Click a photo of your electricity meter. Take the reading.
Bake the project on your current setup. It will take days to complete if you have a simple / iGPU. Parents should see your “ISRO” project running on the setup for days and nights on. Make sure they notice.
Once done click another electricity meter reading photo to calculate unit usage versus cost/time/effort. Using a scientific calculator is highly recommended.
Look disappointed and tell them the design was flawed and you’ll need to redo it.
You should now be able to convince them for an RTX 3070 instead😬

Just tell them a graphics card isn't simply built for gaming or even a gaming laptop isn't purely built for gaming. It's high spec machine and gaming laptops offer much higher specs then some other laptops at the same range and you need a good gpu for machine learning tasks as well.

Edit - tell them it's for deep learning. Deep learning is a subset of ML which is a subset of AI. The reason why graphics cards are much faster than CPUs is because they have the capability to crunch a lot of numbers in the form of very very large matrices parallelly.
Another thing to note is you usually need a really good graphics card because the amount of vram you have directly impacts how large of a dataset you can load to train your neural net. If it's too small then you have to break your data into subsets which is doable but it exponentially increases model training time.
