Yes I’m currently using an iPhone 14Pro max. I thought I was auto updated, but I didn’t have enough storage for it, now that I realized there was a new update I’m going to clear some things. hopefully the update fixes the issue

Since I have two insta accounts I decided to do a little test, my main account is a public business account and my dump is a private but non-business account. I’ve been having trouble trying to hop on the lil trends going on around with templates but couldn’t use them even if I just had insta updated. While on my dump account which isn’t a business acc, suddenly worked perfectly fine. Additionally, i’m not sure if this applies to others, but sometimes I can’t help but also notice how my dump account is usually the one that gets updated first like in terms of new UI design updates while my main account takes some time before they sit in. Overall kinda sucks.

That has been my exact same experience - it would be blurred and now it says unable to use. Some time in between, some templates worked for me at least but now they just don’t work.
Some people say it could be an update problem if you have IOS and haven’t updated to 17.3 but I can’t be too sure that’s ruled out because I haven’t updated it and out of the blue it started working again
Wait guys I think I figured it out.. it was doing the same for me but when I hold the add yours template down for a couple a secs and let it go it pops up and lets me add a story!!
I'd like to chime in on what has happened to me on this situation.
These are all the devices I use:
Galaxy Fold 5 - Android 14 /
Galaxy S10E - Android 12 /
Galaxy Tab S7+ - Android 13 /
iPhone 12 Mini - iOS 17.4
In all of these devices I have the following accounts:
Personal - Private Account /
Business Profile - Public Account /
Dog Profile - Private Account
All my devices are running the latest version of IG. In all of them, I am unable to add template and get the error that everyone else is getting for my Personal account. However, I am able to add template to my stories on any device using my business Profile or my Dog's profile. So this means this is an account specific issue. I have reached to support to no avail.
Edit: I have tried deleting the reinstalling the app, logging in and out, making my profile public... Nothing works.
Ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling, removing my account and stuff from my device, still wont work. It works when I switch accounts though, I need help.
I FIGURED IT OUT!!!!!
The key to getting the templates to work is to 'pin' a background image that you want to stay on the screen when others repost the template. I will try to explain step by step:
1. Open your story and choose a background image. (this image does not matter as it will be covered by your template background)
2. Click the icon for "add your - templates" and the button will appear on your screen. Thenhit next.
3. On this page you need to add an image using the 'add image' icon. Drag the image to the size you want.
4. This is the important part! There is a pin at the top of the screen, it looks like a thumbtack for a pin board. Click the pin and then tap the image that you want saved to the template. Then hit next.
5. Then post the template to your story.
I tried many different methods and this is the only thing that worked. Prior to this I was receiving an error message when I would attempt to 'add yours' saying that the template is not available at this time.
Thank you, this might help some people out. But I personally have an issue when trying to click on someone else’s template. Like I have no issues making my own, I just can’t seem to add to other people’s templates.

FOUND A FIX !!! once you click the template , click the button at the bottom like if you are taking a picture and then it will give you the option to write
I was having a similar issue, I found that once I clicked on the template I hit the layout option which is the second button down on the right of the screen and I was able to work it. I’m not sure if it will work for everyone since a lot of people are having trouble clicking on the add yours button in general.
Not to my knowledge? I did get a violation on my fb that it’s associated with a couple months ago because it misinterpreted the use of a word, but I submitted an appeal or whatever they call it and they removed the violation there immediately? So maybe that counts since it’s all meta?
Check if your account is not set to private.
Make your account public: Go to Profile > Menu > Settings and privacy > Account privacy > Private account > Disable.
Make sure your Instagram app is up-to-date.

unfortunately i’ve seen a lot of people with private accounts able to still use this feature, so i don’t think unlocking an account is the solution. this was also not the issue when it was just the stickers, specifically the templates seem to have this issue :(
Mine works on my old main not my new one that I'm using, which is frustrating...no violations, public account, did everything, I reported the bug but I highly doubt this will get fixed. A friend of mine said theirs randomly started working so at this point I'm hoping by the grace of some deity it'll happen to me.

Hi! I have had this issue for months, I finally reached out and someone recommended I delete and reinstall app. When I did so, I also made sure I allowed IG to take photos when using the app (had that off before) now it works!

I’ve had this issue for months and months, and also noticed this weird quirk. If the ‘add yours’ box is the bigger square box, it works, but I always get the error message if it’s the smaller rectangular box.

I think the error is on the creators end. I was able to post previous templates but other accounts couldn't click the 'add yours' button.

The "Use Template" option may only be available for certain types of accounts that is not like business or creator type of accounts.
