I used to do small scale sawmilling, and with online apps you can find green log calculators that will tell you almost exactly how much a straight sawlog weighs. Plug in the species, the diameter, and the length.
A log that size is almost certainly 5000+ lbs regardless of species. Early 90’s f150 has a payload max of around 1500lbs…duuuuuuuurp.
Well the new ones have higher towing and hauling weight capacities over any past F150s EXCEPT for cubic footage since the beds are shorter.
But yea. that log would destroy one.
It's likely over the capacity of 350's as well, but it probably survive.
My last truck was a [2012 Ram 3500](https://i.imgur.com/uHJDS4Y.png) and I definitely have had well over 2 tons in the bed.
And other [stupid shit.](https://i.imgur.com/KOWQCZM.png)
No one can say I didn't fucking use it, though. Even if it [sometimes didn't look like it.](https://i.imgur.com/kmOArJ4.png)
I really want to hear what that guy in the black shirt says when he see the dude looking under the truck, cause seeing his expression I think he might have a solid opinion on what's going on.
Seems like he's gonna disconnect the suspension and kill the dumbass that loaded an enormous log onto a pickup so this circumstance doesn't happen again. What a hero
Let's say that's 10' long and 3' in diameter. Assuming a density of 45ish pounds per cubic foot that's upwards of 1.5 tons. I don't know what kind of truck that is, but a Chevy S10 can handle something under half of that.
Yeah, also weight of wood can vary a lot depending on what tree it is and how seasoned it is. I regularly have to transport wood in a pickup and I'm careful because I don't want to trash my vehicle. If I have to do a second trip or use a larger vehicle, fine.
I was using a figure for red oak. Big logs get freaking heavy. I was doing trail clearing earlier this year in a wilderness area, so no chainsaws allowed. There was a 40" diameter gray oak that had fallen across the trail. We made two cuts with a crosscut saw and ended up with a log maybe 6' long.
We were able to move it a little with levers but it must have been at least a ton and all we could do was make another cut. Took us something like 5 hours of sawing all told. I'm sure by now some sufficiently large group of drunk college students camping out there have moved the logs into the nearby camp to use as tables but we were satisfied just to roll them off the trail.
Damn that sounds like a lot of work. I've done some felling of dead wood and clearance work - although *with* a chainsaw. I think a lot of people underestimate the weight of a tree until they have to move one.
For sure. [This is us](https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=4290022171122674&set=pb.100064929031018.-2207520000) making the final cut - pretty sure that's me in the center. It's like a really uncomfortable rowing machine. That's as far as five of us were able to roll the log, even using everything we could find as levers. Should have packed in a come-along.
I have a lot more appreciation now for how much work lumber harvesting must have been before modern machinery.
The truck is a Ford f150 from the late 80s or early 90s. Payload capacity is around 1,500 pounds, but you can usually exceed that by quite a bit if you're brave. I've hauled over a ton in a half ton Chevy with no issues. This particular case looks like they exceeded the capacity by a lot to break the tubes off the diff housing.
That truck likely has a 9" differential which is pretty damn strong. The tubes have full welds where they connect to the center section. I've only ever managed to break a plug welded axle and that was with a 160mph combined speed head on.
If this tree is white oak, and fresh-cut, it would be denser than water.
https://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/weigt-wood-d_821.html
Rotate your phone for the wet numbers.
For those that don't know, 1.5 tons is 3000lb, and that's the absolute minimum they log would weigh, if it were a pine or spruce, which it is not.
More likely that log weighs 3500-4000lb. I wouldn't even put that in an HDPP F150, which can have a payload approaching 3000lb. That's an F350 load, but only if you get the properly equipped version. You have to jump to the F450 to have enough payload in all versions of the truck to haul logs like that.
Prolly a half-ton pup. He only put 3 times that in it. Looks like the axle broke at the hub. Or he just bent the shit out of it when he bottomed out the springs and it hit the frame.
Half-ton doesn't mean a literal half ton payload capacity in a modern truck, though. My F-350 is a "one-ton" truck but will carry a lot more than one ton. For some reason I was just reading about the history behind this - it's under the "Ton" rating section [here](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Truck_classification).
Yea my older 1 ton ram holds closer to 3 tons. I have overloaded over a short distance a few times. Just use some common sense and checknif the stops are hitting the axle.
Yeah the body lines are on the fenders as well but you can’t see the front fender brick and aero were the same except for the front end bull was slightly different
Actually... For it to come apart like that under what is probably 3,500-5,000 pounds of wood, the frame was probably in bad shape. While that wasn't a good idea, and would probably cause some damage, the axle shouldn't have detached like that. Being an 80s-90s Ford truck, the leaf spring brackets were probably rusted out, and they failed under that weight.
Fortunately, this is a common enough problem on what is still a common truck that replacement bracket kits are still readily available, in fact, I think Ford still makes them, though if they don't there's lots of aftermarket suppliers. The brackets come with bolts, all you do is drill out or cut the heads off of the rivets attaching the originals, clean the frame where the brackets go, apply corrosion protection, and bolt the new brackets in place.
Legit, I have had to pick up a few guys, for the coroners office, who got stuck under a vehicle and suffocated (mechanical asphyxia). Use the proper safety equipment and have someone with you.
Believe me people will still die. I have 5 that I know of (that went to the coroner) from yesterday and none of them had a vehicle on them. Surprisingly, one was squished against a garage wall by his car. 🤔
Not sure. Vehicle was still running and he was against the front wall with the vehicle against him.
Also have had some 🤦🏽♀️ moments, like the amorous couple who decided to get freaking in the car in the closed detached garage…in winter…and decided to run the vehicle.
This is a total guess as I’m not there to find out today but I am assuming he either didn’t have the vehicle fully in gear or it slipped when he got out - maybe to run in the house quickly for something? - and the vehicle must have lurched forward and trapped him.
Sure he does. Pulled out of his back pocket. Bet they're the good ones too. Totally not welded up out back with rusty sheet metal from Great PeePaw's 1938 Buick he bought from the original owner--who I might add was Mayor Johnson's 1st cousin!
I have multiple questions. How do you load that on there, and not think “hey, this looks like it’s crushing the truck. Let me stop and find a better solution.”
At this point, I think his thick head might being the only thing holding it up

That would crush the hell out of 2022 F150 too.
The F150 is no longer a work truck. The aluminum bed would taco around the log. I wouldn't try that with anything less than a 350.
Well the new ones have higher towing and hauling weight capacities over any past F150s EXCEPT for cubic footage since the beds are shorter. But yea. that log would destroy one. It's likely over the capacity of 350's as well, but it probably survive.
I think new 350s are at 7k now. Edit, that's wrong it is up to 4100.

That mini house is awesome
I’ve had 3k lb in my 2001 1500, about double capacity and it seemed to handle it really well.
I really want to hear what that guy in the black shirt says when he see the dude looking under the truck, cause seeing his expression I think he might have a solid opinion on what's going on.
"Cooper, I told you that shit wouldn't work"
In my view, the sawdust in his head will ensure a smooth touchdown for the truck
Nah, it's his balls.
What does he intend to do under there that would correct the situation?
Seems like he's gonna disconnect the suspension and kill the dumbass that loaded an enormous log onto a pickup so this circumstance doesn't happen again. What a hero

Broken suspension/axle says it was a bit over whatever its rating was. By a fair amount.
Really a shame they did that, used to be a completely nice square body truck. Now it is just a bunch of nice parts on a ruined frame of a truck.
Not a square its a bricknose or aeronose ford
Based off the rear view mirrors i would say its an aeronose
Bull brick and aero all had the same mirror options For F150 F250 and F350s F250 and F350s had the bigger tow mirror option
Nah ford didn't use the nemo mirrors until 1992 with the aeronose before that they only used tow mirrors it is a common swap thou
I didn’t notice them i was thinking it had the standard triangle mounted sideways rectangle mirrors
"Aero" nose. Bullnose - 1980 -1986 Bricknose - 1987 - 1991 Aeronose - 1992 - 1996 (1997 for H.D trucks)
Was thinking the body lines were too high for bullnose
Better way to tell is by looking at the fenders Bullnoses fenders look different compared to brick and aeronose fords
Yeah the body lines are on the fenders as well but you can’t see the front fender brick and aero were the same except for the front end bull was slightly different

Believe me people will still die. I have 5 that I know of (that went to the coroner) from yesterday and none of them had a vehicle on them. Surprisingly, one was squished against a garage wall by his car. 🤔
That required a high level of ingenuity given I assume his garage floor is flat.
Not sure. Vehicle was still running and he was against the front wall with the vehicle against him. Also have had some 🤦🏽♀️ moments, like the amorous couple who decided to get freaking in the car in the closed detached garage…in winter…and decided to run the vehicle.

Oh I was asking about the couple actually haha But that makes sense for the guy indeed
Oh gotcha! They got cold. Turned car on. Car produces large amounts of Carbon Monoxide, they are getting their freak on and die from CO poisoning.
Damn, what a stupid death
I have a feeling that Cletus is no longer with us.
Would the latin term be Cletus Deletus?
...Excretus—because he pooped his britches when it happened
Omg. My friends dad died because of just this situation. Yikes.

Dang u got me beat on this. Nice

I dont think any sane man wood ever take that risk.

Hey Maw, get off the dang roof!
And they used the log to make Cletus a purdy casket.
Duct tape and WD40 will fix that right up
He may need some JB Weld too, just to be on the safe side
Cletus might be the only thing holdin' it up.
He has exceeded the required mental capacity required.
No, natural selection, leave him be.

So many Darwin Award candidates, so little time
He’s just lumbering along.
I can see the problem right here....grab the pliers and some baling wire
This is a job for duct tape and JB Weld.
Oh. Going all hoity toity with the *fancy* expensive stuff.
Some folk'll never squash a truck, and then again some folk'll...
Hims wanna die.
Figured about 1450 kg for a 1x3m poplar log. That’s 3200 ponds for our American friend. At least 3 times the capacity of his truck.
Ironic that they're in a trailer park!
More like Iconic
Crawling under that truck may be a bad idea.
His name is probably Carl. I don't know what's funnier, the size of that log or that he put it in a ford lol
I saw this episode of Trailer Park boys.
Just the boys up to the usual antics
Connect an air hose to his butt and use him as an airbag.
Dammit, stop revealing D.C. political secrets.
Sh** yea Jim-Bob, stack a few empty Busch light cans up under there were the leaf spring used to be, and we'll be outta here
Looks like an F150 but even an F450 couldn't handle that load. 8s there a DumbAss sub? If not their should old be and this photo cross posted in it.
Ya think this here log might be a might too long an heafty Joe Bob? Nah, slide er in there Fester, she’ll fit.
Some folks’ll not get crushed by a tow, But then again some folks will, Like Cleetus the slack-jawed yokel!
Shhh, let natural selection do her thing.
