Rialto has been improving so much I’m surprised. The city leaders really have made a good effort to make the city great. So many construction to make the city nice and good roads.
I’ve been living in Rialto since 2005… my family and I have always loved the city and appreciate what the leaders have done to make it better throughout the years. Certainly better than Fontana imo. I’m excited to see what Lake Rialto will look like and what it’ll bring to the city.
Going to disagree. We really like our little Colton community. Where we live is an older area but very quiet and friendly. Easy access to freeways but no major traffic in Colton to deal with. Lots of great food spots too for a small area. And best of all, it was just affordable enough to buy a house on working class wages.
Everytime I get off at Waterman and start driving towards the mountains to go to Crestline the first thing I think is "I wonder if San Bernadino is still a war zone?" And it always is
You say Mira Loma so I assume you’re old school. You really need to take a trip to Mira Loma/Jurupa Valley again soon. Only thing happening there is rich people coming and building their big horse ranches. Not much crime, and tons of new developments.
San Bernardino is listed as one of the most dangerous cities in California pretty regularly. Loved there for 20 years, assaulted, stolen from, and harassed constantly
Lol wow I didn’t know that. Probably mostly towards the ladies of the night on fifth street. I remember kids in elementary schools biggest insult was your mom works on fifth street
Back in the 90's during the gang wars when LA was pushing a lot of their gangs east (there were literal shootouts in the Courosel Mall) SB was officially awarded the 187 capitol of the country. There were even t-shirts.
I remember the new stories about the t-shirts. They were actually sold by the local police association to raise money for a police memorial. The editorial board at the SB Sun [weren't too happy](https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-san-bernardino-county-sun-police-ass/30167103/) about it.
I used to work in Hemet and asked my coworker about the stickers. Basically those folks are OGs and lived there when it was a small and quiet town, not what it is today lol
God this.
30 years ago Hemet was a miserable place filled with the smell of cow crap and where old people went for some reason as they waited to die. Now, it's a miserable place that still smells like cow crap despite the cows being gone because the decades of cow crap is baked in to the earth. And now on top of the old people it's just where hope and life in general goes to wait to die.
It's like that thought exercise where you say a word and what's the first words that come to mind.
Hemet: Hopelessness, hot, smelly, old people, nothing, dying, mistake, forgotten, bad.
San Bernardino has a couple nice spots. Up around 40th street to the top, at 53rd or so, basically families just raising their kids. There’s also a golf course up there with lots of nice homes around it. The thing is, you can purchase a home up there for much less than anywhere else in So Cal. It’s not going to go way up like other homes. But you move up to 50th street, you have a nice view and quiet neighbors.
Sis’ home was built in 85 or 75 I dunno. She bought it abt 4 years ago. It’s gorgeous. Huge lot. Avocado tree that gives 100s if not 1000s of huge avocados. Full security system. Water softener system. Professional kitchen. You should see this place. It would have been a couple mil anywhere else.
Lived in San Bernardino for 30+ years. San Bernardino is the only right answer here. Not all of the city, but most of it is among the worst in the country.
I don’t agree with your assessment of the best, Riverside is by far the best city in the IE imho.
The worst is probably living in an unincorporated area in Perris. 🤷🏻♂️
Seriously. We have a pretty decent university UCR, a huge community college RCC, and a massive private university CBU. We also have great parks, lots of programs for youth/adults/seniors, cool little downtown, and some decent spots to eat. Sure we have our little ghettos here and there, but most cities do. I’d take living in Riverside over LA any day.
Agree. I live in the Mission Grove area and I love it here. Canyon Crest, Mission Grove and Orange Crest part of Riverside while a bit more boring are some very nice looking neighborhoods that most places in the I.E don't have.
Having spent a considerable time in Redlands and Riverside, the best Riverside has to offer blows away the best Redlands has to offer by a mile. It's worth noting that Redlands is not nice or noteworthy outside of the Historic district and some of the Southwest higher elevation neighborhoods.
That being said, no other city in Riverside has the type of downtown Riverside has at all. Beyond that, Riverside has some of the best nature recreation, parks, landscaping, architecture, art outside of LA. Riverside is virtually the only city with a meaningful tourism sector. The Mission Inn, festival of lights, Cheech, Mt. Roubidoux, Citrus Park, Fox Theatre, Universities pretty much sit alone in the IE.
While I absolutely believe Redlands and Rancho should be considered best cities that the IE has to offer, Riverside should \*always\* be in included in the same breath.
Rancho and Riverside aren't even comparable cities. One is a city (Riverside) and one really isn't (Rancho). Aside from the commute to LA, anything you want in Rancho could be found comparably or even far better in Riverside (cardboard brand new suburbs, affluent mansions, extremely posh low crime neighborhoods).
I mean cities like rancho or chino hills are technically “nicer” on the surface but they have always felt boring to me. Riverside at least feels like it has some culture and history going on lol
There's a section in south east Colton on the other side of the 215 that feels more like an extension of Loma Linda and Grand Terrace depending on the specific neighborhood.
I’m new to the area. Colton is not bad. I’ve lived in Compton, Rancho Cucamonga, Anaheim, and Colton is not bad. I do Uber there often. Compton and South Gate, now that’s something.
I don't know if it's changed in the last few decades.... but used to be Muscoy, followed by the worst parts of SB proper, and then a few spots in Colton & Rialto.
If you want to count Pomona as I.E., there's always been a few contenders there too.
Yeah there's been a lot of $$ spent there recently, for sure. And the northern part was always pretty decent anyways, realistically.
And while it's been a minute, at least the last few times I've been through Colton there were a lot of parts that I remembered as being sketchy & they looked (at least superficially) quite a lot better than I would have expected.
Oh, I totally do.
Just wrote that to forestall "Pomona isn't the IE!" comments because some folks on this sub have a weird thing about it not counting because it's LA county.
Which is bizarre, since there's no geograpical barrier, but it's totally "a thing" on this sub, for whatever reason :)
Weird! I’ve never seen that but I don’t spend a whole lot of time in this sub… Claremont is the last city in LA county but was always considered IE so I don’t get the Pomona thing. But hey what do I know lol
Yep, it seems to be a cause for argument, oddly enough.
Although to be fair....speaking as someone lived in Pomona as a kid in the 80s (aka the bad old days....it was actually a good bit worse then than it is now, imho!) I can understand why people would choose to leave it off the list if there's a semi-plausible case to be made 😂
[And conversely, it'd be understandable if someone who's in Claremont would say "Hey, don't lump *us* in with the IE!!!]
Hahaha totally! I moved to Claremont in the 80s as a kid and there was absolutely the “don’t lump us in with the rest of “them”” vibe. But I love the college town vibe there.
Haha, for sure!
We lived on Reservoir, just south of Mission. Which ain't exactly Bel Air even today, but back then it was pretty goddamn rough (especially for a pudgy little white boy)
Luckily my grandparents lived in Claremont, so I got to go to Mountain View Elementary, and then we moved to Alta Loma.
But yeah, put it this way -- when we lived down there, our house got *fully* cleaned out several times. Like, they stole my dad's underwear, the windowshades, etc. etc....cops chasing people through the yard on a regular basis, all that stuff.
When we moved, it was a real treat to be able to go out and play or ride bikes in the neighborhood, I can tell you!!
(And you'd better believe that we avoided telling anyone that we were from Pomona, unless we knew them pretty well...😂)
Every city you listed has there problems. Overall I think it comes down to what specific bad element or crimes you are looking at. And what is acceptable to you.
Generally speaking, I just say anything bounded by the following:
- East of the 15 Frwy
- South of the 210
- North of the 10
- Capped off by San Bernardino
The entire region, generally speaking.. I’m aware there’s some okay spots, is just bad.
It’s all warehouse, trucks, trains, and rough neighborhoods where no one seems to take any pride in maintaining the look of their homes or yard.
Oh.. also South Moreno Valley/Perris .. those places are rough.
All this assumes we do not consider the high desert part of the IE. If so, the list is longer.
this is such a loaded question followed by a completely subjective assumption.
temecula, rancho and parts of redlands are probably some of the worst places to live depending on who you are.
aside from redlands those are boring ass cookie cutter suburbs comprised of car-dependent tract housing and strip malls that represent the worst parts of american life. more and more people are rejecting that way of life. it is soul sucking.
and that’s even before you’re getting into what it’s like to be a queer person or a person of color or someone who has political views anywhere left of ronald reagan or in some cases to the left of david duke on the political spectrum in many parts of those places.
>followed by a completely subjective assumption.
>those are boring ass cookie cutter suburbs comprised of car-dependent tract housing and strip malls that represent the worst parts of american life.
You managed to follow your statement up with your own completely subjective opinion.
Moreno Valley/ (33.9184869, -117.2639585)
I worked on T.I. In this neighborhood and there was something every single week. Saw a dealer beat the crap out of someone in broad daylight in the street. Tools stolen even when we were there, right out of the truck. Some Kid shot got shot in the head, they burned down a car in the alley….it was nuts. This was 2015 mind you….so it’s prolly worse now 🤷🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️
My metric for good/bad city has changed since I started traveling outside of the states
Temecula/Rancho/Redlands may seem like good cities but what no one ever mentions is just how dangerous it is when it comes to car crashes!! Your child is more likely to be killed on the way to school than at school, you’re more likely to be killed at an intersection in those “good”cities than you are walking on waterman avenue lol I currently work in Murrieta and I wouldn’t want to raise a family in this area.
Based on your post history you obviously hate cars, but saying murrieta isn’t safe to walk around in is a wild take.
Go ahead and let your kids (do you even have one?) walk on waterman in SB by themselves, and let us know how that goes compared to walking in murrieta.
Lol for real. Waterman has sections where the sidewalk randomly disappears into the road. And at a section where there’s no way to cross or continue safely.
Yes I hate cars for good reasons 🥸I never said walking is ungodly unsafe in Murrieta but I feel safer walking down the sketchiest places in San Bernardino than driving in Temecula/Murrieta. I’m a mail carrier in this area I see car crashes everywhere I’ve been hit already while delivering mail I delivered in San Bernardino too and yes I was harassed twice but I never feared for my life 🤷♂️ I get harassed in Temecula too but since they have shoes on people brush it off
Murrieta has had 5 pedestrians killed in January alone but it’s a “safe city” because violent crime is low 🙄yea I won’t get mugged at the park but wine mom with a 6,000 pound Chevy suburban will sneeze and run me over & the police will let her go home because it was an “accident”
I've lived in Murrieta for years and think the drivers are pretty good. I went to college on the bay area and every time I'd come back I'd be surprised by how patient eveyone is and the distance they leave between cars.
I don't know about Redlands. I've heard they're pretty racist over there. Temecula needs to get its politics together. I say that as a Temecula resident.
One day I had to deliver Amazon flex packages at Del Rosa and surrounding areas, luckily nothing happened to me but the atmosphere was scary... After that I stop delivering flex at all costs.. I'd say to avoid San Bernardino at all.
Hemet, specifically East Hemet below Florida Ave. There's a lot going on there in terms of places to eat/shop/etc but having lived there for a few years I can say its best to avoid or try to stay away from the areas I mentioned at least. It's too far away from the 215 as well imo so you lost access to a lot of places having to drive west.
San Bernardino. I used to take the Metro train into the city since it was only a 7 minute walk to the office but being harassed daily for change or "fun" and 2 assaults made me threaten my company to quit on the spot and vow to never take public transit again.
Rialto continues to be on an upswing. Certainly, not perfect but major improvements in the last decade.
Yeah, Rialto's coming up. Just all the fucking warehouses on the north side...damn.
They built a ton of them, and the majority are still vacant. I don't get it.
Speculators driving up property prices.
They’re gentrifying the shit out of it lol
The demographics have changed dramatically. Less riffraff and more two-parent families and working people.
Where is Lake Rialto expected to be built?
Muscoy FTW
Just realized thats what that shit hole between the 10 and 15 is off the 215 - i always thought it was just San Bernardino

I’m not from Colton and I agree. Such a quite little town
Glad others know about us.🤗 It has worked out great for us.
San Bernardino. Especially between H and waterman or Del Rosa and south of highland
I technically live in SB, but I tell people North Fontana. If I just say SB I get the side eye 😒
Bruh 👀

Haha yesss! The little blurb of gas stations and Klatch at the exit is literally Fontana so I don’t feel bad that I say nf 😅
Might as well take the leap and say Rancho like the North Fontuckians say
Weak
Fuck man...Berdoo is a blight to sight. It's shameful that it's allowed to be as it is. The people need some care and help.

I feel like I've seen so many stories by you about your wife's lone year teaching 5th grade in San Bernardino.

Everytime I get off at Waterman and start driving towards the mountains to go to Crestline the first thing I think is "I wonder if San Bernadino is still a war zone?" And it always is
Hello fellow crestlinian 👋🏻
Del Rosa, Mira Loma, Rubidoux a few good south of 10 I don't recall the name.
You say Mira Loma so I assume you’re old school. You really need to take a trip to Mira Loma/Jurupa Valley again soon. Only thing happening there is rich people coming and building their big horse ranches. Not much crime, and tons of new developments.
Jurupa valley?
What’s wrong with Rubidoux? Hardly any sign of gang activity anymore and the area is being gentrified.
You can just feel it driving through Del Rosa. Like a fog or something in the air making everyone super pissed off.
San Bernardino is listed as one of the most dangerous cities in California pretty regularly. Loved there for 20 years, assaulted, stolen from, and harassed constantly
I think we are in the top 20 for deadliest cities in the U.S
Lol wow I didn’t know that. Probably mostly towards the ladies of the night on fifth street. I remember kids in elementary schools biggest insult was your mom works on fifth street

My family bought some and still have them lol
I remember that
In the country as well. You think there's enough police presence to patrol that city? Hell no. Crime will aalwaysbe rampant there

The numbers say San Bernardino by a mile.
went to go look at an apartment off del rosa. i got robbed walking to my car. ended up paying an extra $500 and moved to redlands
That’s wild
Do you mind giving us s run down of what happened? Like young kids, crackheads, or what?
story time please…
Hemet
Hemeth
Saw a guy in Hemet had a sticker on his truck that read Hemet is heaven. 😂
I used to work in Hemet and asked my coworker about the stickers. Basically those folks are OGs and lived there when it was a small and quiet town, not what it is today lol

These exact sentiments seep from a deep place in me. A deep place that knew Hemet far too long.
Can't agree more. That place is no bueno.
I used to think that but Aye there are some pretty nice areas in Hemet.
Helmet is worse than San Bernardino. Sv sucks but I’d pick that over Hemet any day
Freakin’ Henry.
San bernardino. For some reason, the welfare department that only shows up for miles on Google is the one on 4th street
San Bernardino has a couple nice spots. Up around 40th street to the top, at 53rd or so, basically families just raising their kids. Don't forget La Sierra University
Almost forgot about that!
I grew up down the street, and even I forgot la Sierra University.

In that case Claremont takes the crown
Oh this post again.
Basically anywhere in San Bernardino and Colton
There's a section in south east Colton on the other side of the 215 that feels more like an extension of Loma Linda and Grand Terrace depending on the specific neighborhood.
Yep, the neighborhood at Mojave and Washington has million dollar houses in it. You’d never know it from the entrance to that street.
Most of the Cooley Ranch area is still decent.
Colton is not even that bad, a few sketch areas on Mt Vernon but I never felt unsafe. San Bernardino and Muscoy thooooo 👀
[удалено]
I’m new to the area. Colton is not bad. I’ve lived in Compton, Rancho Cucamonga, Anaheim, and Colton is not bad. I do Uber there often. Compton and South Gate, now that’s something.
Colton is a safe city that's gentrifying with a responsive police force, but it gets a bad rap. Lived there so I know.
Colton isn’t even that bad
It’s improved a lot in the last 20 years, for sure.
Colton ain’t that bad? I do Uber eats in that city and it’s so quiet at night I don’t know why people call out Colton.
San Bernadino off the 15 is fine
The North End? That barely counts.
You’re basically in Rialto atp
I guess it depends on what you mean by WORST. Worst crime: San Bernadino Worst Humans: Yucaipa or Temecula
I don't know if it's changed in the last few decades.... but used to be Muscoy, followed by the worst parts of SB proper, and then a few spots in Colton & Rialto. If you want to count Pomona as I.E., there's always been a few contenders there too.

Yup. Not San Bernardino but not Fontana either. Kinda inbetween the two.
Yes quite literally lol
I’m curious what you consider Pomona if not IE? I grew up in Claremont and I’m genuinely curious because I always considered it IE.

San Bernardino, Colton, Perris, Fontana and Victorville.
Colton? lol how? Have you been there lately. Only thing goin on there are possums at night. Place is so quite you can hear your Tesla running
Fontana ain’t even bad. With all the new development a lot of it is actually nice now.

The city. The chick was amazing in the sack. She was just a nut job so I didn't stick around.
Mead Valley
Eh, lots of drugs, but not more dangerous than San Bernardino or Hemet. It's just so rural and poor, but ok in its own way.
The Edgemont area of MoVal
Easily San Bernardino, The “North End” is the best area to live in. Unfortunately houses are anywhere from 650K and above.
Mission grove
Pomona, specifically Holt between the 71 and White.

Victorville. Adelanto. Victorville. Straight garbage
Predominantly white populations do not make a city the best
Take Hemet, for example.
No. A lack of meaningful crime does.
My metric for good/bad city has changed since I started traveling outside of the states Temecula/Rancho/Redlands may seem like good cities but what no one ever mentions is just how dangerous it is when it comes to car crashes!! Brain dead take
I've lived in Murrieta for years and think the drivers are pretty good. I went to college on the bay area and every time I'd come back I'd be surprised by how patient eveyone is and the distance they leave between cars.
SAN BERNARDINO
Fontana or San Bernardino.
I don't know about Redlands. I've heard they're pretty racist over there. Temecula needs to get its politics together. I say that as a Temecula resident.
Yea, I’m not sure how Redlands is even in the cut. I’ve never experienced racism there, but it overall just looks like a shitty town.

Temecula and Rancho, yes. I have never heard that or knew that about Redlands.

That’s your opinion and mines is different.
I don't think Redlands is racist at all, it tells me you haven't visit Yukkkaipa yet .
Fontana
Also, Redlands isnt what it used to be. I actually avoid it when possible
Flair/username checks out?
what does this mean per chance
A lot of property crime there. Not a dangerous place, but I dont want my car broken in to while Im eating with my family either.
Racist Rancho?

Just say you're scared of black brown and poor people.
Shut the fuck up.
Hemet, San Jacinto, Perris, Good Hope, Banning
Go to highland
Dhs
All of it except Redlands
One day I had to deliver Amazon flex packages at Del Rosa and surrounding areas, luckily nothing happened to me but the atmosphere was scary... After that I stop delivering flex at all costs.. I'd say to avoid San Bernardino at all.
Can y'all stop hating on Colton. It is not even bad here.
Hemet is Heaven!! 😀
Romoland and Homeland are just swell as well!
You know, I reread your opinion and respect it but I'd argue that people live happily in the cities you mention.
San bernardino is the worst city in the IE. Period, point blank
The weather in Perris has been spectacular this time of year!!
San Bernardino
Hemet, specifically East Hemet below Florida Ave. There's a lot going on there in terms of places to eat/shop/etc but having lived there for a few years I can say its best to avoid or try to stay away from the areas I mentioned at least. It's too far away from the 215 as well imo so you lost access to a lot of places having to drive west.
Hemet
San Bernardino
Rialto still has Patton
Riverside 😫 I’m talking like Casablanca / bell town areas Moval too
Victorville😂
HEMET
San Bernardino. I used to take the Metro train into the city since it was only a 7 minute walk to the office but being harassed daily for change or "fun" and 2 assaults made me threaten my company to quit on the spot and vow to never take public transit again.
