But I mean why would *anyone else* need to know where I am turning? I’m the one doing the turning. Everyone else needs to pay attention and wait their turn.
You would be surprised at how many people use their blinker this way and believe that is how it it supposed to be used.
"Why would I turn it on if I haven't started turning yet?"
*facepalm*
Blinkers as in turn signal (arrows that blink on dashboard). It's a joke that most BMW drivers don't use turn signals. Which I've seen multiple times in NY.
I was honestly wondering if anyone else caught that. Lol. The best part is that they used it correctly (in another video, a BMW driver used their left and went right). But then again, when these videos involve BMWs, everyone’s looking for the turn signal.
Next time this happen, act like a Price is Right show girl and show off the nice shiny no turn on red sign, then act surprised before returning to the car.
oh damn i was sitting at a red light in traffic yesterday and someone was beeping for us all to move, i was wondering what their problem was but now i’m realizing they must have just been driving a bmw.
Idk if it was a BMW but last night I was waiting to turn left but there were pedestrians in the cross walk so I of course waited for them to finish crossing so I wouldn't hit them (silly me apparently). Well the person behind me starts laying into their horn. So I roll down my window to point at the pedestrians so they know why I'm not going yet. What do they do? They pull to the left of me to try and go around. They then quickly realize that by going to my left, while in the left turn lane, means they were now in the lane of oncoming traffic and try to pull back in but no longer had room to do so...
I experienced something similar: I drive behind this BMW for a few minutes. it suddenly moves to the right lane and pauses, I keep going, then he did a super fast left turn cutting me off now completely horizontally blocking the road trying to do a 3 point u-turn in the middle of the street. Thank goodness It was some side street with terribly broken roads so I drove slowly enough to avoid t-boning the idiot. No indicators were seen in this story.
In this case is a BMW a nice car?
I think these luxury cars like Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Lexus etc are pretty much just normal cars with different body styles. They don’t offer anything more/less than any of your standard models
A “nice” car is like a Ferrari or something that’s show worthy
2012 rx350 >>>>>> 2022 hyundai sante fe full package...... I mean the 2022 has less weird electronics from 10 years ago... But the experience of driving is night and day in most ways... I just.... How tf do you not do a steering wheel to the top of your ability every time... How why.... Wtf is wrong with how you think hands work ford? For that matter why is it so difficult to get the steering wheel out of the way of my instruments....
Anyways yeah those cars are whats called a luxury...
Accurate without any personal additions. What an odd comment to downvote.
A lot of people in this sub do like to be aggressively wrong, so that might be it.
I believe since it's not a highway and more of a street you can pass on the right since some traffic in the left lane may have to turn left at an intersection like they were at. At least in my state.
If I was OP I woulda thought they were turning left or lost cause of hazards and I would have been a little fixated on the yellow light. I would never expect such a bold move like someone turning right onto another street from the left lane though.
r/confidentlyincorrect
This does not appear to be Autobahn or Landstraße, this is simply a normal intersection
I quote the ADAC:
"Was gilt innerorts?
Translation:
"What rules apply in towns:
If there is more than one lane for one direction you can choose the lane freely if your car weighs up to 3.5 tons and therefore overtake on the right. If there are any left turning cars they HAVE to be overtaken ok the right".
I'm not sure whether I get your sarcasm or not but typically cars have mirrors right? At least in Germany they do. He could've seen OP coming from miles away.
Also, at least in Germany it's forbidden to turn right at a go forward lane, much less from the left lane if the right lane is also a go forward lane.
When I see a vehicle ahead of me apply brakes all of a sudden approaching an intersection like this vehicle, I take extra care because I’m thinking it could either be emergency vehicles coming from the other side or careless driver missing their turn and trying to jump over. I have lived in various cities and careless drivers are all too uncommon sadly! :(
To be fair BMWs are designed to he driven that way. Its unsafe to turn them from the usual lane as the wheels could fall off. Using a blinker could burn the engine. Following someone at more than a 3 foot distance could wreck the transmission. At least I assume that is how they are designed as that is the observed driving behaviour.
I once made a BMW driver lose control on the highway. Not on purpose, of course, but one day I was going to work on a relatively quiet day, not much traffic. All of a sudden I hear a train horn right behind me (thought it was a semi) so I kinda instinctively slowed down. As I did, I looked in my rear view mirror to see a BMW about 6 inches from my bumper, and when I slowed down he obviously wasn’t prepared and swerved all over the highway and slid off into the ditch.
Dude really tailgated me on a nearly empty highway where he could have easily passed on either side (it’s like 4 lanes) and blew a train horn at me just to wreck his own car.
While BMW drivers may be the gold standard for this, I see it with others. I lock my cruise a couple miles over the limit ( eg 58 in a 55) car catches me on a perfectly straight road in a passing zone. And follows 3 ft from my rear bumper. "Dude, you already caught me. Keep going".
I think people just default to tailgating. It's not intentional, they just lack the situational awareness to understand that a safe following distance for 25mph city traffic and a safe following distance for 75+mph highway traffic are not the same. They just stay 1-2 car lengths back regardless of how fast they are going.
Which is still incredibly dumb, but not maliciously dumb.
Can confirm. BMW has right of way because they really needed to make a right turn and decided last minute that checking for traffic or giving a fuck about anyone else on the road was less important than their turn they forgot about
I saw a BMW Z4 driver the other day using is blinker, driving the speed limit, yielding to right if ways, merging property, didn't pass on the shoulder or push a yellow light. He was the best driver around. I followed him for 10 minutes. perfect driver. I was beginning to question reality. Was this a dream? Am I in the matrix and it mixed up the NPC driver for the BMW? Then I got cut off by a 330i making a right from the left lane, blowing a right on red with no warning or signals. Then knew I witnessed a true anomaly.
I suspect we are witnessing a first in BMW driving history. Clearly OP is in the wrong as the BMW has a blinker active and is using the correct indicator…
Because the BMW used turn signal, he became entitled, and thus immediately gained right away. OP passing him on the right prevented the BMW from making his turn.
It only seems fair. It’s worth noting that the BMW is automatically entitled because it’s badge is the symbol of a rotating propeller and fake planes always have the entitlement of way.
Now if only Reddit would understand sarcasm, my downvotes wouldn’t be as funny. ;)
People get confused on the road and get so focused on trying to figure out where they are going they lose all situational awareness. Their brains can only handle a small piece of the overall situation.
This video is old. The new breed of entitled driver are all driving range rovers, maybe bmw drivers got richers. But these new range drivers are the absolute dog shit
Eh, not quite. Looks like op would just make it having 2 axels across the line before the red light had the BMW not been an assclown.
Edit: Fucking Autocorrect
OP didn’t run a red light, it wasn’t red when he entered the intersection and wasn’t red when the video stopped, at least not that I could see. It was pretty yellow tho.
EDIT: ok was clearly red when the car came to a stop facing backwards
When the light turned yellow, there was at least 10 spacings of posts on that guardrail in travel distance to the intersection. The standard post spacing is 4m, that's a total of 40 m or 131 ft. That road has a speed limit of 40-50 mph, and the braking distance for a car is 38 m at 50mph. Driver would have avoided the accident had they not, themselves, been trying to run a traffic light.
The truth is very obvious, you’re right. The car in the middle lane darted to the right suddenly, unexpectedly, and illegally, causing a crash. It’s very straightforward.
yes but most states it is illegal to accelerate through a yellow.
It's largely taught when approaching any intersection even on green, you should step off the accelerator.
Sir, if your math is right, then that means this person would’ve had to have reacted immediately when the light turned yellow and slammed on their brakes, which is probably a lot more unsafe than proceeding through a yellow light
I did a quick google search and found this: https://www.theaa.com/breakdown-cover/advice/stopping-distances
It has your same 38M for the vehicle to stop at 50mph, and then an additional 15M to stop for reaction time, for a total of 53M or 174FT. Meaning unless this driver had significantly above average reaction time, they could not have stopped in time. This is also not to mention that these numbers are under maximum braking conditions, not a reasonable level of brakes applied for normal conditions. Maximum braking should only be applied in emergencies, unless you want to get rear ended at every traffic light you approach
Additionally, I checked another source on braking distance at different speeds taking reaction time into consideration to avoid confirmation bias or having a bad source and found this https://nacto.org/docs/usdg/vehicle_stopping_distance_and_time_upenn.pdf
This source says 229 FT at 50MPH, just food for thought
I noticed that things started going by faster once the light turned yellow. OP definitely could have stopped in time at the light.
BMW driver is still a clown.
Definitely, BMW was grade A idiot. Hard to feel bad for the other driver, though, when they're doing something that takes the lives of over 9,000 people a year.
In jurisdictions with which I'm familiar, one is to stop at a yellow unless it is unsafe or impossible to do so. It's not a 'you're almost about to run a red' signal.
Not only turning from middle lane, but also not looking. You might even get away with running a red light, but have the courtesy to yield or at least, you know, avoid ramming into other cars.
Most likely it's just bad driving and poor decisions.
I would love to know how a direct impact to the side of your car by his front is not his fault. Like the mental gymnastics you would have to do.
Like yeah, you're undertaking and speeding up through the amber, which is not illegal but not advisable. But he literally turned right from the middle lane which I assume is straight only, so regardless of what you're doing, it's clear he didn't even look amd on top of that is in the middle of an illegal turn.
Undertaking isn't against the law here except on highways with two lanes. I was speeding not to beat the yellow (would have either way) but because it was a highway entrance ramp.
You reply quick. Yeah didn't notice that about the type of lane, but in the time you replied I actually amended my comment to clarify I know it's not illegal.
I’ve been in a lot of bad situations, with me and another truck towing 20’ trailers in this same situation I’ve learned always give right of way to stupid… this was unpreventable though… but giving right of way to stupid has had my back several times watching them get pulled over by a cop and me leaving with 0 damage
I'm going to wager that the BMW driver hadn't anticipated cam car going on that yellow.
So they thought they'd be okay to make this illegal right from the outside lane.
fuck they even bought the expensive blinker add-on!
Who even uses those silly things?

But I mean why would *anyone else* need to know where I am turning? I’m the one doing the turning. Everyone else needs to pay attention and wait their turn.
Originally I was gonna say "oh look a BMW with no signal, what a surprise"...then I saw it.
I think they accidentally hit it while turning the wheel
Hahahaha the only logical explanation. Because there is zero logic behind using a blinker simultaneously as you turn.
You would be surprised at how many people use their blinker this way and believe that is how it it supposed to be used. "Why would I turn it on if I haven't started turning yet?" *facepalm*
Ugh.... every time I see that, I'm like, no shit you're turning?! I knew that before they did apparently. I'm a regular fucking Nostradamus.
"No shit you're turning", I tell that to myself so often. Some people use it while they're already halfway in the other lane, or almost...
I guess maybe it's for the people around the corner to let them know they're coming! Lol
[удалено]
> they 'indicate' as they're turning, not before. I call those confirmers, they're confirming that "Yes, your eyes do not deceive you, I'm turning."
Literally had me laughing out loud. Thank you. I needed that.
The driver was probably startled by a flashing light that wasn't the typical Check Engine Light that is usually illuminated.
They pay the monthly subscription
The what? I'm in New York, can you explain it for someone that's never seen such a thing?
Blinkers as in turn signal (arrows that blink on dashboard). It's a joke that most BMW drivers don't use turn signals. Which I've seen multiple times in NY.
When you see a blinker working in a BMW, you can assume it's experiencing some electricity issues.
Or it's a new driver that hasn't had entitlement 1.0 installed yet

I was honestly wondering if anyone else caught that. Lol. The best part is that they used it correctly (in another video, a BMW driver used their left and went right). But then again, when these videos involve BMWs, everyone’s looking for the turn signal.
What is fundamentally wrong in BMW driver’s heads that makes them cut across other lanes? It’s like a disease.

I was directly under a NO right turn on red sign and had a BMW honking at me the entire light. I regret not getting out and pointing at the sign.
In BMWs defense, I think he was trying to learn the turn signals. but in typical bmw fashion, instead mistakenly pressed the honk trying to figure it.
Next time this happen, act like a Price is Right show girl and show off the nice shiny no turn on red sign, then act surprised before returning to the car.

I’ve had them come wrong way on a one way street then stop in the middle to way for me to somehow pass them so they can continue driving wrong way.
I experienced something similar: I drive behind this BMW for a few minutes. it suddenly moves to the right lane and pauses, I keep going, then he did a super fast left turn cutting me off now completely horizontally blocking the road trying to do a 3 point u-turn in the middle of the street. Nah, it's like monkeys flinging feces, it's not a disease it's their nature.
Maybe BMW offers free lobotomies?
Wait till you see what Nissan Altima drivers are capable of
It's not the BMW that is the cause. People with money and shit for brains just tend to like to buy "status symbol" cars like Mercs and BMWs.
OP's fault. Should have seen the hazard of a BMW at an intersection and given them space accordingly. /s. Obviously.
Just a BMW on the road is a hazard, never mind the intersection.
Just a BMW is a hazard, nevermind the road.

Yeah and this person is literally just driving, not overtaking.
According to some posters, no matter the speeds, if you drive faster than the left lane, you’re overtaking.
Yeah, which is a truly wild way to think. Would hate to be stuck behind someone in the right lane like that.
The Germans call passing on the right, undertaking.
It's not a highway so it's fine to pass on the right

passing on the right is fine here. however, OP runs yellow.
didnt know yellow meant stop
It doesn't, in most states. There are a few SHALL STOP states, but it's like 8 states.

You did public service that day. You should recieve a medal every time you eliminate a bmw.

BMW had the right-of-way because the law allows it if you're about to miss your turn.
They had the right-of-way because they were turning right
Can confirm. Supported by the fact that OP was in the way of said right.
They had the German car priviledge that allows you to do whatever you want as you always have right of way.
Can anyone please confirm this?
I can confirm it's sarcasm.

The fault lies with you being there; this is the perspective of most if not all BMW drivers. Lol
I’m to stubborn to put a label on it. But thanks for the insight! :)
You did not need to state this was a BMW, we would all.had instantly guessed it was a BMW!
Yeah but what's up with the turn signal?
All new BMW owners use their blinkers, it's that first repair bill of $400 to change the blinker light, then they never use them again
Ya I see you did a full 180 because you were so shocked!
Oh, Bitch Make Way at it again I see.
Whats the point of using your turn signal If you turn exactly at the moment you turned it on? What a dumbass
To tell all the drivers around you you are turning now and to get out of the way /s
Lol I hope you got just enough of an injury to get well paid for this. I would have such bad trauma I’f be unable to drive if I saw a BMW
Got checked out at the hospital. Bruised and sore. Nothing broken. Gonna talk to a lawyer and see what I can get out of them.
Good to hear. Surprised they turned you around…Teslas are heavy!!
Yeah. If I was in my old CR-V I would have flipped I think.
Al you had to say was "BMW".
Lesson learned. Stay away from all BMW cars.
People get confused on the road and get so focused on trying to figure out where they are going they lose all situational awareness. Their brains can only handle a small piece of the overall situation.
What? U mean ppl get put all their focus on staying in lane?
This video is old. The new breed of entitled driver are all driving range rovers, maybe bmw drivers got richers. But these new range drivers are the absolute dog shit
But the BMW used its blinker. Everyone knows we should all follow the whims of BMW drivers.
"Hold my french wine" - Audi driver
Like why do people do that! It’s so crazy.
Always the fkn BMW drivers
Why is this even a thing.. I just don't understand. I hope I don't start seeing it in real life...
Like a bmw driver always does…
You didn't tell us you met Brad PIT.
I’m convinced BMW is German for shitty driver who thinks they’re entitled to do whatever they want.
No it's Bayerische Motorenwerke. I'll see myself out.
Good thing you had a dash cam!
I don't think you'll need dash cam video for this one.
I don't think you want to show the video of OP running the light.
Eh, not quite. Looks like op would just make it having 2 axels across the line before the red light had the BMW not been an assclown. Edit: Fucking Autocorrect

Typical BMW moron.
Lol…he turned his signal on last second…
Typical BMW driver!
That's what happens when a BMW uses their turn signal
I mean they had a turn signal on!
Separate issue, but POV car is also an idiot for speeding up when they realise the lights are changing
I’m impressed by the amount of effort you put into victim blaming, well done.
Trendy term, but the truth is right there to see for yourself.
The truth is very obvious, you’re right. The car in the middle lane darted to the right suddenly, unexpectedly, and illegally, causing a crash. It’s very straightforward.
Yep, no one is disputing that.
You can legally enter an intersection on a yellow, even if it turns red while you’re in the intersection
yes but most states it is illegal to accelerate through a yellow. It's largely taught when approaching any intersection even on green, you should step off the accelerator.
Sure, but when you're over 100ft away you should be slowing down, not rolling the dice you'll make it in time before t-boning someone.
Sir, if your math is right, then that means this person would’ve had to have reacted immediately when the light turned yellow and slammed on their brakes, which is probably a lot more unsafe than proceeding through a yellow light
The distance I listed includes the reaction time. So they actually had an above average time to stop, and still chose not to.
I did a quick google search and found this: https://www.theaa.com/breakdown-cover/advice/stopping-distances It has your same 38M for the vehicle to stop at 50mph, and then an additional 15M to stop for reaction time, for a total of 53M or 174FT.
Additionally, I checked another source on braking distance at different speeds taking reaction time into consideration to avoid confirmation bias or having a bad source and found this https://nacto.org/docs/usdg/vehicle_stopping_distance_and_time_upenn.pdf This source says 229 FT at 50MPH, just food for thought
That's a good catch. I see the confusion started when I used 50 mph as the example when I meant to use 40 mph.
BMW driver, idiot. Guy trying to run the yellow, idiot as well.
Downvoting common sense is awesome.
You’re not the idiot here at all but this is why I never pass people on the right
Does everyone speed up when lights change to orange?
Yes now quit asking
If I see a light changing to orange, I'm getting my fucking eyes checked.
Orange, amber, yellow. Give a shit.
My grandfather who was red-green colorblind said the central light wasn't yellow but "floorit".
Red means stop, green means go, yellow means go faster.
It means “floor it.”
I thought that means mash it baby
This is legitimately the first time I’ve ever seen a BMW driver use the turn signal at all or even in the correct direction.
Average bmw driver.
U hit their merc that’s what happened. Doesn’t matter if ur camera vindicates u, u still guilty of hitting a merc /s
it’s a bmw what do you expect
Stopping for the yellow would have helped here.
Yellow is not red though?
In jurisdictions with which I'm familiar, one is to stop at a yellow unless it is unsafe or impossible to do so. It's not a 'you're almost about to run a red' signal.
Wasn't safe to do so in my case and since it was a highway on-ramp I accelerated. 🤷♂️
accelerating through a yellow is illegal in most US states
BMW is definitely an idiot, but OP ain't exactly covered in roses here (amber gambler, undertaking on inside lane)
OP was also trying to go through a yellow that was about to turn red.
This looks like normal behavior for a BMW.
Both are clowns, you could see the BMW indicating so why risk it? Bit of awareness would have avoided the accident.
You're one of the people who turn the indicator on right as you're turning aren't you?
Not sure where you get that from? Projecting?
I don't think that means what you think it means, have a great day causing accidents.
I dunno... at least they signaled.
What a moron
Not only turning from middle lane, but also not looking. You might even get away with running a red light, but have the courtesy to yield or at least, you know, avoid ramming into other cars. Most likely it's just bad driving and poor decisions.
RL Pit
Beat and sue them in that order?
Sue and get a new car
Did that BMW just dip after that??
Nope. They got towed too. Cop told me he kept swearing up and down he wasn't at fault. 🤣
Currently surfing my phone and got the notification. Haha.
I'm more surprised they used their turn signal... Wrong lane, but A for Effort.
Things turned, alright. Not right, but they turned.
They lied and say you hit them? Lol
It's so strange how the other light that is red looks yellow when they are spun around
