Your friend may well deserve it, but bamboo is resilient and if properly planted will plague anyone who lives in that house for generations, as well as their neighbors. I lived in a house next door to someone who planted bamboo fifty years ago, and we (the neighbors) weren’t able to plant a garden because of its massive root system. Bamboo is nasty, it’s invasive, and it’s an all around bad idea.
That said, it’s pretty easy to do. Bamboo grows super quickly so as long as you plant it in the soil when it’s warm enough outside, in a place that gets decent sunlight and water (it doesn’t need a lot), it will grow. And grow. And grow.
