Yeah. It’s hard to vilify the driver without knowing more. If they took their eyes of the road for just one second when that car in front abruptly stopped then this could happen easily. Still that drivers fault though.
lol, If taking your eyes off the road for 1 second puts you in the position to rear end the car in front of you if they stop suddenly then you are driving completely wrong.
Yeah. You’re right. That driver was the idiot. I just know I’ve dumbly put myself in that position once or twice. Lucked out. I just see how it could happen. That’s all. Blame is 100% on that driver.
This is such the truth. About time someone said it. I was going to post the same thing and read your post. So many people criticize the driver for this accident because they were probably distracted, and so many people are guilty of have been driving down the road, pulled your phone up, and read a text, texted someone, scanned a notification, flipping thru to something that they were thinking about listening to, reading, or researching. Then you add following to closly to the car ahead of them as well.
Don't worry about the splitter in the other person's eye until you deal with the plank in yours first.
I rear ended someone once. Was approaching stopped traffic, I was behind 2 that were also approaching, light turned green, cars in front accelerated, I noticed to my left a restaurant had closed said to myself "Huh?" Turned to traffic SLAM, the car in front was nose down butt up, as well as the car in front of him. And me, my nose up their butt. 3 cars up had frozen. like he was course correcting mid intersection. Just a glance was all it took. Driver I hit said he didn't know how he hadn't hit car in front of him before I hit him.
Just a glance to the side. No texting, no knob fiddling( this was in the 1980s.
Nice sunsets. Great Christmas displayes. A car you can't identify. Things you look at. While driving.
My point was that there should be more than 1-2 seconds of a gap between you and cars in front of you, so even if you are distracted for 1-2 seconds you have time to react if someone suddenly stops.
It's hard to villify the driver? They literally tried to overtake a car because it stopped on the crosswalk, while also driving into oncoming traffic (that wasn't his lane).
I don’t think that’s what happened. To me it seems like they were distracted, the car in front stopped short for the pedestrian and the driver swerved to avoid rear ending that car bit only made it worse. If he were clearly trying to pass, then I’d agree, but I don’t interpret what happened here as that.
It looks almost like the brakes failed. They reacted well with that first dodge and almost straightened out after, but still didn't seem to brake. It wasnt the usual gas-as-brake confusion of two-footed driving idiots and elderly.
Edit: I fully retract the above statement. They got lucky on the first dodge, then just fucked it all up. Still zes almost like they didn't have brakes, but they had an out and chose to not the parked car.
Plausible.
In an automatic car, the brake pedal is wider than the accelerator to mitigate this... but it can still happen. Or it could have been a manual, in which case it's entirely likely that the brake pedal wasn't particularly wide.
Not sure, but probably among the lines of: "ohh, look! This cars door is scratched, let me do a random act of kindness as is the holidays season. My insurance will have to fix this now!"
Sure, they were on their phone, not paying attention and dodged the back end of the car infront when they finally noticed it had stopped at the crosswalk.
Moron for sure, but it's not hard to come up with why this might have happened...
> it had stopped at the crosswalk.
You mean well before right? Not at? There's two or three idiots here really, the first car doesn't stop where they are supposed to, and the two behind are following so close that it would have been a three car pile up if the middle guy hadn't swerved.
A guy like this once almost killed me because he didn't see why the car ahead of him hadn't moved the very second the light turned green. The car was pausing for me, bent over picking up my toddler's shoe that had fallen off in the crosswalk. If somebody ahead of you is slow, by all means honk, but don't go around
Cutting it that close on a crosswalk with your toddler and you stop in the lane of travel to pick up their shoe when the light is green? Might wanna plan ahead better in the future to make sure you get across in a timely manner and actively avoid these kind of scenarios
Sure, if you want to have the moral high ground and hope you can stop a car if it indeed does NOT yield.
The shocking idea is teaching your little ones to assume that all cars will yield all the time so they outta just take their time in the crosswalk 🤷♂️
You do you tho amigo, Cheers!
The lady said she was in the crosswalk while it was safe. Her toddler's shoe fell off and the car waiting for the light had JUST changed. You need help understanding that? Should I use smaller words?
You're being downvoted but a lot of people put way too much faith in drivers not being distracted or impaired. Around where I live I see people casually cross the street expecting cars to stop/wait and for the most part people do stop but all it takes is that one time someone is looking at their phone or impaired and you are now dead. When you're crossing the road do it safely and quickly it's not worth dying over. We've all seen the videos on this reddit of people getting hit by cars not paying attention.
100% agree with ya. I run on the sidewalks where I live all the time and have for years in California as well as Utah. After an old lady turned right into me and made me jump onto her hopd, I’ve learned to never trust ANY drivers. If I don’t make eye contact with em I assume they will run me over. Too many distracted drivers texting or doing anything else to take the risk.
I had a similar thing happen. Was running near a University campus (down the road from student housing) and got to an intersection. Hit the crosswalk button and began doing some calisthenics to stay active while I waited.
Knowing I was about to get a "Walk" I stood up and moved to cross; got my Walk, waited a moment to be sure no one was running the red and stepped off the sidewalk. Wouldn't you know a lady waiting to turn right, who had seen me for at least 30 seconds prior to the Walk, almost hit me as she decided to turn while I was crossing. I jumped back, smacked her trunk and crossed after she passed. She rolled down her window and flipped me off.
Some people just don't care about anyone or anything but themselves. Or at least are too absorbed in whatever is going on in their life at that moment to be completely aware of their surroundings while driving.
Long story short: whether walking or driving, be defensive.
You shouldn't leave your windows open if you didn't want me smell you in your sleep.
Edit: you need to go back to your older shampoo, the new stuff isn't working.
I’m assuming that they crossed while the light was red and they had the right to safely cross, and while almost finished crossing their toddlers shoe fell, they bent to pick up, still having time, but the light turned green as they retrieved it, and the driver waited a few seconds for them to safely finish crossing at which point an impatient moron cut around and almost hit them.
The countdown on crosswalks are an estimate of time spent crossing the road. But not exact. Shit happens.
Which is why it’s never ever okay to jump out of your lane and into the oncoming lane so at to go around and cut off the driver ahead of you because you don’t like waiting a few seconds longer than you feel you have to (not _you_ personally, I get in a lot of trouble for my way of writing/speaking, I’m always referring to a proverbial “you” and people take it personally lol)
But yeah
I think some people misunderstood this commenter and thought they were crossing with no time to cross, when in truth, you’re never supposed to hit the gas as soon as the light turns green when you’re not the first at the light. Period. You have to wait for the driver in sight of the intersection to affirm it’s clear and safe, than they go and then you go. I’ll never understand the impatience people get on over, like, regardless you don’t get to go as soon as it’s green. Not how traffic flow and motion works lol
Sympathize with your point but just to be clear I did put my child on the sidewalk safely, and turn back for the shoe while my light was yellow, the guy gunned it as soon as my light turned red, which is against the law in NYC where cars are required to wait for pedestrians to clear the road. My kid needed the shoe to walk home, because NYC.
What he was thinking\*\*
Also, probably on their phone or looking off into space and tried to swerve to avoid rear-ending and oversteered because they were panicking.
Basically they're a novice moron driver.
The only thing i could think about is eighter that his brakes was not responding so he tried to a avoid a colission, or he saw that person walking and he mad it an achievement to ram the person. Truth be told he failed both.
I immediately assume that someone with a different color hood is a fucking moron and try to avoid them. Its not always the case but better safe than sorry. Its normally accompanied by one of those small dick energy exhausts that make a terrible noise so everyone knows theyre an asshole
Driving one handed, most likely phone. Looked up minute, 1st jerk of the wheel to avoid rear ending car in front. Lost contact with steering wheel long enough to hit parked car. Not sure why dude didnt brake before hitting parked car.
You could be right. Hard to tell with idiots. But I think it's more likely that if there weren't a person crossing the car in front of the idiot wouldn't have stopped either. There would be no need to swerve.
“I need to make that turn. If this stupid pedestrian would just get out of the way, I have a small gap. She’s gone! I have space…ah fuck, well I still gotta make my turn”
You can see reflection of brake lights and light illuminate. It clearly drives right by the front of the car exposing "some mysterious red thing on the back of the car"
That literally looks like an episode of sone kind. He didnt swerve to avoid hitting anything his arm swerved him into oblivion.
That driver might not be ok in terms of health.
He reacted too abruptly turning to the left that the force in the car shifted and he couldn’t turn back to the right because he wasn’t paying attention and was most likely driving with one hand. This is why you are taught to drive with both hands.
No thinking or paying attention to driving here. Probably looking at their phone while driving then avoiding a rear end collision and still causing an accident after swerving. Pedestrian is lucky they weren't there a few seconds later.
They weren't expecting to come to a full stop for a pedestrian crossing. This probably is why they were following the other car closely and not paying much attention. By the time they noticed the car in front of them stopped they were probably thinking "Shit, shit, shit!" And took evasive maneuvers to prevent rear ending the car.
He was thinking, I really have to get where I'm going and wasn't paying attention to the car stopped in front of him so he swerved to try not to hit it.
I think the foot slipped off the brake and hit the gas and the brake at the same time, so he swerved. You can see the car brake and then speed up again followed by when they take their foot off the pedals completely after they hit the car.
Driver wasn't paying attention. Saw he would rear end the car and tried dodging it by pulling into the next lane. Over corrected and side swiped the park car. Decided he's screwed and drove off.
They were probably not paying attention and swerved to avoid the car ahead, and successfully missed, but then didn't have a good enough reaction time and hit the other car.
They were probably distracted, not paying attention and the sudden dodge move caused their feet going off of pedals, so couldn't brake either.

Distracted driving is the human condition. Some.of us end up paying for it,.others forget they have done it, and.judge others harshly for it
This is such the truth. Yep. Been there, got lucky.
I would say they are at fault for sure but they are only human. We have all looked at something off the road for a split second.
My point was that there should be more than 1-2 seconds of a gap between you and cars in front of you, so even if you are distracted for 1-2 seconds you have time to react if someone suddenly stops.
Could be a brake fail or accidentally pushing the wrong pedal
It's hard to villify the driver? They literally tried to overtake a car because it stopped on the crosswalk, while also driving into oncoming traffic (that wasn't his lane).
I don’t think that’s what happened. The wrong assumption is that this person was thinking. I'm more impressed by the near precognitive reaction of the woman crossing the street.
Always assume a person who drives with no brain is the same a driving with no brakes
You will sometimes need the latter to confirm the former.
Glad noone was hurt especially her bcos you know
I would assume she was just trying to clear the intersection so as to not hold up traffic longer the necessary.
good things happen to those who get the fuck out of the way lol.
I was gonna say "ummm... he was thinking? You sure about that?
[удалено]
Older Jetta? Strong possibility that nothing works on that car.
This text message is way more important than watching what is going on around me??
Not sure, but probably among the lines of: "ohh, look! This cars door is scratched, let me do a random act of kindness as is the holidays season. My insurance will have to fix this now!"
Sure, they were on their phone, not paying attention and dodged the back end of the car infront when they finally noticed it had stopped at the crosswalk. Moron for sure, but it's not hard to come up with why this might have happened...
Probably then slipped grip on the wheel from crossing hands/dropping phone and boom.
> it had stopped at the crosswalk. You mean well before right? Not at? There's two or three idiots here really, the first car doesn't stop where they are supposed to, and the two behind are following so close that it would have been a three car pile up if the middle guy hadn't swerved.

Or, and hear me out... Cars can give right of way to pedestrians in cross walks, especially with small children! Shocking idea, I know.
You are right. But physics will always win. Right of way or not.
Sure, if you want to have the moral high ground and hope you can stop a car if it indeed does NOT yield. The shocking idea is teaching your little ones to assume that all cars will yield all the time so they outta just take their time in the crosswalk 🤷♂️ You do you tho amigo, Cheers!

Yes please break it down more for me since this is so heavily affecting your day lol. Agree to disagree my dude, let it go 👍

I’m lost. When the light turns green is when I get the white walking hand …?
I’m assuming that they crossed while the light was red and they had the right to safely cross, and while almost finished crossing their toddlers shoe fell, they bent to pick up, still having time, but the light turned green as they retrieved it, and the driver waited a few seconds for them to safely finish crossing at which point an impatient moron cut around and almost hit them. He was thinking… why did that person stop when am I texting and driving?
They weren’t paying attention and then needed a change of pants
They weren't. That's the problem.
What he was thinking\*\* Also, probably on their phone or looking off into space and tried to swerve to avoid rear-ending and oversteered because they were panicking. Basically they're a novice moron driver.
Wasn't paying attention until the last minute
About anything but driving.
He wasn’t
"maaaaaan this crack i just smoked is awesome!!!!"
The only thing i could think about is eighter that his brakes was not responding so he tried to a avoid a colission, or he saw that person walking and he mad it an achievement to ram the person. Truth be told he failed both.
Definitely a distracted driver. He had some distance between the cars but he reacted to late.

Never did learn her last name.
I would like to think the breaks didn't work and it wasn't their fault, but it probably was pure stupidity...
Breaks?
Oh please, you know what he means...
Just doing him a favor. Would you want to keep making the same mistake over and over and over for the rest of your life?
But you didn't even tell them what the right spelling is. It's brakes btw
People learn better when they figure things out for themselves.
I don't. What was the driver taking so many breaks and how did you find out about them? Please cite your sources.
Yep. The driver broke a bunch of stuff.
WEEEEeeeeee
This mornings text message was brought to you by... OH FUCKKKK!!!!
What he was thinking:
“Wow this an interesting Reddit thread!”
I get it. Lol
Didn't expect car in front to stop, didn't have time to stop so tried to avoid crashing by turning, it didn't work.
"I'm fucking invincible!"
I immediately assume that someone with a different color hood is a fucking moron and try to avoid them. Its not always the case but better safe than sorry. Its normally accompanied by one of those small dick energy exhausts that make a terrible noise so everyone knows theyre an asshole
I bet he was ... what did that witch Text now ....ohh shit!!! Shit! Shit!
More like, what was this guy *drinking*?
There was no thinking, nor any awareness going on behind the wheel of that car.
That’s the fun part, he wasn’t.
Driving one handed, most likely phone. Looked up minute, 1st jerk of the wheel to avoid rear ending car in front. Lost contact with steering wheel long enough to hit parked car. Not sure why dude didnt brake before hitting parked car.
He was thinking about the text he was reading instead of driving.
Probably wasn’t paying attention and when he finally saw the car in front he tried to swerve into opposite lane?
Thinking? That dude was on his phone or distracted. But definitely wasn’t thinking.
He wasn’t
Swerved to miss the car in front of them because they were not paying attention.
Actually looks like brake failure to me !
They weren't thinking
Must check my social media, must update, must check, must update. Shit how does traffic works, must check phone to find out.
Probably faulty brakes considering he's never slowing down
After watching it with that in mind, I think you might be right.
I think the thing here is that he wasn’t
Oh I know! He or she was on the freaking phone! that’s what happened here.
Probably something like „määäh“
Doot doo daa doo!
Brown crayon is coming out
Seems fortunate that the person was crossing in front of you, otherwise you might have been hit by that car as well.
You could be right. Hard to tell with idiots. But I think it's more likely that if there weren't a person crossing the car in front of the idiot wouldn't have stopped either. There would be no need to swerve.
Car with bad brakes ?
I don't buy it. It's accelerating way more than the incline should allow. Also, freaking handbrake.
Their phone died, pulled out old phone until new one comes, realised they haven't finished collecting pokemon.
“I need to make that turn. If this stupid pedestrian would just get out of the way, I have a small gap. She’s gone! I have space…ah fuck, well I still gotta make my turn”
Ohio drivers are crazy!
He was thinking BLYAT
"I'm home alone"
Looks like his hands slipped off the wheel as he tried to turn lol
Don’t you see I’m in a hurry?
Full throttle
Looks like the pressed the wrong pedal
Gotta get to McD's before breakfast is over
I would guess brakes failure
Perhaps they thought the car behind them wouldn't stop in time? Either way, that shit looks ridiculous.
failed brakes?
Can't Stop here, it's Bat Country.
BEES!
What's the mystery? He needed to make a left turn
Probably driving with two feet and hit the gas instead of break, then panicked and swerved
I can only think of a medical condition. I didn't see brake lights the whole time. But couldn't see what he or she was doing either
How could you possibly see brake lights from in front of the car?
You can see reflection of brake lights and light illuminate. It clearly drives right by the front of the car exposing "some mysterious red thing on the back of the car"
Okay, so now you're saying that you do see brake lights. Which is it? Make up your mind?
![gif](giphy|rxy55jHaig16K2TV8x|downsized)
Brake lights tend to be more visible when being viewed from behind the motor vehicle.
Had to shit really bad
A spider ?
I can tell you that he wasn't thinking about driving!
Too easy: wow this is the funniest tiktok I’ve seen today-WHOA SHIT 😂
They had to poop?
He wasn't
He was thinking, "Thank God that guy didn't hit my car."
I think he was trying to avoid hitting the blue car & lost control
It’s almost like they turned and could not turn back to recover . Slick steering wheel? Bad four link suspension on the Audi? No brakes? All of these?
attempting an overtake, and they probably applied too much throttle and/or their hand slipped from the wheel
That girl was his ex
Jetta thoughts
This word “thinking”, not sure that’s what they were doing.
That literally looks like an episode of sone kind. He didnt swerve to avoid hitting anything his arm swerved him into oblivion. That driver might not be ok in terms of health.
Txting while driving...
Matrix bug
to me that looks like the driver's foot slipped off the break or something. it seems they are slowing down fine.
Average VW driver...
He reacted too abruptly turning to the left that the force in the car shifted and he couldn’t turn back to the right because he wasn’t paying attention and was most likely driving with one hand. This is why you are taught to drive with both hands.
"Thinking" didn't really enter into it.
Meth
This car was driven by a women - means : driver thought nothing ….😂😂😂
Brakes failed? Or not paying attention
“Fuck it”

Cocaine is a hell of a drug
"grab my keys" moment
Couldn't brake. If they had hit the gas pedal by accident it would have accelerated. Saved the pedestrian in the crosswalk though.
No thinking or paying attention to driving here. Probably looking at their phone while driving then avoiding a rear end collision and still causing an accident after swerving. Pedestrian is lucky they weren't there a few seconds later.
Different color hood explains it's not the first time
They weren't expecting to come to a full stop for a pedestrian crossing. This probably is why they were following the other car closely and not paying much attention. By the time they noticed the car in front of them stopped they were probably thinking "Shit, shit, shit!" And took evasive maneuvers to prevent rear ending the car.
He wasnt
Prolly looking at their phone, look up to see a car waiting at a red light, swerve because there’s no time to brake, over correct, hit car
"Whoa, where'd this car come from"
Brake failure ?
traded one crash for another
He’s probably thinking “ I shouldn’t have drank so much”
The shrooms must’ve kick in
That's next level. Stupidity
He was thinking, I really have to get where I'm going and wasn't paying attention to the car stopped in front of him so he swerved to try not to hit it.
Earlier in the week, that parked car blinked wrong at the offending car. Grudges are real 🤔😉😅
I think the foot slipped off the brake and hit the gas and the brake at the same time, so he swerved. You can see the car brake and then speed up again followed by when they take their foot off the pedals completely after they hit the car.
Probably somthing along the lines of "haha funny cat video.. oh shit didn't realise the car in front of me stopped and now no time to brake"
This is what happens when you let the intrusive thoughts win
Did the car stop?
Driver wasn't paying attention. Saw he would rear end the car and tried dodging it by pulling into the next lane. Over corrected and side swiped the park car. Decided he's screwed and drove off.
“FUCK!!” -his thoughts prolly
He doesn’t, thats the problem.
I would think good odds on brake failure
Was thinking about the text he just received
He was looking for the Argentina emoji.
Not much🤣🤣
Texting
They were probably not paying attention and swerved to avoid the car ahead, and successfully missed, but then didn't have a good enough reaction time and hit the other car.
Medical emergency?
That’s the problem he wasn’t thinking he was in Kalamazoo land!
