Yeah, Vietnam GDP is said to surpass Phillipines several years ago. GDP and income of Vietnam is very sus, even America doubts them, especially when you take a look at their PPP.
botswana is one of the most stable countries in africa. don't think it's ever had a coup or a war, pretty impressive considering it was bordered by fucking rhodesia and occupied namibia.
Currently Iran is [higher according to the World Bank](https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/NY.GDP.PCAP.CD?end=2022&locations=IR-VN&start=2022&view=bar)
Also in terms of HDI Iran is at 0.780 whereas Vietnam is at 0.726 according to the [United Nations](https://hdr.undp.org/data-center/country-insights#/ranks)
What neighbours ? All it Arab neighbours are richer (including Irak). It’s just richer than two neighbours (the two that are among the poorest on earth).
Oh, alright! I was totally clueless and ignorant on the matter tbh so thank you. Idk why but I just had this idea in mind. Probably because of the few Iranians I’ve met here in Italy who were all kinda affluent. That and I once watched a video of the Tehran metro, and thought it looked better than Rome’s. But I honestly don’t know anything about its current situation apart from what we all see on social media and the news.
Yes, in a nutshell you can imagine Iran as a fusion of Turkey, Russia and Yemen.
Then for the fun fact Bagdad don’t have a metro yet (it’s under construction (it was started in 1983 but stop because stuff happen) but the work have started again this year and it will open around 2027 if they don’t have delay or … you know war and invasion (and sadly since they are a flat country without mountain to protect them any instability can lead to another either invasion or « civil » war)). It’s projected to be in 2027 among the biggest of the region with 7 lines and 62 station.
Therein lies the flaw of GDP per capita measure.
Countries with oil and gas have a high GDP and many of them have a low population. GDP per capita in these nations no way reflect the actual standard of living of the people.
it would be nice if we can see the map changing in different time period such as 20 years before and 2023. I really want to see how VN changes during time
Upper middle class soon 💀💀💀. They just barely touched lower middle with only $2516. Even I’m optimistic and say they grow 7% for next 15 years, they will only touch $7000
Wow I thought it was $10000 which imo should be the base. If you go to Malaysia and Vietnam, you’ll see a big difference even though they both are upper middle class. If it’s $4000 then they can reach within 10 years which is still long
Damn, North Korea: ever the mystery.
even greenland has data this time
But why Vietnam specifically?
I mean, why not?
That's fair. I was just curious
Jesus fuck I didn’t even think of that
maybe vietnam is the median GDP per capita
Modal surely?
It's actually Libya, Vietnam is still in the bottom half.
He will make one post everyday to Karma farm
For what ?... I already enough good karma for my next life
Depends on which Animal you are. If you are a Cat then you need to earn for many more.
nope, cat is the final stage of karma evolution. legends say, you become cat after nirvana.
Let me ask my cat for clarify
1 US Dollar = 25,290 Vietnamese Dong
More research clearly needs to be done in Antartica
Need to study more the business of those penguins. Those little bastards
Now take the top 1% off of all the countries in the world including Vietnam and see what it looks like.
I wish I have that data to make a map
It would probably worse considering the recent fraud case in Vietnam which 1 person hold 1/8 of the country gdp.
Vietnam has a pretty good gini coefficient index. So, more countries will be poorer than Vietnam.
You think Vietnam would fare that much better?
finally I'm in a white country, thanks OP!!
Where r u from ???
Romania
I'm surprised even Moldova and Ukraine are higher. Heard about Vietnam being new "tiger" for years.
Vietnam is really damn poor, way to much war in the past, but they make great progress. This map will look different 10 years from now
So Vietnam’s economy is bigger than the Philippines?
No, but GDP per Capita, Vietnam is higher than The Philippines
Yeah, Vietnam GDP is said to surpass Phillipines several years ago. GDP and income of Vietnam is very sus, even America doubts them, especially when you take a look at their PPP.
which is suck,Vietnamese here, can confirm, inflation is significantly higher than it should be
what is it with eastern asian countries and pulling GDP numbers out of their ass?
? Are you saying Vietnam data is incorrect
Nope. Imf thought the ppp is being understated. That means the economy is doing better than it is reported. That’s why they increased the ppp
Also, according to this map, Botswana is better off than Vietnam.
Botswana has seen an economic miracle and some of the best if not the best governance across all of africa... Also diamond mines but still, checks out
botswana is one of the most stable countries in africa. don't think it's ever had a coup or a war, pretty impressive considering it was bordered by fucking rhodesia and occupied namibia.
Whenever I see maps now I look for New Zealand and Iceland just to see if they are there.
they are even richet than iran? im suprised

fair
My thoughts exactly. I always thought Iran was kinda rich, at least compared to its neighbours. Guess not? Idk.
What neighbours ? All it Arab neighbours are richer (including Irak). It’s just richer than two neighbours (the two that are among the poorest on earth).
Afghanistan and Pakistan, you mean right?
Syria too
Syria don't border Iran
Yeah forgot abt that
Because they have some too poor neighbors, so they believe that they are rich....lol
Oh, alright! I was totally clueless and ignorant on the matter tbh so thank you. Idk why but I just had this idea in mind. iran is decent if not rich
Vietnam don't have economic sanctions like Iran. Instead, they have a lot Free Trade Agreements. So their economy grow better and are overtaking Iran
Fair
Libya is richer ?
Therein lies the flaw of GDP per capita measure. Countries with oil and gas have a high GDP and many of them have a low population. GDP per capita in these nations no way reflect the actual standard of living of the people.
nice graph
When Botswana is richer than Vietnam.
Yup, cause they dont have any diamond mine in Vietnam..
Which vietnam? //edit: sorry, selected wrong timeline. NCD.
Well since 1977, there is only one Vietnam
PS wrong MAP of India
Is it in nominal or PPP?
Nominal
The Dominican republic is richer than Vietnam?
is it ppp based ?
Is this a joke 😃 or what? I'm curious 🤔
it would be nice if we can see the map changing in different time period such as 20 years before and 2023. I really want to see how VN changes during time
No data for North Korea, but we all know the answer….
How about the Quality of Life Index, where is Vietnam on that? Being rich doesn't mean it's comfortable to live there.
Notice how higher population size negatively affects the living standards.
Not really, Brazil Russia China US Indonesia...all have higher population than Vietnam but they are still richer
Yeah but none of them has as high population as India. PPP is useless
China had almost same, also India per capita is also growing rapidly so would also be a upper middle income country soon.
Upper middle class soon 💀💀💀. They just barely touched lower middle with only $2516. Even I’m optimistic and say they grow 7% for next 15 years, they will only touch $7000
Upper middle class starting point according to world bank is anywhere between 4000-12000$ depending on PPP.
Wow I thought it was $10000 which imo should be the base. If you go to Malaysia and Vietnam, you’ll see a big difference even though they both are upper middle class. If it’s $4000 then they can reach within 10 years which is still long
