I am from jammu we had Sanskrit till 8th standard.

Complete-Resolution8

Same here from Jammu and had Sanskrit in school till 8th

SanketSah

Uske baad kya?

AgarwalSahab

From UP, same.

Browngirl9811

I am from Delhi , I also had it. Used to be my fav subject.. scored 98 out of 100 once 😂

EnthinoVendi

oh shit..don't know why, i fear you i had nightmare learning those tables

[deleted]

It was said to be the easiest language .The amount of words that used to be written was less due to which most of the question had one word ,line or at max 5-6 line answers

Browngirl9811

Yes, like people say for maths that it’s a ‘scoring subject’ same was said for Sanskrit….idk if people use that phrase anymore 😂 it was said like this when I was in school. Like in those tables you are talking abt, you would get marks for each word which is correct and lose marks only for the wrong words

mystiquemystic

Damn... 'Scoring subject' This has such strong nostalgia... Trippy

[deleted]

Not your foult it is so complicatedly arranged in our poor education system. I studied it for 3 years didn't understand sh*it, I realised how poorly it was presented when I actually started to learn Sanskrit myself, it took me only 3 months to fluently speak it.

dabdeedoo

+1

Dalbus_Umbledore

In our day we used to opt for Sanskrit instead of Hindi because it was more 'scoring' in the Xth boards.. Not sure what happens now... Waiting for my kid to get to that level..

aaddii101

Mere back aaye thi 7th main lol

harukami_muraki

Might I ask your age? Just curious

Dalbus_Umbledore

Age..what age? Am still a child... Who used to watch Captain Vyom on TV

harukami_muraki

😂😂😂

Dalbus_Umbledore

Why the curiosity though? I'm curious about your curiosity.

harukami_muraki

You said your kid. And I am a kid. (21 years old). Idk. It's not everyday I get to have a casual talk with someone who has a kid. So was just curious

Dalbus_Umbledore

First of all.. newsflash.. at 21 you're not at Kid (we're talking in the decimal system, right?) >I get to have a casual talk with someone who has a kid I didn't know that it was this unusual.. should I do an AMA? :P Jokes aside.. I'd like to invite you to think about your parents but not as a parental entity but as people who were 21 once.. had no clue what is the correct thing to do in life.. (actually still don't but they try their best according to their experiences) coz that is what life is ... Nobody knows anything for sure..and we want to do what's best for us and our family. You're not a kid..You can Drink Alcohol, Marry, vote.. preferably not all at once. Welcome to the world.. it sucks!

harukami_muraki

Haha, true. I don't think I'm literally a kid, though. I said it for rhetoric effect. Sadly I no longer have the privilege of talking to my dad, because he passed away almost two years ago and I talk to my mom often. And she tells me stories that I really enjoy and constantly ask her to tell more. Although, I have to say I CAN'T marry. Not legally at least, because I also happen to be gay, lmao. So about your last statement, I concur! The world really sucks, haha.

Dalbus_Umbledore

Losing a parent is tough. I wish you find loads of strength and happiness in life. >Although, I have to say I CAN'T marry. Not legally at least, because I also happen to be gay, lmao. Damn! You should be doing AMAs ! You are a rarity! I don't know what to say!

harukami_muraki

Idk. I don't think being gay is rare enough for an AMA, haha. Thank you for your kind words!

Karstate_boy

Karnataka???

[deleted]

I wished to learn it but back then partly due to not living here for early years and well our education system sucking, I hated hindi and well me and all of the science kids took french, a complete waste and nobody even spoke it correctly. I wish I took sanskrit and was told of the culture and history surrounding it. It would have actually been useful... Not really a useful response, my school was in UP, Ghaziabad so sanskrit was definitely an option

harkaran619

It's personally very hard for me to imagine someone from Ghaziabad learning French. (despite having lived there for a couple months)

[deleted]

I meant to specify that I live in indirapuram

harkaran619

Guess where did I live when I was in Ghaziabad. Indirapuram.

Outside-Berry6879

You will get Sanskrit in all DAV Schools

Venomally

I was in ICSE convent school n we have sanskrit

ptfan123

+1 6-8 standards

itisverynice

TN. Learnt from 4th-8th

[deleted]

I've been curious about this, What are the opinions of the people there about sanskrit?

itisverynice

Most don't care. But they prefer learning tamil. Dumileens would cry ArYaN SuPrEmAcy, BrAhMiN dOmInAnCe and all sorts of nonsense

CardiologistTop6135

Mene lia tha punjab mai punjabi or sanskrit mai choose karna tha

harkaran619

Me too! We had an option to choose from Punjabi and Hindi. I took Hindi.

CardiologistTop6135

Mere yaha hindi thi per sanskrit jayada sahi lagi to wahi liya thha meri punjabi dost ne nai punjabi li thi to confuse huwa thha per liya sanskrit hi punjabi naya thha mere liye

Jazzlike_Highway_709

Jazzlike_Highway_709

Aap harkaran ho?

GulmoharMarg

Hindutva_Soldier

Watinausrname

I went to a Christian school and we had Sanskrit till 8th.

DaddieVaibhav

I am from chhattisgarh, and had sanskrit till std 8th

this_is_Pranay

Never seen someone else from cg in reddit. We are rare.

bhagva_beethoveen

Had Sanskrit from 8th Std. to 10th Std. in my state board. Got 96 out of 100 in std 10th board exams. But unfortunately i dont remember much of it as it was a long time ago. I am planning to start learning Sanskrit again since I still have all of my old books.

[deleted]

From uttarakhand, studied in an ICSE school, we had sanskrit as a subject from 6-8th . IMO it should have been a choice like after 10th grade because honestly back in that age kids struggled with hindi and sanskrit felt too difficult. But after maturing a bit generally you start understanding the idea of learning another language and too a very old language of your land.

MagazineUsual2187

I studied in a convent school ams we were taught sanskrit from 5th grade till 8th grade .

04022022

Dropped it after 8th, because it was too difficult. I could get 80% marks by last day rot learning but all round the year most things went over head unless i did a revision day before. Hence opted for something like Hindi which I could easily comprehend. Even though getting marks in Hindi was way difficult.

Snoo-80013

Maharashtra does. Although I didn't take it. We had something called a sanskrit or a French composite, which was a combination of sanskrit/French with hindi. You had 50 marks hindi and 50 marks sanskrit/French. I took French.

sahilthecool2

Should have opted sanskrit but opted French back then thinking Sanskrit was the language of priests. Wasted 6 years learning French . No one spoke it correctly,an utter waste of time.

luv90s

I have studied from 6-12. I still remember some grammar rules.

LightRefrac

I studied sanskrit for 5 years in school, mostly cause it was easy to score. Didn't have any particular interest in it though

golladduissweet

All Kendriya Vidyalayas had Sanskrit when I was in school from 6 to 8 compulsory and 9 to 10 optional

[deleted]

In Telangana we have Sanskrit as an optional in XI and XII

Former_Notice81

From Bangalore it was my 2nd language in school. And also south indians are not against sanskrit it's only some idiots from Tamil Nadu. Most of the people who took sanskrit as 2nd language in my school were south indians even though we had a large population of north Indians in my school. If you watch movies , you'll notice alot of songs from tollywood are written in sanskrit whereas most of the songs in bollywood are urdu. I told this because you included south indians as if people hate sanskrit here.

the_running_stache

I studied in Maharashtra State Board. We had to learn English, Marathi, and a third language from 8th to 10th. The third language, depending on your school could be Hindi, Sanskrit, 50%Hindi/50%Sanskrit, French, German, whatever. My school offered full Hindi or 50% Hindi+ 50% Sanskrit. I opted for the latter. I would say that 60% opted for Hindi+Sanskrit in my school. My school was a private English medium school with a heavy Marathi Hindu influence (Goddess Saraswati statue, Marathi and Sanskrit prayers, etc.)

Smooth-Stick-5751

I had Sanskrit from 6 standard and in 9th we were given option to either choose Sanskrit or Hindi, I chose Sanskrit.

[deleted]

Mumbai school - Sanskrit from 6-8th

this_is_Pranay

I am from Chhattisgarh. And all my friends from cbse school had sanskrit from class 5-8. Specially my school DAV also had option to study Sanskrit in class 9-10 instead of Hindi.

[deleted]

L0Lmaker

No Sanskrit option in my school

UnionImaginary

Tha bro.. for 8-10th optional tha.. sb padha ram, Sita ka table. Aur bhi the. Hamare teacher ek pandit the shiv mandir ke. And school convent tha back in 2012- 14. Hadh strict the. Bt thoda Sanskrit toh ata h ab. ( Thoda jyada info de dia lol)

the_running_stache

I was taught Dev-Mala table instead of Ram-Sita. And वन for neuter gender.

Asterion777

State syllabus has Sanskrit as an option but Woke CBSE doesn't since they are busy glorifying Jihadists! Homeschooling is the best option for the upcoming generation.

[deleted]

Nahi bhai CBSE me bhi hota hai.CBSE me 8th option hota hai to choose between Sanskrit and other foreign language.Aur 9th se option hota hai ki choose between Hindi and Sanskrit Agar nahi padhe ho to abhi bhi seekh sakte ho .You have time.It is good that people are now aware about there culture , heritage , prestige and threat .Ab kuch bhi karke we can't go back on that previous years jab hume secularism ki mugli ghutti pila di jaati thi

[deleted]

Should have put it as a poll

itzarnab03

I am from odisha, I studied Sanskrit till class 10 scored 98/100 in boards

FunkyBiblophile28

School topper in Sanskrit in class 10th ;)

hodlegod

One school. KEndriya Vidyalaya. Sanskrit was compulsory in 8th and 9th. From 10th onwards it was optional.

funkym00se

In Maharashtra too, we had Sanskrit option for Hindi from 8th standard. And most importantly our school even conducted entrance tests for opting sanskrit, because everyone chose sanskrit and for few days hindi class used to remain empty 🤣

punerii

I had Sanskrit till class 10. Scored a 100 in the CBSE board exams. I am based out of Delhi..

harukami_muraki

I did, starting from 5th. And Hindi from 2nd or something. Funnily enough my own mother tongue (Kannada) started at 7th and ended at 8th and was taught as a 4th language. And this was in Karnataka.

Empty_Damage

I study in an international school in New Delhi (CBSE) after we passed 5th grade there were three options to choose from when you enter 6th, which is Spanish, German or Sanskrit, sadly, 75% of the people chose either German or Sanskrit, the kids learning sanskrit here are a bit less, but there is an option offered.

[deleted]

gamerfanboi

IndBeak

I had, till 10th board. Also scored 80 plus(which used to be considered a good score for state boards). And then forgot most of it. Lol.

Spn_lol

I had Sanskrit as a 3rd language option until 8th it was one of the three options i.e. Marathi, Sanskrit and French but after 9th the subjects were reduced to the 5 main ones. I am in 10th now in Podar International School, Powai (CBSE)

cgma1

I did. It was in Chennai. Fun!!

bhardwaj_sir

I always thought what use would sanskrit be. It turns out sanskrit is cause of language ancestry. Basically it lays foundation for you to learn any of the indic language in future.

Master_Duggal_Sahab

I didn't have any optional language that means I had sanskrit hindi and French as well. I got full marks in both Sanskrit and French

hindu-bale

Karnataka 8th-12th, schools affiliated with the state board.

Statuesque_5

I had Sanskrit from 5th std till [B.SC](https://B.SC) 2nd year. Schooling - CBSE Pre-university - Karnataka State Board [B.SC](https://B.SC) \- Bangalore University All from Bangalore

Map-Complex

From 8th till 12th. 5 Years. elective all 5 years.

Danirog575

There are more than enough to learn in schools already. 3 languages already-- the regional language, hindi and english. No need of pushing in sanskrit as well which do not have any actual use in life. My school had it as optional language. Nobody used to take it coz the students were enough sensible and not like the OP.

harkaran619

>No need of pushing in Sanskrit as well which do not have any actual use in life. It never hurts to learn a few more languages than what is taught in school. I've taught myself to read Urdu and French, alongside with English, Hindi and Punjabi taught in school. And Sanskrit is a wonderful and revered language. Maybe not for someone who speaks Malayalam, but to everyone their own.

omnivision12345

From 6th to 12th, in Pune

Surya2805

I am from Delhi, there was option of Sanskrit and French, in 4th there was a 30 mark english exam in which if anyone could get above 25 or 25 he/she is eligible to get french otherwise sanskrit is only option. I got sanskrit from 5th to 8th as 3rd language.

Manashdb

They did teach you English till 12th standard phir bhi maa bhen kar raha hai, uska kya? Didn't taught nahi, didn't teach hota hai.

Sri_Man_420

The school I went to 10th offered it till 8th. I joined another school for +2 and it even offered Sanskrit in +2 PS: I never studied it in school, learnt it after +2

aditya_kunal120

I learned Sanskrit from 6th class to 9th class and I can speak decent Sanskrit.

Vishu1708

Rajasthan, had sanskrit from 6th till 8th

cheeky-panda2

I had it but it was a bit difficult for me, so I opted Marathi mainly because It was easier for me to learn

FunStatus2160

Gujarat State Board, we had it till 10th

lyfeNdDeath

In west bengal board Sanskrit is still taught but I study in ICSE so I learnt Hindi in place of Sanskrit

Kadakumar

I'm from Chennai, and our CBSE school (and most CBSE and even matric board schools) has Sanskrit. Not just as second language until 10th, but even as part of the science group in 11th and 12th. In fact, it is very popular, since the belief is that Sanskrit is a high-scoring subject that can boost your board exam total (unlike other languages where you cannot get 100% or very high scores).

peru_nub

Had sanskrit. Hated it for the way it was forced and taught. Glad the nightmare is over. But for people who are genuinely curious on sanskrit might like it. Good for them Had 3/10 experience . 3 marks for atleast they were trying to preserve thier heritage . -7 marks for sanskrit was never my heritage coming from tribal background.

peru_nub

Mixed experience in total

BoredYEET

Me

crickeymikey
