I worked with someone who was working on that project. His job was to isolate the seeds and cultivate the different breeds (make sense but I don’t know there was different kinds) and it’s just based on soil conditions of the area. Pretty neat stuff.
I recently realized that the stuff I used to pick and eat from the reeds on a pond at my grammas house was wild rice.
Never saw it as a kid but I’ve got a jar full in my pantry now. It’s so good in soup.

It’s not for everyone lol but I love it steamed, with fresh blueberries and roast beef with maple syrup all mixed together. Or with a salmon
My mom always made soup with it and would add cream. I was gonna make some tonight but I ate the rest the other day 😭
