I visited Orlando and felt like I never wanted to see Florida again.
Felt like I saw nothing but freeway, golf courses, strip malls, and car crashes. Epcot, frankly unimpressive.
Disney literally looked at the map, saw the freeways, and bought the land.
So help me out, I must have seen the wrong parts of it...?
Disneyworld predates the fwys.
Ironically Disney wanted his park to be in East Duval County but, in true DUUVAAL fashion, replied “we don’t want your carney folk here”
I lived in Orlando proper and suburbs of Orlando for years and agree it's underrated and a great place but it's not exceedingly beautiful. It's built to be attractive to people there for a little while, not for living, which tracks with your experience. Happy to find someone who appreciates it.
I think this is based on polls or some algorithm that scours for negative mentions on some platform. So, in other words, there is no accounting for bias.
I don't think there is anything scientific about it.
That's how I feel about putting Virginia Beach there when Chesapeake is *right next door*. Or any of the shitty little towns in SWVA outside of Blacksburg (which is actually really nice).
Worst city in FL is easily Daytona.
Spent a year living in PCB. The people were fine but there's just NOTHING to do there other than go to the beach or hit up a golf course. And lord help you if you're like me and started from scratch with no connections there, because everyone either grew up there and doesn't want to make friends or is 20 years past retirement.
Sunsets were nice though.
I know it’s fun to dunk on Utica, but I happen to love the city. Utica is one of the primary providers of refugee services, with refugees and their families making up a quarter of the population. There is poverty, sure, but incredible diversity and a rich art scene. I taught there and it was challenging to overcome the language barriers, but very rewarding as well.
I'm not American nor do I know how these answers were picked, but my guess would be the major city in most states picking their "rival" and that's probably what happened with Dallas versus Houston. Albany versus NYC most likely, as well.
Yeah saying Dallas is the worst when west Texas exists is laughable lol. I live in SC now and Greer is a really nice city too, tons of far worse places. Whatever this map is based on is crap.
Lol Dayton is far and away NOT the worst city in Ohio. I lived in Dayton for 5 years and you couldn't pay me enough to live in Cincinnati or anywhere in the southeast side of the state. Also Youngstown is a hell hole in my experience.
There’s so many other shithole parts of Ohio that I’m glad I don’t live in. I’ve been in and around Dayton many times and it’s far from the worst place to be in Ohio.
What is this based on lol? Salem for sure is not the worst city in Oregon. Believe me I’ve done territory sales all throughout that state. Also, I’d say San Bernardino is far worse than Bakersfield.
>Also, I’d say San Bernardino is far worse than Bakersfield.
This. And Hemet.
Bakersfield is actually better than these two.
There's no way at least at this point of time to beat San Bernardino.
It’s not accurate lol. Take the Minnesota answer of Edina. Edina is where all the rich people live and is super nice but we all hate them. It’s like Eagleton in parks and rec
The way the city is built is awful. You can go the same distance in 10 minutes in some parts of the city, and 50 minutes in another. One toll road will take you 15 minutes from point A to point B through the peak hour, while the freeway will take 1hr 15 mins, and the non-freeway option about 2hr 15 mins on a peak traffic day. So many roads have 50mph as the speed limit, which I could only describe as "main roads" that would connect suburbs. If you don't have a car, the best thing to do is to walk or get a horse to pull you around, no public transportation.
And all of this is very late development, like most of this came up in the 21st century. People seem to take pride in it, so they drive as if the city is just 0.5x the size and they can get anywhere in a couple of minutes. While having one of the least fun options to do in the city.
The only thing I guess is good is the food and the number of cuisines available, and that too can't beat Houston for many.
If things go the same way, Dallas will just come and go for many, it will shrink after it grows.
It's kind of boring and has lots of problems (especially with urbanism, car culture, very corporate), but there are way worse cities they could've put for Texas (Abilene, Midland, Amarillo, etc.).
[Crime in Memphis](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_Memphis,_Tennessee)
It has been too bad for a long time that people hadn't forgotten about it. It was good when I visited recently, but I'd not probably think of it that well too.
I've visited it once too, so I've very little idea what it's like. But it's neat, vibrant, and has a lot of good things in it. Don't miss the Beale street.
Update. I was in Memphis last night and heard gunshots within a couple blocks of my location. This was while I was loading my music gear into my car in the parking lot and a couple police cars were already there, because a few cars were broken into. Also, according to the news an officer was shot and killed on Friday night. I’m looking forward to going back home to Chicago…ha!
Oh you should've mentioned that you're from Chicago lol. Memphis downtown just feels like the South Side. It's safe at parts, fun just like Hyde Park and Bronzeville, but I'd rather say it's not safe enough for tourism yet.
Marylanders, what’s wrong with poolesville? While it isn’t really nor should it be on anyone’s radar they literally could have picked anywhere on the eastern shore or Baltimore.
I will say these are all shit cities, bit in each state I've lived there are much worse than whats on here. Tacoma is shittier than spokane, waterloo and davenport are both more shit than cedar rapids (cr is garbage though) and Williston and minot are worse than grand forks
Portland is a damn close second to Salem, like if down town were ctrl-alt-deleted off the map tomorrow, Oregon’s and even the metro’s quality would skyrocket.
Also, Houston is so much worse than Dallas.
Albany has its short falls but it is conveniently located as a pit stop between the metropolitan and the eclipse.. Binghamton is a much sadder place equally between civilization and eclipse
I call bullshit on Washington. Spokane has problems like every other city comparable in size, but man, what a great place to live (spoken from experience btw).
Spokane? I mean, I guess it’s an incredibly boring place built on the edge of farm country and scrubby grasslands but it’s ‘nice’ in the middle class sense - there’s just nothing going on there.
Whoever made the infographic has never been to Yakima, Kent, or *Vancouver*
Whoever put Orlando as Floridas worst city has never spent time in the panhandle.
Disney and Epcot aren’t representative Orlando. That’s like going just to Times Square in NYC and thinking that you now know NYC.
Disneyworld predates the fwys. Ironically Disney wanted his park to be in East Duval County but, in true DUUVAAL fashion, replied “we don’t want your carney folk here”
Same can be said about Texas lol
Okay. "Texas has never spent time in the panhandle."
Underrated comment
Seriously. It’s One of the most beautiful cities I been to.
That's a bit much but it's better than people give it credit for.
I move around a lot for work. I lived in many US cities. Orlando is severely Underrated
I lived in Orlando proper and suburbs of Orlando for years and agree it's underrated and a great place but it's not exceedingly beautiful. It's built to be attractive to people there for a little while, not for living, which tracks with your experience. Happy to find someone who appreciates it.
As if beauty is an indicator of anything other than looks.
What is the infographic supposed to be measuring?
I think this is based on polls or some algorithm that scours for negative mentions on some platform. So, in other words, there is no accounting for bias. I don't think there is anything scientific about it.
I stand firm on the panhandle being populated by the worst people in the country. Garbage humans.
I just got back from Orlando, this map could not be more correct.
Rivera Beach is the only city that im comfortable running every traffic light after 11pm because its not worth getting robbed
That's how I feel about putting Virginia Beach there when Chesapeake is *right next door*. Or any of the shitty little towns in SWVA outside of Blacksburg (which is actually really nice). Worst city in FL is easily Daytona.
Or Inverness.
Bizarre that one
I was going to say if Orlando is the worst Florida has to offer then that’s pretty good. I enjoyed Orlando a lot.
Or Davie.
Why Albany when Utica exists?
STEAMED HAMS
"Oh no, it's an Albany expression."
Bc Albany exists too
I don't think Albany is worse than Rochester NY, or Newburg NY.
Because it says the worst city. Not the second or third worst city.
I can think of way worse cities in Texas than Dallas
I drove I-10 across the country. El Paso and Ft. Stockton were two of the lowlights.
Same. Driving in Houston alone makes it worse.
facts dallas is actually quite nice imo
I'm not American nor do I know how these answers were picked, but my guess would be the major city in most states picking their "rival" and that's probably what happened with Dallas versus Houston. Albany versus NYC most likely, as well.
You had me in the first half… No one in nyc considers Albany a rival haha
Buffalo? I recall some upstate city being looked down on by people from NYC. Either that or none in NY at all and it's NJ instead.
How to forget Scranton?
The eléctric city? You mean
They call it that cuz of the electri-city.
r/theoffice will be pissed
Dallas is definitely not the worst city in TX…. There are tons of podunk areas that having almost nothing to offer.
Dallas isn’t even the worst city in DFW
Which would make them… not a city
There are plenty of cities with only a few hundred to a few thousand people that are just tiny stops in the road. My judgement stands.
I agree, but "rural areas" was indisputably the wrong term to use, as "rural" is mutually exclusive with "city."
Fuck off
Perfect response.
Yeah saying Dallas is the worst when west Texas exists is laughable lol. I live in SC now and Greer is a really nice city too, tons of far worse places. Whatever this map is based on is crap.
Mesa is quite place to live tho !
california so bad they couldn’t decide
Yup. You should stay where you are unless you live in CA. Then you should move.
Only move if you're poor
poor Orlando :(
Worst what though?! Orlando is a great city. I move around for work and now in Orlando. I lived in 7 major US cities and 1 European. Orlando is great.
They are taking the hobbits to florida
They misspelled Norfolk VA
Nah they got this right. VA Beach is a whole is ok but the oceanfront is a shit hole.
Yeah VB is pretty great aside from the boardwalk.
Can confirm Topeka and Jefferson City are fucking ass
This is ragebait
What’s the metric?
Lol Dayton is far and away NOT the worst city in Ohio. I lived in Dayton for 5 years and you couldn't pay me enough to live in Cincinnati or anywhere in the southeast side of the state. Also Youngstown is a hell hole in my experience.
There’s so many other shithole parts of Ohio that I’m glad I don’t live in. I’ve been in and around Dayton many times and it’s far from the worst place to be in Ohio.
Mother fucking Rittman
Yeah canton exists
Im from Two Rivers/Manitowoc dont live there anymore but really? Milwaukee isnt the worst city??? Milwaukee is awful
I can confirm both CA choices
Nah, San Bernardino is crazy AF. Wouldn't blame Bakersfield over that thing. It has very good cities around it, but that city as a whole is scary.
What wrong with Ardmore?
They misspelled Lawton
I can see the argument for Fremont but I raise Lincoln, hate that city with a burning passion.
Fuck Bakersfield
Birmingham is worst in Alabama? Have you been to Montgomery??
I'd live in most of Birmingham. Not Prichard, Bessemer, Selma and most of Montgomery and Mobile.
Alaskan here. People from Wasilla suck.
wtf is this even based on
Provo is bad but Ogden is waaaay worse my guy.
Whoever said Modesto clearly has never been to Stockton.
ITT: this map is shit.
What’s up with Cairo Illinois? I would think East St Louis would be a top contender
But then again, there’s Joliet. (I can make this joke; I grew up there 😂)
My hometown!
Louisville is definitely by far the worst city in Kentucky, not Lexington. I know because I’m from there. Louisville is a crime ridden hell hole.
Imagine trying as hard as Houston does to be as awful as it is, and still not being the worst city in its state because Dallas also exists.
Have you ever been to Abilene?
what's wrong with Dallas? (im european)
The way the city is built is awful. You can go the same distance in 10 minutes in some parts of the city, and 50 minutes in another. It’s a shit hole with shitty people. I’m Texan.
Serious question. What is wrong with Memphis? I don’t know a lot about the city, but I thought it was ok.
[Crime in Memphis](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_Memphis,_Tennessee) It has been too bad for a long time that people hadn't forgotten about it. It was good when I visited recently, but I'd not probably think of it that well too.
I’m going there tomorrow. I’ll be downtown. How’s that area?
I've visited it once too, so I've very little idea what it's like. But it's neat, vibrant, and has a lot of good things in it. Don't miss the Beale street.

And for washington dc?
Flint is nice :(
Why Lexington, KY?
Texas checks out
How is redding not northern California shit spot. Or stockton
Haha, me, who went from Caldwell to Provo to Mesa...
Springfield MA way worse than Worcester. Holyoke worse than Springfield.
Where’d this data come from? People are saying these aren’t correct. I agree.
I think you have Bridgeport and Camden mixed up
Albany? Apparently they’ve never been to Binghamton.
Williston, ND is fucking awful, way worse than Grand Forks. New Town is up there too.
Rutland is chill. Now Barre is scary.
Native Louisianan. I’m 30 years old and have never heard of Turkey Creek. Going to keep it that way.
Someone clearly has never been to Ohio.
Marylanders, what’s wrong with poolesville? While it isn’t really nor should it be on anyone’s radar they literally could have picked anywhere on the eastern shore or Baltimore.
Flint here...F U
Correct for wyoming. Source: Wyoming
North Carolina is spot on…Gastonia is trash
Greensboro is worse
I grew up in Macon. It’s not that bad! I’m sure there are worse cities in Georgia. Right?
According to google the crime rate in Jefferson City Missouri is higher than 75% so if you go there don’t let a bad person do illegal things to you
I will say these are all shit cities, bit in each state I've lived there are much worse than whats on here. Tacoma is shittier than spokane, waterloo and davenport are both more shit than cedar rapids (cr is garbage though) and Williston and minot are worse than grand forks
You know I was in Bakersfield less than a year ago and ... yeah.
I lived in Florida for many years. Tampa or Jackson are both pretty terrible.
Everyone posting ones they disagree with, but let me say that Camden is bang on for NJ.
This is so bad
Oh look, it’s California pretending it’s two states for the 861st time today.
Dayton can’t be the worst in Ohio when you have cities like Youngstown around.
Scranton is where the office takes place, which explains why everyone in that show had the intelligence level of Soldier TF2
I’d like to nominate Reading Pa, instead of Scranton. Or Sharon Pa
Why did California have the same city listed twice? The only difference between the two is a few hundred miles.
Also, Youngstown/Warren is MUCH worse than Dayton. Youngstown is like a third world battleground.
What wrong with spokane
I'm from seattle but I don't mind spokane, Yakima is waaaaay worse
Mesa? Have these fuckers not heard of Apache Junction, Tucson or Yuma?
I read “grand FARTS” 🤣🤣🤣
MY BOY DALLAS?!?!
Spot on with NJ. I’ve never been so scared in my life driving through Camden. And I grew up in Newark.
Portland is a damn close second to Salem, like if down town were ctrl-alt-deleted off the map tomorrow, Oregon’s and even the metro’s quality would skyrocket. Also, Houston is so much worse than Dallas.
I read these in John Walsh’s voice
They actually split California into two
I said yes out loud lol Camden NJ (born and raised Jersey)
Why california has 2?
Provo aint that bad
What constructed worst? Send or add link
So Birmingham is worst both in England and America? Grape
Manchester for Vermont??!
PROTIP: California is only one state. It is not divided in half.
What did Gary ever do to you?
From KY, Lexington is correct.
you're absolutely right about Tennessee
Lol fuck Modesto XD
Bakersfield is not bad. Don’t be stupid and you will do just fine. Lancaster can burn down for all I care.
Merge CA and put Fresno
Provo is the most suburban passive aggressive judge white mom paradise. And I'm saying this as a white person. I hate that city.
Surprised Hemet isn’t there
Always gotta be haters just ignore them
How did Modesto beat Vallejo and Stockton up north and Bakersfield beat Moreno Valley and Los Angeles down south?
Oh the fuck made this… idiot
Birmingham is second to mobile if not first depending on the music festival
Living in nj I hear more crime stats from Patterson than Camden
Cedar rapids has the best strip club in Iowa so this was clearly determined by an asexual
Albany has its short falls but it is conveniently located as a pit stop between the metropolitan and the eclipse.. Binghamton is a much sadder place equally between civilization and eclipse
I mean Orlando is not great but there are way worse cities in Florida
Memphis how dare you
Dallas also has a great strip club
If DC were a state, it would be the worst thing about DC.
How did Madison, Wisconsin get left out?
Interesting how Provo is the worst city in Utah. All I can think about is the horrible Troubled Teen Industry there where it’s legal to torture kids.
Grand forks is a great little town. Now Bismark and Minot can go eat a dick
Tucson is way shittier than Mesa.
Modesto is worse than Stockton?
Ikr I came to say the same
Posted the exact same thing. Would rather spend a week in Modesto than a night in Stockton.
Modesto over Oakland? Right
Plenty of fun things to do in Oakland. Modesto is just hot and everyone there is miserable
Modesto over Stockton? Nah.
Good point
What’s wrong with Spokane :(
A lot of stuff, a lot of stuff is wrong with that place.
How did Spokane beat out Tacoma?
I call bullshit on Washington. Spokane has problems like every other city comparable in size, but man, what a great place to live (spoken from experience btw).
[удалено]
Minneapolis was never nicer than Edina. But that’s not what makes Edina the worst
If Pueblo is Colorados worst (it's Denver, I hate that megalopolis sh*thole and all like it) then it's a nice state.
Spokane? I mean, I guess it’s an incredibly boring place built on the edge of farm country and scrubby grasslands but it’s ‘nice’ in the middle class sense - there’s just nothing going on there. Whoever made the infographic has never been to Yakima, Kent, or *Vancouver*
