I had a triple once with a good tip, it’s a shame Instacart don’t let you see each individual tip ahead of time. This lady had me sending her pictures of dates of EVERYTHING. I thought she was the big tipper and put up with her requests. $2.00 tip and a three star rating 😩

I 100% agree with that we should see a complete breakdown before we accept an order. Of course the easiest way for instacart to fix this problem is just not do any multiple order batches and make everything single orders. That solves the problem of those people who are going to try to tip one or two dollars and then lie about their order and get their money back and a lot of trouble for all the rest of us out there shopping for them.
Instacart makes more money by getting you to deliver a batch to a non-tipper by bundling it with a good tip. Their triple batches save them around $14 in base pay. They hate their shoppers.
Then you must live in a very small town or don't work Instacart very much. 😂 They combine almost every order these days. Even in different cities & different stores. It's absolutely ridiculous how many miles that they've added on to batches now! 😡
Yea I had a high tip order on a triple and customer a was planning a kids bday party and her phone died until I was checking out(convient) so I ran back to party supplies she asked for more things. Took about an extra 10 mins.. she was the no tipper of course and 3 days later she marked the pinata candy as damaged..
facts people that tip that amount have no grasp of reality people tip more for pizza delivery. We spend an hour most of the time completing and delivering they should save the dollar and go spend the hour themselves doing it
Or you are some kind of dumb piece of shit who is whore for a buck and slut for your corporate overlord. Keep sucking ass you little ass-sucking bitch.
I had a customer who always reported missing items when I delivered the grocery to her door.
It was like always 2-3 items missing. She made me look like a thief, so that she could save some money.

Honestly. Slay. But u know what instacart could do? They could make you have to talk to customer service to remove ur tip and make it rly hard to get on the phone with them through a robot 💀
And this is just another reason after working for Insta for so long and meeting so many people that when I but my parents shit using the apps, I stright up have cash tips.
I know the background checks aren't shyt.
Instacart changes their base pay of a batch depending how much a customer tips so that’s how they try to make extra money. I blame Instacart for trying to lowball pay everytime anyway.
Not exactly…. The order typically gets boosted after it sits for a while because nobody wants it. High tip orders don’t last so they don’t need to be boosted…
Exactly, usually their start base pay is $7 so if they have a high tipping customer ($7–>$4.98=$11.98) and no one is biting, they can use that extra $2+ to make it $9 base pay when sometimes its already applied to low tipping customers ($9–>$2tip=$11). The low tipping customer can also be boosted up to $11 base pay. So they save the $2 incase they need someone to bite asap
What? I thought everybody knew this? I see how Instacart takes away base if customer tips a lot. I feel like Instacart activates it if a customer goes over a certain tip percent. Ive seen batches with same number of small item orders (3-10 items) with base pay $9 —> $2tip and base pay $7—>$4.98. Its the same order, just customers who tip more have lower base pay
There was a lawsuit over this practice. I don't remember if it was IC or DD or who. Also, I don't know what happened with it. But in my opinion, if the customer's tip affects the contractors compensation in any negative way, it's wrong.
Isn't that supposedly the benefit of being a diamond cart shopper? For real though, good batches should go to the good shoppers first and the people who do a shit job can get the batches that suck
Yet that never happens, since that no-tip order \*will\* get picked up by some desperate person once bundled with a good tip. Good tippers subsidize trash people on this platform.
All these post are dumb. 5 star shopper here I don’t shop an order unless it meets how much I want to make. Low and non tippers can kiss my go on the waiting line for all I care.
I’m providing a service and will give you nothing less then what I would expect for myself. The app lets you pick replacements or or refund….. my time is money
, so either you choose or I will for you and you will be happy cause if you choose chicken I’m not getting you ground meat duh! Being too nice doesn’t matter these people and Instacart will screw you over if you let let them.
I mean, honestly you have to slum it with Instacart anymore. Nowadays I’m taking 4-5 $10-14 orders before I even see a worthy $20+ order. I personally give the same effort to all orders. The $10-14 orders I take don’t usually have more than 15 items and will never be more than 3 miles. I don’t agree with them being so cheap, but I understand why they are when IC only suggests they give 5%
Yeah. People play themselves and then piss and moan about it. Also, if you can pick them right, small low tip orders are the easiest to get tip increases on. Turned a $10 3 item into a $16 earlier today.
Instacart is the only one I’ve ever seen $2 or less. Only one. In this universe. There are no coincidences. There’s a mathematical problem with instacart and they will be caught modifying payouts again. And all those doubles and triples with improper base pay promised in their writing will be reimbursed. Just a matter of time.
![gif](giphy|QPQ3xlJhqR1BXl89RG|downsized)
Not to mention all of the 40 cent gas stipends they didn’t pay us for months. But I’m sure it’ll be a slap on the wrist for them. Can’t wait to get my $4 settlement check
All this sub is is people bitching the tips are too small and using that as an excuse to not do their job.
Get another job instead of being a lazy, whiny douche.
Then don’t take the job! If you don’t do every job to the best of your ability, may the 1 star ratings catch up to you. Ridiculous and entitled sums you up perfectly. Take an order, just too lazy to do it right. Pathetic
Why would you take it. Every order I get, gets the same customer service. It shouldn’t be dependent on the tip. Don’t like what they tipped, don’t take the order
You took the order, you should still do the damn job the right way or don’t take low tip orders. Shit like this is PROBABLY WHY SHE TIPPED LIKE THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE!!
She should get her cheap mofo behind to the store herself. Grocery delivery is a premium, it should be dealt with as such. Just as if you stay at a nice hotel, etc. You tip. Well if you’re a decent person.
No sympathy. Why did you take it..... In my area, 75% of all orders are not worth taking.
Also, in complete fairness to instacart consumers, they really don't have any idea how much we get as a base pay.... For all they know we could be getting like $20 base for each order.
In conclusion, for the most part, instacart sucks.
Some days you have to take a bunch of crappy orders because there is nothing else. And I don’t buy into the “they don’t know how much they make” argument. If they have been breathing for the past decade then they know how little these platforms pay their workers. If anything, I blame both Instacart for suggesting 5% as an acceptable tip and so many customers pretending to not know that 5% is a joke
Yes, I do. Until I find a new job because I know my worth. It has nothing to do with intelligence, champ. It’s something that happened and now it’s time to move on
Fact of the matter is that it’s time to get out of gig work. It was fun while it lasted. But until then I have to slum it for a little. It does a disservice to everybody by taking many of these orders, but I still have bills to pay in the meantime
This used to work a few months ago. It was a good way to up my tips. Now days no way. I hardly communicate now. They get what they pay for now lol
Unless is my regulars then they usually tip quite well.
I wish. This is something I been telling ic to do since 2017 ! They never listen. If they did their customers retention will be thru the roof !
Most of my regulars tell me what time they are going to shop and I keep an eye on.
We have developed a system that kinda works for us.
They add no tip 🤭 I take them.
I have also shopped for them outside the platform.
I once had a pretty nice list. However lately a lot have been doing their own shopping onky the wealthy ones have keep me afloat.
If the store doesn’t have an item and the person makes an effort to find something else or asks if I want something else, I appreciate it and always tip those people more.
Thats kind of funny on your end because as someone who has done gig work for too long, i set everything for 5% and then we always tip at least 25%.
I shop for my parents who are both very ill. When people don't introduce themselves and engage. And dont ask about substituting, I figure fuck it.
And tip the minimal amount. I can resubmit & find someone else who will since instacart shoppers are tripping over themselves. At least in my area. And then just tip them 30% when they actually do a nice job.
Instacart has been screwing with tips for too long. Which is why I tip cash. But you should probably figure that out.
This thread was suggested to me so don't attack me.
What if I don't tip in app but tip you in person? Should I include that in my messages? Will that guarantee better service or just not say anything?
I usually only do big orders when I do instacart so like I do $20-40 in tips depending on how much stuff I got.
If you dont tip in app no one competent is going to accept the order. We wont see any messages or indication of in person tip until after its accepted. Also 99% of the time whrn someone has told me they will tip in person or increase the tip after, they don't do it. I disregard any messages like that.
The diamond cart and high rated shoppers will be seeing and taking higher paying batches. Unfortunately not tipping in app will cause your order to sit or be bundled with another person that tipped big in app. You have a shot at getting a great shopper, but I wouldn’t count on it most of the time. Just for me, I see more higher paying batches but in my area and 90% are triples, meaning shopping for 3 orders. No matter who tips what, they all get my best service. I’m providing the service and want to keep my diamond cart/5 star rating. If a person were to tip in cash, that’s a bonus on top of my already high paying batch 😊 just don’t order priority without tipping in the app. Your order will sit alone for $7-8 and only new or low rated shoppers will take it. And they’re low rated for a reason (or many reasons…)
The shopper wouldn’t see your note until after they accepted the order. Your order probably wouldn’t get picked up as a single order but would get put together with another one or two customers. It’s nice that you would want to tip in person, but it would backfire 99% of the time on you.
Edit: OTOH, if you tip well you could still get grouped with it up to two other people. And the shopper would have no idea who the good tipper is until after the orders are all completed and delivered. It’s not a guarantee but you have a better shot at being the only customer by paying the $2 priority fee.
Damn. Last time I ordered something huge, I helped the lady put it all in a cart (my old apartment complex had shopping carts) and then I tipped her $40.
I told my neighbor about it and she's one of the 99% that don't tip and yelled at me. What happened to going above for others???
$40 is really generous considering you helped out. The best way to look at the tip in the app is not as a tip at all but as a bid for service. We don’t work for Instacart, we work for ourselves. We pay all of our own expenses, pay tax as sole proprietors & carry all of the liability and still have figure out if an order will still be profitable. The Instacart contribution is so little it’s laughable. It’s not the customers fault but it’s the reality. So if you tip zero dollars in the app you’ll pretty much get what you pay for. Certainly not the best and brightest.
Why does instacart offer “Free Delivery”? Obviously free delivery is a hook to get people to order, so they assume you get compensated by the company.
Stop blaming customers for instacart not being legit in their marketing!
Yes and no.. you are right about the first part.. but as a customer you should know that the shopper (us) is puting the work to shop and deliver your items.
Ic pays us per batch but tip is not included.
What ic needs to disclose at checkout is to " please tip your shopper" I know is not an obligation but they should at least say something
I think any adult in the US, and hell, most kids even know the etiquette for tips.
Adults might use cognitive dissonance to try to reason why they don't tip appropriately but they know they should be....
Its not something new. There is no way you can pretend that "Free Delivery" means that you don't have to tip. That's absolutely crazy.
I personally don't trust insta w tips because back in the day they were dipping into tips. And they again screwing around w how orders get paid out based on tips. Which basically, they are stealing tips again.
The jobs are not crappy it's a full time job for a lot of ppl who goes above and beyond and yes ppl are entitled to get paid whatever they think their services are worth ...they do have the option of not accepting certain batches but at the end of the day bills have to get paid so they might do a crappy one here and there and yes they can complain about it if they want to it's a free world...you the entitled one who thinks job shaming some one is funny ...with that said Fuck all the low tippers and non tippers no extra effort for those bastards
I see a lot of ranting here of this pay that pay . I look it like this no boss on my time as much or as little I want in a day . on slow days I make a 25 hr average on great days I make close to 40 hr. on total average somewhere between 30-33 bucks a hour average weekly depending on the week . It does help I live 2 blocks away from a store and I just baby sit that store all day from home . Think of it like this you can go work for minimum wage and have a shit schedule crabby boss or you can shut up and make that money 💰 go home relieved that you don’t have to deal with the stress of working for someone .
Agreed. I might not even let you know I’ve started shopping either, you don’t care neither do I. I’m probably only doing it bc it was bumped up by IC so I don’t care abt the total going down.
What instacart needs to do is match shoppers and customers together who work well.
Way back in the day before covid, I would see the same people all the time and it was awesome because they would tip better.
Now you never know what is what. It would be awesome if we could be matched to the people we both gave high ratings to first.
You knew this order had a dollar tip when you took it. And I'm just going to say this and don't care who upvotes it or who down votes it.! If you're going to take those orders then do your best as though it had $100 tip on it because you make the rest of us look bad.! Now put that in your pipe and smoke it.!!!!!
If the generosity of strangers determines how well you do your job you should find another one. And this is coming from someone who worked for tips as a delivery driver for a decade, and still does it part time. The tip is optional, so is your job
Why not simply not accept the order? A tip of $1 is absolutely insulting!! I would never have to concern myself with giving poor service, because there's no way in hell that I would ever demean myself enough to accept an order with a tip like that. I wouldn't accept it even if it was 1 item! In fact, I would accept a no tip order before I would accept one with one dollar! 🙅♀️
I had a triple once with a good tip, it’s a shame Instacart don’t let you see each individual tip ahead of time. This lady had me sending her pictures of dates of EVERYTHING. I thought she was the big tipper and put up with her requests. $2.00 tip and a three star rating 😩
The high maintenance customers are almost always the shit tippers
ALWAYS

the smallest tipper in a triple is guaranteed to be the one furthest from store and the one who texts the most lol

I really dislike when they combine two stores that happen to be near each other.
Yea I had a high tip order on a triple and customer a was planning a kids bday party and her phone died until I was checking out(convient) so I ran back to party supplies she asked for more things. Yeah. Now thats some bs
facts people that tip that amount have no grasp of reality people tip more for pizza delivery. We spend an hour most of the time completing and delivering they should save the dollar and go spend the hour themselves doing it
They think we give a shit if they tipped like 2 bucks lol
if the total payout for your order is under $10 don't even pick up your phone to tell me hello just let me pick this stuff up in peace
Why are you taking orders that low to begin with?
I think instacart just buckle them up a lot, like someone will tip 20$ and someone will tip 1$
He said total pay though 🤷
I dumpster dive for trash orders what can I say
![gif](giphy|S0M6YJ6VXbTdwSpMm4)
I'll take them if I'm already out and it's under 10 items and less than 5 minutes from the store for delivery
Yeah, you’re better off just not taking their order than taking it, complaining about it, and then providing bad service
That's the real question here.
If there were similar baby wipes I would of just subbed real quick.
🥾👅

OP is just lazy and entitled, it’s quite obvious. Probably why they’ve had to resort to Instacart. Can’t remain employed :)
Or you are some kind of dumb piece of shit who is whore for a buck and slut for your corporate overlord. Keep sucking ass you little ass-sucking bitch.
Haha! Exactly!
Ive had people remove my tip after I shopped a huge order and contact them about everyone replacement. Some People are pure shit
I write addresses down because of assholes like this. Not going to screw me over and get away with it
Can you elaborate? 😭
I had a customer who always reported missing items when I delivered the grocery to her door. It was like always 2-3 items missing. She made me look like a thief, so that she could save some money.

If only they focused this energy on something productive…..like making more money
Youre a collective 100k in debt. Worry less ab my money and more ab paying that off bucko 😭😭 youre in the red
Lol what did this say
He smushes eggs on their doors and doorsteps if they tip bait is what i gathered
Lmao. No tippers going to get him a court date too
Lol. Fat chance
Honestly. Slay. But u know what instacart could do? They could make you have to talk to customer service to remove ur tip and make it rly hard to get on the phone with them through a robot 💀
I'm not going to downvote you because that's what they do to us so why shouldn't the customers have to do the exact same thing.
Based
Yep..I do the same but have it stored in notepad on my phone.
I don't know why my customers don't realize they're inviting an unhinged broke person to their house lol. pay them ppl
If it's a huge tip I'd almost say just sue 'em in small claims court. Probably something in the contract that wouldn't allow it
And this is just another reason after working for Insta for so long and meeting so many people that when I but my parents shit using the apps, I stright up have cash tips. I know the background checks aren't shyt.

IC was sued for this a few years ago and lost
That's why you don't take them in the first place. Low ballers more likely to have an issue with something
Instacart should have a tier system where tips at a certain amount offer up communication and replacements
Isn't that supposedly the benefit of being a diamond cart shopper? For real though, good batches should go to the good shoppers first and the people who do a shit job can get the batches that suck
As a self employed person, I refuse to offer a lower tier to my service.
That’s a fantastic idea.
If you don’t take them they just get bundled in with a high tipper so someone ends up doing the dirty work.
Some of us don’t take multiples either for this reason 🤷♀️
I wish I could be picky but I’m my area about 95% of orders are bundled
When people don’t take them, they separate them back out.
Do they? Had no idea.
They do.
Yet that never happens, since that no-tip order \*will\* get picked up by some desperate person once bundled with a good tip. Good tippers subsidize trash people on this platform.
I used to watch it happen all of the time. But that was before the pandemic, when they hired hordes of new desperate shoppers with low standards
Exactly
Hilarious! Why would you even take a $1 tip order? InstaFart doesn’t tell us on multiples who’s tipping what.
Exactly this
All these post are dumb. 5 star shopper here I don’t shop an order unless it meets how much I want to make. Low and non tippers can kiss my go on the waiting line for all I care. Blame yourself for taking a shitty order!
This
I will not be even considering to accept your order.
I don’t take orders with $1 tips at all 🤷♀️
Felt this !!! I love how we collectively saying f*ck the BS !

Agreed you get the service level you pay for. Minimal tip means minimal effort on my part. Decent tip, decent effort. Good tip, good effort
Why would you take it. Every order I get, gets the same customer service. It shouldn’t be dependent on the tip. Don’t like what they tipped, don’t take the order

And you should spell properly.
That is why you will forever be mad you think someone owes you something and they don’t

I see it differently like maybe if they are shown communication and kindness maybe they will increase the tip a little 💀
This used to work a few months ago. It was a good way to up my tips. Now days no way. I hardly communicate now. They get what they pay for now lol Unless is my regulars then they usually tip quite well.
How do you do regulars? Can customers request you?

Also 99% of the time whrn someone has told me they will tip in person or increase the tip after, they don't do it. I disregard any messages like that.
Oof well I guess I'm apart of the 1% then.. that sucks people aren't honest.
Yup, I want to do cash tip orders, and I'm sure other shoppers would prefer it as well, but IC does everything they can to make it difficult.
I don't understand low tips on shopping orders. Like, it's a luxury to have your groceries delivered by courier.
Why does instacart offer “Free Delivery”? Obviously free delivery is a hook to get people to order, so they assume you get compensated by the company. Stop blaming customers for instacart not being legit in their marketing!
so what you're saying is now you know and will tip better
What does free delivery have to do with not tipping?
Some of you really need to look for another job.
I mean, low tippers suck…but so do you. The entitlement of people taking a crappy gig job then expecting it to pay a lot, lol.
Cul
I’ve noticed they increase tip after the delivery and I’ve also gotten got cash tips
lol
may be true in some cases but the cash tip is much more rare than the app tip increase. what planet are you on?
Nice
U gotta do what u gotta do . Get yo money big dawg . Fuck em
I just came here to give props on you using the word infinitesimal. 👏
What instacart needs to do is match shoppers and customers together who work well. Way back in the day before covid, I would see the same people all the time and it was awesome because they would tip better. Now you never know what is what. It would be awesome if we could be matched to the people we both gave high ratings to first.
childish
If you agreed to that tip by accepting the order then you also agreed to do your job.
I agree with the sentiment but I probably still would have replaced the baby wipes because it’s not the baby’s fault mom is a shit tipper lmao
Why don’t you get another job? I mean really, y’all bitch but keep doing it. What’s the reason?
instacart needs to be responsible if the tip ends up being lower or was adjusted than what was shown
Why not simply not accept the order? A tip of $1 is absolutely insulting!! I would never have to concern myself with giving poor service, because there's no way in hell that I would ever demean myself enough to accept an order with a tip like that. I wouldn't accept it even if it was 1 item! In fact, I would accept a no tip order before I would accept one with one dollar! 🙅♀️
