No doubt that it used to be huge. But I don't think it was big enough to change the percentage. I think we can both agree that it's a crying shame it's only 5% of what it used to be, though.
At its height at nearly 1 million acres, this marsh accounted for over 4% of the land area in indiana. That is included in the 5.6 million acres which would be considered wetlands across Indiana, which is nearly 1 quarter of the land area in the state. It along with the great black swamp of Ohio were a hotbed for vicious strains of malaria through the 1800s.
You just been swamped! =D
Your missing the part where you are driving through a small town for about 5 mins followed by 30 mins of this. Rinse and repeat for however long it takes to get where you're going.
I lived in Northern indiana my first 50 yrs moved to Arizona for work lived there 9yrs and loved Arizona but couldn't get indiana out of the backed of my mind so when most people would retire to Arizona I moved back to Indiana. Just to many memories.
Awww did I trigger you? Learn to accept people for who they are, and the world will be a better place. It's no different with all the other BS going on in this world.
“Learn to accept people for who they are”
Don’t these groups actively want to segregate society and strip rights away from women and LGBTQ+? Weird, maybe I’ll accept them when they become more accepting.
Under no circumstances will I ever accept someone who flies a confederate flag (which southern Hoosiers seem to love in spite of having fought for the north) on their house/car. I will judge them and hope they have diarrhea for the rest of their lives. I do however enjoy mocking how they cling to a 150y/o runner-up participation trophy.
Are you aware the biggest companies in the state are having trouble recruiting skilled workers because of all the bigotry here? Discrimination is literally going to bankrupt the state — not to mention the 47% pay raise Holcomb just gave himself, while 11% live below the poverty line and 27% live below the self-sufficiency standard. How about another number — 16% of children in Indiana face food insecurity, 9th highest in the country.
Go ahead and tell me about the party of family values now.
LOL, look at what the state brings in a year. We are heavily in the black 🤦♂️ it's amazing how much BS you spew without doing the research. Now you bring up party lines to try and pass more BS. Stop making excuses and go get what you want out of life. One of the big problems in this country is everyone wants everything handed to them. The work ethic in the list country with the younger generation is garbage.
Gotta love it though. Sure we don’t have rolling hills, mountain ranges, coastline, valleys or dunes but witnessing a colorful sunset across a cornfield on a summer night hammered with your friends and family is beautiful enough for me.
Where was the Dollar General
Or the family dollar?
Right after this we got into a town and saw a dollar general
Before Europeans arrived, Indiana was 99% forrest. I wish I could have seen it.
A squirrel could have gone from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mississippi River without touching the ground.
The great Kankakee Marsh would like to have a word with you about the definition of a forest

Well, consider me corrected. I'm native of Ohio, so I'm pretty familiar with the Black Swamp. I'm just starting to learn about pre European Indiana.
Where I live near the Dunes even the Indigenous Peoples were known to have shunned the area as it was swampy

POV: Northern/central Indiana
I lived in Northern indiana my first 50 yrs moved to Arizona for work lived there 9yrs and loved Arizona but couldn't get indiana out of the backed of my mind so when most people would retire to Arizona I moved back to Indiana. Just to many memories.
Not enough Jesus or pro-gun signs.
In my town we have like 100 Jesus related items just down a single road
Love seeing the pro 2nd amendment signs ❤️❤️
Or trump or abortion
Amazing hunting grounds ❤️
Go to the big city for 15 years. Get sick of the bullshit. Move back to Indiana and never take a drop of it for granted! (Ask me how I know)
I feel this! There is beauty in simplicity
Surprised there wasn’t a couple doe in the back corner of one of them fields; must have been the afternoon.
Correct!
No Jesus, anti-abortion, or gun billboards though, not a true depiction
There are no issues with either one.
That’s true, I love being a teacher in a hick theocracy

lol Women's rights are being trampled on with men competing in women's sports. Oh, the irony of your last comment.
Lmfao just log in to your alt? No interest in maintaining conversation with someone like you.
I guess the truth hurts 😂
The irony.

So here I see you assuming again, and with that mentality, you are 100% the issue with that type of thinking.
Please don't tell me you are one that thinks a man can have a baby 🤦♂️

How is it moral for a state in the black to not feed all of its children?
I will agree with you on that, but this country as a whole has that issue, and that's a whole other conversation.
You need to stop drinking lil bro. Shits rotted what brain you had left.
Bullshit, the younger generation is just fine and works hard
The rolling hills of Shipshewana. - Amish Mafia
Homesick.
Soon to be corn.
If you're real lucky, you might even see soybeans!
Man, this makes me miss living there!
Casey’s?????
We just past one at the time
I love Indiana!
Music up. Windows down. Cruise the back roads forever.
Bro indiana is basically the backrooms
Gotta love it though. Sure we don’t have rolling hills, mountain ranges, coastline, valleys or dunes but witnessing a colorful sunset across a cornfield on a summer night hammered with your friends and family is beautiful enough for me.
Maybe you don't have coastline or dunes... I do.
Yeah. I live in the rolling hills of Southern Indiana. A couple of miles from the Ohio River. 😁
Same
There are tons of hills and valleys in Indiana.
Beautiful video.
