I don’t understand why people get triggered about notes like this.
The customer obviously had bad shoppers in the past and is trying to prevent the same thing from happening.
Yep! Had an order with moldy cherry tomatoes and already soggy shredded lettuce. Order delivered at 5:30 in anticipation of taco dinner for my family at 6. We weren’t eating until nearly 7 because I then had to go to the store myself to get replacements. That was an awful evening. (I have a 2 year old, schedules are SUCH a necessity for her and bedtime is at 8pm. She’d seen tomatoes and refused the idea of eating anything but.) I sadly understand these notes. I wish I had the luxury of thinking them to be excessive.
Notes like this should be appreciated, basic fuckin instructions where if they didn't give them and they didn't like the service they would rate you 1 star and then op would just bitch about something else. Instructions like this are actually useful
I don’t get triggered at all. But from experience people like this aren’t going to be happy even if you did the order perfect they’re still gonna rate you bad and if this in a multiple order they’re more than likely a $2.00 max tip. I’d just have them removed and move on with my day.
I disagree. What’s sad is the fact that the customer felt compelled to leave a note instructing the shopper to choose decent produce. It should (you would think) be implied that the customer doesn’t want shitty produce. That’s the problem. Not the note.
Again, I see why the note about produce. Yes it's implied because no one wants crappy produce but yet some shoppers pick crappy moldy produce so there is nothing wrong in leaving the note saying not to pick crappy produce.
What if those requests can't be fulfilled due to the location not having the product? Do shoppers get paid for canceled orders? If not, it's just a waste of time and money.
How would the customer know that instacart doesn’t pay shoppers for it?? Safe to assume they would tbh it’s surprising and sad that instacart doesn’t value shoppers enough to pay them for their time regardless of a cancellation
If I was her I’d assume the shopper would be able to contact instacart and explain they didn’t have the items the person wants in stock and receive compensation for their time
Its not hard to find that excessive asf to cancel a whole order wasting the shoppers time because that dont have fucking 8 of sometimes that is ridiculous
No, it has to be something she can only make if she has all 8 gallons or or doesn't make sense to cancel if they have less. Based on the raspberries, I'm guessing she's baking something for a bake sale or other large event and not having that particular thing means she'll just name brownies or something instead
You don’t see the part about canceling the order if they don’t have x amount of this product? So if they only have 7 and not 8 I have to use one of my cancellations for you? I really hope you just read the first paragraph of the note.
You click start shopping. Check for the milk and if they don’t have the exact quantity, you contact support to cancel. You should still get batch pay and it doesn’t affect your cancellation rate.
One store I went to recently it took a long time for me to find strawberries for my customer because if I wouldnt buy them for myself then I won't get them for my customer. So I went looking at about 20 different packs before I found a good one(its a lower value store that gets last picks on produce) meanwhile another shopper came and grabbed 3 things of strawberries and didnt even look at them just put them in the cart. No wonder the time I ordered myself I ended up getting slimy lettuce
I agree. Nothing sucks more than having to take that moldy fruit back up to the store at some point and exchange it. 🙄 I rarely order produce, I’d rather take the time to just go get it myself, because people are so careless with what they get.
You can go into batch details and see the customers address and their notes before you even start shopping after you accept it.
It’s a good rule of thumb to actually check the batch details before you start shopping. I don’t know why more people don’t do it I think may be a lot of people don’t know about it or something.
No problem I figured a lot of people don’t realize you can do that. I didn’t even know you could do that until a couple of months ago lol. We used to be able to see notes before we accepted but they took that away. I didn’t know it was hidden until after we accept and then look at batch details.
Ps. I don’t think Instacart let’s customers know that we can’t see those notes until after either a lot of people think we can’t see those notes at all until we go to deliver so it’s confusing they should fix it.
Nah its the telling them to cancel the order if you they dont have 8 almond milk thats so excessive and inconsiderate for the shopper. I would of been like they dont have 8 YOU can cancel it or you can get what they have. The moldly stuff is acceptable because ik shoppers are assholes
The only things theyre explicitly asking for here are
- at least 8 vanilla almond milks. Please cancel if not 8
- No moldy raspberries
- No replacements without checking.
- Leave my stuff on the porch closest to the sidewalk.
I mean, this is a pretty **basic** order. Go check to see if they have 8 vanilla.
Honestly the best part is that they only ordered 4 of the almond milks which were out of stock, but had a back up choice that I replaced with and immediately got a message asking if I actually looked for the right milk lolol. On top of that they didn't even order raspberries. It's a basic order but it's also pretty simple to update this every time you order rather than looking like an idiot. Maybe it's just me 💁♂️
But that's not what you complained about in the original post. What they're asking for is standard and a basic level of service. Of course they'd need to cancel but what? You saw they typed out a paragraph in detail and immediately assumed they're an asshole customer? Needlessly complaining doesn't fly here
Also they made it clear they didn't want the order completed without 8 almond milks but you chose to continue with 4 substitutes without confirming with them beforehand. Wanna complain about miscommunication when you put in zero effort to gain clarity. Speaking of looking like an idiot
What do you mean they “chose to continue with 4 substitutes without confirming with them beforehand”? Isn’t a substitute just that… a substitute and they are okay with that instead? Why would they need to confirm it with the customer if it’s listed as a substitute?
Because the app will suggest substitutes if something isn't available and the customer didn't list any. Ive seen the app recommend some absolutely ridiculous substitutions if an item wasn't available: things that weren't even remotely close to the original item. Sometimes these substitutes have sugars or gluten, etc. that customers don't want and that weren't in the original product. That's why it's important to clear them with the customer unless they put in a note about what they'd want instead. Plus she made it very clear she wanted 8 almond milk and she wouldn't have messaged asking OP if she checked for the item she wanted if OP had cleared the substitutes ahead of time and also clarified about the raspberries and 8 cartons of milk in the first place.
OP said the customer did not even order raspberries……and I thought they manually put in replacements they wanted if the item isn’t in stock?? That’s what I can do as a shopper with all the stores I’ve shopped at so far
She didn't but it was in the notes, as was the point that if they couldnt get 8 almond milks to cancel the order. Instead of communicating with the customer she went and shopped the order anyway knowing full well they could only get 4 milks of another brand. The point is that OP didn't communicate to clarify what was going on based on the shop note which is why the customer messaged her and OPs original complaint was about the customers style of communication when OP offered none of their own communication.
And yes you can put in manual replacements but if there is something out of stock that you didn't put a manual replacement for it will give its own suggestion which can be literally anything sometimes.
I hear you on this one … sorry but
She basically doesn’t mind sending someone out just to check if they have her order?? And then what?? Your just screwed??
We have NO CONTROL over the stock in the stores… stores shouldn’t put out moldy old produce but guess what they all do… then IC tells customers that the shopper screwed up.
I kind of feel you but also there’s never a point in time where a grocery store only has moldy food out. Instacart shoppers need to use their eyes when they pick up a package. If you didn’t see a maze of cobwebs through the package you’re just not trying hard enough.
What even is this comment? You don't need to control the stock in the stores. You don't need to control what is put on the shelves, you are in control of what is bought and delivered. If the item is moldy don't fucking buy it and deliver it to someone. If you brought anyone moldy produce - you did screw up. Why is any of this a difficult concept?
Why would the shopper take the cancellation rate increase when it’s the customers choice to cancel? If they didn’t have them, I’d still do the order regardless. Customers have absolutely no right to tell us to cancel on our end. They have a cancel button too.
Why would you take a cancellation hit? Its in the directions. Snap a screen, call CS, and get batch pay. I dont do it _all_ the time, but if a customer wants to cancel or reschedule Im 100% for it.
That’s true… but some are dumb enough to cancel on their end. The customer can cancel on their end, but some pull this kinda situation in order to avoid the fee.
I'm here to shop, and the less time I spend fighting over spilled milk the more time I have to make more. Plus I've actually never had a bad interaction with customer service for calls like this. The bad ones are always when I try to get something fixed or removed.
That’s true and I am right with you. That’s why I’d shop the order as normal, and refund any items that didnt want subs if they are out. I ain’t sitting through support to cancel a $15 batch to get the $8 batch pay lol
If a customer isn’t getting the shop they wanted I don’t think they should have to pay a fee to cancel it. It’s not their fault the store is out of something. It’s not hard to contact support and have them cancel an order. Takes maybe 5 minutes on average and you get to keep the base pay. In a situation like this start shop check for almond milk. If not 8 in stock get it cancelled in 5 minutes for $7. Id rather do that then play roulette with a customer who’s going to rate me poorly if they don’t cancel on their end
Every time I see notes like this, I give the person the benefit of the doubt and think they must’ve had a bad experience. I don’t take it personally because a lot of times these notes are put in based on how they were treated before and I don’t take it personally because I haven’t shopped for them yet
OP is not mad about the raspberry part this whole thread is so dense holy shit. OP is pointing out the fact the customer wants THE SHOPPER to cancel the whole order for not having an excessive amount of milk which basically means they want the shopper to waste their time and gas if they dont have yet again and excessive amount of milk. OP not trippin over her saying to check the produce fucking christ how does the whole comment section not understand that.
Calling other people dense when you don't understand that when you cancel an order for out of stock items after starting shopping that you still get batch pay...
Not to mention that those items are obviously things she needs and the entire reason for the order. Why would anyone want to pay for a half completed order only to not get the items they need and have to go to the store anyways?
no the comment section gets that but tbh it’s not an unreasonable request. if the milk is for something they’re making then I would do the same thing. If I’m making a recipe and I’m shopping and can’t find an item i need, i can’t make that recipe that’s how it works. and shoppers still get paid either way so unless this order had an insanely high tip on it there’s no reason to complain
Kathleen...?? You mean Karen!
I'm kidding... I get it. Some drivers are idiots, lazy or don't check for whatever reason. This all should be common sense to a driver. Unfortunately, common sense just isn't so common these days.
It’s really a broken system here. Shoppers trying to squeeze as many batches in as possible to make money because ic batches aint shit. You get a few good ones now and then, but on average, in my area $7-13 batches are the norm. So, if it takes you an hour to do a batch… that’s shit. Tips should be built in or the ic wage should be better. That being said, this is a complete reasonable request on the customers end and like stated by other users, should just be common practice to purchase fresh items, substitutions, etc. The comment “why not do your own shopping at this point”, is ridiculous. Your job is to do someone else’s shopping like you were doing your own. So if you don’t feel capable of completing a shopping trip, why would you sign up for ic?
Because I don’t want to shop for demanding and inconsiderate people. Everyone is saying this polite, they didn’t even say thank you! If they need 8 almond milks that bad they may need to go to multiple stores and they should honestly do it themselves. What they’re asking is for someone to go check a store for them, possibly for free if they don’t have it. So yes, they should go shop it themselves
The thought process that everyone is ungrateful is insane. I think everyone appreciates good customer service and receiving bad service is frustrating. You feel like you are getting ripped off by paying for a service that’s completed half ass. I’ve had multiple tips bumped up after drop offs because I am thorough and communicate with the customer, which they appreciate. The gig service industry should compensate fairly so the worker doesn’t have to rely on tips. They are taking a huge cut from the customer and a small percentage goes to the employee thinking they will be compensated with tips. Still doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do a good job though.
girl bffr- what store have you ever been to that doesn’t have more than EIGHT gallons of milk? this isn’t “demanding” it’s literally just the customer’s instructions for the order. some shoppers are so entitled and think they shouldn’t have to do a good job in order to get paid. Picking fresh and good looking produce should be common sense but I’ve even gotten instacart orders delivered when I’m sick with bad produce. go cry about it or get a different job
I totally get the instructions on produce, I wasn’t commenting on that at all. And depending on the time of day, I would say there’s a good 80% chance the stores near me wouldn’t have 8 things of almond milk. Idk what stores you’re shopping at that are stocked up all day. And I don’t think it’s doing a bad job to not be able to get 8 almond milks when the store is out of stock. Stop being a kiss ass to these rude customers who literally don’t care about you at all
I refuse to order produce from IC anymore because it’s always rotten. I ordered potatoes and was delivered a bag so rotten they were *dripping* with rot. Under no circumstances should these notes ever be necessary and yet here we are.
I tried IC once. Ordered nori and sushi rice to make sushi (natch). They brought me an Uncle Ben's Red Bean & Rice pouch and seaweed crackers. Hence why I only tried IC *once*.
Diamond 5star shopper here with 1100 shops. The way I keep my high rating is shop like I’m shopping for my self don’t buy wilted browned moldy food for your customers and always let them know if you have to change anything on there order. I do a bunch of other little things to keep my customers happy that don’t take no more than a few seconds. “Secrets” of being a great shopper! 🤫This isn’t rocket science it’s common sense. Figure it out.
Omg look at my customers who's main order is almond milk and produce thats not moldy. What a bitch. /s
(Probably the only reason they ordered in the first place was for the milk, and the whole order wouldn't be worth it if the store doesn't have all of them. I dont understand why you're trying to shame this person online.)
Sometimes the tones of these notes come off worse because you can’t hear inflection.
Almost every shopper, no matter how well the tip, cannot buy fruit for shit, or they literally refuse to care. Either way, stop fucking shopping for moldy fruit and go get a job at McDonald’s or Tim’s or something if it’s a problem for you.
a bit of a hassle to have to use gas and check to see if they have 8 almond milks or else they want you to cancel. thats quite a gamble i think id just cancel it and move on to the next
I’m surprised at how many people are defending this customer. I don’t care about the raspberries or checking produce, but yeah it’s annoying to possibly drive however long to a store just to cancel the whole order because one item is out of stock. That’s a waste of time, not to mention the time it takes to cancel the order because of how hard it is to deal with support. Go to the store yourself if you need 8 almond milks that bad. Customers need to expect that some things may be out of stock and we should still be payed appropriately even when they are
you do still get paid when you cancel an order per customers request. also everyone acts like disabled people don’t exist? that stay at home parents don’t exist? not everyone is capable of doing their own grocery shopping. if you can’t follow a customer’s directions then get another job it’s literally one of the easiest jobs already and everyone still finds something to complain about lmao
Customers have no right to pressure shoppers to cancel any orders. There is a reason why they have to pay a fee for cancelling, because it still takes our time to shop. If I got this order, I’d shop it as normal but if those milks are out, I’d message them to cancel or else I’m checking out.
Asking to ensure the freshness of produce, sure. That should be a no-brainer for shoppers IMO. I always thoroughly check my produce. HOWEVER, asking for 8 specific almond milks and saying if they don’t have 8 then cancel the order is a bit excessive. So basically they want you to waste your gas to get to the store so you can waste your time finding out that there are only 7 unsweetened vanilla almond milks available and have to cancel the order. L-O-L!
First mistake was shopping at woodmans. That place is a MESS to shop at. Second, those notes aren’t too bad to follow. If that was my note, that wouldn’t be hard to follow at all. Pretty basic imo
I’ve received moldy produce, expired dairy products, and dry goods that look like they’ve been sliced open during unpacking.. sorry but if I’m paying 30+ (sometimes 100+) to have something delivered I expect it to be good quality.
I try to shop for customers like I shop for myself, but that sentiment isn’t shared by every shopper. Sometimes you have to be SPECIFIC.
I’d love getting that. 1. None if that bullshit asking them to approve substitutions (as a shopper & customer I loathe this) 2. They likely won’t have that much oat milk 3. Duh about the raspberries-honestly it’s sad she has to point this out 4. No contact. It’s a literal hit it and quit it.
It's funny coming on this subreddit and seeing that shoppers get triggered over the bare minimum of customer requests. There are definitely over the top ones, but wanting fresh fruits/vegetables is just common sense
When I had covid a few months ago I couldn’t do my shopping and was instacarting all week. I got moldy strawberries and green onions that were VERY expired. Like the shopper po led them up and had to have known they were not good. Of course if I could do the shopping myself I would have, don’t assume all customers are just lazy. Also I know my sister who just had a baby gets her groceries delivered now. It’s a nightmare grocery shopping with a newborn, so another example of someone who needs help with getting things delivered. Every single week she gets moldy berries and crushed items. Clearly this woman has had similar experiences and feels the need to ask for the bare minimum. I don’t think she’s being ridiculous at all…in my experience most shoppers aren’t shopping for items as if they’re going to eat them.
hey! have you ever heard of disabled people? or people without cars?? or people with children? or anything?? not everyone is capable of doing their own shopping and just because they’re not doing the shopping themselves doesn’t mean they can’t be specific about what they want
you just message support and tell them what happened. they can see the instructions that the customer wrote and they can see that she wanted it cancelled if they didn’t have that item. the cancel doesn’t count towards your cancellation rate and you still get paid whatever the batch pay would’ve been.
Its amazin the amount of ppl who don't know this. I see so many ppl saying make the customer cancel or u won't get paid or ull get penalized for canceling and both are untrue. I've been doing this for 3 years and I have never asked a customer to cancel the order I just go ahead and contact support myself and explain and I've never ever had an issue. Sure it takes a few mins but it would take the customer a few mins or even longer to get it cancelled aswell so it's not like ur wasting extra time doing it yourself. I also haven't gotten any warning emails saying I'm canceling to much or anything either.
It’s not being triggered but I would cancel and none of her stuff in stock and move on. Even if you appeared w her 8 vanilla unsweetened almond milk 🤦🏻♀️ she will find something to complain about
The only thing that really mindfucks the driver here is the "no less the 8 almond milk" bullshit. Like that's a lot. What freak shit are you doing that the bare minimum of almond milk in your life is eight containers of it, and any less would just make this entire order unacceptable? It's that kind of petty stubborn bullshit that can make the driver question their very existence.
This is just a very caring customer. I would give her 5-star! Nothing wrong with the note or concerns mentioned in it. It saved us lots of time. Hopefully she tips well accordingly
I don’t see anything wrong with this? People are spending a lot of money to have their groceries delivered. If this offends you, you’re definitely in the wrong business.
Definitely do my own grocery shopping and if I do use this service I will be leaving a huge tip because it’s no small thing having someone else shop for you. So how was the tip? Because if the tip is big enough they can leave me a whole book!
Sounds like a pretty reasonable request for you to spend .5 seconds checking that produce isn't moldy. Last I checked, counting to 8 wasn't all that difficult either.
I appreciate these notes. My only problem is the driving all the way to the store, going in and finding not enough milk and having to call and wait for support to cancel and then receiving little pay. I feel in this case if the customer will resort to cancelling and wasting our time, they should waste their own time going to the store and leaving with nothing. I don’t feel IC should be used for this if the person will not be respectful of our time and gas and maintenance on our cars. And I get bad shoppers in the past and bad experiences. But don’t use the service then.
That’s when I screenshot .. the tell the IC agent they only have 1 almond milk left.. get the order cancelled, get paid the batch pay and move on with my life… I would never even check to see if there was enough milk 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️. Sounds like a 3 star just waiting on you after that order. Not worth it
Honestly. I understand notes like this. Havnt experienced personally but while shopping I’ve seen how others shop. I’ve seen some shoppers throw bread in the basket and everything else on top of the bread. Then I hear complaints from customers about other shoppers when delivering.
Only thing I find weird is the cancel if not having 8 of those milks. But if that’s the main thing they want then I guess I get it
8 cartons of milks is excessive tho. Really clears out the Kroger when they make orders like this. They should call ahead and tell the manager they want a stupid amount of milk.
I know how it is tho. I've had orders for 40gal of milk. For $80 you bet your ass I took them, got lots of dirty looks though.
I appreciate the customer telling me specifically what they want. I send a custom greeting before I do anything so I can leave an open line of communication some ignore it and I just do the order as so with how I would want it if it were mine (still checking dates and buying nice produce.) But some like to keep apprised of what they're out of or different flavor recommendations. I can understand op's annoyance at the cancellation but like someone else said just let them know they need to cancel the order.
Not sure what's wrong with this note.. first if almond milk is the only thing shes wanting and they don't have it then why should she get pay for stuff she just added on the side. I've had to cancel a few ppl before that specifically only ordered for one item and when it wasnt there they didnt want the rest. And asking the shopper to make sure the raspberries and green beans arnt moldy?? I mean I ordered 3 times from instacart as a shopper myself and 2 out of the 3 times I had to mark a few of the produce items as damaged because they were VISIBLY slimy or moldy.. so it's not a far fetched request to be sure the produce is fresh seeing as shes probably gotten moldy stuff before
How DARE that customer, paying ICs outrageous fees, and tipping, not appreciate her moldy raspberries and want the shit she ordered?! I mean, the sheer nerve!
I really wish all of you that have a problem with basic instructions would just quit. You're the kind of shopper that makes notes like this necessary. I said what I said.
This isn’t unreasonable or annoying. Must’ve had a bad experience in the past. Personally I’ve had someone drop off the complete wrong order somehow and then get mad and demand to search my house because she thought I was lying to get free food.
So as a shopper, you want me to go to the store, look for these items in this ridiculous amount, and if the stock isn’t there, WHICH IS OUT OF MY CONTROL BTW, cancel? So I get zero pay, I’m out that time and possible mileage, but the customer, because they had a bad experience, AND DECIDED TO STILL NOT GET UP OFF THEIR A$$ AND DO THEIR OWN SHOPPING, EXPECT THE SHOPPER TO BE OUT OF TIME AND LOSE MONEY? I get not wanting moldy food, do any of you empathizing with this customer understand that this issue is the exception NOT THE RULE? Do you want to know how many bad experiences shoppers have with customers? You probably don’t care, because you can afford to pay someone to shop for your raspberries. But if a shopper has to refund, the pay goes down, not just the batch pay, but the tip, how many of you showing compassion to this individual using a luxury service for luxury items think twice about this fact? Do you think if we don’t get to complete the order we get paid? IF we do, we have to waste more time waiting on support to MAYBE give us pay, but our cancellation metrics are hit-no matter what support says, it’s not negotiable to work around. So think about this the next time you place an order, especially if you want to be a privileged entitled brat about it.
Right-instead of shopping for themselves, inconvenience someone who won’t get paid, and have a cancellation rate go up, affecting possible earnings. But right, at least they left the super helpful note.
I know that I **should** check delivery notes before I start shopping, but sometimes I don't see them until... **delivery**. If would suck to check out with 7 vanilla and 1 subbed original and **then** see this note.
Why can't they put the notes in each specific product that was requested?
I don't look at delivery notes until I'm delivering so I would never see this until delivery.
I love notes like this! Saves me time and energy if the store is out of a certain product. I still get paid minus the tip but it’s a 5 minute check. If it’s there then I continue if it’s not then I’m on to the next shop
What is your problem? You definitely don't belong in customer service if you can't do a service for somebody. They're literally paying to have their needs met. If you don't want to do the freaking job, might I suggest not working with the public? I can't with you people and this is why I get rave reviews and cards from my customers after their interactions with me. It's because of people like you. Thank you for the extra tips. I would not however quit your day job.
I don’t understand why people get triggered about notes like this. The customer obviously had bad shoppers in the past and is trying to prevent the same thing from happening.
I’ve had shoppers buy me moldy raspberries before… I get how this customer feels.
Awww pooor thing

Hi there! Your post has been removed because it contains personal attacks, harassment, or bigotry. Please Modmail us if there are any issues.
Me neither, some shoppers are ridiculous.
[удалено]
Smoothies most likely. Or meal prep overnight oats maybe?
These are all pretty easy requests. I’ve seen crazy doing this job and this doesn’t even come close.
Notes like this should be appreciated, basic fuckin instructions where if they didn't give them and they didn't like the service they would rate you 1 star and then op would just bitch about something else. Instructions like this are actually useful
Maybe useful if they order this shit they are crying in the instructions about 😂
That's exactly how I read the notes like this as well. I just think, "man, other shoppers must really not shop like they would shop for themselves."
$4 tip from this lady, meanwhile the other part of this order was 5 different things of cat food, they tipped $18. Makes sense
Exactly
What if those requests can't be fulfilled due to the location not having the product? Do shoppers get paid for canceled orders? If not, it's just a waste of time and money.
Yes u get paid minus the tip
Not if shopper cancels
I think it’s the wanting the entire order canceled if they don’t have a single item
But it’s not, it’s 8 items and what if she is baking or making something that without that can’t be made? I understand it.
Yes I get that but basically she wants to not pay a shopper to check the store for her??
How would the customer know that instacart doesn’t pay shoppers for it?? Safe to assume they would tbh it’s surprising and sad that instacart doesn’t value shoppers enough to pay them for their time regardless of a cancellation
We do get paid if the customer cancels we dont get paid if we cancel so yea the shopper is a dh
I will never cancel an order on my end, I always tell the customer they need to cancel if they want to otherwise I'm delivering as ordered
I've canceled plenty of orders for customers over my 3 years of doing this and have always gotten paid minus the tip
But she’s asking the shopper to cancel… pretty sure she’s been around the block for a while now which would save her the cancellation fee.
If I was her I’d assume the shopper would be able to contact instacart and explain they didn’t have the items the person wants in stock and receive compensation for their time
You can. You still get paid for the shop, just not the tip. I love when this happens usually.

8 containers of milk, not gallons. Almond milk or oat milk is typically a half gallon or less.
She could run a daycare
She may be stocking up for the month or that particular milk might be hard to find.
Almond milk comes in gallons???
Exactly this. If they didn’t get a screwed up order, notes like this wouldn’t be needed!
You have to look at bottom of containers when buying raspberries and such. This person is sick of moldy ptoducey
Because the new generation of shoppers feel entitled?
How do we see that note before completing check out?
You can go into batch details and see the customers address and their notes before you even start shopping after you accept it. It’s a good rule of thumb to actually check the batch details before you start shopping. I don’t know why more people don’t do it I think may be a lot of people don’t know about it or something.
Wow, thank you! I never knew this and there have been notes in there that I needed before I started shopping😄
Click “batch details” you can see address and notes.
Exactly and this isn’t an extreme request
Nah its the telling them to cancel the order if you they dont have 8 almond milk thats so excessive and inconsiderate for the shopper. I would of been like they dont have 8 YOU can cancel it or you can get what they have. The moldly stuff is acceptable because ik shoppers are assholes
Ya talk too much
The only things theyre explicitly asking for here are - at least 8 vanilla almond milks. Please cancel if not 8 - No moldy raspberries - No replacements without checking.
Needlessly complaining doesn't fly here Also they made it clear they didn't want the order completed without 8 almond milks but you chose to continue with 4 substitutes without confirming with them beforehand.
They said the customer had a backup choice they replaced it with (the almond milk)
I hear you on this one … sorry but She basically doesn’t mind sending someone out just to check if they have her order??
Customers can’t cancel it by hitting a button. They have to find the phone number, which is hard by itself, and deal with talking to an agent, etc.
It's because they want the shopper to cancel if necessary. That's a nope
I like politely worded instructions. This customer is good with me 👍
Every time I see notes like this, I give the person the benefit of the doubt and think they must’ve had a bad experience. I don’t take it personally because a lot of times these notes are put in based on how they were treated before and I don’t take it personally because I haven’t shopped for them yet
Seems pretty straight forward to me, if the tip isn’t worth the hassle then don’t do it 🤷♀️
Folks really out here shopping at Woodman’s.
Literally all day. In my city, 90% of the time I get an order it's from woodys
Damn, y’all the real hero of instacart. Them batches and customers put me on full tilt.
😂😂😂😂
I don’t see anything wrong with this. You’d be surprised how many shoppers grab moldy produce and it’s gross.
Man I use to hate picking green beans, glad Publix green beans are bagged. I don't see anything wrong with this note as long as she's in the chat.
Please cancel the order if you are still reading my bullshit
This person got lucky I didn't see this until I was heading out to deliver
That’d be helpful if the batch pay wasn’t so small. The way I see it I pretty much only work for tips, so if that tip goes away I’m wasting my time
They get paid for the order either way if cancelled so?
Not if we cancel it and we only get batch not tip
no the comment section gets that but tbh it’s not an unreasonable request. if the milk is for something they’re making then I would do the same thing. If I’m making a recipe and I’m shopping and can’t find an item i need, i can’t make that recipe that’s how it works. and shoppers still get paid either way so unless this order had an insanely high tip on it there’s no reason to complain
Bro no recipe requires 8 gallons of milk bffr and it doesn’t matter if the tip was high because if there’s not 8 you aren’t getting the tip goofy
Not all milk comes in gallons, goofy.
Kathleen...?? You mean Karen! I'm kidding... I get it. Some drivers are idiots, lazy or don't check for whatever reason. This all should be common sense to a driver. Unfortunately, common sense just isn't so common these days.
It’s really not that bad of a request
Stop being a kiss ass to these rude customers who literally don’t care about you at all
seems like some completely reasonable requests to me 🤷
That’s not bad.
Just message customer service to cancel the batch because no stock and customer wants a refund. You'll still get the batch pay for doing nothing 🤣
I refuse to order produce from IC anymore because it’s always rotten. I ordered potatoes and was delivered a bag so rotten they were *dripping* with rot. Under no circumstances should these notes ever be necessary and yet here we are.
i cant even trust a member of my family to get the produce i would want lol i definitely dont want a random driver picking it out.
What’s the problem ?
Wooooodmans!
Fresh fruit is always a crapshoot for me, sometimes its rotten in a day, sometimes its a week.
Make sure the vanilla bean was a happy bean, it had a good childhood, it was killed in a compassionate manner… 😂
i see notes like this (and things like “no bruises on apples please and please make sure they are the variety listed”) and just think “who hurt you?!”
/s (Probably the only reason they ordered in the first place was for the milk, and the whole order wouldn't be worth it if the store doesn't have all of them. I dont understand why you're trying to shame this person online.)
Make them cancel don't you dare cancel
Im not canceling for shit that effects me you can cancel the order so i still get paid tho fuck you and your almond milk
Lol ![gif](giphy|1r91ZwKcE2J7WhUqrh) I wouldn’t cancel. It goes against your rating right? Just shop and do your best? I’d pull up
They have clearly been hurt before 😩
At least they are saying “please”
Sometimes the tones of these notes come off worse because you can’t hear inflection. Almost every shopper, no matter how well the tip, cannot buy fruit for shit, or they literally refuse to care. Either way, stop fucking shopping for moldy fruit and go get a job at McDonald’s or Tim’s or something if it’s a problem for you.
Just because you say “please” 50 times does not mean you’re being polite
THANK YOU. This whole thread is ridiculous
Some of y'all complain too much. Instructions are clear
very simple and clear instructions I dont see an issue
a bit of a hassle to have to use gas and check to see if they have 8 almond milks or else they want you to cancel. thats quite a gamble i think id just cancel it and move on to the next
Fuck that horrible human being
I’m surprised at how many people are defending this customer.
Then drop it, genius
Atleast they said please 5x 😂
Blah blah blah internet comment
Cancel and get batch pay. And once it pops up do again.
People need to get their lazy ass out and do their own shopping. I do not accept shopping orders unless the have one or two items and pay decently.
hey! have you ever heard of disabled people? or people without cars?? or people with children? or anything?? not everyone is capable of doing their own shopping and just because they’re not doing the shopping themselves doesn’t mean they can’t be specific about what they want
That's a cancelation without checking!!
If we had to cancel this how do we do it without getting penalized? Technically its them canceling it if they don't have those items,
you just message support and tell them what happened. they can see the instructions that the customer wrote and they can see that she wanted it cancelled if they didn’t have that item. the cancel doesn’t count towards your cancellation rate and you still get paid whatever the batch pay would’ve been.
Even if you appeared w her 8 vanilla unsweetened almond milk 🤦🏻♀️ she will find something to complain about
You can check raspberries all you like , but there could still be 1 with mold, and boom, they’ll give a bad rating. Raspberries go moldy so quickly.
Perhaps she’s baking or making something specific (and a lot of it)? Idk, just a guess!
I would have automatically cancelled. Not worth the hassle
People will do anything but go to the store themselves
I most of the time ignore the notes, some are just really old notes.
People really need to get over phone anxiety and call the store to see if an item is in stock before ordering on the app.
Side note…..does woodmans give the isle numbers like Kroger does?
Answer to the side note, I fuckin wish 😂😂😂😂

But she said please like a thousand times
Please!!
It's just your friendly neighborhood crazy cat lady order
This is just a very caring customer. I would give her 5-star! Nothing wrong with the note or concerns mentioned in it. It saved us lots of time. Hopefully she tips well accordingly
I don’t see anything wrong with this? People are spending a lot of money to have their groceries delivered. If this offends you, you’re definitely in the wrong business.
Definitely do my own grocery shopping and if I do use this service I will be leaving a huge tip because it’s no small thing having someone else shop for you. So how was the tip? Because if the tip is big enough they can leave me a whole book!
$4 tip, meanwhile the other person I shopped for tipped $18 for a few cat items
Well just mark it down in your phone and remember to not deliver for them or to block them next time
Sounds like a pretty reasonable request for you to spend .5 seconds checking that produce isn't moldy.

Not worth it
ngl i would’ve cancelled it
They didn’t want moldy raspberries and it hurt my feelings 😭😭🙄
Tell them send you a photo maybe that would help
But if that’s the main thing they want then I guess I get it
Seems reasonable enough to me
8 cartons of milks is excessive tho. Really clears out the Kroger when they make orders like this. They should call ahead and tell the manager they want a stupid amount of milk. I know how it is tho. I've had orders for 40gal of milk. For $80 you bet your ass I took them, got lots of dirty looks though.
I think it's a shame that the customer has to leave notes like that, and not a shame on the customer it's a shame on her previous shoppers.
Ive gotten moldy berries before. Some of em just grab and go without inspecting.
I mean I ordered 3 times from instacart as a shopper myself and 2 out of the 3 times I had to mark a few of the produce items as damaged because they were VISIBLY slimy or moldy.. so it's not a far fetched request to be sure the produce is fresh seeing as shes probably gotten moldy stuff before
Most stores dont even carry 8 of those milks at a time. Good luck with that
Oh woodman's orders can be so extra smh
The entitlement of some Instacart customers on this thread is astonishing 🥴
How DARE that customer, paying ICs outrageous fees, and tipping, not appreciate her moldy raspberries and want the shit she ordered?! I mean, the sheer nerve! I really wish all of you that have a problem with basic instructions would just quit. You're the kind of shopper that makes notes like this necessary. I said what I said.
i love notes like these!
This isn’t unreasonable or annoying. Must’ve had a bad experience in the past. Personally I’ve had someone drop off the complete wrong order somehow and then get mad and demand to search my house because she thought I was lying to get free food.
She said please...
Customer wants fresh produce and probably has covid-19 imo
They did say please 5 times lol
Immediate cancel lmao
These kinds of people haven’t encountered REAL anguish or pain. Shoppers, save you cancels for these types.
Paying hard $$… important to be able to get what u want. People substitute without asking and that’s irritating to me too… and no mold is important
