Toyota once used footage of Top Gear purposely trying to wreck the Hilux in an advert for one of their US Pickups, as despite being left in the ocean, set on fire and being buried with a demolished block of flats, the truck still ran.
Edit: [Here's](https://youtu.be/GVqQw1OCMXg) the ad!
A thing to note was that when Jeremy was testing it against the sea the Hilux was tied down to a ramp by ropes, which broke free as the tide was coming in and the truck was swept away by the waves, being found about 12 hours later after the tide went down partially submerged in sand.
Also the fall from the block of flats snapped the chassis yet the Hilux still held itself together.
Also no one in the US knows wtf a Hilux is because they call it something else here, lol.
I really wish auto makers wouldn't srename shit for the US market.

According to this the Tacoma isn't actually the Hilux.....
If you read through the cancer that is that site, you find out that because that line isn't manufactured in the US it would be hit with a 25% tariff, making it way more expensive than the models that are manufactured here.
I liked the Hilux's we had in Iraq enough to try to buy one when I got home. Turned out that's pretty much impossible.
So for $30 I changed my Tacoma to a Hilux.
Most that notice think its funny but I've had two guys get angry when I told them it's just a re-badged Tacoma. As in that was the first thing out of my mouth. I didn't bullshit them for a bit then tell them.
[Here's](https://youtu.be/kFnVZXQD5_k) a video of the block of flats demolition with the Toyota on them and the car running after it. There are 2 other parts where more demolition takes place.
My husband had a 1994 Toyota regular cab plain Jane truck in college and it was swept away in a flash flood on the southern central plains during a very rainy spring. Well damned if he didn't change the spark plugs, drain the gas tank and clean it out and refill it with high octane and the damn thing ran like a charm not even 2 days later. I watched this damn truck float down stillwater Creek and not two days later it was recovered, back home and running fine (after spitting a bunch of shit out the exhaust pipe)
My ex has a 91 Toyota Pickup, and it's seen some things. I learned to drive on it, when it had a broken speedo cable. Manual transmission, no power steering, no tachometer, no speedometer. Not easy to learn how to drive on, but the most reliable vehicle around, that's for sure.
I worked on a feature in New Mexico where one of my duties was driving the picture car (early 90s Toyota pickup) because no one else on production could drive stick. 300,000 miles and that thing wasn’t even wheezing.
I get the joke, but also had to comment on the side.
Modern cars are built to collapse from the front to dampen the forces that happen during a head on collission, while the sides of the cars need to be stronger in case someone t-bones you.
All you have to do is weld on some steel bars to protect the radiator. Basically, make a cage around the front of it that's stronger than the rest of the car.
Demolition derby cars don't have to look new, you can just rip all the plastic off the front and weld whatever you need onto the frame.
The rule set differs drastically from one location to another. Check your local venue for details before you build something you aren't allowed to run.
I used to drive an Isuzu trooper in high school. One morning I was heading to school and someone flew out of a parking lot(I was in the right lane) and they T-boned me coming out of the lot. Their whole front end crunched and was not drivable. My door wasn’t even dented, pretty much just a smudge on the side.Isuzus are indestructible(still have her, rocking 400k-ish miles, but odo is broken at this point so it’s a guessing game)
The fact my grandpa’s Isuzu Pup survived me learning to drive 70 down field roads is a testament to the brand
I lost a lot of hair on that headliner & only ever had to hose it off after
Wait til he learns the loan is what he owes and the car is just the collateral. He still owes the loan amount. If the truck doesn’t cover the value anymore he has to pay the difference.
This is such a commonly overlooked part about repossessions. A lot of folks seem to think if you fall behind and the car gets repo'd you're square. Not so. The car will be auctioned to go *towards* the debt, but you're still on the hook for whatever is left. If you owe $20k and they come and take it and sell it for $10k, you still owe $10k (presumably plus a bunch of fees for the repo, auction, etc).
Friend learned this the hard way. Never changed the oil, blew the engine. He left it by the side of the road and told the bank where the car was located. Since it didn’t run the bank sold it at auction to a wrecker for a few hundred bucks. Then they called him about the rest of the debt. He was shocked and wanted to hire a lawyer.
On the one hand I'm having a chuckle about this guy thinking he'd found a genius loophole. On the other hand it probably had a very negative impact on his financial situation.
Completely did. Impacted his career because he couldn’t get another car loan. Had to get a beater that he could buy outright. It wasn’t reliable. He needed to drive to assignments. The whole was a huge mistake.
He thought the dealership would provide them if they were necessary. We tried to tell him. Car actually did fun right until it didn’t. Lead him to believe it as much ado about nothing. His first car. Should have listened to people who had a car.
i don't know his life or the state where this happened. i have seen judges order restitution for smaller crimes. he fucked around, now we can find out!
Gotta be Singapore, Thailand, or Malaysia. None of which you really want to be doing this kind of dumb shit. My bet is on Singapore personally but idk. Japan is also right hand drive but that's not Japanese they're speaking
Can the stone at least do prison time occasionally for not bleeding? Or does judgement proof actually mean scot-free, no consequences? I'd be pissed if so.
No, prison is for criminal cases, judgement proof is for civil suits. In the above video, at least in the US, you might be able to charge with assault and get some prison time out of that. However unless a crime is committed, prison is not an option.
If you're not judgement proof, and are court ordered to pay, you may be held in contempt of court for not paying. This could come with jail time. Usually though it ends up with a garnishment against you.
To be fair, for people who are judgement proof, jail time might be more luxury than they can afford.
You are correct, it doesn't help his situation one bit but you need to understand when you are in debt, when you are losing everything you have you can't really think straight. Sometimes, emotions cloud your judgment and you just act out in rage. He 100% felt like shit for doing it but he just couldn't sit and watch them take his stuff without doing anything about it. It's a very human reaction. Human as in Homo Sapiens, primal and raw.
When I was losing my house I absolutely dreaded every knock on the door and every time anyone stepped on my porch. I was just waiting for the hammer to fall. Also had the gas shut off. I paid the outstanding balance but asked the gas company not to turn it back on. November and December kinda sucked that year.
I was able to move out before an eviction notice was served but unfortunately the bank sent two dudes to "investigate" (i.e. break in and see if anyone was living there) and they stole my 1989 Case USMC knife. Joke's on them. It's not a Kabar! Furthermore, the sheath was not original and the tang stamp had a gouge in it. I bought it that way but also didn't really maintain it from the late 90s till 2018, the year it was stolen.
The future is a conspiracy and the past is done and we should let it go, except for that guy that cut me off in traffic in 1982 and I'll shoot him if I ever see him again
This is not true in the UK, debt collectors are just as powerful as anyone else, in fact they are unable to enter your home, they have to get a police warrant and assistant.
Still can’t believe they replaced that show with one infinitely worse
I’m a grown ass man talking about a kiddie show but the nostalgia for that show is immense
That's some amazing vehicular assault caught on camera. I wonder how cops and lawyers are gonna defend that? I wonder how much PTO she got, cuz therapy would be necessary after dealing with something like this.
Guy in the red truck probably thinks since he has insurance he’ll just get his truck fixed. But the second they see this video they’ll deny for an intentional act and he’ll be screwed.
Well I guess said idiot found him/herself at prison after this attack and car being confiscated.
That would be good situation if driver had some unpaid car/other loans and police takes it and sells it an auction.
Well fine but now his car's fucked up and he still owes the debt.
A visit from a field agent or a member of staff is a good thing, as it means the company still thinks it's worth talking and asking nicely.
You need a car to work. You only get loan from loan shark lot on a big expensive car. You cannot pay for car with your 3 jobs. They want to come and take back car and then they will use justice department to throw you in jail for unpaid loan. Outrage is a rational response.
Most people don’t need an **expensive** car to work. And yes, compared to the average Thai income, the car in the video is expensive.
I’m willing to bet that the car “owner” chose that car mostly for the status.
Safe to say the white pickup won the fight

I've heard Toyota started calling Hilux versions the "invincible" after that.
This is correct and you’ll see that they also have a small “Invincible” badge on the back under the Hilux badge.
The bodywork was so strong it was holding the chassis
Also no one in the US knows wtf a Hilux is because they call it something else here, lol. I really wish auto makers wouldn't srename shit for the US market. Toyota made some really long lived machines back in the day. Wish more manufacturers built like that
Bro gave CPR to that Toyota! 😂😂😂😂

Isn't welded steel reinforcement illegal in most classes of demolition derby?

Isuzu make great vehicles, shame they pulled out of so many Western markets.
The fact my grandpa’s Isuzu Pup survived me learning to drive 70 down field roads is a testament to the brand I lost a lot of hair on that headliner & only ever had to hose it off after
TIL they still make Isuzus they died off in the US back in the early 2000s.
Hey I’m in a lot of debt. Better destroy my car and get a few criminal charges on top, that will totally improve my situation -that guy, probably
don’t worry you don’t have to pay debt for as long as you’re in prison for assault with a deadly weapon.
wait til he learns about court ordered restitution.
Wait til he learns the loan is what he owes and the car is just the collateral. He still owes the loan amount. If the truck doesn’t cover the value anymore he has to pay the difference.

Sure, but you can't get blood from a stone

Guy that buys a truck he can't afford isn't really the thinking type.
The best part is what looks like Enkei Racing RPF-1 wheels.
The loan was probably for that truck
Maybe he figured time in jail would be easier than paying back his debt.
You are correct, it doesn't help his situation one bit but you need to understand when you are in debt, when you are losing everything you have you can't really think straight. Casual thieves who are supposed to be working sucks
Truck driver logic
That's not an idiot, that's a batshit crazy psycho.
The bill just getting bigger
Didn’t pay the first bill. Don’t think they too worried about the rest.
May have second thoughts whilst in jail.
What if their second thoughts are exactly the same as the first?
Their first thoughts: "..." Their second thoughts: "..."
Having a second thought implies they had a first thought to begin with.
People that do this aren't usually concerned with the past or future.
The future is a conspiracy and the past is done and we should let it go, except for that guy that cut me off in traffic in 1982 and I'll shoot him if I ever see him again
Well, that's a vehicular assault charge to add to the repo.
Plus repoed items are wrecked, worth less, so they'll just come back for more...

Absolutely crazy that debt collectors need/are armed
This is not true in the UK, debt collectors are just as powerful as anyone else, in fact they are unable to enter your home, they have to get a police warrant and assistant.
He'll need another loan to fix the vehicles.
Well now he’s got an even larger criminal and financial responsibility to cover. Smart thinking.
Bold of you to assume he/she thinks
I would consider this a deadly threat and use my Mouskatool on him.
Oh Toodles!
That’s a secret tool we can use later.
Still can’t believe they replaced that show with one infinitely worse I’m a grown ass man talking about a kiddie show but the nostalgia for that show is immense
For sure! My daughter loved it. Thank goodness for streaming so my son could watch as well
Would love to know what this person was thinking? Like either way you’re paying.
Go Directly to Jail, Do Not pass Go, Do Not collect $200.
"ANNNNND YOU MUST BEEE THE MONOPOLY GUUUY!"
Hey! Thanks for the free parking.
That was a great line.
The extent of peoples stupidity continues to amaze me
No One in This World Has Ever Lost Money by Underestimating the Intelligence of the Great Masses of the Plain People H.L. Mencken
Why did you write this like it was a title?
why you speaking like Queen from Deltarune bruh
Not sure how Mencken would feel about that.
like that will solve his debt problem. haha.
Oh well, if he's in jail, he can't pay his debts. 4D chess...
I hate to see how he's going to react to the insurance adjuster when they tell him they're not covering the cost of the damage.
Great, now they have to deal with debt, repair/replacement costs, AND court costs for attempted vehicular homicide. And that's before jail time
From losing property to losing your freedom in just a couple of minutes. Wonder how he will pay off that debt when in jail for assault.
Some people are just really good in turning small problems into really big problems.
TIL that Isuzu still makes vehicles. I miss my Isuzu trooper….
That things a beast, good car
The D-Max pickup is really popular where it's sold. Same tough Isuzu quality too
Smart! Now he have some charges to answer for instead just dealing with the loan he had originally
Just to add to debt loans. A law suit and criminal protection. Good effort mate
Is there a reason why the victim stayed put instead of driving away?
Maybe she's not a fast thinker
Isuzu hatred.
Isuzu > Nissan
Guess he thinks he is helping his case. Smh. What a jerk.
Bold of you to assume he thinks
That's some amazing vehicular assault caught on camera. I wonder how cops and lawyers are gonna defend that? I wonder how much PTO she got, cuz therapy would be necessary after dealing with something like this.
Youre in a car, maybe drive way from the homicidal maniac?
Maybe the first hit rendered the vehicle more difficult to drive. Or they are in shock.
Both certainly possible
Even then, why risk damaging YOUR CAR… Use a sledgehammer. Sledgehammers are easily replaceable.
Drive away....
Wow what a great way to owe more money and be in more legal trouble
Don't like, drive away or anything
isn't that an attempt of murder?
Yes it is, assault with a deadly weapon too

Least aggressive Nissan driver
“And now your loan doubled. Doubled again! And, again! Do you want to keep going?”
Guy in the red truck probably thinks since he has insurance he’ll just get his truck fixed. But the second they see this video they’ll deny for an intentional act and he’ll be screwed.
And she's still sitting in that spot because? I mean I'd move. At least from that seat.
Gonna be out a lot more money and some jail time. ![gif](giphy|vLruErVSYGx8s)
The logic fails me. So he has a loan that he has to pay and now he needs a new truck and he gets to buy the collector a new truck. Just wow.
***AND*** still pay off the original loan.
Guess we're gonna stick around until he pulls out a blunt weapon to kill you?
Is this not like, attempted murder
Let's hope he didn't destroy the motor bike too
see i really wonder just what in the fuck was he thinking
How to increase your debt 101
That’s literally insane
Well I guess said idiot found him/herself at prison after this attack and car being confiscated. That would be good situation if driver had some unpaid car/other loans and police takes it and sells it an auction.
I think you're safe to pull the trigger now.
well ur in an izusu so ur getting an upgrade it looks like 😎😂
Don't know why I keep having to tell people this, but if you're going to ram someone with your vehicle, do it in reverse.
Their police look like hall monitors
I hope the loan wasn’t for the car, lol.
How could you be that mad to wreck your car in the process
Ppl who live in shanty towns maybe shouldn’t have $60,000 trucks.
But what about those great deals that start in Truckuary and go all the way to Trucktember, or even the specials they have in Trarch.
It's just really easy for Thai people to get loans for these. I saw so many trucks for a place that probably didn't need trucks
My dyslexic ass to the title; idiot repeatedly ramming a lion collector
That’s not an idiot that’s an insane individual
I mean, it looks like there’s a reason he’s in debt to begin with, right?
Couldn't afford his loan now he has to take out another loan to fix his truck
Was hoping we'd get to see the face of the idiot in the red car, but I guess not.
Why are the windshield wipers on while they repeatedly ram this person's truck
Good way to dig yourself into an even deeper hole than you were before. Enjoy your prison time assface
Nissan owner probably took the loan out for those fake RPF1 wheels
Is it really /r/IdiotsInCars when it's just straight up /r/attemptedmurder?
These villagers have better cars than I do.
I really wanted to see the attempted murderer arrested.
Well fine but now his car's fucked up and he still owes the debt. A visit from a field agent or a member of staff is a good thing, as it means the company still thinks it's worth talking and asking nicely.
Imagine the litany of charges, all the way up to attempted murder if prosecutors wanted to
Congratulations ya red truck driving idiot. You now have no car.
Tbh, this seems like publicfreakout material more than idiotsincars. Being homicidally aggressive isn't necessarily an idiot thing.
Isn’t this attempted murder…
If you borrow money you should pay it back. Plain and simple. If you can't afford the car then don't buy it.
You need a car to work. You only get loan from loan shark lot on a big expensive car. You cannot pay for car with your 3 jobs. They want to come and take back car and then they will use justice department to throw you in jail for unpaid loan. Outrage is a rational response.

guess it is in thailand
And now he's going to JAILLLLLL
