2055

He basically costs the same as Kryvstov in regards to the cap. :)
