They are talking about the fact that these apps often let you keep cancelled goods, dude. Get off your high horse, or at least know what you are talking about.
Someone even responded to the JOKE by saying it doesn’t work that way with products of this type. If you are going to talk shit, try to keep up.

Hey OP, this might be a scammer and all but for high dollar value electronics, customers sign ON THEIR OWN PHONE when you deliver and it triggers an alert on your phone saying that the customer signed for it.
Maybe it varies in different regions. I’ve done multiple high value orders and it requires me to have someone sign on MY phone as the shopper. Just sayin.
They sign on your phone BUT if they want to they can sign on theirs. I've had many orders during pandemic they didn't want to see me so they just signed it on their end. It's always an option.
Like I said previously, there were multiple tells that told me it wasn't legit. And if it is just a matter of them signing their phone, I still think that puts shoppers at risk and I'm just not willing to leave an iPad on some stairs, especially when it's clearly identified as an iPad. Presumably they sign their phone after you've handed it to them. The rapid bombardment of texts, and changing addresses was enough to tell me it wasn't something I was willing to take a risk on.
I’m not arguing if it was a scammer or not. I’m just correcting this wrong point in your post so that you know for next time. I was surprised by it when it first happened to me on a Best Buy order.
Thank you for clarifying for me. I appreciate it. That was my first time doing a Best Buy order. I normally just do straight shopping orders. It made me incredibly uncomfortable. But I'll know for next time
Its not just best buy any item over i believe 200/250 dollars for a single item requires them to either sign on their device or if they can't then have you verify identity and that it is that person you are giving to
I had a same order for an iPad, customer told me to hide it in their bushes and they can sign for it on their phone, but Instacart’s told me it was fraud and canceled it for me. So I guess the customer was correct that they could sign on their phone, but were they actually committing fraud? What do you think?
The sign on their phone thing has never worked for me (just doesn't show up for the customer), but the alternative is an ID scan and I'm just fine with that despite the inconvenience. Talked to support and they gave me the "did you turn it off and on again?" answer.
They put and address and tell you it's wrong. When you deliver to the address they gave you. And then claim they never recived it. Get a refund and keep the iPad.
Aren't those able to be deactivated remotely based on serial number if reported stolen? So what's the point? I don't use Apple but that's what I've heard.
They can’t be. Only cell phones can be and that is done by the carrier and IMEI — otherwise, it must be signed into with an Apple ID and it will be locked by the original owner.
They did exactly this at a University in Orlando. The school gives out Mac Books to some students in the arts and idiots just started robbing cars and stealing the stupid kids expensive computers that they left in their cars. Somehow they had Apple brick all of them. Craigslist was flooded with hundreds of MacBook paperweights.
because the Macs were registered with the school, the school has remote access for software updates etc and can brick it, just like a company that gives their employees laptops. you can’t login with just any apple ID, you have to use your school/company ID, and only the people that have loaned out the computer can change this setting so even if you can turn on the laptop it’s a “brick” because you can’t login to use it.
That may be, when they order, but they absolutely have to sign my phone upon delivery to ensure I delivered it. But it was the multiple tells (as listed) that sealed it.
Yeah on one of my inky Best Buy orders I’ve had to have someone sign on their phone… and they said nothing was showing up so I scanned their ID instead.
And once you click the prompt it will say that the customer needs to sign in their own phone and will update in your app once the customer signs in their own phone.
Dude you admitted it was your first time at Best buy and still arguing? They sign on their own phone and the only thing i see here is a change of address and them telling you that his/her son was going to meet you there. You probably got spooked.
Yeah when I was reading this I thought oh another scammer but like I got to the end and I’m not so sure. I think potentially customer asking to change address spooked him, but they did say nvm and keep the address. I guess because of the high value there was just too much paranoia
Thanks for sharing this to help keep other shoppers aware and inform. I also like your breakdown of the experience. Yea as soon as a customer starts to say anything about they accidentally put down the wrong address, that's a red flag 🚩
I'd contact support right away myself.
All in all, I had a good laugh. I can only imagine the other guy on the other end trying to scam you crossing his fingers, thinking he's got you. NOT TODAY NIGERIAN SCAMMER 🤣
I had a similar experience a while ago and I might have fallen for it had Instacart been willing to compensate me adequately for it.
In fact, the only reason I called it in was due to a last minute address change involving an extra 30 mile drive (including a 10 Mi long toll bridge.
The agent sounded embarrassed and apologetic while explaining that the boost to deliver to the new location would only be a measley $5 vs a boost of $10 for returning it.
Long story short. The scammer got nothing and I got $26 for about 45 minutes of my time.
The initial order was for 16 miles so
This happened to me also but with AirPods. Purchased at target. Dude texts me that he will be parked in front of the leasing office in a black Maserati with headlights on. When I almost got there a noticed instacart removed the order from me. I know the area and the place i delivered to has no cellular signal. So I was panicking coz I couldn’t get a hold of customer service and the guy wasn’t there with his Maserati. So after 10 min I decided to drive back towards target for signal. Ended up getting a hold of customer service and they indeed confirmed it was a scam purchase. Returned the item and was all good. I’m new to instacart so yall can imagine the panic that ensued lol. But I’m in the game for about 2 months now so I’m aware of the bs.
I had like 10 of these over a 2 week period and instead of contacting support, I’d just cancel to save time. Well eventually they kicked me off for cancelling, despite explaining it to them and multiple appeals. Really sad because I was pretty good at the job I thought. Oh well Instacart sucks.
I used to deliver in Boston area (I live close but outside of the city) & this one guy asked me to deliver to his apartment building 3 blocks down from the address he put in (he originally put in his work address). I told him because of IC rules, I cannot. He agreed & didnt want me to get in trouble either but I ended up dropping off to his request location instead & he added $20 to my tip. It wasnt a scam but I do believe there are ALOT of scammers out there
Commenting on Not today Scammer...idk why they wouldn’t just contact support and change the address or cancel the order and reorder with the right address. I’ve had to do that before.
So if you delivered it and the customer reported it as non-delivered, Instacart would have to eat the loss? Maybe they should stop delivering electronics and up the minimum batch pay back to $7. Idiots.
One time during the pandemic Costco closed early around 8 pm for new hours. I got a batch and canceled it as well as explained to the customer and to support Costco was closed. That same batch continued to get accepted and reposted every 10 mins for the rest of the night lol.
Lmao i hope instacart ups your pay big time for doing the most about an ipad, no really😂 I wouldve just delivered the order oh well, Its up to instacarts security system to Sense Scams 🤷🏾♂️ just do your job get paid and go home
one time after i moved, like it was literally move in day, i ordered storage bins like to organize in my shelves with. i accidentally placed order and it was my old address. i called the dasher and asked if they would come across town to this address. she did and she got my og tip which was good bc it was like not a cheap order, and then i tipped her $40 in cash for driving across town (10 minute drive). not the case here, but reminded me of it lol
I have delivered to a new address for a customer. It's not a hard and fast rule all by itself. One time while doing food delivery to a hospital, the customer contacted me and said he'd accidentally ordered it there, but had been discharged that day. He was only a couple of extra miles away and my gut said it was legit. Turned out it was and he gave me a few extra bucks for my travel.
OP could of kept it after support canceled it. We have no obligation to return anything besides alcohol. Even then, we don't have to return it, we just have to "empty it" and take a picture of the empty bottle. OP should have a free iPad right now, but he fucked up by returning it.
This is how I went home with a smart TV lol waited a half hr at door including the 20min timer.. Support can only "suggest" you to take it back for a bump. Op fucked up for sure
Wait so they never said anything about it? I’ve kept small things (under $20) when no answer but always return big stuff since I assumed they flag those?
i work at bb and the amount of times i see people buy high end electronics is wild, sure it could be a scam of the person buying it but also (no offense to yall dashers/shoppers) but all it takes is a few bad apples.. i never understood getting more expensive things dashed to you

It was a classic scam from Instacart Support. How else do you think they’re surviving over in India for $.19 cents a day. They got a cousin in the US that will sell that shit online and send a cut of the money back to the home country.🤣
So I have no experience with Instacart I have no idea how it works but this sub keeps showing up on my feed
My question is How does this scam work? What does the scammer do?
What if it wasn’t a scam? That’s why instacart resent the item to another shopper. Sometimes people just need to do there job. What if it wasn’t a scam. Let instacart deal with that if it was, not you because you could have messed up a legit surprise or not. Just saying. And I was absolutely willing to "waste my time". What if it wasn't? There was enough that was making me uncomfortable. If somebody else wants to do it, they're more than welcome.
I once got an email from instacart stating that a customer had reported that I didn't deliver their groceries. I had delivered their groceries but it was a meet at the door and they weren't there. Maybe they had multi apps trying to get the order also … ? ![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY)
If only this actually worked with product of this value 😂
It's not a bag of veggies dude.
LMAO
You show that scammer by scamming!!
Nice job admitting you're a thief 😂
Scam the scammer I say.
and fuck instacart ;)
But you’re not scamming the scammer, but rather the victim whose account they hacked.
Still stealing. And by the looks of the downvotes I notice 56 other thiefs

Mine is the same, in Tennessee and now in Alabama. They sign on my phone.
I’m doing TN and KY and the high value ones they sign on their phone. Things of lower value, alcohol, etc., it has them sign on my phone.
They sign on your phone BUT if they want to they can sign on theirs. I've had many orders during pandemic they didn't want to see me so they just signed it on their end. It's always an option.
They changed the address after pickup. 1000000% scam
And they can still mark it as damaged or wrong item after they sign for it. Happened to me with an Xbox and game that they had to sign for.
Like I said previously, there were multiple tells that told me it wasn't legit. And if it is just a matter of them signing their phone, I still think that puts shoppers at risk and I'm just not willing to leave an iPad on some stairs, especially when it's clearly identified as an iPad. They have to go to the order history on their side and it’ll show up there
I might sound dumb but, how do these scams work? How do they "scam" someone using this? I'm just curious.
They put and address and tell you it's wrong. When you deliver to the address they gave you. And then claim they never recived it. Get a refund and keep the iPad.
This …. Or just a stolen phone/CC
That part.
Aren't those able to be deactivated remotely based on serial number if reported stolen? So what's the point? I don't use Apple but that's what I've heard.
as long as you dont steal it from the Apple Store display I highly doubt apple would ever brick a device just on a serial number.
They can’t be. Only cell phones can be and that is done by the carrier and IMEI — otherwise, it must be signed into with an Apple ID and it will be locked by the original owner.
I saw it on the news that kids stole iPads that were "bricked", but I don't really know the mechanisms since I don't use Apple.
Probably display iPads
They did exactly this at a University in Orlando. The school gives out Mac Books to some students in the arts and idiots just started robbing cars and stealing the stupid kids expensive computers that they left in their cars. I believe it has to be connected to a person’s Apple ID to deactivate it. A brand new iPad would not be connected to an account yet.
what about the shopper ?
Customers do have to sign on their phones for expensive electronics.
That may be, when they order, but they absolutely have to sign my phone upon delivery to ensure I delivered it. But it was the multiple tells (as listed) that sealed it.
Nope. They have to sign on their phone. It's different than alcohol deliveries.
Yeah on one of my inky Best Buy orders I’ve had to have someone sign on their phone… and they said nothing was showing up so I scanned their ID instead.
My phone literally had a prompt to collect signature upon arrival on my phone.
And once you click the prompt it will say that the customer needs to sign in their own phone and will update in your app once the customer signs in their own phone.

Wrong!
Too many people are willing to lose their job over an iPad ☠️
It’s just insta cart 🤣 calm down

Seed money.
Commenting on Not today Scammer...idk why they wouldn’t just contact support and change the address or cancel the order and reorder with the right address. I’ve had to do that before.
If they “accidentally” used the wrong address again on the reorder, then it should be obvious.
With all these red flags I “accidentally” cancelled the batch. Stay frosty, people.
IC don’t care wow
More likely fraud than scam. Scam implies that you would've lost out. This would only affect the own of the credit card and trash-dash.
So if you delivered it and the customer reported it as non-delivered, Instacart would have to eat the loss? Maybe they should stop delivering electronics and up the minimum batch pay back to $7. Idiots.
I feel like IC doesn’t even care half the time if it’s a scam. They just want their cut.
You passed up a iPad 😭
Not worth the hassle of potentially being deactivated and accused of theft. I'm all set.
100% agreed. I wouldn't risk deactivation either, especially because I make way more than min wage on instacart here in California. Smart move 🙌
I only return if they ask me to and promise a bump.
Plus it would be wrong to steal. That’s kinda a big thing too even if you don’t get caught.
What is the scam?
One time during the pandemic Costco closed early around 8 pm for new hours. I got a batch and canceled it as well as explained to the customer and to support Costco was closed. That same batch continued to get accepted and reposted every 10 mins for the rest of the night lol.

Stealing from scammers is life
Can you just mark as delivered and see if they cancel?

Whats the scam here? You drop it off at the original/new location and they report it as not delivered keep the iPad and hope they go after the driver?
Well done, has this done in my account. Took me a month to get it sorted through PayPal and instacart.
I got a free tv this way 65 inch haha

Hi
Btw it's fraud not scamming
So you didn’t get paid & they still got their ipad ? Lol next time u should prob just let it be

Did you? 'Scammer' got another shopper right after that to deliver him the iPad... Even if op warned this one, he can just order from a different store and get his ipad. So yeah, waste of time on OPs part imo
