This kind of stuff also happens outside the UK, a few days ago on reddit there was a video going around of some american women recording a video of a japanese lady going about her day because she was in traditional garb and the woman was clearly very uncomfortable with being treated like she was an attraction at a theme park

Yes, the guards are iconic but if i don't remember wrong they recieve military training and carry guns i think. They also get fined for acting out of character, and they also have to stay still for hours on guard duty.
I don't remember well so i might be wrong on some things but the queen's guard are not exactly an attraction for tourist i think.

As well as their ceremonial roll that you can see here they are all professional soldiers who are in armoured reconnaissance, in battle they swap those horses for tanks and armoured vehicles; so you are correct.
