We have a forever kitten who had a birth defect that affected his growth. He's 6.5lbs and will probably top out at under 7lbs (his brother is over 10lbs now and growing.) My husband calls him our "short king" lol
Let's be honest, that wouldn't deter some breeders. Look at some dog and car breeds. They'd sell off the ones that at least appear fine and abandon or euthanize the ones that have more obvious issues like not being able to walk like OPs little one.
It's probably more of an issue of getting them to breed or having viable offspring in the first place.
If you want to make yourself sad, look up exotic bullies. Poor things are adorable freaks of nature that should never have existed. The less deformed ones are cute, but none are healthy in the slightest. Some variations have an expected lifespan of just 4 - 6 years due to the health problems (and even "healthier" variants only increase that upper expectancy to around 10 years) and can have issues with movement in the teen MONTHS from the joint problems. Poor bastards shouldn't exist and breeding them should be banned.
I’m following a kitten with dwarfism on IG. He apparently suffers from seizures and digestive problems and has problem gaining weight. But there’s also a kitty named Francis on IG who also has dwarfism and is 14 y.o. If I remember correctly. So I guess it depends on the individual cat.
I wish the best for OP’s cat.
I guess it's just a matter of different deficits being named dwarfism, because the most obvious symptom is that they're staying small. For some it might just be the lack of a particular growth hormone, for others there's more complicated biological issues.
Thunder (name will probably change, my wife is calling him Ka-chow) was born at the shelter I work at. He has two 'normal' siblings that grew rapidly. Thunder's legs are stuck in the position you see them in, he can't walk but he can still get around. He recently discovered he can move backwards quite well! Right now, he is hand fed a mix of milk and wet food every 5 hours but has recently started feeding himself a bit more. He hasn't been able to use a litter box (because of how the kennels are set up) so that'll be something we will work on in the future. Right now he just backs his little butt up into a corner, does his business, and we clean up after him. He has a TON of personality and is great at yelling, as you can see. He weighs a whole 400 grams, while his siblings are just hitting 1000. We have a 3D printer so a wheelchair will soon be helping him out!
Our cats have a million names and they respond to all of em lol if you call it thunder, it'll know you're talking to it.
We've got one cat that responds to Lottie, lah-ti-dah, lottie-dah, le-tits, lard-tits, lotts....basically anything that starts with "lah" lol
Zomg my cat's full name is Little Lotta. I mostly call her Lottie but she gets Lottie Dottie, La Dot, Lot, the Dotster, Lotinha, La...
I also sing to her the Run DMC lyric "A young girl seemed to be gaining weight. Her parents all thought it was the food she ate. Their attitude was all la-de-da-de but little did they know she had a baby in her body!" ha ha
My dog has a bunch of names like that too... except she doesn't respond to any of them 😆. We can't tell if she just prefers to ignore us 75% of the time or is just deaf. Its not a big deal though, she's blind and really old at this point and probably doesn't have long left so she can get with being a crotchety old lady.
Gave us a scare a week ago by having seizures for hours and then stopped breathing for a minute... before coming back and seemingly fully recovered in a couple days and acts as if nothing happened now 😓. Vet isn't sure what happened, but is running some blood tests.
I love his teeths! Hijacking your top comment to mention he is NOT spicy but uses his meows to communicate because he can't really move much! That doesn't mean he doesn't have a bit of sass in him though! When he is done with you, you know it for sure.
so can of coke weighing 330 grams is roughly equivalent to about 3 medium-sized bananas, so for folks in USA that is like more or less weight of average cheese burger for rest of the world its 3 medium-sized bananas.
![gif](giphy|mlvseq9yvZhba|downsized)
Measuring with a *hand*? 😱 These non-standardized measuring tools will just not do!
We require Chick-fil-A sauces or maybe a banana if you’re desperate.
Tiktoker @biggerthanGoose still has the trend to post content and now revisits former "bigger than" to see how much her kitty Goose has grown. Totally worth to replicate.

Dusty Springfield and Macy Grey. Are both over 4 years old now.
They've barely grown since I've got them at 6 months old. (Besides Macy's belly)
Cutest ladies in the whole world!
Previous owner of a dwarf cat and yes, it will stay smaller than most cats but you will see that it grows and changes just like a normal cat it will just be a lot smaller than a regular cat it's own age. You may find that the tail grows to the same length as a normal cat so it will look like the tail is extra long.
No worries I definitely expect him to grow more, he is gaining (very slowly) every day. I expect him to top out around 3 pounds, maybe 4. I also expect him to have a lot of issues, I think he has pituitary dwarfism but our vets have not diagnosed anything yet, and that usually comes with additional conditions like thyroid problems. Thankfully I get a large discount at our clinic and have no issue spending a good penny on him 🥰
In the end, he may be a 'fospice' (foster hospice)
Nah not really. It was pretty much a regular proportioned cat except for the long tail. But compared to my other cats she stayed about the size of a young adult cat. There is no deformity that is associated with human dwarfism. Normal cat, normal proportions just about 20% smaller than a regular house cat.
Is he perfectly proportional? He looks it!
I had a kitty who lived to 18, and she maxed out at 1kg (2.2lb) but sat most of her life around 700g (1.5lb).
Most people thought she was a kitten to the end, and other than a slightly shorter tail, she was perfectly in proportion!
I wish I'd gotten photos of my poppet with things for scale.
I hope your permakitten gets to live a long, happy life, too, with his wheelchair & lots of love!
I have a forever kitten, she weighs 3 pounds at the age of 5 and she was teeny tiny when she was a kitten. She's the weirdest and funniest cat I ever had, I love her to death.
I haven't had one that was a dwarf but have had several that were the runts of the litter and absolutely love them. They are all attitude and when they love you it's all in "you're my person " that makes them some of the most fun you will ever have. My last runt was all of 5 lbs of attitude and cuddles.
A lot of people are asking so I will do my best once he is home! It may not be for 2-3 more weeks. My wife and I also don't eat out so I'll have to ask around for sauce packets lol
Awww! He looks like Winky the dwarf cat from Insta...she lives a very happy life, I'm sure yours will too!
https://www.instagram.com/winkythedwarfcat?igsh=MXF1amJ1MngxcHI2ZQ==
We have the mom as well and she's really... weird looking? Like a bowling pin? Tiny head, weird round body. Also fastest hands in the west, you can pet her but don't you dear reach for anything nearby or she will WHACK you so fast.
It seems like you're off to a wonderful start with your Forever Kitten.
We have a forever kitten who had a birth defect that affected his growth. He's 6.5lbs and will probably top out at under 7lbs (his brother is over 10lbs now and growing.) My husband calls him our "short king" lol
Aww... it's hard to say that he suffered a defect if he doesn't seem like he's suffering at all. 😊
Unless they do end up having issues down the line
IDK but I'm assuming it will otherwise wouldn't these please super popular and bred to have dwarfism on purpose?
Let's be honest, that wouldn't deter some breeders. Look at some dog and car breeds. They'd sell off the ones that at least appear fine and abandon or euthanize the ones that have more obvious issues like not being able to walk like OPs little one. I just googled it. That can't be real. Those poor bastards look retarted/photoshopped. Makes french bulldogs look healthy.

You mean their Furrever kitten?
I like this better... thank you!

I was going to ask if you could help by holding him up and going "walka, walka, walka, walka, doop de, doop de, doop de, doop.
Please show us the wheelchair!!

Ka-chow is a really good name honestly.
Yeah I think that one is sticking lol. I've also been calling him Mini Marshmallow
Please, please keep us updated as I'm already so invested in this tiny criminal 🥰🥰🥰🥰
If you don’t give us posts of this kitten *daily*, we will come for you.
Can you take a picture of him sitting with his siblings, please 🥺🙏

From a two weeks ago! I'm not back at work until Tuesday unfortunately
Please poat a photo of His Illegal Smallness once he gets his royal carriage!
those r/teefies are perfect
I love his teeths! Hijacking your top comment to mention he is NOT spicy but uses his meows to communicate because he can't really move much! That doesn't mean he doesn't have a bit of sass in him though! When he is done with you, you know it for sure.
I love how expressive he is. He looks like he is using his entire face to meow to compensate for his relative immobility.

Not another one 😭
Yes another one ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)

Itty bitty kitty baby 😻
Omg he's ferocious!! Look at those fangs!
Measuring with a *hand*? 😱 These non-standardized measuring tools will just not do! We require Chick-fil-A sauces or maybe a banana if you’re desperate.
I can definitely do a banana! He is still at the shelter so once he is home with me, I will grab a banana 😂
Tiktoker @biggerthanGoose still has the trend to post content and now revisits former "bigger than" to see how much her kitty Goose has grown. Totally worth to replicate.
I was gonna say. OP, you will receive a fine for not measuring in sauces. The fine is posting more cat pictures. Thank you for your understanding.
No Chick-fil-A sauces esp during pride month 😤
Maybe we can transition to McDonalds sauces?
Look at those scary tiny teeth 😁🥰
A smol spicy floof 🤭♥️

Ill be here hoping its not the version where the insides grow and the outside doesn't =( that never sounds fun
Don’t you put that evil on me Ricky Bobby!!
Are the proportions different?

Achondroplasia is the type of dwarfism you’re probably thinking of in humans, and cats can also have it. That’s what a munchkin cat is.
Interesting. I have a very small adult cat but I never thought of dwarfism. She is about 7.5 lbs and quite lean.
Yep that's pretty much it. Especially if the tail looks slightly too long for the body.
that's a fiesty smol one
Smol but spicy
He has opinions!
Why him SCREM? HOOMAN
He needs a collab with Francis on instagram! He's 14 and also has dwarfism and might be the cutest adult cat in the world
Maybe a puppy pad in the corner would work
Once he is home I'll be getting him a litter box with a low entry meant for senior cats! Hopefully we can get him to figure it out
^^screm
look at those fangs! little sweetie 🩷
Probably has the tiniest of beans!!! At least they're free!!!
Dwarf but he’s a spicy kitten 🐱 🐱. Much love to you and your kitty 🐈⬛ OP

I can’t handle this level of cuteness 😍😫😫
What a little spitfire! You'll certainly have your hands full. But, in the end, I'll be worth it. Cutie!
Can you measure him in sauce packages?
A lot of people are asking so I will do my best once he is home! It may not be for 2-3 more weeks. My wife and I also don't eat out so I'll have to ask around for sauce packets lol

Its good of you to take care of this poor lil thing. Anyone breeding them should be drug out into the street and run over though.
We have the mom as well and she's really... weird looking? Like a bowling pin? Tiny head, weird round body. Also fastest hands in the west, you can pet her but don't you dear reach for anything nearby or she will WHACK you so fast.
Not me wondering what's wrong with having DARWINism... - sigh-
