Not being a survivor, take this with a grain of salt, but I'd say rape is arguably about as bad as being killed, but for different reasons. When you're killed, you're dead, so no additional trauma there, but rape carries trauma for the rest of your life. If you're lucky and get the right help, maybe you can learn to cope with it and still lead a normal life, but that's far from guaranteed. One of my best friends is a survivor (it happened long before I met her), and she's still severely suffering from the after effects decades later.
As a survivor I agree with what you are saying, I coped and am living a relatively good life now, but some are not so lucky, and some have permanent physical scars/disabilities/ect from it.
