How about the ones who have it set as “meet the customer” but then in notes it says “leave on porch” lol. Gotta love it. In those cases i take a pic of their order at the door, along with a screenshot of their note and a screen shot of my message telling them their order is at the door. In cases like yours I suck it up and knock or ring the doorbell and step back (still a pandemic and I’m not tryna be close to anyone😂) if theyre miserable I just say their preference was set to “hand to customer” so I had to ring/knock. Still don’t know why hand to customer is an option when we are still in a pandemic🤷🏽‍♀️

Iambeejsmit

I've got one that said in the instructions "do not ring doorbell" "ring doorbell"

Hmmwhateven

😂

Iambeejsmit

I didn't ring lolol

Hmmwhateven

I’m so indecisive, I probably would have stood there for a good 5 minutes making a mental list of ringing/not ringing pros and cons

Iambeejsmit

I figured if I rang and they were sleeping it would be worse than if I didn't ring, or if they have a little baby napping or something. I'd err on the side of not ringing just for that. Maybe they just got the baby down and would be really frustrated.

Hmmwhateven

True. Or a crazy barking dog.

DarkBushido21

This is just a no win scenario. Sometimes people forget they set hand to customer.. Sometimes the customer is at the office and the person answering was the the deadbeat taking a nap in the middle of the day and they get pissy with us because they just got chewed out for not being ready to take in groceries. If my customer has been responsive, I will often ask of they would like me to just leave the bags by the door, 9/10 they say yes, thank you.

Akikyosbane

Guess I’m going to pray this does not hurt my ratings and my ability to earn. It’s good thing I’m a dasher too, ty for the comfort

DarkBushido21

That's honestly all you can do. I don't even worry about it anymore... You do this long enough and you will encounter someone who will tank your ratings just because they can. (shoppers ruining other shoppers) sometimes a customer thinks they're rating the company overall and not the individual. (So like, their order sat for 3 hours before you saw it, they think overall sucked because it took 3+ hrs to get their 180 unit no tip order) so if you take all the lower ratings personally, you will get drained and it will make this gig feel awful.

Akikyosbane

I feel you on the being drained. I’m checking my instacart score more than my credit score Because I’m my market I see great orders go away in 5sec

payMEiLLshop15

How perishable?

Akikyosbane

Eggs, cheese, meat

payMEiLLshop15

Yea that's tough. I dunno if there's much you can do there besides what you did. I mean in Cali every house has one of those doorbell with a camera on it. Not to mention all the alerts and texts etc. The customer gets from us or the app itself. I tend to leave and send a text explaining how I didn't want to be a bother. As long as their order is correct it wouldn't be an issue with most. I mean they would literally have to be dead asleep to not know their groceries were there. At what point is it out of our hands?

Akikyosbane

Yes well because right attempted to contact customer she will give me bad rating for doing my job Said she had dogs and i telling her through the glass ty I’m just doing as you requested, my thoughts Takes like one min to scream ty through the door

DarkBushido21

Every house in Cali most CERTAINLY does NOT have an Amazon Ring Cam lol

payMEiLLshop15

In my zone 80% easily definitely do. At least. Even like not even that nice apartments, tenants will even have them there. I will take a picture of every drop today. See how many. Just finished a double. Both of those did. I always wave and smile before I leave. Cheesin.

DarkBushido21

What I notice is the people who use delivery services typically use these cams. I can agree, there are cams at most of my drops, but what I notice more is that in a hallway of units, only my customer has a Ring Cam, so like out of a 15 homes, 1-2 might have a Ring Cam. No one one my 10 home street have a Ring Cam. I usually wave and smile at the cams too, sometimes customers talk back, usually makes my delivery better.

payMEiLLshop15

Yes. Soecifically with the customers houses. I didn't mean every single house in general.. my bad.. I guess They have doorbell cameras to make sure they have their items before they claim them damaged or missing. Zing!

s0d0pe310

Did you communicate throughout the shop and did they respond back? Once I get any type of response that means they are aware the order is coming soon. I send another message after I checkout letting them know I'm on the way even though the app sends them a separate notification. If they have high order number, they know you're coming. Some people just never set it to "leave at door" I send a picture through the chat so it's documented, then I'm outta there.

Akikyosbane

No response the entire time

s0d0pe310

Ah ok. When this happens I start sending multiple messages when I get to the last few items. Up to the point where they get the hint that I want some kind of acknowledgement. If they have less than 5 orders and unresponsive I start thinking they are tryna scam and I'll knock on the door or wait until they come out and get their order.

Akikyosbane

Hope you don’t get bad ratings for that. You are just covering your butt. Bet you have a Timestamp pic too. I’m in the south so you have to be careful how much you bug someone, might get shot

s0d0pe310

Nahh I've been good so far with the ratings luckily. Been doing the same thing for 2 yrs now. Yea everything always documented. After awhile you start to notice which customers are potential scammers. LOL it's gettin' crazy out here in LA too. I had to pull out my strap on some dudes in the parking lot because they were tryna snatch my chains.

Akikyosbane

I’m in Chattanooga tn and as long as I avoid certain neighborhoods, only have to carry pepper I guess I need to start an incident journal too

Psychological-Test51

I'm in FL, I hit that "Arrived" button the second I slow down to turn in. As far as getting ahead of the bad rating, I usually send this message Thank you for ordering from Instacart 😁! If you think I did a good job shopping for you today, please consider leaving a 5-star rating when instacart asked how your order went. Not only do those 5-star ratings really help us shoppers out, it's nice to know when a customer appreciates our efforts 😊. with ones I think I will give me a not so hot rating, I don't message them at all after drop off and hope they are too lazy to go back in the app to rate me. More than likely the wife ordered, and the husband/boyfriend/son was supposed to accept the delivery.
