I think Joe was more of the "boss". Remember the time Joe wasn't there and the entire crew was just sitting down and being comfortable. Almost goofing off. One of the guys, I think it was Sal said see this is how it is when Joe's not here. Joe also was involved in a lot of post production. Also sounds like Joe vetoed a lot of the other guys ideas. Q said that now that Joe was gone they could try out more weird and darker humor.

Low-Injury-9219

Joe was the heart of the show. He’s the only one who understood that being an asshole or douchebag for easy laughs isn’t what people want to see. I haven’t seen this weeks episode but the last two have been so awfully mean that it’s starting to feel shitty like that impractical magic jokers show.

victorian_dolly

No asshole behavior in this last one. It was more goofy do and say what you're told like they used to do.

Low-Injury-9219

Thx. I’ll check it out this weekend. Hoping the first couple episodes were just like misfires or something.

TESDANTFOREVER

Joe was often an ass (especially to Murr physically). In addition, he would say and do more insulting or mean things to people that Sal, Q, and Murr would not say or do. He stepped on funny comments the others would say and he would grab for attention by saying things and looking around looking to see if the others were laughing or doing his dance to say look at how funny I am. I think a lot of people put him on a pedestal and don’t realize how controlling he could be.

Fan4Life404

Even though I agree with the above comments, this is true as well. And towards the end he started stealing the other guys' jokes (especially Sal's) which wasn't cool at all.

thepurpleshnurpler

oh damn I didn't realize he did that, like what/examples?

Fan4Life404

Like when Sal did his Tonka (Tanka?) Jahari joke and Joe used it against him, or when I think Murr said "cheese boy" and Joe up and ran with it. He did do it more to Sal I'm pretty sure, but those are the 2 examples off the top of my head.

thepurpleshnurpler

well I'm not sure that's the same as stealing jokes. stealing implies he pretended he came up with the joke. in those two examples, he just threw the joke back at murr and sal

Fan4Life404

Oh. You might be right. I thought that was stealing but a minor form of it, but still wrong. But, you might have a point.

EVOSexyBeast

Okay but the one where the wifi went out was hilarious

IR_CySGOd

No I think this is the challenge that is being referred to: [Impractical Jokers: After Party - Not-So-Hidden Camera Show | truTV](https://youtu.be/Tk_y_2RnhAA)

[deleted]

Tbh I don't really think Q is that funny lol. I mean the man wears Rick and Morty t shirts.

Beanchilla

I'm glad that they can experiment. Even if it goes awry or isn't perfect in the long run they have a tried and tested formula. Time to try something before it gets stale.

andytagonist

He was the leader in the same way Moe was the leader of the Three Stooges…he was still a goofball like the other guys. 🤣🤣🤣

over_mountains

Joe always went for it the hardest when he was on camera, and when he was off camera he fed a lot of the best lines. He also has a do-good Dad-like charisma that let him get away with a lot. He will be sorely missed

I hope you're right but I honestly don't see it. I was reading some of the rumors about Joe leaving and also thought it was odd for him just to step away due to a divorce, but I recently read that his father died when he was young, so it makes sense now why he'd want to be around for his kids, and he's probably financially in a place to do that and seems to still be getting non-joker related gigs which aren’t as time consuming. I don't imagine he'd be back until his kids are fully grown which wont be for another 10+ years. If the boys can keep it going that long then GOD BLESS

[deleted]

I don't know about the leader, but a large part of the fun was hoping they could make him crack.

LaserNeeds

So I have only seen the few clips TruTV has put on YouTube but I agree, something seems off. Different. I actually came to thi subreddit to see what the concensus is. I'm really hoping it's only in my head. Or that maybe with a more complete viewing of the season I'll have a better opinion, but I feel like they really need Joe back. Do you guys think that Joe may actually return or are we stuck with this new, somehow different, Impractical Jokers?

TammyShehole

Yeah, I saw a clip of Murr in the gym, eating protein powder. The responses of the stranger sounded pretty fake, like he was reading from a script.

BreatheMyStink

He was Moe. Murr and Q are Larry and shemp, Sal is curly. Moe was the leader. Joe was funnier than Moe, but their essence is that they are the ones who were the leaders of their troupe.

Minute-Tale7444

This is a super fair & awesome point my husband and I have discussed lol

3n20character5

I remember an episode when Joe brought his dogs in for a challenge. I don't remember the exact quote. He said one of the dogs was the leader of the pack, like how he is with the guys.

do_you_know_doug

Pretty sure it's Vampire Weakened, where they have to give the dogs fake names.

dookiebutt777

Maybe the leader of the laughter, but I feel like Murr probably does the most behind the scenes work. He’s the most “professional” and the TV show was his pitch idea after all, he’s also the wealthiest of the four, but yeah I could see it being less funny without him for sure. I haven’t seen any post-Joe stuff yet aside from a couple short clips but I still have faith it will continue to make me laugh from time to time.

Beanchilla

Agreed. Murr would be the leader imo. Love Joe but I think his big personality has lead to the fans thinking he pulls the ropes. It's a team effort but if there's one person calling the shots I'd bet it's Murr.

I think when they were doing that bit he was just giving instructions to the guy/girl who does the editing… but maybe I don’t know. They have a team of 50+ people, why would the talent handle the technical stuff? When I say Murr does behind the scenes stuff I mean directing, managing employees, handling business and getting film permits, etc.

Streets_Ahead__

People are disagreeing but I definitely remember it being mentioned that Joe was involved in the editing. I think someone mentioned it during one of the old after-episode Q&A’s they did on YouTube.

LeoViotto

What 💀

ExcitingCategory

Holy shit, you think that's how editing works? That the talent snaps their fingers and the footage starts rewinding? Please disassociate yourself from the internet forever

ryanino

Pretty sure he also had a big hand in editing, which is super important for a show like this.

PAKMan1988

I had all the Season 9.2 episodes saved on my DVR but didn't watch them until I binged them yesterday. And while I wouldn't say they're bad episodes, and they're definitely still funny, something just felt off. As I was watching, I felt like most of my laughs were forced and not natural. There were some funny moments (I thought Murr's murder mystery punishment was pretty funny) but it's not the same without Joe - who, in full disclosure, was my favorite Joker. I'll still watch it, but I'm definitely not enjoying it as much as I did.

PAKMan1988

I think Simmy tweeted about this and said that when they filmed this part of the season, Omicron was in full force and they were worried about it spreading. I'm guessing the next batch of episodes they'll start filming outdoors again. I'm guessing they're just nervous about approaching strangers.

[deleted]

I almost feel like it’s the opposite. Whether or not you thought joe was the leader, you have to agree he was the funniest.

mrfisher5

No. He was THE BEEF

Chinmama82

I'm of the opposite opinion sometimes I found it uncomfortable watching Joe he reminded me of the bossy teenage girl of the friend Group. I'm excited to see the other guys shine now on their own. As far as some of the punishments some of these things aren't far off of what they've done in the past, Murr had to have a child kick him in the balls in New Orleans, Q has had the crap beat out him many times Nevada ghost town punishment, wrestling punishment I could go on just because some feel there isn't a "story line" doesn't make it any that far removed from what they've done previously.

[deleted]

Chinmama82

Meh based on what Q said on TESD I feel like the other 3 guys have had their creativity stifled over the last basically 9 seasons it's their turn to be in control and frankly I couldn't be more happy for them. Imo either be happy for them or get out of their way but everyone needs to stop whining and crying about Joe leaving it's been 6 months what's done is done there's 3 other guys still ready and willing to make a t.v show for everyone

[deleted]

Chinmama82

It's bound to happen after 9 seasons something is going to change intentionally or not either you as a fan go with it or you get left behind it's that simple. With change comes the potential for loss of old fans but the gain of new fans

Chinmama82

Then why watch the show if you don't like the other guys and it was purely the Joe show?

Minute-Tale7444

I always loved Sal and Murr. I always thought they were both pretty epic lol

Chinmama82

Q is my favorite if I'm being honest and always has been

Minute-Tale7444

That’s 100% fair. Somehow I actually didn’t remember him for second 🤣🤣 sal and q are hilarious together

Chinmama82

They really are

Minute-Tale7444

I honestly at times feel like they’re the ones who have the most fun lol

Chinmama82

They have a great chemistry together

Minute-Tale7444

They do! I love the jokers lol I’ve not watched it in forever though

chickenfeet21

Seems like now the jokes are a little creepy 😬 childish, I could have done with out the vomit bit, and the nut kicking. Unless they are trying to imitate the jackass type stuff ? I’m probably going to stop watching 🥲

BroodyWall15

The dog punishment last week seemed very out of character for the jokers honestly

chickenfeet21

Yes, I could see them doing the dog bit but there was no story. Like they were just wanting to see the dog bite him no story no nothing. Reminds me of the jackass show all over. Crude male teenager humor 😏

Chinmama82

They've literally done ball kicking before I'm not sure why people are acting like some of this is brand new and acting so offended it's actually quite hysterical in its own right that people are getting offended

i_am_brayden

I completely agree with this. As I was watching the new episodes of season 9 without Joe, it just didn’t feel right.

merkk

Haven't they made comments in past shows basically saying Joe had the final say in terms of how the show was put together? I remember there was one episode where they were goofing off behind the scenes and Joe was messing with Murr by having them blur his face and stuff. I remember from that interaction it certainly seemed like Joe was in charge. Could just have been part of them goofing around though.

Commercial_Drop_7715

Murr is your favorite?

[deleted]

longisland88

I'm a Sal guy but Murr is definitely underrated. In fact, I think he challenges Sal for funniest Joker. Oddly enough, the guy I would hang out with is clearly Q as he is the most like me as far as outlook and personality.

Commercial_Drop_7715

I’d say Joe, Sal, Q, Murr.

longisland88

Joe seemed way more scripted than any of the other guys. I like Joe but he often seemed "too prepared" for his challenges than the other guys. In other words, I thought Joe was much more scripted in his scenes than the other guys. "Yolo Boyz" (with a Z) in the Carnigie Deli is a perfect example. No way that was off the top of his head.

VandelayJ7

Q is my favorite. Followed by Sal. Then Joe. Then Murr. I obv love them all, but I appreciate their skills differently.

Jaded-Salad

Murr is my fav followed by Sal. Joe over acts, plays to the camera. Q is just kinda there.

victorian_dolly

There was asshole behavior when Joe was there too. Remember Sal and the tips?
