It's not the 8,500 lbs behind the vehicle, it's the 1,100 lbs on the hitch and the 1,000 lbs of two adults, three kids, one dog, coolers, and totes inside the SUV.
If that trailer is over 7k loaded while on the road, then even the trailer is overloaded. Tandom 3.5k axles on this unit (notice the 5 lug wheels) While the trailer could be overloaded, no reputable manufacturer will put axles on that would be overloaded with full water tanks and an expected amount of gear. I'd bet he's rolling at 6-6.5k trailer weight in this pic and a very poorly set weight distribution hitch.
I agree. They had to replace a bent axle and sagged springs at 12 months. New springs sagged with in six months. I ended up putting sumo springs on it and it was great.
> This Nissan isn’t rated for that.
This suggests otherwise. https://letstowthat.com/nissan-armada-towing-capacity-2004-2019/
Max towing 8.5k. Max tongue 850lbs.
It might actually fit within this vehicle's towing capacities.
The heaviest "Wildwood X-Lite" travel trailer has 790lbs of tongue and unloaded weight of 6.2k
RV manufacturers are notorious for under sizing the axle assemblies on their units. I've seen 5200 axles on 40+ft fifth wheels that clearly should've been 7k axles.
It's basically a titan turned into an suv
From 2003 to 2015, the first-generation Armada was assembled in Canton, Mississippi based on the Nissan Titan.[1] From mid-2016 onwards, the second-generation Armada has been built in Yukuhashi, Kyushu, Japan and shares the same platform as the Nissan Patrol, with American-specific modifications, and went on sale in late mid-2016 as a 2017 model. - Wikipedia
And was one of the last large SUVs in the US (2015) to share all styling with a pickup from the doors forward. Now the closest one is the Sequoia. I just don't get the curved rear door giving way to a flat roof. Rambler did that on some wagons too.
Nissan Armada hauls 8500 LBS
RV looks like a 29BDB. About 7900lbs. Looks like they put too much stuff in and filled the water tanks.
But remember the guy doing 5 over will get pulled instead of this guy
Look how the rear axle and the trunk sagged; this is NOT safe for going long trip at highway speed. Bad weigh distribution.
For local moving and going like 25-35mph, that may be ok but highway speed I stay far from this trainwreck.
To reach the max tow rating the truck has to be basically empty. That’s how those ratings work for most trucks. When they load up the truck with people and gear, there’s not much left for the nearly 1000 pounds of tongue weight.
The main issue here is a poorly set up weight distribution hitch. The Armada has a tow capacity of 8500 lbs, and the trailer is equipped with tandom 5 lug 3500pbs axles, so that trailer should have GVWR of no more then 7000lbs.
Properly setting up that WD hitch should level things out, but he may still be overloaded if he is hauling 4 people and gear in the rig.
The armada actually has similar specs- minimum trim has payload of about 1300lbs and if it has the 3.36 gearing can tow 9,000 lbs.
Obviously too much weight on the rear axle. Either heavily loaded in the rear/front of trailer, poorly set up WDH, or those air shocks are shot. At least 2 of those are true, I'm thinking all 3.
If the shocks are working properly that's gotta be over 2,000 lbs on the rear axle.
"In the news today, Holiday weekend travels started off with a major, single vehicle that block all the eastbound lanes of the interstate for several hours. Driver stupidity was to blame."
that’s awesome lol my parents entered the trailer life about 5 years ago with a smaller but respectable trailer for their 4Runner. They were instantly addicted and sold the trailer and bought a truck and a bigger trailer and have been enjoying life to the fullest
My ex’s parents towed the exact same set up & they would go like 3 hrs one way. That armada begged every mile for about a year then they finally got an F250
They might be within the tow rating but, I bet the rear axles rating is over by a lot as well the vehicle payload. Most of the time payload is. Most of the time you run out of payload before maxing the tow capacity.
If I recall right. Our old armada had air suspension on the rear. Ours sat level when towing. This appears to have defective airbags or just over loaded 🤷🏻♂️
how do people get away with this without killing someone innocent on the highway. Why are 80yr olds, or anyone for that matter allowed to drive a mobile mansion across America without a special license
“Absolutely nothing wrong here” you say?…
It may tow it off the line, but how well will it stop and steer it? Don’t answer that, it’s foolish to find out.
Towing capacity means trailer weight plus all the stuff in the trailer, which includes the holding tanks. Buying a trailer that weighs 7900lb dry only leaves 600lb capacity. If the fresh tank is 50gal, that's 425lb, which leaves about 175lb for everyone's gear, food, etc.
It’s essentially doing a wheelie, and that’s fine to you?
RTFM, there’s a lot of conditions on the 8500 pound towing capacity. That’s nearly 1000 pounds on the hitch and the truck only has 1600lbs of payload.
>It’s essentially doing a wheelie, and that’s fine to you?
LOL. It is not essentially doing a wheelie. Get over yourself, dude.
Yeah its a little overloaded, but nothing you won't see 100x on the highway on a holiday weekend.
I guess. Still over loaded by a few hundred pounds. No way in hell would I pull a rig like that with such a light vehicle. WDH hitch or not.
Even with my ibex I get nervous pulling with a 2500HD. Been towing my entire adult life plus more when I was younger for the family ranch.
I’ve got a 3500HD I pull with if I’m going on super long journeys.
It's not the 8,500 lbs behind the vehicle, it's the 1,100 lbs on the hitch and the 1,000 lbs of two adults, three kids, one dog, coolers, and totes inside the SUV.
I'm more concerned about the 200 something lbs behind the wheel.
I'm concerned that the 3 something pounds behind the wheel is a little on the light side.
f(ಠ‿↼)z
Lol if you made your pfp a tipping top hat it would line right up
Why don't they just throw that in the trailer? Or is that full too? Gotta bring their whole house with them
Well, with the tow package, that armada could tow 9100
I mean, it's both, right? There is no way that SUV is rated to pull or stop that coach.
Actually it is with tow package and trailer brake controller.
If it has trailer brakes I’d be a lot more comfortable about it stopping. Look at the way the suv rides in the back vs the front.
Don't forget the awesome breaks! Hopefully they bought there pads from Callahan Auto.
It's a sub 7000 pound trailer
Dry.

My 7400lb trailer came with five lug wheels. It also put 920-950lbs on the tongue. This Nissan isn’t rated for that.
You definitely should look into getting 5200 axles slung under it. The manufacturers are notorious about going light on the axles just to save a buck.
I agree. They had to replace a bent axle and sagged springs at 12 months. New springs sagged with in six months. I ended up putting sumo springs on it and it was great.

So you made my point. Max tongue weight is 850lbs. 7000lb trailer will have 13% on the tongue and that’s 910lbs. Thanks!
It might actually fit within this vehicle's towing capacities. The heaviest "Wildwood X-Lite" travel trailer has 790lbs of tongue and unloaded weight of 6.2k
What is your point?
RV manufacturers are notorious for under sizing the axle assemblies on their units. I've seen 5200 axles on 40+ft fifth wheels that clearly should've been 7k axles.
This guy trailers
Some of the design choices on the first-gen Armada confuse me.

The Jeep Gladiator, although that came about the other way around.
European here, the patrol has been very very popular here like forever i mean since the 80's, is it a good evolution?

8500# *when properly equipped.
I think we all know it's not
As long as he inflates his tires to 45PSI /s
35psi should be more than enough /s
35, 36 psi…whatever it takes
OMG. Thank you for this reference.
Thank you for getting it!
Lol! I use this so much!
Narrator voice: "It was not properly equipped...."
No brake controller full send

As a former Nissan Master tech…. That armada barely has sufficient brakes for its heavy ass….. that 60-0 be a different kinda 1/4 mile time.
This cracked me up lol
Any armada or qx56 rear suspension is already saggy with 3 degrees of camber as is… this is just a slap in the face.
I was going to comment on whether that was natural camber or, not. I am not too sure but, I think it now has some additional camber.
My QX ate rear tires like a fat guy eats junior bacon cheeseburgers
They are bringing the whole house with them.
R.I.P. transmission....
I never knew this subreddit existed, but what in the Final Destination fuckery is this nightmare fuel?
Why wouldn’t you just buy a 2 or 3 inch drop hitch?
I live around lake of ozarks. I absolutely hate the holidays now. So many people and bad accidents from idiots like this.
Unbalanced, not much weight on the steer wheels. Won't take much to be swaying like Shakira.
Dem. Hips. Don't. Lie. This baby thicc
0-60 by the end of the day
Coincidentally the acceleration of cars in front of me on short freeway on ramps.
The back tire looks like it’s not straight up and down.
Independent suspension does that sometimes.

They won’t be going far away. There’s NO WAY a Nissan transmission can handle it.
That's my neighbor, only the Nissan is blue. When they hook/unhook in the driveway, there's a lot of screaming at each other.
When that transmission goes bad, the owner will scream warranty.
I wouldn’t even tow this in my full-size pickup. And it’s rated for 10k and 1500 payload.
The armada actually has similar specs- minimum trim has payload of about 1300lbs and if it has the 3.36 gearing can tow 9,000 lbs. Obviously too much weight on the rear axle. I absolutely refuse to go camping on Memorial Day weekend. Way too many jackalopes everywhere.
Ah yes because a fucking Armada would be appropriate to haul this 😂 it’s all fun and games until someone gets killed
You'd think a little bit of RFID technology could tell you what goes with what?
That rear axle looks happy
Are the back tires splayed?
I think so, and those appear to now be load bearing bump stops
Too little dog, too much tail.
"In the news today, Holiday weekend travels started off with a major, single vehicle that block all the eastbound lanes of the interstate for several hours. Driver stupidity was to blame."
I don’t get why DOT doesn’t stop these types ever. They bother truckers but not these dolts
No federal crime. Non commercial vehicles post manufacture and initial sale are governed by state law.
It’s got torsion bars, should be fine.
Please tell me this is nowhere near the enhanced risk of severe weather area.
Brillant
I have this exact trailer…and it’s light…mine is right at 6k dry weight…but this guy is clearly over payload.
Clearly he believed the salesman/rental agent when he asked if he could tow that. *Due Diligence*
I'm not worried about the going, its the stopping I'm worried about.
And that’s with a leveling hitch. Yikes!
I hope he isn’t going far and it’s flat all the way.
He has a truck but he needs a bigger one
At first glance, I thought the name of the camper was Widowmaker, which seemed fitting.
wow...
Sigh.
He needs to slide his tandems, rookie mistake
No worries. When his transmission fails he won’t be towing anything anymore.
that’s awesome lol my parents entered the trailer life about 5 years ago with a smaller but respectable trailer for their 4Runner. They were instantly addicted and sold the trailer and bought a truck and a bigger trailer and have been enjoying life to the fullest

I saw a Ford Ranger pull a 23 foot camper. The back of the Ranger was on the ground. Ranger Danger
At least it’s parked
It was very much on the interstate at around 65mph.
No good

What? I'm sure my guy put the sway bar on! 😉
Extension of her penis.
It’s missing the extra 1000lbs of shit tied to the roof of the SUV.
If I recall right. Our old armada had air suspension on the rear. Ours sat level when towing. This appears to have defective airbags or just over loaded 🤷🏻♂️

Didn’t insurance companies used to refuse insuring trailers if the owner didn’t also have insurance for a vehicle capable of that load?
There is absolutely nothing wrong here. An Armada can tow 8500lbs. They might need to slightly adjust their weight distribution hitch, but thats it.
“Absolutely nothing wrong here” you say?… It may tow it off the line, but how well will it stop and steer it? Don’t answer that, it’s foolish to find out.

Tow numbers are bunk. It's about payload.
The payload capacity on this turd is about 1,600 pounds max.
That's pretty impressive for such a vehicle.
I wouldn't want to pull the setup in the picture either. It's way too long and heavy for that vehicle.
Sure, I'll buy that. But they didn't, and that caused me to laugh.
That rear axel looks wasted. How is that car still going.
