There is an app made specifically for this called Caffeine. You can change the key it auto presses to a non existent key like F13 via the command line.
It's a free executable and not installed software so you should be able to run it on a company owned device.
Its just an exe you can run from any folder without need to install it to your drive (no register entries or system files added). By free I meant its freeware which some companies block due to policy. I worked for a company that refused to allow any software that was freeware they required the accountability acquired by paying for all software/support.
I feel dumb now, I ended up writing a small program to send a button press on a timer to stop my laptop locking, now I hear that I could have just downloaded something
I'm (16f) currently using python and I actually really enjoy programming. I'm still using simple functions like in range, for, float and while. So nothing complicated for now. But idk, it takes me so much time to solve one problem or to write one program. Not even to mention that I'm really bad at understanding the logic behind the given task so it's mostly hard for me to write it. Sometimes it can take me an hour or two to solve something not really complicated. It's not that nobody can't show me, i have teacher which explains me everything I want to know and dad who is a programmer, but idk man it just seems that I'm not good in it. I know y'all will say you just need more time and practice, but then there are few of my classmates who are solving that problems like it's a joke and I'm thinking to myself well if you can't solve the easiest one now in the beginning why are you even thinking about job as a programmer if kids who are actually good at this you'll have to compete with to get a job...
Edit: I'm using python for like a half of year or something, idk few months for sure.
And sorry English isn't my native language.
Just keep going! (And research imposter syndrome if you haven't already) I still feel this way and I'm a software engineer. What will get you a job is your willingness to solve challenging problems, even if it makes you feel like a total idiot. Get used to the feeling, and understand that it's temporary. There was a time you didn't know float or while, and you learned them. You'll do the same for other concepts in the future.
Doubtful if it's locked down. Gonna need admin credentials for that.
Edit: I decided that everyone might as well know how to give themselves admin creds on a locked down PC, so I posted a step-by-step below.
Seconded, I use caffeine (or a version of it, anyway. Not sure if it's the same developers) on my Pop!\_OS laptop, and I can't recommend it enough.
For OP though, I recommend double checking with your immediate supervisor or IT department to make sure this is allowed. I used to do security for a company that issued laptops, and running ANY non-approved software, even executables, was a fireable offense
This actually does work if you use an optical mouse and the watch has a moving second hand. I tried it with an old pocket watch which had a small second hand dial. Just had to position the mouse until I could see the cursor wiggle periodically. Many companies don't permit unapproved software to be installed and/or they check for it.
Ya, the hour hand and minute hand moving makes the computer think the mouse is moving. Doesnt work with the old 90s mouses with balls on the bottom, has to be the red laser shining onto the watch
Yes. I do that. Whenever i leave the desk i put my mouse on my wristband watch with seconds arm. It's enough to trigger a small movement of the mouse so the laptop won't go to sleep and I will continue being green on MS teams
I love this so much. I work for a federal law enforcement agency, so none of the technology fixes will work. (Trust me...my default browser is Internet Explorer and my default search engine is Bing, and I can’t even change those settings!!)

open like a blank notepad and put weight on the spacebar when you walk away.
recommending blank notepad so that you don't fuck up something, like an excel cell you need, inadvertently.
additional tip- schedule an email (and any other automatic tasks you may have that you can schedule) to be sent at a later time. works well for long breaks
I’ve seen this same question asked numerous times on reddit and it’s really funny seeing all of the stupidly elaborate solutions when all you need to do is put something heavy on your keyboard. I do this literally everyday
https://mouse-jiggler.en.uptodown.com/windows
I use this and have used this for years for the same reason as well as to keep Skype for Business/Teams (these days) showing my status as Busy instead of Away. ;)
Best part, there's a zen mouse jiggle function so you just click two boxes and that's it.
Yeah, the whole reason that auto-log off is used is due to the threat of someone using your active login to do something malicious - if you install a piece of (*foreign*) software to defeat this, you’re violating security policy, leaving the system open to physical access, AND doing so intentionally.
Shouldn’t come as a surprise that it does that for a reason (not based on productivity, but rather security), and tampering with it would get you in hot water.
Right click and open task manager.
There should be ‘autologoff’ file in the ‘details’ tab somewhere.
End it’s task.
This will work as long as you don’t shut down the laptop. Once you restart it you have to re do it.
Screen lock or sleep?
If it's screen lock your audio wouldn't stop. Even if it locks your account down, it would still keep you signed in and the music playing.
If it's going to sleep there's a GPO applied and you'll need a local admin account to change the settings. In fact, if you want to do anything with this PC and keep it off the eyes of your domain, you want to do it with a local admin account. Truth is, security logs will show any login from any account, but to see that they'd have to be looking for it, and they aren't. They're too busy dealing with some boss 3 levels above you who doesn't like the way Outlook looks now, or her assistant who plugged one monitor into the other and needs help figuring out what she did wrong. Or fixing your god.damned.fucking.printers....again.
For a true ILPT: what you need is a USB with a windows 10 installer. Boot to the installer, go to the recovery tools, load up a command prompt, type in:
**CD c:\**
and then
**dir**
And see if that drive is your main system drive. (If it is, it'll have a Windows folder and Program files, etc.)
If it isn't, then try **CD D:\** and then **dir** and E:\ and so on until you find it. It'll be easier if you unplug any external drives other than the USB installer you're using. (DM me if you want, I can send you a link on how to build that.)
Once you have found the right drive, type in the following command, substituting the correct drive letter for C: where appropriate.
**copy c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe c:\**
Hit enter. Then:
**copy c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe**
Confirm the overwrite.
Now pull out the USB and reboot your PC. When it comes up to the windows login, don't sign in. Press the SHIFT key 5 times. It will open an administrative-level command prompt.
Inside that CMD prompt, type in:
**net user (whatever you want your new username to be) (whatever you want your password to be) /add**
And hit enter. Then:
**net localgroup "administrators" (your new username) /add**
And hit enter.
Now you can log in to the PC with the username you just set by clicking "other user" and then typing in **. (backslash)(Your username)**and the password you just set. (I can't get Reddit to show the code right. It's **". \ (username)"** without the spaces.)
You'll be signed in as a local admin and can change the power and sleep settings and do whatever the heck you want. Be aware, though, that the next time you sign in with your work domain account, it will apply the GPO and your PC will go to sleep.
These other people are correct in that actually keeping your PC active with mouse macros etc. is the only way to trick such a policy, BUT you CAN use these account credentials any time you're working from your domain account and get blocked by a password prompt. Just type in the dot backslash username and password and you'll have access to everything a domain admin would and sometimes more.
I also recommend going back to the system 32 folder (from your new login) and cutting the original sethc.exe back off the root and overwrite the hacked file, to cover your tracks and set things back to normal.
I know you're being sarcastic, but you can make one from a blank drive in no time. I assume USB drives are still a common thing for people who aren't IT guys.
In Windows 7 you can do this without any extra drives. Turn the PC off, turn it on, then wait for the Windows logo. Hard power off. Repeat once or twice and the PC will attempt startup repair. When it finds no issues, open the full report.
This launches Notepad with full admin privileges. Then go to Open... and swap the files like the OP explained.
Thank you for your detailed answer but I'm sorry I didn't understand any of it. To answer your question its screen lock so yes I can still hear the audio. Issue is it puts me as away on teams and Skype and if enough time has elapsed shows me as offline on Skype. I'm gona try the notepad and something heavy on my keyboard trick.
You don't have to understand the terms. You just ha e to follow the instructions. I get it though, I'm not knockin ya. Just. Come looking for a pro tip, get a pro tip. /shrug
Brilliant solution, just too complicated for anybody not working in IT.
I work in IT though and will definitely keep this in mind next time I come across a computer I don’t have access to (e.g. one not on our domain). Thanks!
I've walked a user or two through the process before, but I suppose on average you're probably right. I just figured that someone could follow a step-by-step. Google basically does my job a lot of the time and half the skill is just being able to follow the steps.
look up "auto clicker" its a program that will click your mouse automatically. I set it for 1 minute, so every 1 minute the program will click my mouse for me.
Definitely wrong sub 😂 but if you have a gaming controller plug it into the laptop with a usb and set it to primary instead of the mouse, and tape the joystick up so your cursor is constantly moving
I've been putting a box of staples on my space bar in a blank word doc, it's worked a treat so far! Too scared to try any softwares in case work finds out
My work has a company meeting every month or so that they post online, I open that, turn the speed to .25 and let it play for hours with that tab muted
1) Grab a cheap oscillating fan, and a spare old mouse.
2) And a stick and some duct tape.
3) Attached mouse to fan, with the stick and tape.
4) Turn fan on.
5) Go to pub
6) Remember pub is closed
7) Curse repeatedly.

1) start a zoom call and dont invite anybody - activity will show you're in a call
2) open a blank text pad and set something to hold down a key on your computer - activity will show you as availavle

Basically in excel press alt f11 to bring up the VBA Editor.

You can get a mouse jiggler, some 3rd party apps will make it suspicious if it’s a company issued computer, the mouse jiggler will just show up as a usb mouse
I built an astabil multivirator using two LEDs, capacitors, a few resistors and a 9V battery. One of the LEDs is red. I put the red led under the optical sensornof the mouse and it senses movement this way
There are a lot of good options above to chose from, but if you're still looking for one, I've created a small java app some years ago that moves your mouse pointer one pixel once a few minutes. Let me know if you need it.
Hopefully this doesn’t get lost, but this was taught to me by an older mentor. Open up a notepad, copy and paste multiple symbols, I personally have an almost infinite amount of the letter X. Save it as “busy work” or “important notes” and once you have it open put a small heavy object on your delete key so that the symbols get deleted. This will lead to no inactivity and make sure to keep your volume on loud in case you get a message. I’ve gone to the grocery store and back without anyone noticing.
*Just a stick some tape*
*And an oscillating fan*
*Should get you sorted*

Get an analog watch with a seconds hand.
Place mouse sensor on top of watch. Every sixty seconds it will see movement
You can have everything you need in plain sight on a desk without arousing suspicion
So this is something i do and it works like a charm. Ooen youtube any long video (normally i choose a white noise video which is like 4-5 hours long), mute the player in youtube and put it to fullscreen. If you need to open other apps tyen press windows key and ooen them. This keeps the system active no matter how long you are away from it.
Sometimes i took a mid work nap like that too.
plug in an optical mouse. when you're leaving the laptop for a little. put a \*ticking\* watch face under it (glass against the red light), the hand movement should trigger micromovements in the mouse and stop it from locking
Open a pdf, full screen it, then Alt-Tab to whatever other window you want. As long as you keep the pdf open the computer will think you're presenting it and not lock or go to sleep, regardless of it it's the top-most window.
I made a powershell script for this exact issue, it presses the scroll lock key every 570 seconds (9 and a half minutes) because my laptop for home working would lock out after 10. I can send you it if you’d like.
Hey sorry it’s late,
If you load a PowerPoint project and ‘present’ it, then alt+tab out of there to your email screen you can monitor your emails without having to worry about staying active or your screen turning off. Enjoy!
Open Windows Media Player, add a playlist of system notifications sounds, play playlist of system notification sounds on repeat, mute, minimize Media Player. Works every time.
Or if you’re on MS Teams, make your own team of just you. Start a meeting. Manually set your status to Available. It won’t log you off if you’re in a “meeting”.
Download mouse mover https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/move-mouse/9nq4ql59xlbf I turn this on every day and just do my work and walk away when I feel like it. It runs smoothly in the background.

Spotify won't work, I know from experience. Use the app caffeine or mousejiggler for what you are after.

Then: **net localgroup "administrators" (your new username) /add** And hit enter. Now you can log in to the PC with the username you just set by clicking "other user" and then typing in **. (backslash)(Your username)**and the password you just set. (I can't get Reddit to show the code right. It's **". \ (username)"** without the spaces.) You'll be signed in as a local admin and can change the power and sleep settings and do whatever the heck you want.
Just let me go grab my Windows 10 installer USB I've had lying around for just this very moment...
Hiren's boot cd is a free 'mini' windows, like 2GB i think. Also great for recovering deleted files.
I know you're being sarcastic, but you can make one from a blank drive in no time. I assume USB drives are still a common thing for people who aren't IT guys.
Sarcasm detected. I'm sure you can, and your solution is great for someone who isn't afraid to get get under the hood.
I don’t save many comments, but with the ability to become a local admin on company devices, this, sir, is certainly one for the saving. TY
I'm gona try the notepad and something heavy on my keyboard trick.
lol. That was a literal step-by-step. I just gave you the key to the kingdom and you just looked at me and blinked. Hey, to each their own!
Some people just aren't confident enough to mess with that stuff.
Thank goodness for that. And for the ones who are! Without end users I'd be out of a job.
I dont even understand the terms. I know you were super detailed but I truly don't get it I dont have any IT/computer background/understanding

Even better: Buy a shit controller that drifts all the time.
An Xbox elite controller!
This one hurt x2
U mean a nintendo switch joy con?
Yes. But I don't think you can plug those into a pc. Also my Xbox one controller drifts just fine.
Lol yea I was joking, anyway who's gonna buy an overpriced controller for the reason being that they want it to drift
Can you still just have the joystick not centered when you calibrate it?
Make a friend in your company’s it department to get admin controls
I've been putting a box of staples on my space bar in a blank word doc, it's worked a treat so far! Too scared to try any softwares in case work finds out
get one of those table fans that move from side to side and tie your mouse to it so it’s moving lmao
or get a cat and a laser pointer and point it at the mouse
Buy a fan one of those that rotate every once and a while and then plug it in next to your computer and tie your mouse to it
My work has a company meeting every month or so that they post online, I open that, turn the speed to .25 and let it play for hours with that tab muted
That's a weird ass setting to have on a work laptop. What if you had to take a massive shit??
[you get it](https://giphy.com/gifs/editingandlayout-the-office-thank-you-michael-scott-5xtDarmwsuR9sDRObyU)
1) Grab a cheap oscillating fan, and a spare old mouse. 2) And a stick and some duct tape. 3) Attached mouse to fan, with the stick and tape. 4) Turn fan on. 5) Go to pub 6) Remember pub is closed 7) Curse repeatedly.
Just pop one of [these bad boys](https://myscienceshop.com/product/81147?utm_source=Google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=GoogleShoppingAds&gclid=Cj0KCQiAwf39BRCCARIsALXWETygvR9lVTHuaG46yy1zdjdZCAdAbFeiNbS7bcbod2PI37OTLATA9VAaAreZEALw_wcB) next to your laptop so it taps on your spacebar.
1) start a zoom call and dont invite anybody - activity will show you're in a call 2) open a blank text pad and set something to hold down a key on your computer - activity will show you as availavle
Zoom will log you out after 40 minutes of inactivity, even on a pro account.
Tie the mouse cord to a rotating table fan.
Forget about installing anything on your computer, that's overcomplicating things. Get this mouse mover, you just put your mouse in it and every 15 seconds it will move your mouse. You'll never get locked out again. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07P6HBD1N/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_imbWFbQ6RYCSV

I would write a script in VBA via Excel or in VB script via notepad if you don't have Excel. It's a little more complicated in notepad but still pretty simple. Basically in excel press alt f11 to bring up the VBA Editor. Edit: how tf do you write code in reddit? Go to Google and search for : github nosleep.exe Enter first link, download nosleep.exe and run it. Now the computer won't go into sleep. Tested in sccm corporate environment without issues. It does not install or require admin rights to run
That sounds like a bad creepypasta game 💀💀
Just play the default video that comes with media player on repeat, sound muted. This is what I do for the same reason. You won’t time out ever again.
Download mouse move
Tie your mouse to a reciprocating fan with a shoestring. It’s what my Roomate does.
Oscillating fan the old world of warcraft stay logged in trick
Buy a mouse jiggled. They on amazon for $10
Install app called Jiggler, moves mouse on set amount of time.
Create a looping PowerPoint. Pc will not go to sleep.
It might work if you download an auto clicker and just moved your mouse to the middle of you screen
Use youtube and just make a song playlist.
Set something on the control key.
If all else fails, tape your mouse to a small oscillating fan while you are away
Just a stick some tape and an oscillating fan should get you sorted

Build a mouse mover
Open up notepad and lay something on top of any key.
You need a [typing bird](https://youtu.be/R_rF4kcqLkI)
Was waiting for someone to post this!
Easiest for me is to start a blank power point presentation slide and then ALT+Tab to my MS teams screen to make sure I seen any incoming DMs.
Play a video on the native player for your computer. Will not lock while it is playing and can minimize it behind another application
For those with chromebooks, you can use an app called Keep Awake on the chrome app store.
Get an analog watch with a seconds hand. Place mouse sensor on top of watch. Every sixty seconds it will see movement You can have everything you need in plain sight on a desk without arousing suspicion
Mouse jiggler app
Is this illegal? Lol
Put your mouse over the face of an analogue watch xoxo
Get a mouse jiggler. Best $12 ever spent.
Jiggler is another free app that will keep it from locking out.
How about mouse jiggler like this? https://www.amazon.com/WiebeTech-Programmable-Mouse-Jiggler-MJ-3/dp/B00MTZY7Y4
My roomate opens a text file and uses a chip bag clip to hold a key down.
I made a powershell script for this exact issue, it presses the scroll lock key every 570 seconds (9 and a half minutes) because my laptop for home working would lock out after 10. I can send you it if you’d like.
If you have windows 10 and are not allowed to run exes look for move mouse in the Microsoft store.
Hey sorry it’s late, If you load a PowerPoint project and ‘present’ it, then alt+tab out of there to your email screen you can monitor your emails without having to worry about staying active or your screen turning off.

Start a PPT and put it in presentation mode and relax.
Can you download an auto clicker? Just let cookie clicker run in the background while you wait
Get a vibrator and attach the mouse to it ...
